evidence of horrific human rights violations by russian soldiers in ukraine. white house correspondent kevin corke has that story tonight . good evening. kevin griff, always good to be with you, my friend. russia, as you point out, has been suspended from the un human rights council. that resolution passing today ninety three twenty four with fifty eight abstentions. interestingly, some of the countries that voted against booting russia from the hrc belarus, china, iran, russia itself and syria i think this is also interesting as well. india actually abstained from the vote. now earlier this week, america's u.n. ambassador linda thomas greenfield introduced that proposal in the wake of accusations that russian troops tortured and killed ukrainian civilians in buka, a suburb near kyiv. >> we've seen credible reports of landmines and traps left behind by putin's forces to injure even more civilians after russia failed in its

objectives and withdrew. i shudder to think what we will find in other towns across ukraine. >> predictably, beijing rejects the notion, however, that moscow should be effectively shown the door and booted of the hrc despite all the evidence and quote lead a hasty move of the general assembly, which forces countries to choose sides will aggravate the division among member states and intensify the confrontation between the parties concerned. it is like adding fuel to the fire which is not conducive to the stability of conflict and even less so to advance in the peace talks. no surprise then that russian officials are calling the suspension an illegitimate and politically motivated step with the aim of demonstratively punishing a sovereign member state. back to you, griff kevin live for us in washington. kevin , thank you . and we are happy to report we have an update tonight about

at the southern border are underway right now. officials there are struggling to keep up with the current surge of apprehensions and now they're also training for a mass migration event they expect when title forty two is lifted. correspondent bill milligan reports tonight from mission texas. the texas national guard running drills in mission, texas today designed to simulate how they would respond to a mass migration event through the drills ordered by texas gov. greg abbott in preparation for the lifting of title 42 next month, hundreds of soldiers and heavy equipment all part of the drills which took place in other border hotspots as well. they're meant to prepare the state for whatever comes after may twenty third. that is when title 42 goes away and dhs projects the border could see up to 18000 illegal crossings every single day. all troopers and specially trained national guard will be equipped with riot gear in case

