my parents, my heart got blown out. they are my we are wanted to talk to you for. and hello, everybody. i'm chris gallagher in los angeles. as we continue our live coverage of the war in eastern europe, it is 10:00 p.m. here on the west coast, seven o'clock thursday morning in the capital city of kyiv. the battle for ukraine's independence now on day twenty two and ukrainian president vladimir zelenskyy now voicing appreciation, saying he's thankful for additional us military aid. but exactly what's in it he won't disclose saying he doesn't want to tip off russia. we are also just hours away from highly anticipated talks between president biden and chinese president xi jinping. secretary of state anthony blinken has already warned china it will be punished if military aid is given to russia. we believe china in particular has a responsible to use its influence with president putin and to defend the international rules and principles that it
10:02 pm
professes to support in our region. >> coupled with the chief correspondent and co-anchor of tonight's show, jonathan hunt, he's standing by in latvia. jonathan, good morning. to you. good morning to you, trace. and we have breaking news here from lévy just a short time ago we heard air raid sirens once again and we now understand that the airport here in lviv or a target very close to the airport has been struck. we believe, by around three cruise missiles that strike. we don't know if there are any casualties in it. the airport, by the way, here shut down obviously as you can imagine for weeks now for commercial flights but quite possibly used as some military activity. it's about three and a half miles from where we're standing right now. so that's the breaking news as we enter week four of this ongoing war with ukrainians being told trace
10:03 pm
that the russian ground forces are essentially stole. the ukrainians also being told that peace talks are inching along. that's what it being told. what they're feeling and seeing is continued suffering and continued death under the russian russian bombardment . take a look at these pictures from kyiv which continues to be hit by russian forces. you can see the flames there erupting from an apartment building that was hit. it continues elsewhere as well in mariupol. we have talked about the shelling there yesterday of the theater of just getting more news on this. just come back to us for a second. getting more news right now on the attack here in veve today our producer andrew phoned me information here that there's been a strike north east of the city. northeast of this is northeast of lviv, northeast of the city
10:04 pm
where some georgian fighters are believed to have been. so that's what's happening here in lviv. in the meantime, we're talking about the stalinesque of the russian offensive on the ground. it's clearly going on still in the air. but we've seen some pictures of russian tanks which are, if you like, digging into defensive positions. that's interesting. that's on the outskirts of kievan speaks to the idea that they're not able to move in on the ground on in the capital city. president zelenskyy, meantime, has been visiting some of those wounded in this ongoing war . he's also saying he's not going to give any more details about the military aid that ukraine is getting from the u.s. and from other nato nations because he says he wants to surprise the russians with the weaponry that they're bringing in . he's also saying he's not going to talk about the peace talks. he clearly feels the private diplomacy will be
10:05 pm
more effective than public diplomacy. we'll bring you more as we get it. trace this strike here in lviv. details of the moment as you can imagine. but we can confirm that there has been a strike in the area of the city where we are right now. and very quickly, jonathan, you say the airport is about three and a half miles from where you are standing. how far is that airport from the polish border because there clearly has been concerns about russia kind of pushing the envelope, pushing toward poland. yeah, that would put i would say about 40 miles from the polish border. so that's clearly a concern as well that again, they're getting very close to the border of a fully fledged member of nato. we will update breaking news with you in moments. jonathan, thank you . meantime, the u.s. house passing a bill to suspend normal trade relations with russia and belarus. the measure which would allow the u.s. to impose steep tariffs on russian imports
10:06 pm
passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and now heads to the senate. fox news correspondent madeline rivera brings us more on this story from the nation's capital . the bill is passed and another move to further punish president putin. the house voted thursday to undercut russia's most favored nation trade status. the bipartisan bill would allow president biden to high tariffs on russian goods between now and 2024. we must do everything in our power to hold russia accountable for american dollars will no longer fund russia's war machine. but congress won't grant president zelenskyy biggest ask, which is a no fly zone over ukraine. even though some lawmakers have signaled they are open to the notion. ukraine has every right to defend their airspace still, as russia continues its siege in ukraine, killing more civilians including an american citizen and others argue the next best thing
10:07 pm
includes sending fighter jets to zelenskyy. in addition to the eight hundred million dollar security package the president announced wednesday give him the air superiority that he needs to protect a city. the biden administration showing no signs so far of giving in to that request over concerns that doing so could escalate the war. as president putin downplays the economic sanctions that have been slapped on russia. yes, he feels there are all conditions for large russian business structures which frankly used to be afraid of some sanctions. >> now they have nothing to fear. it's unclear when the senate will take up the house bill to suspend normal trade relations with russia. meanwhile, president biden is getting ready to speak with chinese president xi jinping on friday as the u.s. wants china against siding with russia and washington. mallat rivera, fox news. well, russian forces have largely been stopped by a strong ukrainian resistance. they have taken no big cities while incurring heavy, heavy casualties. pentagon press secretary john kirby says signs point to the russians having problems in a number of areas, including
10:08 pm
cases of poor morale. he went on to say quoting here some of that is we believe a function of poor leadership, lack of information that the troops are getting about their mission and objectives. joining us now, fox news contributor and former cia steve hoffman and always great to see you. what do you make of vladimir putin kind of taking a page from joseph stalin know saying listen, we are going for the purification of the traitors? yeah. so it's it's very difficult to ascertain the morale of the military fighting force as well as the russian civilian population. but make no mistake that they're both under great duress. you know, vladimir putin promised stability in russia and he's delivered an economy which has cratered worse, arguably than it was in 1998 during the financial collapse. there. as you noted, the russian advance has slowed and bogged down and there are lots of
10:09 pm
anecdotal evidence of russian soldiers with poor morale. and so what we saw yesterday was this unhinged speech from vladimir putin where he talked about a fifth column and we're seeing repression at home. reportedly he's removing senior leaders and there's a massive full throttled propaganda and then people are being arrested for calling what is a war. they're being arrested. if they don't if they call to war instead of what putin wants, which is a special military operation, they've gone back to like george orwell 1984. but the concern is that vladimir putin will take ever more extreme measures. would he ? you know, he's already, as you noted in lviv launching on civilian targets with long range missiles. there's still the potential he would use chemical weapons or nuclear weapons as well. yeah, i mean you talk about going back to nineteen eighty four then i would suggest i mean this kind of behavior goes back to the greek wars right where you have these rulers who who they make mistakes, they lose confidence,
10:10 pm
they get paranoid and they start turning on their own people is a little bit of that kind of happening here. you know, we may be seeing a little bit of that again. there are there are reports of vladimir putin turning on his own people on his own, his senior people. he's got to blame somebody. he's looking for scapegoats for all of his own mistakes. this is his war and i think that's why it's important for president biden to get up on the bully pulpit and emphasize just that to the russian people. we are not you know, this is vladimir putin's war . there may not be an off ramp for him. you know, he's barreling down ukraine cities including lviv, as you pointed out, in kyiv and kharkiv and others. but there's an off ramp for the russian military when they decide that they're done taking orders from the kgb guy in the kremlin who's who's telling them that they need to strike innocent civilian targets. on the flip side of this , you have the washington post which wrote part in part here, dan , the weakness of russia's military could drive the cost much higher for ukrainians and the countries assisting their brave defense.
