lviv cities that we've seen in the entire russian invasion here in ukraine. now, it is quiet out right now. these are the curfew hours of the morning so people are told they must stay home. but this street is really quieted out in the evening after those attacks. ukraine president volodymr zelenskyy spoke out celebrating women fightings continuously for the country and condemn russia attack saying, quote, you're turning peaceful cities into ruins, slen ski going ton say that russia actions will be extremely long lasting adding, quote, you are doing it. for one generation and forever, this is another manifestation of your suicidal policy. black smoke billowed out into the sky here in lviv yesterday evening after the sirens sounded off around 4 p.m. local time. mayor office says that the strikes let an oil facility and

a factory both of which linked to the military. in the north of the country on saturday, kyiv was the subject to intense shelling homes in kyiv are destroyed as residents there search in a rubble for their belongings anything that they could find in those remains. outside of the city, workers help evacuate injure residents some of whom had been sheltering in place for days on end. to the west russia continues to hammer mariupol path of the city's population has fled, as resources and bare necessities at this point are drying up and running out. >> nobody helped apartments were burning. we asked to put the the fire and help no one did it. locals guyed on our watch. there's no water, food, nothing. >> president joe biden spoke today in warsaw warning russian it is to stay off nato's soil they have although attacks were

i'm often hesitant to criticize the president when he's on an international trip. but a lot of that was confusing. >> no, more than confusing. it's dangerous. i mean, i think you can say that, you know, here's the president potentially having more war triggering type language than probably any president in american history we need to be careful and precise in things we say particularly commander in chief of our country and i think alex said this was a historical speech. so historical that white house had to cent the record after he gave if. you step back and think about it lawrence we went from -- you know, ronde reagan tear down walls to you have itness of trump and now biden giving speeches where he says i know what i'm doing so that is very dangerous let's hope it stop and let's hope there's an tend this as soon as possible. >> i'm worried because you know, the training wheels have to come off.

the learning period is over. and when you've got the president saying on the world stage that sanctions don't deter. when you have jen psaki and you have the vice president on the world stage also saying that they do deter. i'm just curious what is position of the united states not just the white house, as a member of congress, who has oversight of what this policy is as well, what do we stand on the world? >> no, it is scary but frankly you hate to say that because this is president on foreign soil and wept it to go as good as it possibly can. but it shopght surprise us. these guys have been wrong on everything. in the president you talked about what's happening on southern border these guys have taken a secure border to complete chaos and taken energy independence through the president begging opec iran, and venezuela increase production and went from state street to record level of crime and went from stable prices to 40 year inflation and in energy

situation driving so much and what's happening in ukraine as well because of the bad decisions this administration made so they haven't done anything right so we shouldn't be surprised when we're concerned about statements he's mag and how he's handling this terrible situation in ukraine. look, we've got to continue to give weapons continue to help with humanitarian aid, but we then we have to be real careful about anything else that particularly anyone i think in high level of our government and certainly the white house anything they say better be careful and precise better be well thought out. j i want to continue to support the ukraine people but i worry that some of the comments that were made on the -- world stage may have escalated this conflict and i think every american that is watching this at home is asking those same questions -- congressman thanks so much for joining us on cross country tonight. >> you bet, thank you. >> so doctor -- just return from a medical mission in lviv and she joins me

right now doctor thank you so much for we have relied on you during koafdz and relied on you for your coverage there in ukraine. what did you see? >> you know i thought i had seen everything lacerations gunshot wounds but nothing compares to ground first hand in lviv. it was absolutely who are risk. horrific you have families torn apart we have homes pulverized 10 million misplace from the their home that's more than 25.of the population there in ukraine. and a third of them have medical conditions, chronic medical conditions so if people dying firsthand from being shot at from the bomb and strikes but then you have a wave of secondary deaths for beam chronic conditions that can't get the health care they need. so we were out there we were trying to give them as much care and take care of them as best as we can but it was the challenge. because every day health care workers volunteers are being attacked. and even though that's a

violation of international humanitarian law, putin doesn't care. he will kill and attack anyone. because he's a vile vicious murderer. and that's one of the greatest concerns is humanitarian aid and effort getting into lviv getting into kyiv and places mariupol but it is dangerous becoming more and more risky we saw in lviv two or three bomb strike when is i was there last week we had one and maybe thought this was it but every place in ukraine is being more and more dangerous and it is -- it's sad. it is a challenge we need to do more help to them. lawrence: been putting up images on screen when you were back there. doctor i want to hone in on something because some of the propaganda from putin has suggested that in those medical facilities inside those -- those bunkers for just people that are taking safety, are being used as human shields. you were there. separate fact from fiction so our audience knows that. >> i'm working at a railway in lviv with hundreds and hundred of ukrainians coming off the

