we appreciate it. before we go, remember you can stream the dan bongino show. don't forget to follow "unfiltered" on instagram and fox. pray pray. forget that other stuff. >> this is a fox news alert world remains on edge at this hour. good evening i'm lawrence jones live in new york city as war in ukraine rages on a partial cease-fire has failed evacuation routs are shut down u.s. is trying to get more military equipment to ukraine but putin says sanctions put on his country are, quote, an act of war. we have team coverage live on the ground in ukraine lucas tomlinson live in and we begin in kyiv. what is the latest?
7:01 pm
>> well, look lawrence throughout the last day and across this country vladimir putin and troops attack civilian areas and death toll continue to rise in a town about 15 minutings, is a miles where we are -- they were shelling all days and thousands of deaths for people and trying to flee. flee across a bombed out bridge to safety of the capitol. how long kyiv itself remains safe ho nobody knows and that's because russian forces are increasing push towards city and it is thought to be just the a matter of time now until they try to take it across country they've been desieging other cities as well and putin forces continue to bombard civilians and cease-fire has been announced to e vangt. that set apart almost immediately as russian force shell safe corridors out and zelenskyy had a call with senatorrings and reiterated he needs more weapons and a weak may toe repiewgz no-fly zone and he spoke about russia's losses.
7:02 pm
russian army didn't prove goal -- although servicemen, 10,000 is a horrific figure. part of a team 20 years old boys almost children. soldiers with no explanation of why they were sent to fight for. >> russians are doing their best to fight back and we've seen some success several sting allowed them it take down helicopter, jetsage hold back convoys and as a result there's a fair amount of hope here in the country and we've had to voices and we've seen people ready preparing for what they believe will be full invasion particularly here in city of kyiv. belarus and authorities said there would be a third round of diplomatic attackses on monday and few people think that there's much hope in those at this point. lawrence.
7:03 pm
lawrence: excellent korveg and bring in lucas tom linn son what are you hearing about that convoy, will they be tiebl stop it? >> lawrence they said that convoy is stalled and if you look at satellite images where are russian soldiers they seem to have been disappeared and in no condition right now to assault city and certainly question abound and also ukrainian forces and in past 24 hours lawrence nine russian aircraft shut down out of the sky. five fighter jets and four attack helicopterrers and confirm those numbers those reports but if this is true, that would be the largest loss for air force it is in the air force for at least for decades you have to go back to the soviet experience in afghanistan they lost a number of gun ships or vietnam war. lawrence. lawrence: lucas excellent reporting we'll check in with you later tonight.
7:04 pm
joining us keith kellogg former national security advisor to vice president pence general thanks so much for joining us let's get your reaction to bombs against civilians earlier on putin avoid targeting civilians why is he doing it now? >> yeah, lawrence thanks for having me. look, it is pretty simple we're heading into -- act two of multiact play it is probably a tragedy when you look at it. what i mean by that is reach a point to go into the city of kyiv and into bill and probably go back to old soviet style of use of after artillery which wie massive and hard to take down that city and use every weapon he has to do which will include cluster bombs to take down that city of about 3 million. now, in i think americans and rest of the world are going to take a big pause and a city been around for 2,000 years and seat

of government of ukraine and try to decapitate government meaning attack it out bring new government in and question will be okay, are we going to continue to let this happen? as a world body, i understand that u.n. no-fly zone i've got it. takes all 30 members to agree to have a no-fly zone we don't want to do that because of article five but maybe we ought to go to u.n. and say why don't we have a u.n. no fly dismoan get the whole world posture together, to go against what the russians are currently doing in ukraine. you know i'm looking at this two ways you look at president zelenskyy asking for more sanctions which are happening. he's also asking for no-fly zone which is -- an immediate way to reduce the connectic fight happening right now. and we're honoring one but really not honoring second an we need to tack a hard look at that and what we're going to do going forward because you just mention it. when he starts using cluster bombs, thermal barbaric weapons it is changing whole nature of warfare because this civilian population will be heavily hit
7:06 pm
by it. so i think we're seeing a change. and what i would do if i want biden take people going to executive office build next to west wing in white house go up to fifth floor, a cold pizza warm beer and come up with a bunch of solutions because right now we're beating our chest this looks really good all together it sounds good but it will break apart when you see civilian casualties that will occur in next week or so. lawrence: when zelenskyy president of ukraine speaks i sln closely he said something earlier that toipght get your reaction to. he said that he was thankful thus far for assistance he's gotten -- from our country but he also said that the if the biden administration had acted sooner, america would have angted sooner there would not have been a war. do you agree with that? >> 100%. lawrence, we -- so true. i don't know why we as a nation

