ukrainian forces patrolling the newly liberal suburbs of kyiv and fighting more russian atrocities left behind. missile strikes on oil refinery in fuel storage facilities in the ukrainian port city of odessa. welcome to fox news live. i am mike emanuel. we have coverage near the ukraine border in poland. let's start things off with griff jenkins live in lviv ukraine. good morning, griff. >> good afternoon.

the true human toll of this war starting to be seen and though suburbs of the capital love kyiv russian atrocities and allege war crimes being committed as these troops are being treated. we will show you images that are quite disturbing. these are bodies of civilians, men, women, children, the elderly lying in the streets of this town. some with their hands bound behind their backs. there are reports of women being raped and pets being shot at will. one of the residents describing the horrors. listen. >> those people just walking and they shot them without any reason. it was even worse. they would shoot without asking any questions. >> meanwhile, ukraine's foreign minister tweeting this. proving that russian hatred is beyond anything europe has seen

since world war ii. the only way to stop this is help ukraine get russians out as soon as possible. tanks, combat aircraft, heavy air systems, provide them now. in the east, and in the south heavy shelling and fighting continues as they headed to the six week of this invasion. mike. mike: what more can you tell us about the attack on the port city of odessa? >> this is a significant development. we will show you the latest video of the strike. literally heading a oil refinery odesa is on the western edge of the southern waxy access of the southern ukraine. on the far eastern side, the southern seaport that is been hammered from the beginning,. the intention to seal off access to the black sea.

going from the east to the far west side and odesa. perhaps we are seeing signs of what he intends to deal in the coming days and weeks. mike. mike: griff, i am wondering, any ukrainians you may have come in contact with at all, what their level of morale is at this point. this is been grinding on for some time now. >> that is a great question. what i have found here on the ground this week, mike, this country is unified in ways it's never been. united in a way it has never been. they are seeing these counteroffensive and the kyiv region where they are driving russians out. even in the east driving forces out of the northern top of that

region. if anything, their well is getting stronger. as you mentioned, it's getting tougher to withstand things. the entire country, mike, is out more. >> he reported very well about the fighting. is it pretty quiet in lviv? >> very quiet. the residents here continue to go about their lives. walking their dogs, going shopping, walking around to the coffee shops. there are many great ones here. as we know from the strike that happened a week ago saturday, this country could be hit anywhere at any time. that is why when it is safer on this edge, it truly is not safe and we know it. >> many thanks. >> 4 million refugees have fled ukraine. where did they go after their escape? alexis mcadams has the details

in poland. hello, alexis. >> good afternoon. more than 2 million ukrainian refugees have made their way to poland. thousands continue by the day. they do not know the language here in poland, they did not know where to turn. that is why some families are opening their hearts in their homes to those people. take a look at this video shot near the ukrainian border. a family of six from ukraine staying with a local family here in southeastern poland. the homeowner is a polish business owner tells us he gave his family a place to live, food and clothing offer free. ukrainian refugees say they traveled with just a few bags. grateful for the support of the polish people who have stepped up in a major time of crisis. listen. for the life of our kids when we were in our summerhouse. also we heard shelling. none of us slept this night. [speaking in native tongue] there were planes flying over. not sure if these were hours or the enemies. >> in countries bordering ukraine, refugees stay in reception centers if they cannot stay with friends or relatives. they are given food, medical care and information about where they can travel to. also granting ukrainians to flee the war the right to stay and work for up to three years. they can also receive social welfare, medical treatment. they are focused on these families from ukraine who have been through unimaginable trauma

make it better at the moment. if you want to, you can do something for ukraine. we are trying to help them to just have a little better time. >> more than 2 million ukrainian refugees here in poland and counting. thousands coming end by the day. warsaw, one of the biggest cities, they are breached their capacity. how many more refugees from ukraine can poland handle. their infrastructure was not made for this. their schools will be overwhelmed, their hospitals overwhelmed. they are doing the best they can with their supply chain at this time. mike. mike: are you getting a warm feeling, though, from the reaction of a lot of these average polish people taking in these ukrainians and welcoming them with open arms?

