minister so lowly. they don't seem to be taking it very seriously at the moment. you look back and russians have used a clumsy time time again to show they are trying to talk the diplomatic path all the same time escalate and they did it with blank and they didn't time and time again in the months leading up to that. look, for all of the talk of humanitarian corridors it's hard to see right now if russia would abide by them. russia does want though, that being said for civilians to flee. they can stop them at targets and send their troops and they are wary of the street to street fighting. they know the death count will rise then that can sway public opinion against them. it is pretty hard right now to trust the diplomatic overtures from the russians. >> benjamin it is dagen mcdowell. what about the indiscriminate damage done to civilians the use of cluster bombs or cluster musicians there have been reports of those. russia is not party to an international treaty that bans

those types of munitions. but what have you heard or even seen in terms of a russia's use of those types of bombs? >> well, president biden is saying there's enough evidence to point to that yet. the nato said there is evidence cluster bombs are being using the videos on social media very clear to sooner cluster bombs used. multiple little flashpoints are indiscriminate they wipe out large areas. look, yes the feeling is they are being used brief look back to previous engagements that russia has been involved in, sierra, chechnya, their use there as well. certainly in there suddenly not too concerned with human a loss we seen that before as well for the evidence points to the fact they are using it. yes those are war crimes in this discussion about collecting the evidence so they can be prosecutions later down the line. but yes that's hardly something's going to scare up some vladimir putin at this point. >> of benjamin, joey jones here. we talked a lot today i think

we're talking 12 hours ago of what was happening south of mariupol and those core doors bread but right there in kyiv looking in a map earlier today it looks like there are battles and towns are due west of kyiv. a mostly russian troops have come from the north and northwest. does that mean they're beginning to circle the city? is that something you are seeing ukrainians react to? is there any key engagements happening to show that core door to the west where we had hoped to bring weapons into kyiv is being cut off? >> the only corridor into the city right now here is through the south. the west is already cut off there are no safe words in there. their clashes up and down the western side. people are quite surprised frankly they have not moved around and cut off the south already. talk about the convoy again and again white stalled the thought was that was going to go down and do appear people are now closely watching troops the russian troops moving from the northeast as well coming down to

the eastern side of the city there stephanie moved to cut them off on both sides. look it is all speculation what had they moved on kyiv yet? perhaps some people are suggesting they want to secure land around the east, the north, the south, mariupol, maybe it's more important to initially capture the black sea coast and they appear to be moving toward odessa keyport towns port cities. it is very hard to read right now. it does appear at the very beginning russian forces hope they can go down very quickly in capture kyiv is a decapitation strike right now that hasn't worked they regrouped taken a step back were not quite sure when that attack on the city might comb. that is why they're such an eerie place to be right now. the city of usually 3 million people, there is no one on the street no one except the soldiers who are ready with their tank traps or sandbags or concrete barriers. people are not leaving. it is a strange place to be an eerie place to be with what considered to be an inevitable

some roadblocks. but as far as the military activity, the air raid sirens go off just about every night here a couple of targets have been hit to the north and south of the country. those awls military activity at an airstrip to the east of here. in which it appeared at least according to the mayor of lviv, the russians attempted to insert paratroopers they were repelled by local fighters. there is also the possibility the russians came in, they did but they wanted to do, cut back on the helicopters and left. alicia: hey mike it is alicia. we see these evacuations get interrupted by shelley and then folks get turned around. i am just curious they cannot get to where they are to go to escape. can they turn around? and if they do word and they go? we have seen these images being sent to us from you guys, all the teams in ukraine of people hiding under bridges part i am just wondering do they find cover anywhere they can?

looks well the short answer is yes pretty hiding under the bridge was in the town of urban people thought they had a chance to make a break for it today and as they were coming out they were getting some help as they were coming out the shelling started and they hid under the bridge incidentally that bridge was not blown up it was bloated by the ukrainians to prevent the russians from getting in. your talking about mariupol to the southeast they're supposed to be a cease-fire to provide humanitarian core door for that cease-fire was supposed to start at 9:00 a.m. local time. they gave it a little while to see if it would stick but before these poor people could get out of their houses and start making a break for the shelling started up again and they were told they had to get back into the shelters. sean: we had eight member between zelensky and house members zelensky asked for a no-fly zone seems like that's going to be a no go. but curious he said if not that, send me planes so my ukrainian pilots can fly them i assume it's a drone and drone missiles

just what it replacement aircraft from the united states before it would give up those megs and the like for ukraine. there still a possibility that aircraft goes into ukraine. in terms of the humanitarian crisis, based on your reporting on the ground is there plentiful food are there plenty of necessities for the people in the interior of the country what is that like for the ukrainian people? you're in the west is not that bad people can get food there's a disruption of life in the western part of the country. when you're talking about cities like kharkiv and mariupol they do not have water, they don't have heat they do not have electricity. a lot of civilian structures have been hit frankly we cannot give you totals of how many because there's too much chaos they do not have the basic necessities of life.