and rest of the allies as well when they started building up their forces and they've built them up well before christmas when pulling 30,000, 40,000, 60,000, 70,000. look putin does not bluff when he said he was coming to ukraine, he's going to go into ukraine. and we should have been building up armorments back then we waited part of the reason we said is because we believed if we did it was going to be and six weeks it would have been an example an trained up pilots that are current pilots in the ukrainian air force on things like a-10 and transfer weapon systems to ukraine. it doesn't take a year to train a new pilot you're taking a pilot put him on new platform or giving more ammunition doing something we just earlier on, we delayed it is a fault. he's absolutely correct. i wish we had done that and now we have to go forward where we're at and see where we're going to. lawrence: i have to run but if
7:08 pm
you can give me a 20 second response to this there seems to be back and forth between the president of ukraine, as administration. the administration is saying they're sending weapons ukrainians are requesting for more weapons what is the truths and what is that discrepancy? >> yeah. >> well truth is we just -- you take as of as you can get years ago when i was in combat i put as much ammunition on my body as i possibly could carry i didn't need so much as food but i wanted -- so need more ammo he's correct give more ammo ammunitions that is correct but you need every round you've got. what he's saying true but wishing we would have done it earlier. glans we appreciate your insight please for help americans in russia are told to leave country immediately for their safety. and now we're learning that a wnba star detain in russia and

representative triesing to get her released back home but anxious with kremlin so high, they are sounding alarm for her safety. kristin worked for state department, and he joins us now. kristin, tell what you say we need to know about this. she's a texan she's a american we want her back home. safely -- does this rise to the eveninglation of being potentially -- you know having ten years behind bars? >> certainly not in any practical sense of the market and no one has admitted to anything here and we haven't seen actual evidence certainly we can't take russian word for it i guess she entered russia with -- some cartridges that contain thc oil or something similar to that. if that is true and that's a big if again we don't know full facts here and clearly that would be for personal use and not for intent to distribute within russia and not dealing
7:10 pm
with a seriously allege drug deal earn you know this -- the timing of this even though she was arrested actually before the war started, is awfully suspicious this fits a russia pattern of harassing people especially members of the wnba can do well and involved and make over a million bucks per winter. so this looks like harassment of an american. now that doesn't necessarily mean state department you know they're awfully cautious about telling americans not to go places. so most travelers wouldn't have a problem. but this person certainly has -- >> kristin state department has issued a travel warning saying, americans need to leave immediately. >> yep. you know, and if you don't need to be in russia maybe you shouldn't but we're not at war with this country frankly if we start doing no-fly zone we will be at warm with russia with nuclear war on power and so far you can actually still get into russia and get there from middle
7:11 pm
east and from turkey maybe from east asia if you have serious business there you can go and at least follow the law you won't have a problem -- but nonetheless the state department out of its usual abundance of caution is suggesting people not go. lawrence: kristin, only few more seconds but with russia making this move as you said detain her before war even started are they poking the bear? are they testing the commander in chief? >> absolutely. i think everything they do is a test. and sometimes tests are apparent sometimes they're not apparent. but frankly they're seeing in washington someone who shoots his mouth off former talks beg and consequences really don't meet billing. lawrence: thank you so much for your insight still ahead strength an solidarity of ukraine people have been home and beacon of the world from inside the war zone when we come back. don't go anywhere.