of potential caravan violence like what we have all seen occur in mexico as the caravans were making their way toward the united states and also in mission today, fox news embedded with texas dps troopers last night they tracked down and arrest illegal immigrants evading and hiding in the brush. it's a job meant for the federal government, a job texas says it now has to do itself. tomorrow i want to think going that way eventually 17 are arrested, all single adults. this a daily snapshot of texas operation lone star now in place for a year meant to search state resources to the border. this human smuggler arrested by texas dps today told us he was paid two hundred dollars per person. he says he crossed illegally with the migrants and was told by the cartel to pick up a waiting car while in del rio sector agents encountered this group of eight unaccompanied children all alone no parents, no guardians.
10:10 pm
>> and yesterday texas gov. greg abbott announced that texas would start busing illegal immigrants to washington, d.c. he said to quote, bring the border to the biden administration. he then later clarified that the migrants would have to voluntarily go to d.c. otherwise it would be kidnaping. white house press secretary jen psaki responded today calling it all quote a publicity stunt. all right. our thanks to bill milligan. thank you so much. more time now to tackle tonight's headline making political stories bringing back our dream team panel, former us attorney harry lippman and former senior health and human services official jack cafferty. gentlemen, welcome back. so let's talk immigration now. you heard what bill clinton was just reporting. i want to play a little bit more of what senator excuse me secretary america has said about the situation and where we are going trying to move forward knowing there's a surge there and they expect with a lifting of title 42 , there'll be an even bigger one . >> what distinguishes us from
10:11 pm
the past is the fact that we will not implement policies of cruelty that disregard our asylum laws. we are rebuilding a system that was entirely dismantled. but do you acknowledge you're likely going to see a surge? we very well could and our job is to be prepared to address it. harry, they know it's coming with the lifting of title forty two . we're having trouble managing what's are now totally you know, it's such it just seems like such a morass on and on . the thing about lifting title 42 is it has to do with, with virus candace owens it really don't apply anymore. so it's just what the law says on abitibi by the way, it is a publicity stunt. he has zero authority. it's a joke that he's trying just for political demagogery so he's out of it. but the federal government has to do its best and noticed there are a lot there's a real move now in congress, including some democrats to extend title 42 . but if it doesn't get extended,
10:12 pm
it's going to be quite a headache and a surge. i agree. okay, boston globe and opinion piece er talks about title forty two saying it will go down in american history as an unconscionable moral stain, a cruel ruse that was responsible for turning away non-citizens one point seven million times last year without due process title forty two utterly failed as a border management mechanism. data show that migrant encounters surged to a record high during the policy jack. there's a lot to unpack there and i'll give you a shot at it . so, so much to unpack. i mean this has been this has been on the books and at times implemented and it was implemented the you know, the former chief of staff of hhs has been on your show. brian harrison actually filed suit against hhs because they were barely enforcing it. and even with that, so many people were turned away. i mean, this is an unimaginable crisis that's about to hit something like one point five million have already crossed over .
10:13 pm
that's the size of and i was writing this down. that's the size of miami, st. louis, kansas city and durham, north carolina. and it's going to be far more than that without title forty two in place and with the welcome sign up. so i just can't believe that the dhs secretary mayorkas would seem almost blasé about this situation. i mean this is a crisis on top of a crisis and we always talk when we talk about this in the context of the fact that there are people who end up being, you know, dying in this process trying to come here, people who end up being trafficked, people who end up in terrible situations are human beings. but they are coming here believing that somehow they will be allowed to cross over and they're being trafficked by coyotes. and we know other things are flooding across the border too. how in the world do we get a hold on this? because when republicans are in charge or democrats are in charge of capitol hill, nobody seems to be able to move the ball on cleaning up this mess. it's totally true . it's a nightmare. i got to say my caucus isn't blasé. but again, it's a legal thing
10:14 pm
if you don't have the right to turn people away because of the virus, then you don't. but i 100% agree it's a nightmare morass and democrats and republicans have failed utterly to be able to solve it. it's because of course so many people want to come to this country, but it's just a terrible mess of a system. well, because they're human beings, we have to figure that out. i want to play something here from florida governor ronda santurce sounding like you've got some of these similar ideas that governor abbott does in texas. here's florida governor decided is dumping people which has dumped people they claim in two in the morning they haven't done it lately, but they did it many months ago. do we now have money where we reroute them to sanctuary states like delaware and we're going to do that . might be tough to hear that a little bit there. but he said we're going to reroute these people to sanctuary states that want to
10:15 pm
welcome these people and we're not going to have it here in florida. what to make of it? yeah, when i was at hhs, we had very close relationships with governors across the country and we would talk to them before folks were sent to different states. but i think you're seeing the frustration of these governors that are saying we've got to stop this and how would you like it if we decide to send these folks to delaware? in fact, i think that if they were sent to places like martha's vineyard and to the hamptons and some other places in northwest d.c. where i grew up, maybe some people would have a different opinion of this instead of it just being sort of an arizona and a texas problem. well, we will see who eventually finds the stomach to tackle this problem and whether it's more judges for the backlog courts or whatever it takes. there have to be solutions. jack and harry, thanks for giving us double duty tonight . great to see you both. of course. thanks. thank you . protesters against disney's alleged woke agenda demonstrating outside the company's headquarters in burbank, california wednesday correspondent