10:11 pm
failing militaries can be even more dangerous than successful ones. i mean, it looks like putin could get desperate and dangerous. right? and until we reach a tipping point where russia stops there ,the danger only grows and that's why it's counterintuitive. but that's why we've got to give more military assistance to ukraine is why they need more javelins and stingers and they need us three hundreds and migs if we don't tip the balance heavily in favor of ukraine, we're looking at exactly the kind of scenario that you that you paint and it's a really dark one . you know, i got to go then. but you know, zelenskyy keeps pushing for this no fly zone and there's a reason, right? the russian troops have stalled and zelenskyy knows if he gets a no fly zone even if it's not totally effective, it really could turn the tide in this war maybe in their favor. yeah, i wish we would stop ruling things out and taking
10:12 pm
things off the table. you know, i could there's just no reason to do that . maybe there is a piece of that ukrainian air space that we could occupy to provide a humanitarian corridor, for example. but again, i think us planes in the air, the risk of kinetic engaging with russia probably too much for for this administration, for a majority of republicans, democrats. but again, giving zelenskyy the means to establish zone no fly zone by targeting russian aircraft. why not? yeah, listen, without air power all of a sudden russia looks very weak. dan hoffman, always great to see you. thank you . and when we come back , we'll talk to a race car driver who is helping orphans and others in need get out of ukraine offering them rides to poland. what he goes through to get them to safety will shock the american. i never sb54 six million

continuing coverage now of breaking news out of lavae that is in the western part of ukraine near the polish border where missiles have now been confirmed. let's get back to our chief correspondent and co-anchor jonathan hunt who is live for us on the ground in leveed. jonathan trace, as we understand it, those cruise missiles hit the lviv airport,
10:18 pm
which is about three miles directly behind me here. we're seeing some videos popping up on twitter. we have yet verified those so we're not going to show them to you as yet. but we're seeing large clouds of smoke above the airport that we don't know precisely what the target would have been . obviously there's no commercial flights going in and out of lviv or anywhere else in ukraine for that matter the last few weeks. but there may have been in the russian view at least a military target. the and the attacks in ukraine becoming increasingly inhumane. obviously trace people are now being pulled from what remains of a theater in mariupol after it was hit by an air strike. hundreds of people were sheltering inside when the building was struck and 10 people were shot to death apparently while waiting in line for food in the city of churney inhumanity in ukraine emerges as putin calls for self
10:19 pm
purification of what he termed traitors and scum. joining us now, matt shoemaker ,formerly with the defense intelligence agency. and matt, when i first heard yesterday those words from president putin, those who opposed me essentially are scum and traitors and we want the cleansing or purification of society. i immediately thought, well, ethnic cleansing in the former yugoslavia back in the 1990s other than that , we even heard that sort of language in europe since the days of nazi germany or joseph stalin himself in russia. it was shocking. jonathan, thanks for very much for having me on it. it certainly was certainly felt as if it should have been in a movie or something out of george orwell certainly was very stalinesque and actually in the past day there was a large exodus of private plane that left moscow and landed in dubai. it's likely a number of oligarchs were fleeing russia
10:20 pm
after putin singled out yesterday. as you mentioned, in his speech to government officials where he called them traitors and said that they would be cleansed from russian society. it looks like they got the message and decided to leave before putin had the opportunity to arrest them . >> interesting. so that was what are saying is that there was a group of flights of private jets that left moscow right as president putin was speaking basically not as he was speaking. it was certainly a few hours afterwards. but there were a number of planes, private planes that are believed to be owned by by oligarchs themselves that have traveled down south through russia through iranian airspace and landed in dubai. what do you think it says that the comments from president putin, the actions in terms of getting at getting away from russia about the situation there as president putin feeling the pressure domestically from
10:21 pm
what i've seen the reports is that word is certainly getting out at least that the message that the russian government is trying to portray to its population is not as it appears and it's even come to the point where even the chinese now have made a significant change in their media coverage today. the chinese state media, which has until now been parroting russian propaganda, they were broadcasting day that the russian troops, as you mentioned, had killed 10 people waiting for bread. so for them to to overtly state that in their in their state media is really quite a significant change in at least the way that the chinese are even looking at this now. yeah, that is really interesting, i think. martin, thank you for bringing that up. what do you think the significant or i guess it's hard to overstate the significance of the cold scheduled for a few hours time between president biden and xi jinping in china?