7:16 pm
world war ii day after day seeing life and in this sovereign country being destroyed last week on cross country spoke with one mother derled to get her family to safety. watch. >> now we are paying for our home hes that we have lost -- back in kyiv i'm not sure if i'll see them again because we know how -- lawrence: that story is not unique and happening across that country and bring in spokesperson morgan. you know morgan i didn't expect to see something like this in any lifetime. >> yeah i think it is only going to get worse when you look at numbers so we're very gnarl this war and seen over a million ukrainians that are refugees to put it in context for your audience lawrence if you look at syria that's civil war went on around ten years. and still somewhat ongoing syrians have about 21 million people, they had over that ten
7:17 pm
year period 6 million refugees so let's contrast with ukraine 44 million people and jus weeks in, we see over a million refugees. so i think while syria is of the best comparison at least leads fuss to understand how serious and how delicate and fragile this war is already when it comes to the cost that ukrainians are paying especially those that are now becoming refugees. lawrence: later on this show we're going to have ukrainian immigrant that is here in this country a restaurant in new york paying for flight for his employees to go back to ukraine to fight this fight it is a american issue now because we have ukrainian americans here. i want to switch topics, though, with you because we found out earlier this week that america is negotiating with iran and russia for another nuclear deal. i mean shouldn't we have known about this earlier and been doing this behind closed doors for a while are you surprised to
7:18 pm
hear this morgan? >> no lawrence because i've been shouting this from roof toes thank you for paying attention, it is incredibly important. so what our audience needs to know is right now while this war has been going own and russia invading russia instead of treating them as international praia biden and his team have given russia legitimate at the negotiating table they're not just negotiating with iranians with chinese they've been negotiating on behalf of the united states. that's incredibly important remember iran deal this is what president obama got us into, president trump got us out of this because it doesn't prevent from getting nuclear weapon but kicks can down road they continue to fund and have terrorism around middle east this is a big problem. we saw secretary of transportation pete buttigieg insinuated to buy oil from iran so just again to get to the bottom line here biden is not
7:19 pm
allowingmens to be energy independent. he's really not opening up for new exploration and new drilling way we need to be in order to be energy independent most importantly he's not putting the crucial sanctions required on russian energy sector. now a lot of people think while he's just doing that because he doesn't want price of oil to go up and that would hurt americans. i think it is far more sinister than that lawrence. whaing you're going see next week is that president biden and his team will unveil a deal that obama negotiated in that deal i believe that's why they have not negotiated excuse me why they haven't sanctioned russian oil yet. because not only are they going to allow russians to continue their energy sector, we may even be age to buy oil from iran in this new deal it is going inflame middle east and they are -- biden administration is not serious, not serious about countering russia allow them to
7:20 pm
negotiate on our behalf today with the world's leading states sponsor terrorism the islamic republic of iran. lawrence: morgan i want to stay with you on this with iran for a second. you alluded about secretary of transportation talking about buying oil from iran. last time i check they were one state of terror so is america -- we were not sure that adults would be tbhak room that they knew what they were doing and keep americans safe. are americans more safe today? >> no absolutely not russia has invaded ukraine we saw listen you know this lawrence you covered this. i was a part of abraham accord we handed to biden administration because of president trump, the first peace deal between israel and arab states in 26 years. so what happens with biden and his team take over within three months hamas is attacking israel. within seven months, kabul has fallen to taliban. and now within a year you're
7:21 pm
seeing a ground war in europe because russia invaded. biden administration they themselves said their plan that their strategy was to deter russia from invading ukraine. they failed at that strategy. and what we're seeing now is that the iran deal -- is far more important to them than actually countering russia. i can't tell you what a dare election of duty it is from a diplomacy perspective to have russia negotiating on our behalf so we can buy russia, russian, and iranian oil next week and instead of drilling more here at home we should be drilling in the united states we should be energy independent, we should be treating russia and iran as international pry not giving them legitimacy on world stage it is prepostrows. lawrence: i don't care where you stand on the issue but most logical issue would say that us being energy independent did not empower russia and seems like biden administration is merried
7:22 pm
to ideology morgan i want your comments on oligarchs to release sanctions on them on their yachts they own apartment buildings here in new york city. what took so long? >> well listen i think we should take their yachts and boats, planes anything else we can get our handle on. their children they all go to school in the united states right everybody wants to come here to go to college we can kick their kids out of school this is kind of things that we did under president trump and mike pompeo when we were going after human rights abusers and other chinese communist party officials. we also prevented them and families from having visas to united states. so none of these people children should be in school in the united states right now. we should be canceling all of the visas. lawrence: morgan sorry to interrupt you. to get to that i'm sorry to interrupt but i have to get an answer to this. it seems like administration so far has been so reactive, i mean, we're getting to talk
7:23 pm
about this later on in the show that we knew they were going invade they told chyna told them to do it after olympics so why not do this before? >> because we have continued this administration has continued to pursue a series of half measures hoping that if we don't irritate russians too much maybe they won't go further now that strategy hasn't proven out again i also think it is far more sinister i think they want to be back in the iran deal more than they actually tpght to counter russia in ukraine under this new jcpoa iranians can potentially do things like give russia 500 million dollars they owe them and continue do that because of trump sanctions on them so russians may get $500 million from iran and also iranians able to buy conventional weapons and advance weaponry, from the russians. it is a joke if anyone thinks that this administration is
7:24 pm
serious about countering russia it is a total joke. just look at what they're allowing to happen in vienna willing so sacrifice ukraine for iran they want to get back into. lawrence: ukraine was enough. now it is starting to impact us here at home as well. morgan, your trusted voice on this thanks so much for joining the program. >> right. lawrence: ukraine president slen zelenskyy may be top target and not stopping him from calling for a sit down with putin and what role does china play in russia's war? we'll talk to expert on this. don't go anywhere.

