do you have another minute? >> i think it was hopeful to be able to see this legislation finally pass. >> wait a second, is he at the gift shop? is that shannon brean's book behind, he wantos camera. don't forget freedom matters gear. >> todd: dire warning from ukrainian that ammo could explode at the chernobyl nuclear site. they are demanding russia withdraw its troops. workers say invaders kicked up radioactive dust on their way in that is likely to kill them. you are watching "fox and friends first," i'm todd piro. >> carley: i'm carley shimkus. washington being asked to fix another comment from the

president. mark meridith has details. griff jenkins is live on the ground in lviv. >> griff: good morning, carley and todd. dire warning from chernobyl coming from ukraine's prime minister, she wants the un to demand demilitarization around chernobyl as the un's nuclear watchdog has a mission on the ground in ukraine at this hour. concern about places like chernobyl, as well as depresia in the southern region as the fighting is now entering the fifth week with just a glimmer of hope that there could be progress the negotiations, but as far as the notion russia will reduce their assault in the can i have kyiv area, nobody is
1:02 am
buying it. president zelenskyy urging caution about that saying he's not dropping his defenses any time soon and white house communication director kate bedingfield saying nobody should be fooled this is a pullback by any means and john kirby warning about a new threat that could evolve against the capital. >> nobody should be fooling ourselves by the kremlin's claim it will reduce military attacks near kyiv or any reports it will withdraw all its forces. we should all be prepared to watch for major offensive against other areas of ukraine. it does not mean the threat to kyiv is over. >> griff: meanwhile, the no signs of peace in the southern region of mykolaiv. you can see they are being hammered. a rocket hitting regional government administration
1:03 am
building, reportedly killing 12 and injuries 33 others. another rocket landing near a playground and apartment complex shattering windows and buildings. as far as the fight back, the counter offensive is gaining steam, as well. we're hearing north of kyiv, there is a lot of ground being taken back as well as out to the east, ukrainian forces pushing back territories there, meanwhile, russian media reporting they had to evacuate two border towns due to ukraine firing missiles into russian territory. that is significant, first we've seen of ukraine taking the fight to motherland russia. remember that ukrainian soldier who told a russian warship where to go? ukraine officials awarding that
1:04 am
soldier a medal of merit for his honor and bravery. todd and carley. >> carley: it was amazing to see who he was and put a face that to incredible story. i want to ask about that missile that struck military base inside russia. this is first time we're hearing of something like this and regional governor said no casualties are reported, but four russian soldiers were injured upon. this is coming from russian state, so it has to be confirmed to believe it is true f. confirmed, could we see more of this? this is first time we've heard of ukraine going on the offense in this capacity. >> griff: that's a great question and you rightly point out, we have no confirmation this happened. earlier overnight, i interviewed a member of the ukrainian parliament who said we're seeing stages of counter offensives
1:05 am
that began with just being able to withstand the initial invasion to taking areas back. he could not confirm the strikes into the belgrade, russia area where russia media reported they had to evacuate the border town. if that happened, it is the third stage of offensive, giving strength in what is now day 35 of fighting as the ukraines try to gain more and more ground. >> todd: griff jenkins live in lviv, thank you. we will bring in a ukrainian member of parliament, who is nine months pregnant, she is also in austin, texas. your journey through washington, d.c. is fascinating. how did you get here? >> good morning, everybody. well, i accidentally came a
1:06 am
week, 10 days before the war started and the first day of war, i was standing in texas, in austin at the rally and i realized i have to be now in washington lobbying and asking for help for my country to put give us more support and arm, stronger sanctions against russia. i took first flight to dc and stay there until my nine months, last moment i could go back to texas. >> carley: we are hearing yesterday's peace talks, is that true, if so, layout your terms. >> our terms are the same, we need our territories and our people back. aleksandra ustinova. they have to go into sxourt they
1:07 am
have to be face responsibility for everything that has been done to ukraine. so far we see negotiations are moving, we see russians are pulling out troops from kyiv and other regions in ukraine. to be honest, they were surrounded there. this is way for putin to keep his faith and get the troops out not to be totally destroyed. they were encircled by the ukrainian army already. now he needs a break, take his army out, not to get additional 17,000 soldiers dead as he already have. it is convenient to hold peace talks and negotiations now and we need to get our people from occupied city, mariupol, we have 100,000 people hiding there in bomb shelters in the basement, some of the people, children.
1:08 am
2000 children were moved and we cannot calculate the exact number of children moved to russia and how to get them back. we are holding negotiations to get something out of it, a partial cease-fire. we'll see how it goes. >> todd: when do you thank you war end? >> unfortunately, this war can end only when ukraine gets everything we have lost within the last eight years before. let's be honest, in 2014, when putin invaded ukraine, we had no intention for nato. nothing about nato. european integration or when i keep hearing now it was about demilitarization or we have to refuse to go to back nato, it was not on the table whe when p partially invited ukraine.
1:09 am
for us, this is survival of our in the world.ght for democracy we will fight until the last town or village to go back to the ukrainian territory and we need reparations. it is billions of dollars the losses that ukraine has already has is billions of dollars. you know probably more than 10 million of ukrainians, which is one-fourth of the population, every fourth ukrainian was forced to move out of their home. i can give you my own example, my staffer, a very good friend of mine issue has no place to live now, she lived in suburb of kyiv, she is help and volunteering in the eastern area, which was shelled already. she has no place to go and come back and thousands and millions of people have no home to come back. we need houses, we need reparations and need rubbing to pay back for every loss and

