cheese. and he's not wrong. and the main thing washington lies about is money. they will beg, borrow or steal to help themselves, using any inside information they can. while you are a day late and a dollar short. and the war in ukraine is no different. vladimir putin was building up troops along the ukraine border for months, washington knew it, biden knew there were briefings, the satellite images got passed around congress: the sanctions talk was swirling. >> i made it absolutely clear to president putin -- this is the last thing i will say -- that if he moves on ukraine, the economic consequences for his economy are going to be devastating, devastating. >> jesse: this invasion was brewing for months and washington was assembling the economic sanctions packages behind closed doors. they knew this would impact the

global economy and you directly. so you would figure that congress elected to represent our interest, would do something ahead of time to warn us and protect us against what was coming. guard americans from the economic turmoil. maybe they would take early action to cushion us from economic warfare. get ahead of the energy crisis. brace us for the commodity spikes and warn us about the supply chain fallout. sounds reasonable, right? well, not how d.c. works. instead, it looks like congress saw this as a gold rush. they knew what sanctions could be coming down and all they had dollar signs in their eyes. members from both sides of the political aisle poured money into the market, buying up defense stock, energy stocks, so as ukraine burned to the ground

congress got rich it starts with debbie wasserman shultz, the former chair of the democrat party. in late january, more than a month before the invasion wasser isman schultz purchased up to $45,000 worth of hat terson uti energy stock. what do they do? the company drills for oil and gas. drill, debbie, drill. and it's shot through the roof since then. jumping nearly 60% in value since she bought it. she sits on the energy and national security subcommittees, too. is buying up energy stock. while national security situation here is looming. she didn't buy any windmill stock. that's so weird. funny, because biden was predicting energy prices were going down at the time. maybe she knew something we didn't. and unfortunately she is not

alone. then we have lois frankel, another democrat sitting on the energy subcommittee, she snatched up two energy stocks in early january. tes and diamondback energy which have both jumped nearly 10% since. it's so funny because frankel is a member of the progressive caucus which backs the green new deal and she is buying informs fill fuel companies in the run-up to a war. this is what we are dealing with. but it's not just in the house the senate is getting in on the war profiteering trades too. tommy turebleville senate armed services committee which you figure might know a thing or two about potential war sanctions snagged up to $15,000 worth of chevron and another 50 grand worth of duke energy. over a month before the invasion, looks like tomi was pretty clued in that russia was going in.

producer of fertilizer materials. and russia and belarus happened to be the two largest exporters of fertilizer. and it just so happens that carper is already up 40% on the january investment. we have been going after congress for the app.ance of insider trading since the start of this show. you know, we targeted pelosi and her perfect timing, that golden touch she has. and this situation is no different it doesn't matter what party you belong, to the role of the people's house is to protect us not members of congress. we reached out to each member's office for comment. and one got back to us. senator carper's office telling

us hin his investments are handled by independent financial advisers. independent. wow. so maybe the senator's financial adviser knew there was going to be a war in ukraine, too. smart guy. but it's a sad reality. what's happening in our nation's capital. and there is a lot more where this all came from and we are going to be reporting on this suspicious congressional stock trading in the run-up to the ukraine war next week, too. so, ride with prime time. congress wasn't warning us about high gas prices and fertilizer and food shortages in january. what was congress doing in january? oh, yeah. they were mourning january 6th. the rest of january they scold to us wear a mask. but behind the scenes they were plotting to profit off war. time and time again members of congress chose to put themselves ahead of the american people.

even after -- you ready? raking in a record amount of tax revenue. according to reports, the federal government collected over $1.8 trillion in total taxes. through the first five months of fiscal year 2022. new record. so where did it go? congress is just wasting it on pork, fraud and abuse. they are spending money to defend another nation's borders. not ours. keep other nations' streets safe, not ours. and helping other countries produce more energy, not ours. you would think that at least they would give us back some of the cash. but there is no tax cut coming any time soon. there is no inflation relief. there is no gas tax holiday. instead, they are trying to spend billions more just paying back their political donors. and driving up inflation higher and higher.