10:22 pm
it certainly seems like the american side is trying to use as many different opportunities to put pressure on mr. putin himself. i think this will be hopefully at least very beneficial. it seems like the chinese are making their own decision independent of the americans at this point. they see the writing on the wall and i think that they the chinese at least are seeing how poorly mr. putin has had executed this operation and just from the way that the media itself in china is portraying it as of today, it seems that we may be seeing a a shift, if you will, from the chinese perspective. but it certainly will be the efforts of president biden to really get the chinese to turn the screws, if you will, on mr. putin. >> right, matt , great to talk to you as always. and that certainly is going to be a key goal in this conflict when the two leaders speak later today. and we'll have much more on that . jonathan, back to you with breaking news in moments. meantime, people from all walks of life are coming to
10:23 pm
the rescue of ukrainians. three million people have now left the country. one of the people have racecar driver david kaspi. you know, he's in ukraine across the border into poland. david, thank you so much for coming on . we appreciate it. you you have called yourself on social media uber for orphans. how in the world, david, are you getting in touch with these people to know where and when to pick them up on this earth mostly through social media? they are finding out that i was doing this and then day after day i get inundated with people saying, hey, can you get this personality that we can get these kids out of out of this leave? so mostly through social media now, but i really don't have time. so i check my social media at the end of the day for who's probably the youngest and the most worse off today leaving for for fauci than the missile hit. so i'm standing on the side of the road and everything shut down midflight hit about about
10:24 pm
half a kilometer from here. i could still see the smoke in the background. yeah, it's been interesting to get between thirty one and fifty orphans a day if my husband from six in the morning to 10:00 at night and that's using all of my curfew time to just barely make it back to somewhere to hunker down and sleep, sometimes i have to pull over at a military checkpoint or sleep in a sleeping bag and it's awful cold but 15% using my off-road racing skills to get out here. yeah, you got awesome skills. you wrote on social media. david work starts by driving through multiple checkpoints around tank traps, tire piles, molotov cocktails in a concrete machine gun nests. i have to go three different gas stations to fill up as a ration. you have four gallons. that sounds like the hardest off road race of your life. david. pretty much it's the bomb potholes that are the worst.
10:25 pm
the biggest problem i have is the kids get motion sick and there's drama. i mean, i'm in foreign country so i got there and went to donate and over drowning i mean really helps. you also said about medicine early on that you needed more medicine, whatever people could give . are you getting what you need so far, david? no, no, not even close. i was able to get about fifty thousand dollars worth of insulin and that was that in the pharmacy here. tampons, believe it or not, are really good at stopping blood from bullet issues. we really need those just anything baby formula is huge that that's a big one . animal food, you know, it's just about anything you could think of in a war zone that you miss the water starting to dry up and some of the cities i going to and there's a lot of dysentery happening to the volunteers here. so any kind of medicine,
10:26 pm
dysentery with water to david, you and i have a common friend. his name is my father. you know, as well he and all of your people back home are so proud of the work you are doing . keep at it, my friend. you are you are really making a difference over there. and thank you for coming on tonight. we appreciate it. thank you for your time, sir. that was a reality tv star who says he could no longer sit back and do nothing is now on the ground in warsaw delivering supplies to ukrainian refugees. we'll talk to him about what he's seeing there next on new media. i'm proud to bring you this . she's a hero moment. one day she'll change a world. i grew up wanting to go into medicine. we're trained for anything that comes to make a difference. there was no playbook so we became innovative to work endless days. i told my cybercom through the store she'll be there when we need her . we're always working as a team.

10:31 pm
five hundred sometimes thirty on fox i never even left one . what's your emergency her down the hard work not do not take your foot off the gas. i'm getting a reading now that's a new one lifespring for me this monday followed by lone star on fox or watch any time by the hour. now let's check our top story reports that an airport in the city of lviv has been struck by russian cruise missiles. let's get back to the breaking coverage with our chief correspondent and co-anchor jonathan hunt, who is standing by in leveed. jonathan, trace, the lviv airport is about three and a half miles or so directly
10:32 pm
behind me here and we understand several cruise missiles slammed into or at very near that airport just about 45 minutes ago. we are seeing pictures that we're working to confirm a very large plume of smoke rising above the airport right now. so we heard the air raid sirens and it was within minutes of that those cruise missiles apparently slammed into the airport just a few miles from our position here. we don't know, frankly, what the target would have been specifically. trace obviously it is an airport. no commercial flights obviously going out since this war began . it's possible that there were military assets that ukrainian military assets. and it's also worth remembering that last weekend, just about 30 miles away, the very military airbase was hit by eight cruise missiles. they fired 30 in that instance.