lawrence: so another round of russian ukraine talks and zelenskyy calling for a sit down meeting and for his life with every video zelenskyy post on social media there are worries of his location tracked and fellow officer joins us now. so matt, i got to ask you every time he does this, and i know world people want to hear from him. does he put his life at risk by doing it every time? >> lawrence thanks so much for having me. he does. and i think he recognize it is
7:29 pm
that. by very nature of him sitting in front of nondiscrypt backgrounds at the least attempting to prevent anyone from seeing or locating exactly where he is now from my understanding what we've seen over past week in particular according to reports, is that president putin back in january actually approved a -- approved two organizations in particular to go in and enact as sleeper cells into ukraine. these two groups were the special forces and vagneer group because how plausibly deniable that kremlin can use them for and vangne rorks controlled by one of putin oligarch friends also known as putin chef because of his culinary abilities. and he himself is on the fbi most wanted list, and the reason
7:30 pm
why he's so important in this, is because they are mercenary group that has been in africa past few years doing crime linn bidding but offering that sense of plausible denialibility and brutal accused of terrorizing people now according to at least mr. putin, they have nothing to do with russia. but like most of things coming out of his mouth recently, it's tends not to be true these people tend to be staffed by former members of the russian military intelligence organizations. they train with the russian military. they receive their weapons often times from the russian military and these mercenaries even receive military -- russian military decorations for their services. so with regards to mr. zelenskyy he has a very -- important task of surviving over the next coming months. lawrence: i'm curious matt because reason that these plots
7:31 pm
haven't gone through is because there's been russian assets reported information and they've been tiebl take them out as a result of that. so -- are they a part of the kremlin circle and if so, is -- that a signal that he's losing this war that his own people are starting to turn against him or are these people planning along with putin to begin with? >> that's a great question to according to reports that i've seen ukrainian themselveses have said they received the assassination information able to act on from disgruntle member of the fsb russian version of the fbi. so they -- the ukrainians at least were able to action those pieces of information, they at least claim they were tiebl take out the czechen and degrade merse nares themselveses so how much of that is actually true and where they were getting their information from is up in ther a. certainly is a question but
7:32 pm
nonetheless it seems to have been very effective. lawrence: wow. looks like tide starting to change i hope someone can talk to this madman to walk him off of what he's doing to these people. gives me some type of hope matt thanks so much for joining us tonight. with all of eyes on ukraine today secretary of state anthony blinken confirming to world that we're also watching beijing. blinken making it clear that china's response to russia invasion failure to stand up to ukraine will be remembered. we'll see. yates served as deputy national security vice president cheney and expert on all things china steven, we learned that therm notifying -- you, russia china was to not do this until after olympicses so why weren't we ahead of this i guess is the question. >> well, there's a couple they thinks that are wrong with
7:33 pm
narrative we've been told on one hand biden administration has said that they have been preparing the world for months to try to -- build up the case against putin and this aggression. and that was the case then there's many, many questions about why wasn't there more done to protect humanitarian rescue efforts to try to defeat the efforts at cyberattacks and other decapitation efforts by initial wave of the russian force and at this point it seems like europe and united states waited until after invasion to really get their house in order and begin to move further and faster and, of course, if we have known for months that it was coming why wasn't the president over in europe repeatedly pushing european leaders to be ready to do more. again in germany, they didn't really change their fundamental economic policy much less their military policy until after the
7:34 pm
invasion. so there was a lot of deference given to hope that beijing would help. the biden 250e78 allegedly share intelligence with them. that was supposed to be used to deter putin it most certainly was not. lawrence: let's talk about that because -- i don't to just gloss over that. why were we sharing intelligence with china? why would we ever do that? >> well, i think it's just sort of wrong thing goes several decades number one there's a lot of assumption that kale out of the cold war about the soviet split difference between what became russia and what's left of china and there's some truths about the difference civilization and interest but right now you have two authoritarian leaders that have at least marriage of convenience. during the olympicses they made this agreement that was described as unlimited friendship and partnership when putin knew he given go order for what he was going to do and
7:35 pm
chinese niewb it and no one did a they think to slow it down and china is on u.n. security counsel we know u.n. is ineffect regime no matter what but china has not speaking out about this and not gong to help the sanctions have a pinch on russia either. lawrence: here's the big question what should united states respond now that we know that they betrayed us after we stupidly gave them intemtion to begin with what should be our response to china? >> i think we should have an extremely firm attitude towards communist party of china they and their government do not represent chinese people but that government poisoned world and rest of the world economy for two full years that should have been enough for us not to trust them. to be on our side of nationality
7:36 pm
to deconflict something between russia and ukraine. we also know that beijing helicopters island nation of taiwan a free democracy on which most of our smart device and our civilize world depend, and so china conveniently would like russia being in a partner in its absorption of taiwan to have in mind so most immediately the united states needs to revive some moblght to deter nations like china, but since deterrence failed with putin so far, our work is stacked up against us at the moment. lawrence: unbelievable what's happening it was all predictable steven yates thank you too much so we finally gout our guest here live in -- ukraine media center she joins me now. melania thanks so much for joining us tonight. tell me how you're doing -- and what are the people only the

