across the nation? how do we begin to stop it? >> well, arthel i'm happy to be with you on the unfortunate circumstance in those unfortunate circumstances are crime is on the rise all over this country. i think it is the result of politicians is someone in your last segment just represented, these politicians seem to not support law enforcement. they are and seem to not technically support their communities as a result of that you have deepening the police movement you have had police officers that are demoralized and even a law enforcement officers in and of themselves are losing their lives. we had to end new york jason rivero, gone to domestic dispute shot and killed. we had in houston, texas corporal charles galloway

traffic stop, shot and killed. we had in baltimore, maryland kiana holly a mother of four ambushed, shot and killed. crime is a ramp it. believe though, arthel, eric adams the new mayor of new york is certainly trying to do something in new york about crime there. >> how are these criminals getting these guns? and also your former homicide detective, yes you are also a lawyer. how does the criminal justice system need to be changed? can those changes be made? >> the criminal justice system needs to be changed by having everyone on the same page, working together police officers, das, and judges and when i say d.a. zoning district attorneys. when you have like in manhattan there, ada alvin bragg who

really seem to be very soft on crime right now. that is not helping mayors like eric adams out here to try to get control of crime in the various cities. >> i'm going to ask you this perhaps at the risk of sounding naïve or i don't know maybe even sounding authoritarian, what about the notion of holding parents of juveniles who keep committing these crimes over and over and over again? how can you hold them responsible, the parents i mean? >> is very difficult. he would have to be able to show they knew or should have known that their child was going to commit some kind of an act. we have juveniles as you know they are very rambunctious. they are forever getting into something you hope they do not

get into major criminal activity but there are times that they do. but it is hard to hold parents accountable. i know we just had a shooting here at one of the schools in this country we are now trying to hold the parents accountable for acts of their child. that may bring on a trend in the city and in the states all over the country for. >> in that case there may be more of a direct connection they gave him the gun that he used as a christmas present. on the something's gotta give jeff any final thoughts in terms of where we are? how can we clean this crime situation up it's really, really dangerous and scary across the country. >> it is and where things we have to do all sick quickly, as we have to get into control of all of these guns are infiltrating these communities. we must take into consideration

that crime is on the up and that d.a. and mayor and city and politicians are going to have to all try to work together to bring about change in the criminal justice system in this country. >> we keep saying that it's an excellent point you make, how did they move this forward beyond a conversation into action? >> what you have got to do is to elect politicians who are proactive about crime it. you take eric adams in new york right now in that sub white wheat that all of the stabbings. he has now enacted a special unit to go down in the subway and deal with the mentally ill individuals who are sleeping in the subway. and also other individuals to deal with other criminal elements there in new york. that is what we need progressive politicians to deal with crime. >> okay, we have to leave it there.

they were a pair of helicopter crashes just hours apart yesterday. two people were hurt when one slammed into the waters off miami beach as you can see their point hours later and southern california huntington beach police officer was tragically killed. his partner critically injured when their chopper went down. christina coleman to life in los angeles, christina. >> hi eric. yes we have two tragic incidents here for there to helicopter crashes within a ten hour time span the pit fatal what happened in southern california the helicopter crash into the water near newport beach around 6:30 p.m. yesterday evening killing one officer critically injuring another. they're the only two on board. the injured officer was released from the hospital today. the officers were responding to a disturbance fight call when the chopper went down. with the roots are investing in

the cause of the crash. the officer who died was identified 44-year-old nicholas. fourteen year veteran of the huntington beach police department. last night officers lined up outside of the hospital to escort his body to the orange county coroner's office. officers survived by his wife and his daughter. dozens of members of law enforcement showed up to the hospital last night to honor and the legacy he leaves behind. ask the city of huntington beach, the residence of huntington beach, huntington beach police department and the law enforcement community have lost an officer that was truly dedicated to his job, that was doing what he loved doing. >> and take a look at this video out of florida. mammy beach of police for this dramatic video of a helicopter slamming into the water just feet away from the sandy shores

next few days, let's go to the fox weather meteorologist adam klotz. man, that that's crazy he was so close. >> reporter: yeah, i felt like my chest was vibrating. you know what? beautifulwet down in daytona. partly cloudy skies, great for all of the speck spectators out there, actually fairly mice across the country because we're looking at clear skies nearly from the west coast all the way to the east coast. the only spots is in the upper tiers of the country, little snow north of the great lakes and moving across the pacific northwest. there is going to be rounds of snow, so if you're a skier, good news over the next week or two. rounds of winter weather are moving on through the area. you're going to see here some heat piling up in the middle of the country, but i jump out the next couple of days from monday, warm in the east, but if i can get you quickly into tuesday and wednesday, you start to see a real big cold snap in the middle of the country.