10:33 pm
twenty two of them were taken down by air defense systems, but the average military base took a great deal of damage. so it is possible that some of the military assets there were moved here to the lviv airport. all we know for the moment, though, is that there was a strike. we have no word on casualties. we'll bring you more details as soon as we get them and we will get back to you in moments. jonathan, thank you . ukraine's president vladimir zelenskyy says he is thankful to president biden for additional military aid. it's part of a more than 14 billion dollar package the president signed. the bulk of the money is for humanitarian and economic aid to help alleviate the pain and suffering in ukraine. aid is also pouring in from private charities and organizations around the world. tv personality johnny bananas, whose humanitarian group human ushe joins us from warsaw bananas. i know you are always up for a challenge. this is a big one , sir. tell how you and your team are faring as you said.
10:34 pm
i mean, i know my way around a challenge here, but we've dealt with on the ground here is probably the toughest challenge i've ever faced, man. so we labored in warsaw the other day. that's kind of where human on their headquarters is established. they run to refugee hospitals out of here. previously they were used for refugees from tibet, from afghanistan and from belarus. but now they've become a basically a refuge for refugees who are fleeing from ukraine. so we've been accumulating aid over the past few weeks. we've purchased three ambulances and we took all the aid in the form of food, medical aid and other supplies across the border to lviv or to revoke your previous guest. they just got hit with cruise missiles, which is kind of terrifying because we were just there 48 hours ago in the town of laveau.
10:35 pm
in fact, he was right behind. the man i was talking to was actually very close to where those missiles had very close to that airport. i know on social media you said one of the most important things you can do on the earth is to let people though they are not alone. does it build confidence for the ukrainian people to know the world as a rule is pulling for them? i think it does and i mean us to when we were headed to the to the we're headed to the ukrainian border, we saw convoy after convoy from different countries austria, switzerland, czech republic all delivering aid. and when we showed up in ofay when we were delivering the aid, the locals that the locals that we were talking to, i think we're a little bit surprised they heard our accent and we went to a military academy. we went to an oncologist hospital and from the united states and you saw their eyes kind of light up because i think it really lets them know that this is a global initiative. and even though obviously all of europe who has an active
10:36 pm
vested interest in not allowing ukraine to be taken over is our point. i think when they see people coming from as far and wide as the united states in other parts of the world, it's very reassuring to them. i just want again mention the hospital that we delivered our aid to is the only oncology hospital left in ukraine at this point it's in the town of laveau and they said if you can if you could save one thing and if you could put one thing out there, please let them know that we need medical supplies desperately here at this hospital because without cancer treatment is going to be very, very, very difficult in the entire country of ukraine. so nouveaux oncology hospital and you've got i'm giving you 30 more seconds. let us know what do you need? what are you trying to accomplish and what do you need right now? again, the most important thing right now is medical aid and anything any type of aid out that would be at
10:37 pm
the noncollege hospital. it can all be donated to the human organization and they would be able to get the supplies to the much needed medical supplies to a lot of our patients who desperately need it. johnny bananas, you and your team are doing yeoman's work over there. we very much appreciate it. thank you . best of luck to you, sir. thank you . and there are many ways to help, including the red cross. it's one of the organizations providing critical medical and mental health support to those fleeing ukraine. you can join fox by supporting red cross relief efforts, donate by going to the red cross website or use the qr code that's on the banner at the bottom of your screen as well as human oche and some of these other groups that are really, really working over there to get these people medical attention and to get them food and water, which is also pivotal in turning turning this war out. meantime, just hours from now, president biden will speak

it's time to screen can continuing coverage of our breaking news. i want to bring in our chief correspondent, my co-anchor jonathan hunt. jonathan, we talked to a man a short time ago named david espino and he witnessed what you heard. he witnessed the explosions near lviv. he has now given us some of his video and his pictures and we're going to put these on the screen and we'll let you kind of describe it and tell us what you heard just about an hour ago. trist we heard air raid sirens and then this happened appears to be a strike at or very close to the airport. that's just about three and a half miles or so away from our position here. you can see the clouds rising there from that strike as far as we can tell at this point, obviously preliminary information is always difficult to be accurate on , but we think at least three missiles
10:44 pm
hit the airport area and we're also getting some indications that it may have been an aircraft repair facility that was struck. that is interesting in itself because as we were mentioning before, the average military base about 30 miles from us was hit last week. there was a lot of damage done there. it is obviously entirely possible that aircraft was struck in that and damaged slightly and that would then move to the airport, this repair facility and we're being worked on that. we don't know that it is not confirmed at the moment, but one of the theories as to why the russians may have considered that to be a military target meantime, survivors of the horrific attack on the mariupol theater being pulled from the rubble. the u.n. reports about seven hundred and twenty six people have been killed right across ukraine. fifty two of those children. we now go live to fox news medical contributor dr.