ground saying right now, tonight? >> thank you for baring with me internet connection issues. so for now -- we have both wins and difficulties. i'm in constant contact with our troops on the ground and we have had some significant that comes through russia and in central ukraine, and there are issues with refugees flowing into west ukraine, people are scared and bit disorganized, however, we are learning as we go. so kyiv is still standing which is very good that morale is all time high and that also feels great, however, we do have issues in that region like city and where there are difficulties and what i mean by that is
7:38 pm
there's act of combat there. very active fighting. with russian regular army and with ukraine regular army and our site has been struggling a bit in way marupole in particular is difficult and there's been a humanitarian crisis there and there are wounded there and dead there. but we're untiebl retrieve for a tile being so a lot of russian military very high concentration of russian military in the south eastern direction of ukraine. we do have certain whims but that is very important to understand -- for international community, ukrainians are doing well, however, this isn't a fight we can win alone still because kyiv still stands we do have significant issues with our eastern and southern part.
7:39 pm
lawrence: melania i tell you as american i have been so touched by you guys resilience and your faith. and just sheer will and grit. what is your message to americans out there today? >> well we're not just fighting our fight. that's the biggest issue about this. it's that it's -- putin is kind of person, obviously, that will not just stop at a rational you know, he -- he is losing this fight. but it does mean for him that -- so people should bare that in mind he will threaten everybody's security. that enmoos regular people, other countries, and if he's led to do that, then everybody is in danger and that has to do with regular americans as with, i mean, he's, obviously, at this point so that has to be taken in account and protecting ukraine means protecting civilize free

