shelter itself survived in tact and they are now in the process of bringing out those who survived that destruction there in mariupol. in the meantime, we're also seeing terribly disturbing video of bodies on the ground in chernahiv. we are being told those people were killed by russian troops who opened fire on the people waiting in line to get bread. russian attacks go oincluding one in on a school near eastern city of kharkiv, president putin is using some extraordinary language in talking about how he intends to clamp down on opposition in russia. listen here, very carefully to these words from the russian president vladamir putin.

conflicts within 24 hours. jonathan, this sounds like a new nato alliance he wants to be a part of. what are the chances of something like that happen something what are you hearing on the ground about that? >> jonathan: honestly, carley, very slim. what the president of ukraine is looking for obviously, some kind of security guarantee. i think natoinations including the u.s. will try to work toward some kind of language that is acceptable to both russians and the ukrainians in any peace deal ultimately, but a new alliance is not something it seems that the russian would be willing to accept because in their view, that is going to be as you point out, nato simply under a different name. >> todd: we've been talking about peace talks for weeks and i understand that vladamir putin has this idea of peace through

aggression, through actual violence and aggression, but that statement, like you just brought to us brings this to next level. how can peace talks be view realistic when putin is talking like that? >> jonathan: right. it is extraordinary language. i think the most extraordinary we have heard from vladamir putin in a long time, possibly the most extraordinary language you heard from any russian leader since stalin himself and putin is looking to stalin as a hero in his eyes and he is echoing that kind of language. you hear somebody talking about the cleansing of a country? we've not heard that since the ethnic cleansing talked about in the war in the former yugoslavia and going back further than that, cleansing is something you associate with language we had

never ask others to do what you're unwilling to do. he has asked the people of ukraine to stand and fight, that's exactly what he has done. leadership is always putting yourself in the front of the line and say follow me, rather than hey, you guys, go do this. and it's been a remarkable inspiration. >> carley: that is so true. you know, we heard from president zelenskyy yesterday and then shortly after president biden's response and it was in the form of $800 million worth of aid. the migs weren't a part of that package. congress was clearly moved and motivated by volodymyr zelenskyy's speech. do you think members of congress will be able to pressure president biden to move forward and take that next step to help zelenskyy and his cause? >> carley, i certainly hope so. the thing i want to make sure that everybody fully understands, zelenskyy has not

called for american soldiers to land and parachute on ukrainian soil and fight their fight. he has not asked for u.s. air force pilots to fly over those skies. what he has asked for is the tools so that he and his people can do the fighting against the russian aggressors. and that's something that i don't think gets emphasized enough. so when people say we are going to draw america into the war. well, no, what we're going to do is supply the capacity for ukraine to fight back this evil maniacal dictator, vladimir putin, who is, i think, maybe the worst dictator tyrant since adolf hitler. when you show just a little bit ago those horrible pictures where they are bombing theaters, knowing children are there, how much more evil can one be than that. >> todd: finally governor a blow to patriotism in the u.s. the national park service blocking

the mount rushmore fourth of july celebration second year in a row citing tribal concerns but also fire concerns. it's march. how do they know what the dew point is going to be four months from now, governor. >> todd, these are the smartest people in the world. they can predict the weather 60 years from now plus 60 days from now. it is absurd. it's one thing to sail if there is a fire danger, that's legitimate. let's wait until maybe a few days or even a week before to make that determination. in the meantime, americans could be cheated from a spectacular display of patriotism. sometimes you wonder does the biden administration want a very red state like south dakota to be able to do that and celebrate this great country of ours? >> carley: you know, governor, president zelenskyy even mentioned mount rushmore in his speech yesterday, recalling when he visited and saw the faces of the founding fathers who laid out and the presidents who laid out the future of our country.