damage done to our country. >> todd: thank you for your time and best of luck with your baby about to be born any day now. thank you very much. today an american -- returning to earth onboard a russian space capsule. he is set to land in kazakhstan with two russian cosnauts, this as tensions rise between russia and the u.s. over invasion of ukraine by vladamir putin. there was a video that suggested he would be left behind in space, russia denying that speculation and nasa reiterating operations would continue as normal. >> carley: -- trying to clean up his comments overseas with yet another gaffe at home, if you can believe it. >> todd: the president seemed to
1:11 am
reveal the u.s. is training troops. >> never a dull moment. the biden administration says it is sending weapons into ukraine on daily basis and the administration trying to clean up remarks the president made after he suggested on monday that u.s. troops are training ukrainian forces in poland. pentagon officials are characterizing these efforts as liaisons. some lawmakers and reporters are jumping all over this, asking if the commander-in-chief let something slip. >> apologize, we didn't have the sound byte. the white house asked if this slipped. they said no, this is routine interaction and more liaison as
1:12 am
opposed to training. bipartisan group of senators are sending letterss to jake sullivan demanding. the u.s. mission to ukraine must go beyond ensuring the country has means to defend itself against russian aggression to counter advance. ukraine can win this fight if we help them win this fight. lawmakers in the house and senate will get a better idea where things stand with the war and looking to see if lawmakers have new reaction after they learn what is happening on the ground in kyiv and beyond. >> carley: mark meridith. thank you. remember when president biden said this weeks before his inauguration last year. >> president biden: you heard me say in different context, the words of a president matter.
1:13 am
>> todd: republican congressman james coshg dlt /* /* -- coshgmerjoins us. it is a daily gaff-a-thon. how long can the country withstand the now daily gaffe from the president? >> it is taking a toll on foreign policy. these gaffes put american at risk. he accidently detailed classified information. this puts americans at risk, american troop necessary poland and with cyber attacks. i worry this emboldens the deep state to make decisions without consult withing joe biden.
1:14 am
many in congress are concerned about who makes important decisions on day-to-day basis in the biden administration and this puts that at risk. this is something the president will continue to do. i know that everyone in the administration tried to encourage him to speak just from the teleprompter, he continues to put americans at risk. >> carley: you mention the teleprompter, this picture went viral that showed he was reading off note cards when responding to reporter questions and he said why he called for vladamir putin to step down, he said exactly what the note cards said, listen to this moment. >> president biden: i want to make it clear, i wasn't then nor am i now expressing policy change. >> you do feel vladamir putin should removed from power, is that what you are say something >> i was expressing what i said, moral outrage i felt toward that
1:15 am
man, not articulating policy change. >> carley: i know you are not the press secretary, you are in washington, is it common for a president to read off notecards? >> it is a problem, this is something we've had concerns about from day one, his competency level, the fact he continues to make gaffes is one thing. if you detail classified information, it is a big problem. i know his communication team is trying to solve this problem. but the fact we have a problem is a problem. joe bidenville to go back to a lot of what he did in the campaign and make limited appearances. this putss america at a shaky position on the world stage especially at time of major conflict, not just in ukraine, in taiwan and iran, and
1:16 am
it is very unfortunate. >> carley: i want to ask about the latest situation the president got into, where he said the u.s. is training ukrainian troops in poland. there is a question on whether or not that was classified information. do you think it was and if so, could that put our troops and national security at risk? >> it was classified. this is something we're not supposed to do, something i think that the ukrainians are expecting, the world is expecting. we have the best trained military in the world. russia is an enemy. ukraine is being slaughtered now through no fault of their own. the fact joe biden said this put american troops at risk. russia probably knows where the troops are being trained now. this gives russia propaganda to motivate their troops, who are facing low moral and puts our
1:17 am
american troops at risk of retaliation from russian missiles and spys and attacks. >> todd: it is frightening. an investigation by house republicans, including yourself, revealing joe biden cdc bypassed official guidance on the reopening of schools. is there any reason other than the money joe biden would choose the union over our kid? >> no, no reason at all. i don't have a problem with union advocating for better pay and working conditions for teachers. when this comes at the expense of our children, that is unacceptable. this is joe biden ark bandoning the science in the form of trying to receive political donation from base of his, teachers union. unacceptable. >> carley: thank you for doing that investigation and hopping on with us, we got to leave it there, thank you so much.
1:18 am
>> todd: three -- high-speed chase that stretched across the city. officers tried to pull a car over and it took off. police say the suspects inside the car opened fire on police, all three officers who are hit are expected to recover. two suspects were arrested once the pursuit ended. >> carley: contents of hunter biden entered into the congressional record. matt gates requested the move after the fbi cyber division assistant director admitted he had no idea what the agency did with the laptop or where it is. chuck grassley and ron johnson put forward a receipt shows what they say is evidence hunter used joe biden's position to enrich himself. >> topic of this poster shows $100,000 from what is effectively an arm of the