world actually. lawrence: we have our film crews and other station have their film crews so we're able to see some of what's happening on the ground the innocent targeting of civilian shooting that the press as well. but what aren't we seeing that's happening on the ground? paint a picture for us. >> well, obviously, ofnl wounded and dead children that is something you can see and that is -- like that is most horrifying experience and we will win, obviously, but the idea of so many people losing their homes -- we're going to -- we have to rebuild our entire country. this is not an ordeal for leak a couple of months for us for active space. we are suffering great losses not only in human terms but also
7:41 pm
economically. and our live -- lives are ruined and our children have no childhood. kids are being born in shelters and i know families here i know people here who came here with their kids they don't have a childhood anymore and they're forever traumatized by this experience. so this is very important to understand as well some day we will win and everybody will leave and go home. and we will be left here with the aftermath. and i know for a while very well that civilize world is not going to leave us alone but that has to be thawnd we have an entire generation of kids -- adolescents brought into this. lawrence: despite it all we will win. thanks so much. i appreciate it. we continue to pray for you

guys. president biden speaking back home with ukrainian president volodymr zelenskyy in the night and made a plea for help asking members of congress for several action items as russia keeps up with this war on ukraine. kevin corke is live in washington for us tonight. kevin what do you know? >> good evening a powerful and emotional plea from ukrainian president slen zelenskyy this morning urging them by zoom call to do more to forge vladimir putin to end this war on his country and among leaders request during this call, very interesting, he's asking once again for a no-fly zone. he's also which is not a surprise by the way, you and i have had an opportunity to speak about this at length. he's also asking for -- an import ban on russian oil and no surprise here, more direct military aid.

meanwhile emotional zelenskyy told those on call we're talking about 300 people by the way that's a lot of folks listening to every last word that he uttered through his translators. he told them that this may be the last time he's actually seen alive. and while he expressed his deep and abiding appreciation for previous and current u.s. security assistance, he still is asking washington to go a step farther to do more. making a direct appeal for more planes with about more drones, and yes more stinger antiaircraft missiles. zelenskyy through a translator of what's at stake here this will become europe's problem. end quote -- shockingly all of this is happening lawrence, with joe biden weak ending at his xowngd in deeing and the vice president kamala harris prepares for a trip to poland for high level talks we understand she'll also speak with leaders in romania with existing relationships in

diplomatic position is i think going to be counterproductive to say the least. lawrence: yeah. sarah let's talk about the sanctions -- the russian president has said that the sanctions are a act of war. >> certainly that is well a threat to both the united states and the western world. and this is, you know, this is not a surprise to me. and to others who are familiar with vladimir putin and how e he operates this is old kgb guy worked under hard liners in russia and he's himself a hardliner and lay out threats we saw it even when he lined up his troops along polish border he made very well his threats in ukraine. and we seen what he's done in marypoles and other parts of ukraine with literally put civilian lives at risk right now reuters is reporting more than
7:46 pm
350 plus civilian have been killed in ukraine. so as far as this sanction go those sanctions need to have feet those sanctions he needs to know those people that are very close and support him are going to turn on him. but i tell you this, even in that event, it probably won't change lawrence. what i'm thinking is most important here and it is what president zelenskyy has asked for it is stop import of russian oil in 2021 we were importing 209,000 barrels of russian oiling right now and right now 100 a barrel so that would be around $21 so 21 million a day in russian oil even if it is -- even if you think that is only a 10% as jen psaki said of what's coming into the united states as significant meaning that we're supporting russia war in ukraine. >> monica a quick final word to you on this. what would donald trump do when it comes to this issue?

designed not just to freeze assets but to cease them. but as sarah points out bigots is targeting energy sector that's something that trump would do if, in fact, he takes situation like. >> monica sarah thorning for joining me with this breaking news. we will be right back. as a barista during rush hour. and a nanny to a couple of rambunctious kids. now, all that experience has led her to a job that feels like home. with home instead, you too can become a caregiver to older adults, with a career that makes a difference. ♪♪ apply today. ♪♪