>> yeah. i think the people here in poland have really stepped up. i have never seen anything like it. they are opening up their homes and giving out as much resources as they can. they are working, too, around the clock at and they have to save for their own families and food and supplies. they are finding ways to also help ukrainian refugees. poland asking that other countries in the eu also step up. we have talked with some american companies that are stepping up as well donating lots of supplies. so they can help ukrainian seer. back to you. >> a dark spot among -- a bright spot among the darkness. a response to russian forces retreating from ukraine's capital city. good afternoon. >> the president and his national security team closely following news that russia may be retreating in some areas of

ukraine. especially the capital of kyiv and some of those northern suburbs. there is also talk that white house officials are watching closely about a possible in person meeting with russian president putin and ukrainian president zelensky to talk about a path forward to possibly ease some tensions. if that happens we still do not know where president biden would fall in place or how he would even get involved in such a negotiation. >> we do everything that we can to support the ukrainians, to put pressure on russia to strengthen our own defenses. that will strengthen ukraine's hand at the negotiation table. >> the pentagon still sending an additional $300 million in security assistance to ukraine since the president took the oath of office last year. $2.3 billion has gone in total to the war-torn country which is

expected to rise as we continue to go further if russia -- they are working to get those tanks, soviet era takes to ukraine as soon as possible. >> we will continue to help ukraine defendants. as long as we can and as fast as we can. >> the president heading back to the white house tomorrow. the white house said this last week, they believe from the white house -- president putin is not getting the best information. how his military in many cases this failing at something this white house continues to watch. >> david, many thanks. >> troops are capturing territories revealing horrifying images of mass destruction left behind by the russians including

dead civilians and children lying in the streets. local officials say hundreds of residents there have been killed during a month-long occupation of russian forces. joining me live is a member of the ukrainian parliament. welcome. what is the latest you are seeing and hearing about fighting right now in your country? >> well, i was actually shocked with information. they were liberated by the ukrainian army. one thing i should tell you, don't trust russians. don't trust anything they say. we have joined the troops. ukrainian armies actually seeking the russian troops.

russians keep killing civilians. you have seen what they did in the cities. this kind of nightmare is going on all over the country. pretty much a number of regions where russian troops are presented. the scene that broke my heart was a call from my friends. in charge of the keefe region. she called me and said the reason i would need to provide food for children because almost all children were shot dead. this is a city next to kyiv. i cannot call these russians

people. they are animals. people do not behave like that. people do not torture other human beings. with russian troops, russian occupiers did, what we have seen, they did not just shoot people dead, they have tortured them. they have raped woman. they have even shot, what for? why do you shoot dogs? what do dogs due to the russian troops. i am shocked. i cannot share all of my emotions with you. another thing that i want to tell is, actually, well, i hope that it will dodge american politicians and they will stop playing the bureaucracy game. we already send ukraine, that is our military support.

jackson expected to pass through the senate judiciary committee and head to the senate floor tomorrow. rich edson joins me on said to bring us the very latest on this story. >> the senate judiciary committee will consider the nomination for the supreme court if the committee votes to advance her nomination. the full senate could vote to confirm her later this week. democrats control the senate and seem to have enough votes to elevate judge jackson. the first black woman to serve on the supreme court. republicans will largely oppose her. a record of judicial activism for liberal causes. >> she is certainly qualified. a great personality. a great colleague on the court. the judicial philosophy seems to be, not the philosophy of looking at what the law says and the constitution says. >> republicans have also attacked jackson over what they say is are flawed methodology and sentencing child pornography cases. the white house says republicans

are engaged in bad faith and her sentencing record is well within the mainstream. >> what i know what she will get enough votes to get confirmed. i suppose that is the only thing that matters. i wish more republicans would look at the case here. look at the record and the judge >> clearly assigns to the senate to examine the experience, qualifications and integrity of the nominee. not to assess whether they reflect the ideology of an individual senator or when ruling exactly as an individual senator would want. the white house is pushing others to vote for jackson. mitt romney. lisa murkowski the likeliest to join collins in supporting her.