communist chinese government direct to hunter biden. >> carley: they say the payment was made in 2017 to hunter biden's firm. florida governor ron desantis hitting back against attacks from gavin newsom about covid leadership and progressive ideology. >> first i would say how many people are moving from his state flee to mine for freedom vice versa, i guarantee we win in migration. people are leaving california in numbers i've never seen because of failed policies. >> carley: explosive data obtained shows republican voters in florida outnumber democrats by 100,000 for the first time in state history. >> todd: you could say -- will smith's oscar is on the line after he slipped chris rock for making a joke about his wife's head.
1:20 am
jada smith breaks her silence, this is season for healing and i'm here for it. and actor jim carey tearing into the crowd over the infamous slap. listen to this. >> i was sickened by the standing ovation, hollywood is spineless on mass and it just really felt like this is a really clear indication that we're not the cool club anymore. >> todd: carey said he would have sued smith for $200 million. there you have it from ace ventura. two weeks ago, we spoke to this mother. >> it makes me angry, he didn't did anything wrong, he was trying to live a life with his wife there and help others with his teaching skills. >> todd: now tyler is free and reunited with his wife and
1:21 am
daughter and will join us for an exclusive interview to talk about his 10 days in custody. >> carley: and brandon judd will talk about the migranting crossing the border and tomi lahren coming up on this busy wednesday morning. stay asleep longer, and wake up refreshed. the brand i trust is qunol. why do nearly one million businesses choose stamps.com to mail and ship? no more trips to the post office no more paying full price for postage and great rates from usps and ups

>> carley: the u.s. is nearing an alarming milestone. border officials predict we are hitting -- in six months. >> todd: expected to ramp up more with title 42 rule expiring today. marianne rafferty has the latest. >> marianne: agents bracing for a large surge of migrants. 170,000 are waiting on the mexican side for title 42 to be dropped. once that is dropped, illegal crossings are expected to push past the million mark since the fiscal year began last october. >> probably in next two or three days we will hit over million along the southwest border. >> marianne: that does not include got-aways that slip

through custom and border patrol without getting cost. a group of lawmakers sounding the alarm in a letter to homeland secretary director mayorkis. it reads in part, we strongly urge dhs retain title 42 to ensure federal government facilities and local communities will not be overwhelmed by sudden increase in immigrant apprehension and the administration has plans to require vaccination for migrants, saying there is plenty on hand to give the jab. >> why give out vacs to undocumented migrants. >> we have vaccines we need and will ensure we have what we need as we move forward.