your money down the drain. while they call their financial adviser and make it rain. now it's the people of ukraine who are being taken advantage of. the world sees suffering but congress, they see dollar signs. karl rove is the former white house deputy chief of staff. george w. bush and a fox news contributor. all right, karl. am i being too tough on these guys? is this all this thing one big coincidence? >> well, you know, the one senator who got back to you tom carper who said it was his financial adviser, he has got a trust. a blind trust it doesn't mean he doesn't know what's in it because that blind trust has to report all of its trades, but he doesn't make those decisions. they are made by his investment trustee and if the investment trustee is getting advice from carper, if carper is telling go invest in the fertilizer manufacturer it's a violation of

the law that guy would lose his license and his livelihood if he did it. when i was in the white house. >> jesse: but karl. >> go ahead. >> jesse: can i just add one thing? our team here says that if it's in a blind trust it, doesn't have to be disclosed. yet, this was disclosed. >> that's not accurate. that's not accurate. but members of congress have to have their -- all of their aids disclosed if they are in a trust. the trustee has to provide that information so it could then be affirmed. but, no, there is no. >> jesse: take it up with the brain room. >> i did earlier. with all due respect to all the brains in the brain room. i think they are wrong on this one. >> jesse: okay. >> when i was at the white house, i had to sell all of my individual stocks. i was allowed to hold broadly based mutual funds that were on -- in essence on an approved list. that may be one it way to deal with congress. on the other hand, i'm not in favor of saying that members of congress can't invest in the market. i would rather that they either be forced to do it through like

white house staff and do it through broadly based mutual funds or all of them be required to do it through trustees, blind trusts. i don't want congress to be only limited to people who are hermits and are not investors in the great american economy. >> jesse: let me just get karl rove's opinion on just an example. we're in a run-up to a war. and they are on these subcommittees on energy and national security. and they're getting briefings for months and months. they are getting intelligence, they are getting briefing. and some of these democrats, they are buying oil companies. they are buying drilling companies, all the while biden is saying we are bringing gas prices down and you guys need to buy electric cars. they are not buying tesla. they are buying energy and drilling companies here. and they're buying fertilizer companies. come on, karl. you are not seeing anything a little bit sketchy about what's going on here?

and they're not warning the rest of the person public what's coming down the pipeline? >> we got two different things here. we have got people buying stocks that are in violation, if you will, of their own self-professed views. i'm for green energy. i'm for the green new deal. and yet i'm buying diamondback energy which incidentally has one of the coolest is symbols on the entire wall street. diamondback energy symbol is fang aang that is a problem. hold them up be of being guilty of hypocrisy. if you want to make public policy for the rest of the country, that it's anti-energy, you better not be buying energy companies but the other one i'm not buying. i'm not buying that we have evidence that they were sitting there saying you know what i know for fact certain that we're going to have an invasion in i'm sitting here in january and on january 10th and i'm going to

like. here is our report. >> 63-year-old vitaly is one of the many vernal residents stuck in the besieged ukrainian town of irpin. while he hears russian sales exploding nearby he can't see the destruction they cause. >> i'm blind. i can't see anything. i'm absolutely blind. >> with no shops or markets open, it's hard enough to get supplies. for vitaly it's impossible. >> i hear some explosions, i'm scared as everyone else, but what can i do? >> right now we are deep inside the ukrainian town of irpin, it's partially controlled by russian forces at this moment and they are shelling different ukrainian positions in the distance. trying to increase their territorial gains. >> irpin looks like a ghost town. splintered buildings line the street. the aftermath of attacks. further evidence of indiscriminate shelling and airstrikes. on the frontlines irpin flattened neighborhoods. this is part of a scorched earth campaign used by the russians to

building, a shoe factory. all leveled to the ground from huge blasts. but amid all this death and destruction, ukrainians have made some significant gains against the russian military. they are staying pretty strong on defense, blowing up russian tanks, ambushing russian soldiers. defending their country at all costs. and they need to stay focused. as we just reported, satellite images showed that that 30-mile convoy that's been inching towards the capital has redeployed potentially repositioning to take a direct strike at the capital city. retired u.s. navy commander and military analyst kirk will he polled and former army intel officer and senior contributor at the federalist chuck devore. all right, chuck, these migs, biden said no, no migs. do you think that was a bad call? >> i think the worst call, jesse was this public debate. it was a complete fiasco and it