marianne rafferty is tracking the latest developments from los angeles. hi, marion. >> six people were killed, 10 injured in the early morning hours. no suspects. gun fire erupted around 2:00 a.m. as large crowds had gathered. multiples crime scenes. broken glass and crime scene tape visible along streets. kathy lester calling for shooting complex and complicated >> a large group of investigators responding and they are just now beginning to conduct a preliminary investigation. this is a really tragic and unfortunate situation. >> it is unclear if victims were targeted or how many shooters may have been involved. investigators asking anyone with any information to come forward.

ukrainian troops have seized control of the kyiv region as russians retreat from the capital shifting their focus to the south and east of ukraine. joining me to discuss military movements in ukraine, deputy executive director colonel james he served in the united states air force for 31 years. colonel, it's great to have you. >> thanks for having me on today, mike. mike: these areas are where ukrainian think they are being

effective in fighting back to knockback the russians a bit. your thoughts on the intensity of the fighting in and around the ukrainian capital, sir. >> i just got off the phone with a colleague in the area. he said they are moving very quickly to get out of the area. the russians did not anticipate being in the fight that long and they have overextended their supply chain. without their supplies they are not an effective fighting force. they are pushing back to the border. >> a lot of evidence that the russian troops are focusing on the black seaports. a lot of talk about odesa. can you talk about the strategic significance of odesa there in the southeastern portion of ukraine? >> mike, the significant importance at this point with the invading forces is it would give them a black seaports. they are fighting right now to establish a land bridge.

all the way down to crimea so they can fight the ukrainian forces by moving over to odesa they can then create another entry and get further to the west in ukraine and get further to the rear or the flank of the ukrainian forces. it would create a problem for ukraine. i think that it is more of an exception to bring forces away and over to odesa so that the russians can conquer. the center of gravity come up from my perspective. >> i just popped up a map. the circles here are significant fighting in the past 24 hours. this has been a focus for a long time. it continues to be, colonel. are you surprised it's been that difficult for the russians to lock down. >> i'm not surprised it's been that difficult. they have shifted into a wartime economy. everyone is focused on driving the invaders out.

they underestimated the well. i think president putin thought he would be sitting in kyiv right now instead of sitting at the -- negotiating table. it will be substantially weaker. >> showing the audience right now, the images of some of the street scenes. coming to show some of the suburbs of kyiv. some significant fighting to the northeast. your thoughts on the ukrainian capital at this point. >> i truly think that ukrainians have seized the initiative. the russians are in your retreat they are trying to get out and trying to get to where they can get resupplied, get fresh troops >> you are a military man. your thoughts on what the united

send more to help though ukrainians in this fight. >> i think we should do everything we can to help them. we are getting dangerously close to world war iii. i think that that is what president biden is trying to keep us out of. he knows how dangerous that would be not just to our country but the world. trying to find ways to work with the allies, work with nato and get the ukrainian the tools and weapons they need. you have to give them credit. what they are doing with the limited tools that they have is amazing. beating back one of the best armies in the world and showing that vladimir putin has no army we should be scared of. these ukrainians are taking it to them. >> one other topic real fast. the hunter biden story has heated up. how do you assess the mainstream media outlets covering it now. >> shameful. it has been shameful. a scam artist. trading on his name for years. the media should have covered this prior to the election.

of volunteers in ukraine and the united states and across the world that have been working together since 2014 on programs that build a more prosperous ukraine. so, we have partnerships with established organizations that we have a network individual. we were able to quickly mobilize and respond to this latest invasion that we have been working with for years. >> what has been the response for people in your network and others inspired by ukrainians fighting to defend your country. >> the response has been tremendous. i want to thank everyone who has contributed time and money around the world to support the work of people in ukraine. we are seeing now that it is really people in ukraine holding the front line for all of us in the world on democracy. everyone is engaged in this effort in whatever way that they can.

just a tremendous response where people are doing what they know to deal. everyone can do one thing in your workplace and home and in the community. our friends and families in ukraine who are really showing us all what it means to defend sovereignty and defend the right to live without having shelves hitting you. >> sure. what role has your organization played here in washington and capitals across europe. >> we are speaking actively. people who are sending and we are grateful. calling for more aid, or supply, faster. if you look at it, ukraine is winning. people in ukraine are holding the line. they need to continue to do that and they need supply.