>> marianne: texas senator cornyn expected to hold a meeting on the border crisis. back to you. >> todd: next guest is feeling impact of the border crisis, even though she lives 4000 miles from the border. a alaska mother sharing her story. that mom joins us along with executive director of alaska drug trafficking coalition. thanks for being here. sandy, what happened to your son? >> hi, thanks for having us on. my son died of a fentanyl overdose in 2021. he was in recovery and he apparently had a relapse that day and so many young people that are in recovery do relapse, it is part of long-term recovery and he got 100% fentanyl that

day, after leaving my house on a bike ride and he never game home. >> todd: our condolences for your loss, sandy. alaska is not very close to mexico, how is it happening there? >> it is the same as anywhere else in the country. enters alaska by parcel. >> todd: what needs to be done to prevent this traj ed that he happened to your son from happening to another? >> i'm not working with the biden administration, i'm working with the alaska state, alaska, u.s. senators murkowski to provide education in addiction. >> todd: how is that go something >> hopefully ki say more about that in the next week or so.
1:30 am
>> todd: understood. mike, this graphic is astounding. 2008 nine fentanyl involved cases in alaska, look three years later, 141 deaths involving synthetic opioids. how much higher do you worry that number will go this year in 2022? >> i don't want to hazard to guess. that is 141 fentanyl deaths, i believe overall, 247 or 248. we're getting hit pretty hard for a state with a small population. i can't see it going -- >> todd: sandy, you are honoring your son's memory by being here, sharing his story and fighting so another mom doesn't have to go through this. we appreciate your time. thank you very much. >> thank you. >> todd: words like boy and girl now considered offensive at

representation >> in our stories, we don't have enough leads. >> carley: disney executive producer admitting she's pushing a "not at all secret gay agenda" and members of mainstream media are vocal critics of florida new parental rights law, but governor ron desantis standing bypass it. >> about provide prog tekz so they know they can send young kids to school without them being sexualized. without them telling a young girl she may really be a boy and if schools try to impact sxhelth well being of kids and undertaking certain services, parents have a right to content to it. for a company like disney to say that they, this bill should have never passed, they don't run this state, they will never run this state as long as i'm

governor. >> carley: important to point out disney is california-based company vowing to overturn law passed by florida. is that a monday morning detail? >> todd: they should focus on paying customers, without paying customers, have you no disney. with that msnbc reporter wants to know why approval ratings are not higher. >> biden's approval rating falls to lowest level. but let's add context to the fears, lite bring in some facts. united states is sending billions in military and economic support to ukraine and there is every indication economic sanctions are strangling the russian economy and inflation at home is a big problem, jobless rates are lowest they have been in 50 years. why isn't he reaping the benefits in the polls? these are big wins. >> carley: ashley ryan is
1:39 am
joining us, how the "new york times" is misreporting distortion and fabrication, altered history. ashley, good morning. what she is saying is the american people are wrong in how they feel about the president and their wallet and how they are doing financially. what is your response to that? >> i think that's a tro pe we have been seeing, first there was no inflation. then when it is clear there is inflation, it is a good thing or something we should ignore and get on with our lives and buy electric cars, they are grasping at straws to find any message that will land with voters and audiences in favor of the biden administration and contradicts reality and that is what we know to be the case. >> todd: this is part of the big picture strategy to boost up

