>> good afternoon to you for just a few moments ago cpac wrapped up for this year. as you well know, traditionally at the end of this event attendees get a chance to find out who they would like to see as the republican nominee and the next presidential race. given the audience who seen at this conference it's really no surprise former president donald trump taking first place in this year's cpac poll. just like he did a year ago in a second florida governor desantis with 28% support of and the numbers trailer up pretty quickly with former secretary state michael pompeo filed by kentucky senator rand paul and also the governor of south dakota. trump received a hero's welcome lesson when he took the stage. it really felt like the rally speech the presidential election was going to happen any day. we did hear some the same one-liners were used to hearing from him out on the campaign stoppard but he also dropped some of the strongest hints to get about a potential third run for the white house. >> we did it twice, and we will do it again. we are going to be doing it

again a third time. this is a tipping point for the country. and the stakes could not be higher. losing is not an option. we must win in 2022. we must win in 2024. >> and trump also had a lot to say about the crisis ongoing in ukraine and russia present double down on some comments he made earlier in the week calling russian president vladimir putin smart he also said what's been going on is an atrocity, and outraged and appalling and americans need to show strong support for ukraine. he also, bret, heard from a number of high-profile republicans who will likely be joining trump on that potential run at 2024 paid many of them saying they believe the bite of ministration needs to be tougher on russia. they have a lot more to say on these pressing foreign policy matters in the next several weeks, bret. bret: mark, thank you paired fears grow over russian cyber attacks against the u.s. it. we will tell you, how you can

americans can go against a cyber security threat we have with this charles marino priest former dhs advisory ceo of a sentinel security solutions for charles, thanks for being here. >> thank you bret. bret: first so i see threat of possible cyber attacks as real. and do you believe americans can do something to change the dynamic personally? >> yes i think the cyber threat is very real we have seen a rush is committed to implementing cyber within their overall operations, with the your war in ukraine and here in the u.s. we are preparing as such. critical infrastructure here in the united states, bret, falls primarily on the hands of private sector partners of the department of homeland security through cyber infrastructure to security agencies and the fbi have been working very closely with all of these critical infrastructure companies to make sure there is robust information sharing. and also that they are prepared, their patching is up-to-date and that they are monitoring their

systems closely and reporting information to the government and vice versa. and so far it seems to be working well. bret: at senator mark warner he's the chair of the intelligence committee and special report this week. and i asked him about the cyber warfare and how concerned he is about it, take a listen. >> we have to be concerned about when these sanctions take place russia launching some type of cyber option against america or nato. or even the more this gets into the gray areas again or put ten and a census of the cyber criminals it is open season to use your rant somewhere against any american and european institution. bret: knowing what you know is what keeps you up at night? >> it absently does. we now they say that that is very real beyond government and companies that have taken some actions, what can everyday americans do? >> every day americans most are using larger services to their internet providers and those are the companies that the

government is working closely with to make sure that service remains uninterrupted. but the senator is exactly right. we know that most of the cyber attacks are not going to come from the russian government per se. but through their proxies of criminal organizations paired we have experienced this year in the u.s. as has the rest of the world. and that is their mo. i'm sure they are conducting cyber attacks and trolling right now as we speak in ukraine. ukraine is getting a lot of help with remaining connected by state actors, governments, nonstate actors in the private sector. the whole goal here, bret, is to make sure services are not widely interrupted and crippled that could affect everyday americans. bret: quickly, the scary part from the big picture is a cyber attack on a nato ally, could trigger article five and countries defending that ally.
11:56 am
>> no, you are right. this is all fluid, bret, cyber is fairly new especially as we are over in the workspace right now right now. so, there are no rules so to speak. they are being interpreted in real-time. so yes it would in fact fall under article five. cyber attacks are very hard to control and could spill over for example from ukraine and then we would have another problem there were it would involve the nato allies to take action against russia. bret: charles marino we appreciate that's our time will be watching the space closely thanks. >> thank you. bret: breaking news and live reports on the ground in ukraine. new attacks plus here in the nation's capitol i will be joined onset by the uk ambassador to the u.s. about the situation right after the break.