10:24 pm
discuss the significance of thursday's historic suspicions of russia from the un human rights council and what russia may be plotting next . let's bring in former foreign policy adviser to president obama, david tafuri and former national security council chief of staff fred flights. david, let's start with you. what stands out as the most significant thing if any, about what the u.n. did yesterday? well, this was an important decision because the u.n., the u.n. and the human rights council kicked out russia, the first country to be kicked out since libya was kicked out in 2011. and the vote and the effort was led by the u.s. so there was some triumph by the u.s. but what i also thought was very interesting is many u.s. allies did not vote with us, for instance, jordan and egypt who two countries in the middle east that we provide a lot of support to and a lot of aid to, they abstained. even more surprisingly, our
10:25 pm
neighbor to the south mexico abstained. so did brazil. they also abstained. so it shows you that even though there's been global condemnation of russia, not all of the countries that are our friends are completely on our side and that's disappointing. so the u.s. needs to do more to lead the globe in terms of condemning russia. but more importantly, of course, the u.s. has to continue its effort to lead nato in resupplying the ukrainian resistance. in the end, the only thing that's really going to move putin is if there is an overwhelming application of force by the ukrainian resistance backed by the resources and the arsenal of nato. you mentioned nato, david. fred, let me ask you yesterday we saw ukraine's foreign minister dimitri kaleeba go to nato's headquarters in brussels and he put it bluntly to all the nato leaders. he said how many more butchers have to occur until you give us
10:26 pm
the heavy weapons and the harsher sanctions that we need. why won't the nato countries do that ? you know, i don't know. and this is really a critical time, griff we need to have public pressure in the u.n. sanctions really are the ukrainians to the teeth because this conflict is moving in a different direction. the russians are moving away from areas they can't take to areas putin thinks he has to take for a possible cease fire . and that's the right now. and this is a key moment while russia is trying to seize all the territory wants to keep in a possible peace agreement, the ukrainian weapons say they have to have to stop. the russians are taking more territory to take territory back . i don't know what the reason and all these weapons that president obama has promised that haven't arrived, they need to get there and congress has to find out what's the holdup. and the pentagon says that these new javelins,
10:27 pm
that hundred million dollars additional supplement should be here within four to six days hands we're told the switchblades are on their way or have already arrived. but ultimately we are uncovering these horrific would appear to be russian committed, atrocious cities in war crimes. david, do you see a role in the un in leading for a war crimes trial of vladimir putin and the russian army? the un human rights council can order and investigation of russia and russia's actions in ukraine and i think they will do that . also, the international criminal court has already opened an investigation and they could end up indicting people in russia, including putin. and i expect they will do that . all of those things are very important. the evidence that is coming out now about what happened in bukha and other towns that russia has left is astonishing and we're only going to get more of
10:28 pm
that evidence and it needs to be collected in a way that it can convince everyone around the world, even those who were doubters and even those who have listened to the russian propaganda which blames ukrainians for this to convince them that this is happening. but in the end, that's what's really going to happen later on . these war crimes investigations are important, but they're not going to turn the tide of the war right now. what's going to turn a tide of the war right now, as fred said, is making sure that nato continues to provide more weaponsnd more equipment to ukraine. i was in ukraine last week where you are and as you know, griff, the, the lines of support from poland and other countries on the border with ukraine are still open. so we're able still provide equipment and we need to take advantage of that and move as much equipment and defensive weapons and other weapons that ukraine has asked for to ukraine as soon as possible to ensure that they can take advantage of the gains that they've made and take
10:29 pm
more more territory back from russia. yep. and fred, we just about 15 seconds i don't know if you can hear because of the wind, the air raid sirens are going off now in libya. we get it almost every morning and people usually go about their business here. but we're hearing this could last for years, just 10 , 15 seconds. what's your assessment of how long this lasts? i don't think it's going to last for years. i think putin wants to wrap it up on his terms. but look, if it lasts for years, i'm afraid ukraine is going to be flattened. i don't think that's going to happen. the russian people i don't think the russian generals who stand for maybe months at most to very great insight. thank you for staying to play with this, shannon. we'll send it back to you. all right, chris , please stay safe there. and we know that becomes a common occurrence, but it's never not unsettling. okay, with the latest round of sanctions on russia, the u.s. and its allies have imposed economic penalties that hit home for vladimir putin
10:30 pm
targeting the assets of his two adult daughters from poland tonight , correspondent alexis mcadams shows us more about these two very low profile women and how the new sanctions could impact them. these latest sanctions personal for vladimir putin is the u.s. and the eu target his daughters? these are pictures of his adult daughter. as you see here on your screen, the russian president doesn't talk about his personal life and has actually refused to acknowledge the names of his own kids. but the treasury department has identified them as maria petina and katerina tinka nova katerina is a former competitive dancer seen here performing in a russian dance competition. the thirty five year old now runs an artificial intelligence initiative in moscow state university. maria putina is thirty six years old and uses the surname of vornado. reports say she is a medical researcher and a co-owner of health care investment firm that's received big money from according to reuters. putin briefly mentioned his daughters at a press conference back in 2015,
10:31 pm
telling the crowd that he is very proud of the girls, speak three languages fluently and have studied only in russia . the two are widely considered to be daughters from his first marriage. these new punishments come as the world watched those horrific images coming in mariupol. take a look here. these are those images that prompted these new sanctions, the death and destruction triggering those new calls for action and not just on two daughters but also on russian foreign minister, family and the members of russia's security council. the white now says all of these people helped fund putin's war in ukraine. we've seen a pattern over time of president and russian oligarchs stash assets and resources in the bank accounts and of their family members here in poland. the prime minister calling for tougher sanctions on russia after he saw those images on a butcher. also the russian opposition party calling for west to sanction vladimir putin's alleged mistress janan telexes . >> thank you much more from on the ground in ukraine next .