10:45 pm
jeannette nishizawa. doctor , it's great to have you here. i know you are not. i just want to ask you first, doctor , your reaction this morning to hearing that there's been a strike just a few miles from you. it's incredible the brave work you're doing. this brings it into pretty stark relief. yeah. you know, we've heard this past week to sound the alarm go off, but this is the first time i actually saw on my way here to the mobile medical unit we could see a large smoke cloud not too far away and it's really disappointing. it's really upsetting. but it seems like, you know, the strikes are getting closer and closer here on the west side. so we have cover go underground. but now that we're cleared to go back and work because we may have patients coming in that we need to take care of. yeah. tell me about the extraordinary work you are doing, doctor , and what you are seeing there.
10:46 pm
we'll jump in . i'm looking in at the at the base of the station where we have people coming in right off the train. they're coming in from key from person to me from all over to see, you know, the dangers that from the bombing. and so some of them come in there with they're dehydrated speeone, lacerations ,fractures. i've had heart attacks with a little baby . so all kinds of patients that were just trying to get them stable and make sure they're okay to move on to wherever they're going, whether it's, you know, in germany or albania or poland. so we're just trying to provide them with that care so that they're well enough to keep going. don't you and so many colleagues of yours, heroic colleagues within the medical profession come here to help from countries all over the world? i know you are trained to deal with all of this . you have to deal with terrible situations often. but what do you feel personally
10:47 pm
when you are dealing with injuries that are caused by a completely unjustifiable war and a man who frankly seems on the edge of sanity in moscow? it's heartbreaking. you know, i cried so many tears with the people here that have told me their stories in one patient. she told me she was on a train, you know, to get out of here. then her train was attacked and she's trying to flee the danger. so it's really heart wrenching. it's saddening and unfortunately it's not slowing down. we're seeing more and more refugees trying to leave, trying to flee. and i think that's why it's important that we continue to support ukraine in every way that we possibly can. and i'm doctor we have up on the screen as we talk now pictures from this port strike today. what does that mean for the safety of you and people like you? will you are you able to stay
10:48 pm
and continue doing your valuable work? so not too far from me is the medical unit where we're seeing patients. but if we hear the alarm, the sirens go down right behind me. we have an underground that we can run and seek shelter to be safe. but it definitely is interfering with patient here when you're trying to do your work and take care of patients, get the sirens are going off. but we're making do and doing the best we can. your bravery, doctor is incredible and the work you are doing there is our viewers know very well from what we have seen of it is really invaluable and so appreciated by the people of ukraine. dr. jenette mishawaka, fox news medical contributor, thank you for everything you do, doctor . we'll get back to you and please stay safe there and continue to do your work. it is extraordinary when you see people like dr. nishu who have just come here, they put that dropped everything back at home in the
10:49 pm
united states and they just come here to help and then you get these airstrikes, these missiles landing just a few miles from them. amazing that they are still here still just trying to do their part. yeah, we should know. and you know, dr. nashwa has for a couple of years kind of held our hand and walked us through this one thing. she's a very calming force. she's a good person to have over there because i'm sure a lot of kids are looking for a little bit of a little bit of calmness, a little bit of resolve. jonathan, back to you. when the breaking news comes back in, let's bring in david martok. he's the chief political correspondent, daily mail to russia. you want to talk about something totally different, but i want to get your take on what's happening just outside of lviv. a couple of explosions we have now confirmed on the ground near an airport one . what do you think about, you know, the russians attacking an airport? and again, jonathan hunt says maybe 30 . thirty five miles from the polish border, which is really kind of pushing the envelope for russia. your thoughts?
