russia. they mainly target russian banks, financial institutions, and some of the elite people close to the kremlin. u.s. officials have been clear to say that this is just the first round of sanctions, that they can ramp them up depending on russia's behavior. in the meantime it was clearly seen yesterday how russian tanks and armor personnel carriers by the columns coaled into eastern ukraine break away regions of done nets and luhansk. 2.5 million people now live in that disputed territory and u.s. president biden was clear to say this is a russian invasion. we have moved equipment already in europe strengthen our allies litt stone i can't latvia and lithuania. we have no intention of fighting

it has moved eastward, which vladimir putin has said from his perspective is a threat toe him with troops surrounding him even more. let's get to the military position. because this is the interesting part of it. you have got the break away provinces here which by the way the most significant combat power for the ukrainians is in this region donbas region down here the two break away into new independent states right down here there has been fighting there since 2014 ongoing. this is crimea as steve mentioned which was seized in 2014 as well. you also have -- you have sea, air and land. this is where vladimir putin would have a lot of advantage. he could succeed the only port available to ukraine. there is also significant surface to surface missiles. we go backwards to the other area if we could baltic sea. client of belarus they have been doing so-called military exercises for weeks which have now been extended. so, if traditionally you think

border policies. reversal in our energy policies and we should have heard more about mobilization of the military to head over there to reinforce our nato allies. we didn't hear any of that. and we should have woken up to the swift sanctions as well. none of that. this is weak. this is leadership that must change and if it doesn't change, americans need to get ready for the worst. >> steve: when it comes to the worst, congressman, i know you work with the fbi. the fbi walls out there yesterday warning businesses about ransomware and stuff like that. in addition to the price of our gas and maybe some food going up. we have got to be worried that those russian hackers who tapped into the colonial pipeline a year ago and brought it to a grinding halt, they are going to do some monkey business here. >> sure. nobody is better outside of warfare than russia. one of the reasons why as an fbi agent and now as a member of the

the home county for houston, reportedly has more than 50,000 open arrest warrants this morning. half of which is felony warrants and more than 700 are open murder warrants. unsolved murders. >> ainsley: making matters worse while 4,000 to 6,000 new warrants are added each month the department only has 17 people tasked with tracking these offenders down. >> pete: president of the houston police officers union doug griffith joins us now doug i'm going to ask the question. i think we know part of the answer we the number of people charged with doing it why is this such a huge tank that many of which are not found? >> well, a lot of the issues have to do with the fact that our court system has not done their job. we have so many of these warrants that they allow them out on very low bonds and they just don't show back up to court. that's going to be the majority

of these cases you are courts have been closed and trophy do their job. warrants out as you said for murder. over the weekend we had a murder suspect out on a felony bond for murder go out and kill again a 23-year-old college student. this shoud never happen. we have over 16 people out on capital murder bonds. >> steve: absolutely. why aren't they serious about picking these people up that don't show up. why do you only have 17 people investigating? it seems like the county is not really interested in solving the problem. >> well, understand our department, the houston police department we are about 200 police officers short from what we should be. harris county sheriff's department is the same way. county officials have done nothing. the mayor has given us extra classesser year. harris county has not grown whatsoever. they are responsible for keeping up and keeping track of those warrants. we received them but we don't

have the manpower to go out there and search for them the way we should. >> ainsley: why don't you have enough officers? are they just not applying for the job because of what is happening around the country? what about the court system? you were going into that a little bit. you touched on it. can you explain what you meant by that? firm the recruiting efforts we are trying to get in place are difficult right now because of the type of job doing. vilified every time you make a mistake. we understand that this is a job that we took on. now, as far as the warrants go, we can't control how many warrants or how many bonds judges give. we have people on multiple felony bonds, again, we have had over 165 people murdered by someone on multiple felony bonds. that should never happen. you have more than two felony bonds, you are proven you are not going to be a productive member of society need to lock these people up. they refuse to do that. >> pete: when did that bond

states are and the world was going to hit him with sanctions. buff, you know, the last time we hit him with sanctions big ones in 2014, putin has since had 17 years to make his country $1.5 trillion economy more insulated against any sanctions. and i think his political and military calculation is those sanctions from the u.s. are worth what he is going to get out of it. because he wants more of ukraine to return the form other so ever union to its original splendor. >> absolutely he does. this is his intention. we have known that all along. he certainly wants to take ukraine. he took georgia. he took crimea. and what did the world do? absolutely nothing. so we need to step up our game. we need to make sure we are pushing firmly back against president putin. again, we need to bolster nato allies. and we need this president to show some strong resolve against