train and we're aboveground. and we're trying to take care of patients but if alarms go off if sirens go off we try to go underground to take shelter and bring patients with us. it is risky even if you're underground shelter you see the children theater that was bombed probably two or 300 people that lost their lives in that because th were stuck underneath rubble. so no we're not just taking shelter ukrainians are trying to get food, shelter an flee danger and death and destruction but it is hard for them for some of them to leave. but you know everyone is out there trying to do best they can but it is really a challenge. >> doc i know you don't want to make the story about you and you went help to those in need but was there any point during your trip where you felt like this is it? i may not mac it back local to the states? >> when i was sleeping in my sleeping -- bunk bed cot that we had i heard the alarms going off at first i said what is that noise and it was surreal i said --

oh, my goodness are we going to be able to get out of here and is it going to be dangerous because we have to drive hours to get to the border and i was concerned, worried i have family that worked to get back to the united states but at the same time we want to help those in need. it is our duty to serve help to others in need. so yeah, there were moments we were scared but we prayed and we did best we can, we had shelter underground but you know, at this point it is becoming too dangerous i think for everyone going in and out of ukraine. >> you know, doc we're so glad you made it back we're so glad that you went there for the people of ukraine that are in need. but we're so glad to have you back home we thank you so much for coming on the show tonight. up next gas prices -- are high -- inflation is soaring. but at least one business executive wants to pay americans less. that story ahead plus changing their tune about securing our border? that's all ahead on cross country. you don't want to miss it.

there's another loon that's not getting a lot of press but very important because i'm a champion of small business and ma and pa business he says further more other competitor especially ma and pa company and smaller companies raise prices cut employee hours and pay -- employees less hourly and that's going to hurt their margin and that's getting hurt in this small -- income household middle income households and small businesses those ma and pa businesses he's talking about taking advantage of. he knows that these high not just high gas prices but record high food inflation is crushing these folks and so here you have someone with, you know, they have 50 franchises. you're not a small business. so he's looking to crush the competition. and to take advantage of workers at the same time. glans lawrence: unbelievable and the questions posed to the folks has biden administration made economy better or worse? 53.of americans are saying that

the biden administration is making it worse for them. only it 22% i don't know who they are -- said it was better. what's your reaction to that, charles? >> you know, i think that right smart reaction to be honest with you. you know, yesterday we had over a report from the -- university of michigan and this was amazing because they're between them and conference board most trusted confidence of readings every month been doing it for decades. what was shocking about it is that people said that this is a lower -- standard of live has gone down more than any other time except two of the worst recessions in last 50 years and that's something important to remember lawrence because in america we all expect our standard of living to increase. even if you're in lower income bracket you expect during your lifetime even if i'm at the lowest it is going to get better. right i'll be able to maybe build a platform and children will move higher it is rare when

>> with the ongoing conflict raging in ukraine we're familiarly focused on destructive cyberthreat posessed by russian intelligence services, most cyberattacks don't just happen in an instant. there's activity that leads up to it. lawrence: obviously russia will attack companies but toit get specific. what do you think the number one targets are? is there a potential of them taking or shedding down my debit card or credit card? >> the financial sector is still a major risk we're concerned with. when we look at the three major categories of what we would expect for retaliation from russia it is going to be logistic supply chain so think about ups and fedex and handle inport and vulnerable. you know based on backup and everything we've been having an with major issues,

manufacturing, financial and critical infrastructure some of the key areas that we're most concerned with right now. and there's absolutely the potential for targeting massive finance institutions we think that will be a major retaliation due to the swift sanctions that we saw happen in the united states and our western allies. so it is one of the things that we're extremely cautious right now and seeing heightened elevation from russia doing more of the reconnaissance fazes to see who we can target and attack and precursor to major attacks that we saw from russia. lawrence: how are we doing i understand our defensive posture but what about us going on offense to attack ash russia even more? >> russia has been actually trying to cut as much access as possible to the public internet, in fact, they have a mandate as of last month to where all businesses have to sees existence on public internet that would be nonrussian assets so they're trying to create a laingt of a gap there to provide some sort of level. but we have a number of

about. we are in very, very serious threat zone right now. now, i want to be clear with the american people that putin has not called on nuclear weapons used on the united states. but the threat of putin uses nuclear weapons in ukraine remains high. especially now that president biden called out for regime change and maybe intentionally he has triggered a requirement according to the russian doctrine when the environment of the russian state is at stake they can use nuclear weapons to deescalate conflict. >> white house walked that back. but, obviously, common fusing for american people when you're on the world stage want commander in chief to have a definitive answer not having the press secretary put out some statement. so i have to ask you this