10:50 pm
i think you're absolutely right. it's not just any airport. it's the nation's second largest airport. this is not a tiny airfield by any stretch and having it so close to the border is going to impede the progress of refugees. i mean, the polls have already taken and what a million nearly two million refugees at this point it's going to impede the flow of refugees. it's also going to impede the flow of supplies to that part of the country. it's a very bold i think is the kind way to put it, but it really kind of a bold step for them to do that in the open. take out an airfield, take out an airport. it sends a message to the entire city that you're not getting out and frankly, what a lot of people want to do right now is get out. i guess my question would be, david, you know why? i mean, there's no ground troops in that area at all. so you have air forces going they're going after an airport but there's no backup. so you send off these missiles, you fire these things off, you're close to the polish border. you're taunting nato in essence. what's the reasoning behind that ? well, i'm certainly not in the room. i sure. but my guess is that you've got
10:51 pm
military commanders all over ukraine with generally the same instruction, which is take out strategic targets and you know, the russia's russia's achilles heel right now is is logistics and resupply. and you know, you have a military commander in that part of the country who's got the weapons. he's got the people in place. hey, here's a strategic target . my job is to take one out. i don't think there's a lot of deep thinking in terms of which target to hit when if it's a target of opportunity, it's something on their list and they took it out. moving on now to president biden's talks to tomorrow actually later today with president xi. >> it sure seems, david, like your thoughts. >> well, look, the two of them have been playing, you know, you and me against the west for a long time. >> and remember that china has already had an active role in the forget that putin and g met in beijing near the beginning of the winter olympics. he knew what was coming and he asked vladimir putin to delay the tanks rolling into ukraine until after the closing
10:52 pm
ceremonies putin did and that's when the tanks rolled. so it's kind hard right now for china to play the coy part of being disinterested. president biden is clearly going to ask gee to openly condemn the invasion of ukraine. he's not going to do that . we wants the same thing that china always wants wants to be seen as a tough customer ,wants to be feared to be isolated the way china was, say the pre nixon years before its economy bloomed. so he's walking a little of a diplomatic tightrope. i want to play the sound bite from secretary of state anthony blinken. then i'll get your reaction on the other side. >> we believe china in particular has a responsibility to use its influence with president putin and to defend the international rules and principles that it professes to support. instead, it appears that china is moving in the opposite direction by refusing to condemn this aggression while seeking to portray itself as a neutral arbiter and concerned that they're considering directly assisting russia with military equipment
10:53 pm
to use in ukraine. china david, moving in the opposite direction. what if china started supplying weapons to russia? what then? i think china understands that the ramifications of that would be absolutely crippling. it doesn't want to be isolated. i don't think that's going to happen. i think they're going to start handing the russian army meal rations and blankets and that sort of thing. they're not going to go that far. and you know, jen psaki also said today that told a bunch reporters that the failure to condemn this incursion into ukraine flies against everything china stands for. the last time i checked, china basically stands for intimidating taiwan, bleeding the u.s. economy and also, by the way, trying very, very hard to to stay on the good side of everybody. it shouldn't stay on the good side of it. it's a tough place for china to be. i think it's far more likely they're going to try to push cash into russia instead of military supplies, maybe buy up some strategic assets like rare earth mineral deposits while the price is right. that's the kind of thing that fits the gs risk tolerance
10:54 pm
note. by the way, let's not forget china is also the same country that persecuting a against in xinjiang. so whenever when the realities are already and they also do a lot of lying to the united states and the rest of the world, there is a big talking point out there among a lot of analysts that president biden's point no one should be to president xi not to bail russia out. well, i'm sure that's what he'll say. i think the chinese will play coy a little bit and say, well, what do we get in return? i can imagine a scenario where she says, look, we could bail russia out right now or if you don't want us to do that , why don't you just turn the other way while we hassle taiwan next week? they play a little bit of a chess game and put put their queen in the middle of the board and force biden to choose which of his pieces to defend. there's a lot of these games get played. blinken knows this and biden knows it to be a very dangerous game. david murtaugh, great to see you as always. thank you so much for coming on . my pleasure. meantime, the breaking news out