certainly, america does lead and we would lead nato as well. but this is where we need those countries involved in nato to come together and make sure they have the commitment. this is very important. they have every one of our nato allies understands the significance of russia invading ukraine. i was at the munich security conference. i do believe they understand the importance of this. and so i do feel that we can come together and it will take american leadership. those troops that belong to nato, they certainly do appreciate the great perspective and leadership that comes from the americans fighting man and woman. >> senator. it was announced that iowa's governor kim reynolds is going to deliver the republican response after joe biden's state of the union address. i know you did this in 2015. in your camo heels. you had just been elected as the

republican nature. what advice do you have for her? what do you expect her to say? >> i'm so excited she is a dear friend of mine. she is the perfect choice to give the republican address following president biden's state of the union. here we have a president one year into this administration that has not done anything about the crisis on our southern border, has really failed when it comes to covid policy, but, here we have a governor, governor kim reynolds who believes in freedom and liberty, has stood up for parents and for families. she is a compassionate leader. she is shown strength through so many challenges. i'm just -- you can tell i'm just really really excited about having her on the american stage. she is a tremendous leader and

as an iowan i'm so proud. >> steve: you would be appearing after the president after the state of the union. the republican rebuttal. you will see it on fox, of course. of the president, as you know, will be giving the state of the union, he is deeply unpopular with the american public you, according to the latest gallup poll, hills approval rating right now is at -- okay, overall number right there. is 41. look at that a majority, 55% disapprove of what he is doing in the white house. and 55% disapprove of how he is handling the situation with russia. and, you know, you are from iowa. i was born in iowa. i know the people of iowa are watching what's going on in ukraine and they go, you know, it's so far away from here. it's not going to hit me until they go and fill up their gas tanks and until the cyber hackers in a day or two or week start flipping the lights in

iran as we enter into another disastrous nuclear deal. i mean, there are so many consequences poor leadership here in the united states you have america. again, i keep encouraging president biden, step it up, man. we have got to be stronger in our resolve when it comes to those adversaries. >> steve: when it comes to our adversaries in the cyber world, the russian hackers are expert at, you know, evading our security measures. so i'm sure, and you are not going to talk about this, but i'm sure the department of homeland security has warned your senate office beware but at the same time, do you feel the administration has warned american businesses enough about the threat of cyber hacks, of ransomware, of knocking out our internet in some way? >> no, i don't feel that the administration has been proactive about this. and it is something that we have worked on in congress for a

number of years and, yet, we don't have an administration that is leading on this issue. for heaven's sake. we have a president that can't be firm with president putin as he invading a sovereign country. you think he would be able to warn our business community. but we haven't seen that level of engagement. so you are absolutely correct and that cyber hackers are out there. we see it coming from russia. we see it coming from china. we know that they try and get into our governmental system as well as our private industry system every single day. this is where our administration really needs to step up and encourage all of these businesses to make sure that they have put the protective measures in place to safeguard against russian hackers. they are already trying to do it. we need to make sure that our american businesses are protected.

and the michigan panthers having that as our first pick out the draft really set the tone for the evening. and then we've got seven more quarterbacks to follow right behind him. that was the thing i was most excited about. we've got eight really good quarterbacks to start our league. >> here are the teams that will be in the league. the michigan panthers new jersey general. philadelphia stars, pittsburgh maulers, birmingham stallions, houston gamblers, new orleans breakers, tampa bay bandits. this league plays in the spring. season coming up not that far away. >> now, not at all. a lot of work to do in a short amount of time. got up to a great start last night with the draft. we will follow that up on day 2 up over to the offices and will have 23 rounds this afternoon to fill out the roster to 35 and we will have another draft and march on march 10th to fill out that roster all the way to 45. >> steve: what should folks expect from the usfl? why should they turn it on?

speak up between when our season starts and when the nfl season ends. can you let that of a doubt but a little bit and get everybody excited again. april 16th. it's going to be competitive football. we look at the guys that we drafted last night. across the board. looking to add to that this afternoon and in day 2. and that is the big thing. these are guys that are very good football players. a lot of times it is the numbers game at the nfl level that really prohibits somebody from following the nfl game and anything we can do to have them come down to the usfl and help them find how to get back on that path to trying to change that nfl dream. we've got eight great coaches to go along with his quarterbacks. we really excited for what they are going to be able to provide for players during the course of the season.
