russia says first stage of its invasion of ukraine is complete afl this as president biden visits poland in first european trip since war began with the ukraine people saying russia's putin cannot remain in power and white house later walking back those remarks insisting the u.s. has not seek regime change in russia. meanwhile volodymr zelenskyy remains defiant as he says more than 16,000 russian troops have been killed so far in ukraine. as russia's full scale invasion enters its second month, right now ukrainian forces are engaged in fighting in the strategic city in southern ukraine and one of the first cities to fall to russian forces but in astonishing turn of events troops have now gun to retake half of that city.
8:02 pm
now, the u.k. defense ministry says russia may need to call and reserve in war to bolster forces after sustaining heavy losses over the past four weeks. while u.n. numbers show 3.7 million refugees fled ukraine, most going into neighboring countries of poland hungary and czech republic, but we start tonight with a latest from lviv and our jonathon hunt rorging there on the ground. jonathon a very scary day there in lviv. how are you doing? >> yeah we're doing just fine, thank you anita. it was a day where we began to hear a lot of air sirens just about 12 hours ago now sunday morning, just after 6 a.m. here in lviv so back 12 hours ago we started hearing sirens. we could hear jets in the air. we were not sure if they were angting defensively or if they were the jets that fired missiles but either way, several
