telling measures to get out of the country immediately because they may not be able to get out by commercial means in the coming days. >> steve: what a mess. >> rachel: thank you, trey. >> lawrence: he has been doing excellent reporting. >> rachel: artillery going off as he was on the ground. all of that happening live as we were carrying his report. it's interesting, the biden administration says we will meet with putin but only if he agrees not to invade ukraine. they are standing by their policy, despite the president of ukraine saying, please, issue the sanctions now. a lot of other people saying the same thing. they are saying, no, we are going to wait until russia actually invades before we put in sanctions. a lot of critics caughtable saying listen, it's a lot easier to roll back sanctions than it is to roll back war. senator cruz talking just recently about the urgency for those sanctions.

them. >> steve: excellent. let's talk a little bit about some of the things in the news. and something that caught our eye. remember, it was last wednesday that down in the commonwealth of virginia. governor glenn youngkin signed that bill that makes masks optional in schools. parents get to actually decide whether your kid wear as mask. >> rachel: imagine that. >> steve: giving families control over the children. here's the thing. in the commonwealth of virginia. about as far west as can you go is montgomery county, virginia. that's around blacksburg, virginia. there was a mom by the name of alicia vawt and she wanted to make a point and she had seen that the school board president was out and about on her facebook posting pictures of her and the school board president of her in groups of people with no mask, which is essentially what the school board was telling the kids had to do. she, the woman pictured right

masking kids. the parents got together. elected another one. he said make it optional and what these schools are not doing is following the executive order or in other cases they are shaming. i know some kids who go to that school district and i know their parents and the parents say they are separating them. putting them in separate rooms. there is a lot of shaming going on. they are politicizing something that shouldn't be politicized. i look at that mom and say she is the queen. good for her. that is exactly what needs to happen and that woman walked out, the school board member because she was shamed. meanwhile randy wine garden who is responsible for creating some of these rules and working with the cdc to keep our kids masked up. she tweeted in response to this we all want to get back to a sense of normalcy that's why aft union asked the administration months ago for a science-based off ramp for masks. sure she did. steve: the thing about, and she is the president of, i think the second largest teachers union.

she the reason that tweet came out because of the recall of the board members. seven in san francisco. only three available to be recalled. this was a landslide. they were all swept out. super woke. they are the ones renaming schools rather than talking about of course mass. they were talking about masks when the kids didn't even come back to school until august of last year. the reason randy weingarten is trying to spin that now her union kept the kids out of the classrooms for north of a year. and now she is trying to make it seem like we were always following the science. >> rachel: trying to rewrite history. >> steve: the mother we saw in the first clip she was going viral. a podcaster put her up on their website. a local tv station out in the blacksburg area apparently talked to her about why she did

and i would like to point out that we were peaceful up to the time where they pushed us downtown. they provoked us down at one of our storage facilities where we had fuel and everything. and we refused to get violent. and at that point, that's where the -- everything stopped and they had have to invoke this emergency measure act to be able to get because we would not get on board. that's why it lasted for 23 days because they didn't know what to do with us because we didn't play their game. with that can said, when it comes to the financial aspect of it, i'm not a specialist in this at all what i do see here any government if you are not doing things the way they in the my opinion is far from being democratic. and is not what canada stands for. and this is my opinion very dangerous. and the opposition to our government is stating clearly in the house of commons. there is a big problem. >> rachel: it is a new dangerous

and, yes, the cdc lowered their standards when it came to milestones when it dime young children. certainly about 70% of those milestones have been pushed back a little bit. the reason being the cdc says that it's citing data from the journal of pediatrics in a way to try and make sure that children can get the intervention they need if they're having speech deficits. the bottom line, rachel, we have studies in the united states, the u.k., netherlands all of these places demonstrating infants and children during the pandemic are poorly on gross motor skills. fine motor skills and communication. why is that? face masks may be a part of it also limited human interaction. we know that the facial recognition is violates for childhood development, what's happening right now with the cdc quietly doing this, feels eerily similar to last summer when the american academy of pediatrics started deleting stuff off of their website about childhood

development and the importance ever facial recognition because at the same time they were pushing face masks in young children. you can't have the same -- you can't have them both. you can't say it's important to see people's face when you are then saying put a mask on it. it doesn't make sense. we know the face mask is negatively impacting children. this is, again, a lack of trans (as to what is going on. >> rachel: they refuse to build up the trust they lost in public health. i don't know why they're doing it but they are. the atlantic magazine had an article i believe it was their senior associate editor wrote an article about mask mandates. he wrote well, mask mandates are illogical. that was the title of the article. he quotes epidemiologist at johns hopkins university who says anyone been in public location at any time during the pandemic recognizes that mask mandates are not allowed followed consistently from my perspective. the main benefit is not so of the masking itself but the message to society that the wave

is not yet over. so, essentially, they are admitting that there is no science behind the masking, but it's just a way to keep up the fear and essentially they are using our children to make this political point. it's -- what are we supposed -- i mean, what do we make of this? >> well, bottom line, rachel, any sort of public health intervention has to make sense. to say it doesn't need to make sense is absolutely wrong. instead of trying to manipulate human behavior with certain actions that have nominal or negligible benefit in the pandemic, we need to be focusing on increased ventilation, making sure people who are vulnerable to this virus and/or viruses have what they need in terms of vaccines, boosters, treatment and so forth. but when it comes to the generalized population, these public health interventions that make no sense, it is time for them to be removed so we can gain back public health trust that we have lost immensely throughout this pandemic. >> rachel: give our kids their child hoods back. pretty simple. thank you, doctor. always great having you on.

presidents' day, in the og prime time on the weekend. what are your thoughts on this? >> i thought a lot about this leadership question. i was very excited when they sent this over as a topic this morning. a lot of times people get flowery answers. honesty, courage, strength. those are all great virtues to have obviously. i've thought a lot about this in my own family as a leader early on in my time when i was a secret service agent. i was given a class to coordinate. i really could've done better. you can narrow it down a three things that i think that are paramount. number one is a social iq. social intelligence not necessarily intelligence quotient about your intellectual achievements. are you good at seeing yourself as other people see you in a group? everyone knows the guy that talks too much. he doesn't see himself as other people see him. good social iq.

number two, grant. you've got to have great. you have to have the ability to persevere through tough times and not hold under pressure and go take your toys and go home crying to mommy all the time. you got to have some sense of grit and perseverance. you have to have some compass. you have to have something that guides you. you can't waver all the time back and forth based on the political winds. for all the failings of bill clinton and believe me, they were legion. talk about dishonesty and all that stuff pretty least understood he had a problem at the time with the republican caucus and newt gingrich in that they were posting solutions and he went and speech and said the era of the government is over against the will of a lot of his party purity left at five to 5% approval. joe biden has none of that. no social iq. sadly, he has zero of those capabilities we look for in a leader. >> no swagger. after you have all that, you've got to have swagger as well.

the car? did you see him on the side of you or were you looking straight ahead? >> certainly a pretty intense moment there for the win of the daytona 500 of the one that everybody wants to win. he's been able to put himself in position for a lot of years in a row now. i've tried to position myself where i can be close enough to take those blocks and moves and start the finish line. we did have a red flag for cleanup for one of the crashes. definitely a good time to reflect on what i'm going to have to do if i find myself in that position restarting on that front row of the biggest of the season. you have to keep your head in the game. what an incredible opportunity to be able to do it in front of a sellout crowd. >> rachel: i don't want to bring out bad stuff. you lost your last championship race. did this -- do the win at the daytona which is, you know, the