democrats with november around the corner. they are scared and trying everything they can. let's get to will smith, that is what all of america is talking about, three days later. will smith's fate will be decided today at a meeting where the actor may lose his oscar and be kicked out of the academy like harvey weinstein and bill cosby. what will happen to will? >> we are seeing it already, saying we shouldn't be defending this idea we can't be thin-skinned. she said "new york times" is standing behind the idea that it is okay to be thin skinned, this is contradicting everything the media told us about violence. should not be violence in places like academy award, but when one of their favorite sons commits
1:41 am
violence in full view of the world, it is rules have changed. it is shifting goal post, changing rules, double standard for the media when it involves one of their own. i think people are tired of it actually. >> carley: so much reaction coming in on this slap and the whole oscar situation and what is going to come of it. who is wrong and who is right. one opinion piece titled chris rock's joke about jada pinkett smith was rooted in racism and male patriarchy. you have to wonder what chris rock's reaction would be if he knew he was being accused of racism. >> i hope chris rock will work that into his next routine, it is laughable to think a black man is committing an act of racism against another black man. this is another trope we've seen, if black men are on the
1:42 am
wrong side of a political issue, they are suddenly white supremacist, we saw that in california and we're seeing it, people being casually throwing out the term white supremacist and applies it to black men. it is outrageous, we continue is difficult, but the media continues to double down. >> todd: jada pinkett smith, this is a season for healing and i'm here for it. you know, ashley, when carley showed me this article she talked to you yesterday, you heard the phrase, throw your hangeds up. i threw my hands up. this is monday morning quarterbacking rationalization for things that are obvious and in our face. >> i think we will not go much further and that is because audiences, news consumers issue voters have had enough. we've all realized the media jumped completely.
1:43 am
they are telling us the opposite of the truth and it is like political double speak we are being force fed and audiences are leaving, shutting off that news channel or newspaper, life-long leaders tell me on a weekly basis they have dropped their subscription, canceling that and same thing with new yorker. i'm not talking about conservatives, i'm talking about liberal people who have had enough with news outlets presenting a reality we know is false. >> oscar ratings, at peak 50 million and this year's was second lowest at 15. that is more than conservative ers leaving the oscars. thank you. we appreciate it. here is news not so sweet. easter is latest holiday be being hit by supply chain

federal mask mandate for air travel and public transportation, arguing the deal is outdated and not based on science. most americans get back to life, that guy, dr. fauci is warning covid restrictions could come back. >> i don't want to use the word lockdown, that has a charged element to it. if we do get variant giving us an uptick in hospitalizations, we should be flexible enough to pivot going back temporarily to more rigid restriction, such as requiring masks indoor. >> todd: raise your hand if you th accounts for half of u.s. cases. president biden's 5.8 trillion budget is the largest increase in climate spending and sets aside legal cost for illegal

sweetness out of this year's easter celebration. supplies and raw materials are forcing the price of candy, eggs, sura and ham to go through the roof. mark griffin is the president of the nr stores and mark, you are here with us now bringing us not so good news. how much more should people expect to pay this year if they are celebrating easter? >> oh, profile the cost side of the equation. best-selling spiral-sliced ham, up 13%. boneless ham up 17% and you mentioned eggs. eggs up 71%. >> carley: whoa. >> exacerbated in part by the bird flu outbreak. the easter basket will definitely cost more this year. >> carley: what about candy? are you seeing candy prices go up? >> yes, candy is a double-edged
1:52 am
sword. prices are going up, no doubt about that. there is supply shortages with regard to candy. we have 20% less candy assortment this year from last year. >> carley: feels like a perfect storm, we are reporting high gas prices and gas prices affect cost of things at your grocery store. >> beyond doubt. naturally everything in our stores are transported over the road incredible distances in some cases and yeah, the fuel prices are tremendous driver with regard to inflation. >> carley: are you seeing people shopping differently or less because of prices? >> absolutely. what we see the shopper doing is trading down. perhaps buying pork instead of
1:53 am
beef, buying pasta based meals instead of more expensive meals, not buying as much seafood, when has soared in cost. definitely seeing a change. consumer is more budget-conscious this year than last. >> carley: the other thing is what they call shrink-flation. you buy a bag of candy, looks like the price is the same, when you open it up, it is like half of what you are used to getting. i'm sure that is something you experience when you are unpacking boxes and putting them on store shelves. have you been noticing that, as well? >> beyond a doubt. one of the major branded cooking oils recently ark noungsed the 48-ounce bottle will now be 40

ounces, definitely seeing that trend. >> carley: i'm sure families want a nice easter celebration, what tips on what they can do or are they out of luck? >> i would say watch the sales because those numbers that i spoke of regarding eggs and ham, there is no certainty that we'll pass that on to the consumer. that is our cost. i suggest consumer watch sales carefully as they plan easter celebration and might find their budget will cover their needs. >> carley: mark griffin president of b&r stores, thank you for joining us, we appreciate it. >> thank you, carley. >> carley: congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez says her party wants to keep their majority this november, they need to be more like her and other members of the progressive