really damaged u.s. credibility. it lowered our ability to deter both russian actions and future actions from the people's republic of china. it was the worst of all worlds. if they weren't going to do it, just be quiet about it and just don't do it. >> jesse: it's like getting into a fight with your girlfriend in public. you know, you never want to do that. it's not a good look. kirk, you are pro-mig or anti-mig? what's your strategy there? >> absolutely pro-mig. part of the reason i would say that, jesse, up until this point, putin has dictated the tempo of this war by saying if you do this, i will react like this, and the united states and our allies have backed off. it's time for us to start setting the tempo and saying we're going to give ukraine the migs and if you do anything to interfere with this we will respond accordingly and make sure that putin knows we are going to start setting the tempo on what we are allowed to do to support the ukrainian so they

can defend their country effectively. >> jesse: kirk, does that worry you at all in any way that it's going to drag us closer and closer to an escalation path with the russians we don't really want to get involved in that, i thought. >> well, i think that's a convenient political term right now, jesse. my analysis is a little bit different than most. in my view, world war iii has already started. we are just in the slow burn phase right now. the reality of it is when you look at everything decades building up. georgia in 2008. now with ukraine. is he intending on reestablishing the russian empire. the soviet mold and unfortunately, we are seeing a country being disseminated as a result. >> jesse: chuck, do you agree that we are already in world war iii and do you agree that putin's army, is that ferocious that it could even gobble up anything larger than ukraine at the time because it looks like

it's having a pretty tough time. >> you are right, jesse, it is having a tough time. two things about that. first of all, i'm very concerned about these massive economic deals that were consummated between china and russia months ago as if they were coordinating this action and knew that russia would be under severe economic sanctions. you are absolutely right about the under performance of the russian military that opens another danger. per russian doctrine i would not be surprised at all if they resorted to the use of chemical weapons soon and you saw that jesse. they tell graphed it when the russian ministry of foreign affairs today warned that ukraine might themselves use chemical weapons. they are testing the reaction from the west. and if this happens, all bess are off. nato had better come down because the civilian casualties will be absolutely catastrophic. >> jesse: kirk, do you agree that they intend to use bioand germ? >> i don't know about the bio

>> jesse: costing our truckers over $1,000 to fill up the tank to transport items and grocery prices are already way up. it's only a matter of time before beef, bread, milk, all of this stuff gets even more expensive. and people can't afford it they are going to say you got milk? say no. i mean, you got to get these gas prices under control now. and they should have started a while ago. you would think biden would be concerned and on top of it, you would be wrong. >> going to go up. has to be reserves here in the states that they could release more. >> that's a bunch of bull. >> i pay more last week to fill my car up over two years. $75 for one fill-up. >> my busy drive gets about 5 miles a gallon. so i might not be going anywhere. >> things have to change, please. >> jesse: joining me now multiunit restaurant owner jeff andrew grewell. andrew $11 for a gallon of milk. that can't be real, can it. >> it could be real. talk about the price of cereal, right? a bowl of cheerios for $25 without gold flakes on there? that's what we are looking at. >> jesse: because of wheat prices you think it's going to that high? >> look, there is two ways you can look at that. actually conflating. one hand actually all commodity prices are going to group because gas prices. takes diesel and fuel to produce and ultimately harvest all the food that go on our plates.

also takes gas to transport and ultimately get that food to us as well. that's conflating to increasing at a rate we never would have imagined number one. number two, look at basic food insecurity and where all of our food comes from. a significant portion is produced and exported from russia and ukraine, right? global economy so beautiful we will see our prices change based on the fact that hundreds of thousands of miles away they are decreasing their production. that's why i have always waxed poetic typicfully a leotard about the need to domestic indicate our own food supply. i say to people ask yourself where does your food come from? and that's when it comes down to moments like this when we realize we are relying on so many other people and we got obviously these figure heads up there. i feel like living in a simulation written by some stone basement dweller laughing at us. the response of just keel with the increase in prices.

there is no strategy. there is no plan to any of this. we are just watching these prices go up like well, don't even make me use an analogy here. >> jesse: there is no plan. it's putin's fault. so what are you doing at your restaurant? if i go i know you are going to give me a deal friends and family discount. thank you. are you raising prices because of what is going on? >> we have. to say the rate at which you have to raise prices can't even keep up with inflation. that's the thing. then you ultimately price yourself out of the market. so you are going to start to see people consolidating labor. cutting labor. then you are going to see actually less people go into the workforce and that's going to create a massive disruption in what we were calling this kind of recovery for the economy. but, mind you, in this $15 billion, trillions of dollars being printed, there is no money set aside for this restaurant kind of relief replenish nor the employee retention credit program which effectively was a way in which restaurants could continue paying their workers more and above minimum wage.