rebecca when you talk about what's happening right now. what's happening internally you know putin and you know people that surrounds him you know his mind per se. so tell me, who wants that spot who -- is the person that is in his inner orbit say well he may have gone too far on this. i would like to be the prime and be the president of russia -- >> so right now i don't see anyone really who is in a position and would even be vying for that spot. remember lawrence, putin is a brutal cold, blooded killer. if you will -- he has authorized assassinations poisoning of his opponents. look at what he's doing in ukraine. he's terrorizing not only the ukrainian people and the rest of the world by threatening new clear weapons used by also the russian people. and so -- it is just simply not viable at

this time. so somebody to step up and take his place and so -- president biden needs to be a little bit more judicious when he calls hem a criminal. yes putin deserves to burn in hell to question. but president biden has responsibility to keep america safe and not say something god forbid do something that the russians are going to interpret as offensive instead of defensive and unleash a preemptive strike that will escalate into the round that we can't con age that's danger of it even though putin is not threatening the united states right now. the homeland, but any serious strategist knows, once nuclear strikes start flying -- it is impossible to deescalate. lawrence: matter here and this will spin out of control. if we don't have a definitive answers from the president of the united states, need to stay

to allow criminals back on the street? >> well it is a combination there's no question we're in a crisis with crime and violent crime and across the country but we have radical prosecutors with other states and in california we have gascón and we have attorney general, who all want to go soft on crime and we're in a position now that we need real prosecutors there's a reason why there's recalls going on to get these people out and fact is that we need prosecutors that know what they're doing have experience that's why i'm running for attorney general here in california but we have to be willing to hold people accountable and quit trying to dismantle system from within. because that's what is whatting right now across this country and i think californians and americans are starting to wake up because they're scared they're scared of the consequences of these reckless policies really and reckless prosecutors. >> you keep hearing about recall efforts but they always die you

stay recall and the voters choose to keep these people in office. but i go out on streets and i talk to democrat, republicans none of them like this. >> well nobody accounts violent crime people want to feel safe. but you know, there's two recalls going on here in california. the san francisco one is already qualified for ballot that will happen in june. and there's a very big ground swell to get him out of office same is true for los angeles where they're in process of collecting signatures listen. we're in the worst time for half of our lives in many, many years and we all have to realize as citizens we deserve to feel safe and these prosecutors and policies are not doing that. >> ann marie can you break it down for our audience because i've had deputy d.a. in california, los angeles, and so often i'm asked about audience why can't these deputy d.a.'s just do that i think jour and why is it the boss and elected official that gets to make the

final say so -- when they're in the courtroom trying these cases? >> well, for instance, in san francisco the prosecutors are not members of the union so they can't sue their boss like they did in los angeles so it is fear these blanket policies you don't do what your boss tells you to do you can get fired that's very concerning same true in los angeles where they're adopt these blanket policies for instance, like that tub case where that serial sex offender was tried as a juvenile so it is very concerning but that's across the country is reckless prosecutors adopting blanket policies that are really -- causing nothing but havoc. lawrence: yeah. ann marie i'm an advocate for equal justice on the law. i don't any american civil liberties being violated. but i don't like kids being torture or shots or elderly being abused and i don't like criminals just roaming the

depression gnat districts created from illegals crossing that border in my opinion this is a political move by joe biden. >> the president made this argument because he knows compassion of the american people. he knows how they feel about ukrainian people because ukrainian people are fighting for their country we haven't seen anything like this in a while. and so -- how do you feel about him making the same comparison these are literally women and children coming across the border right, and they have a legal right to do so. that's not what's happen on southern border, congressman. >> no, it's not overwhelming majority of people crossing that border are men. what we have in ukraine and as you said are women and children crossing border men and many women are staying back. and fighting -- and that's why the world is supporting ukraine right now. the ukrainians are fighting for their freedom they have a love of their country. and they i think the overwhelming marmingt of people who have who have fled poland

are beginning to come back to ukraine once the ukrainians hopefully -- win they defeat russia. so totally different scenario than what's gong on southern border it is disappointing that joe biden would even compare that two because you can't compare it is not comparing apples to apples. >> dig deeper congressman what do you do when you guys get back power? because a lot of folks were upset with the republicans as well -- part of the reason joe biden was tiebl undue this is because the president back then president trump had do a lot of this for executive order what what are republicans going to do when you get back control? trying to get that under construction and this is something that congress appropriated funds for and made its way through the proper channels. but then -- the first thing joe biden does on day one is sign the executive order halting construction of the border wall. if you talk to any of the border patrol agents -- >> sorry congressman --
