south of kiev causing flames in the air and blow up the entire night sky. yesterday morning there was an apartment complex that was sent here killing two people after the russian missile slammed into the residential building. we hear these reports of fighting outside of the city often sporadic gunfire as those ukrainian forces tried to push back the russian troops attempted to enter the city. the mayor of kiev was interviewed by the associated press and he was asked about the situation and whether or not there would be an evacuation of civilians from the city and he responded with the ominous response, the city is surrounded that is what ukraine in the capital is dealing with, you mentioned other cities like the second largest ukrainian city kharkiv under heavy fire. the work continues under a cease-fire negotiation between the russians and the ukrainians, tonight there is no indication that that is working in the conflict moves forward.

it's not confirmed but there might be talks between the ukrainians and the russians. maybe they figure out a way to provide an offramp to putin if it was concern and how erratic make it look okay. i don't know what you give to the russians at this point after this kind of invasion. >> if there is talks, he is lost, it is not simple. if i was president zelensky i would not go anywhere else i would make sure it's neutral ground i don't trust putin. dana: you say not to have the stocks in belarus? >> no, i would not go to belarus. if you go anywhere and neutral ground in belarus is not neutral. if he talks that signals being sent is that putin is losing any lost and he needs to talk and is looking for an offramp. zelensky has one. that's what it means to me. i think talks would be important but president zelensky should not given, he is winning right now. dana: he is holding his own in a

country will be next, nobody knows, he is crazy he is just crazy. >> along the route some people have run out of gas basically abandoned their cars now they are walking hoping to find shelter on the other side that many do not know where they're going next. >> if i can make this personal for a second i have three young daughters on my own we drove down the line of cars for hours and hours look into the eyes of these families. it is devastating many did not think this invasion was going to come they left in such a hurry. they have been told perhaps it would not happen until the last minute and they left not know where they're going to go or where they're going to stay taking with them what they can carry. as a humanitarian crisis and if the war dragged on and on that will continue to rise. the number of people that already fled about 350,000 now. again that is fear that it could rise to 4 million or 5 million which is why the next few days are so critical to see if it

escalates or if putin finds an offramp read we do not know trying to predict what he will do is impossible. dana: incredible to hear their stories and think about that they only had a few moments to grab what was the most important thing they can put in a suitcase and try to keep the children from being fearful. did you notice that part i think some of the kids that we've seen are smiling their parents are doing as good a job as they can even while their hearts are breaking. >> remarkable thing you see the resilience of children, they are too young to understand its appearance to understand the full weight of what is happening and how their lives are being changed forever. the children take with them what they can grab their toys and they can bounce back and you see it in refugee camps across the world and they are resilient. it's a true testament to human nature they can pull through.

such an incredible ordeal to go through. both of the origin orphanages that we support are in active were combat zones. it is in the path of crimea and the ukrainians have been holding on, the russians in nicolette, the russian somebody been taken over. what had to happen it was terrifying these children are having to go to storm shelters i was there yesterday and watching the nurses rushing as the sirens carry babies down there and keep in mind these children with special needs and handicap and down syndrome trying to keep kids happy for hours on end is horrific. what really got my attention if i share, go ahead. >> i was going to ask how old

are the children and how are they coping at the moment? >> thank you for asking that is a question i've always dealt with the newborns and 4-year-old and from five and up they go to another orphanage for schooling. the crisis hasn't been the noise these children cannot understand bombs anymore they hear thunder or lightning outside. what they really get involved with is being moved. why they're being moved from their care. we've been assured from the doctor facilities psychologically as well bring the nurses have to keep their head on in the middle of all of this so it can be comforting for the children it is a heroic effort by everyone. >> those images are staggering and heartbreaking.