and personal and through an interpreter and over a zoom call, we were able to speak to a ukrainian soldier who told us what it was like to respond to the streets of buka and how he has dealt with seeing the carnage. listen to this in feeling that i didn't manage to save my citizens on time. it's still in me. >> i still have that feeling and that's a terrible alexander pogrebin. she shared his firsthand account as a ukrainian citizen deputy of the city council and a member of the ukrainian air assault forces. he was among the first troops into buka after russian forces withdrew, leaving behind the bodies of ukrainian citizens loyal to brussels was a mutual there so that those first civilians and it looked like they were moving in one direction and they were shot all at the same time. i cannot believe that the

regular army that we were fighting against would do such atrocities are basically telling us we believe the murders were carried out in part by russian paratroopers of tumultuousness command. it turns out that there was the united you know, some division of paratroopers as well as the mechanized shooters subdivision of the russian federation. ukrainian president vladimir zelenskyy told the u.n. that while some of the victims and two were shot, others were crushed by tanks as many women were and killed in front of their children. bodies still littering the streets and freshly turned soil at the site of mass graves haunted by the evidence of savagery pogrom, bilski has this message for the world. >> i gave certain promises to my people. i gave the promise to defend to protect and help. and that's what i'm doing. and it's an honor. and he adds their task is to fight for the principles of democracy while also fighting

for the right to choose a civilized society. back to you, laura , thank you very much. before we get to the top of the hour, we want to check back in with griff jenkins live live in some of the latest developments. it's friday morning there in griff first of all, you have horrible weather on top of everything else was going on there. but we're also hearing that you're getting reports there could be atrocities even worse than what we've seen in bukha hard to comprehend. yeah, it's very significant and that's what we'll be following all day today. i mean, we're still learning more about bujar and as we reported tonight , the mayor of boucher saying that three news sites of mass shootings of civilians with mass graves where the mayor said that people were quote dumped like firewood into those but now up the road about twenty five kilometers up the road from butchie in borra, donetsk, that is the site of
10:53 pm
atrocities that may be even worse according to president zelenskyy. and they're really just going through the rubble now trying to figure out what they're dealing with in borat, deon's. now we know that several of the areas to include hosta million others also hit so hard as russian forces left around the capitol of kyiv. and then we're also trying to learn more about the situation in mariupol. but everyone just assumes what we're going to find there may shock the world even more than what we've seen so far. shannon, what can you tell us about different things that are coming forward that have been captured that are giving us a bigger picture about maybe what the russian soldiers were actually up to? we know the accusations at this point, but there have been some intercepted information and some other things that are shedding further light on these atrocities. what can you tell us about that ? well, there's one in particular scene and this significant
10:54 pm
that is ukrainian officials as this air raid sirens are going off again, ukrainian officials intercepting reportedly some recordings of a russian commander instructing his soldiers to, quote, take out civilians in a village near mariupol. now we have our interpreter and ukrainian producer trying to verify and get a hold of these recordings so we can bring them to you. but if indeed that's true , it's going to be more evidence that will surely be a part of any future war crimes prosecution canon. well, and griff, you know, you've said you hear those air sirens almost every morning, but you said most people go on about their business. they've got to be war weary at this point. but day to day, if you give us a quick final word on the mood there. well, the final word is they're much safer here at the rear of the front lines, but they know that ultimately they're not safe because as we've seen in recent weeks, missiles do
