rating than the president was the press he's right about that. but the thing is he didn't do enough interspection of the press "new york times" isn't liberal enough that's his complaint about "new york times"? that you know, they don't do enough follow-up questions? how about the fact that they toasted first amendment to someone who just created an ministry of truth. they didn't mention that "the new york post" had a story censored about the president's son and he used president's son to make a joke about peter doocy i think peter doocy should have said keep my dad's name out of your mouth. [laughter] >> my favorite part also is the president, i mean, he just kept do we have pictures of him by the way he kept fixing that tie and every time he fixed the tie it got worse and worgs. abby. >> i couldn't even pay attention to what president biden was saying because i was focused on your reaction about darn bowtie. >> he could not and then hi tried to fix it and made it worse and then you can tell we were trying to figure out is someone telling him to fix it or
1:49 am
someone in the audience going hey fix your tie -- and i think it was someone in the audience i don't know -- if he would have been able to continue to talk if someone was saying fix your tie. fix your tie. >> it was like a clock it kept going all the the way around. >> is this why you didn't wear a bowtie. >> you don't because i don't want to deal with that. our friend jimmy is live on the red carpet are you there, brother. >> hey, hey, hey hello from nerd prom lawrence jones. now i want you guys to know it might be nerd prom but partying like 199 the because that's what year joe biden thinks it was. man i was sitting close he actually did a great job of delivering his jokes i enjoyed a lot of what biden said although i have to tell you those age jokes they're real. dude i have seen younger faces on money oh, my goodness gracious lawrence jones. lawrence: y'all getting reaction
1:50 am
from jimmy put it on his own show he talked about age but he talked about he said republicans in 2020, but he said there's a lot of democrats that think that joe is going run in 2024 jimmy. >> no, stop it. i mean night have been the best joke of the night is him suggesting six more years in the tank could you stop it lawrence jones i like joe biden he's a decent man but only person we know who quits talking in the middle of a sentence because he's done. he's sending in punt team on second down and all things considered a good vibe in the room until they went after doocy because we're big doocy supporters at fox news and want to congratulate myself for spending three hours in open bar and still able to go on the air. thank you for this opportunity lawrence. lawrence: you're doing it brother. i wanted to play this joke about disney let's play this and i'll get your reaction. >> yep. >> a lot of people say the
1:51 am
republican party is too extreme, too divisive to controlled by one person. they say that's not your father's republican party. rongd reagan said mr. tear this wall down and now tear down mickey mouses house and soon they'll be storming cinderella's castle you'll be sure of it. >> didn't remember the line right his deliveries so bad. >> dude, it is such a dumb culture war issue for them to be picking first of all. nobody wants to go to disney to go on a ride called snow white and the seven genders waiting two hours in line -- two lines in white to go on peter pan sexual and idea they want to really focus on that dumb disney culture war speaks to where their head is at here playing one side of the room aggressively. like they told cnn and chris quo

mow jokes and banning gay people and everything in between and own the whole biden deserves like b plus there were good jokes he didn't forget his name or start telling us he was batman but it was too cheap and partisan did a pretty good job all thins considered. lawrence: i want to bring abby back into the conversation. abby so one of the things that i noticed is that trevor, he did make some jokes against the progressive but he still a progressive so he couldn't give all cards out and wants to be invited to next party. >> there's a difference of making a joke and going deep you have in and make jokes as he want but different what they go about conservatives they hit lower but yeah i do appreciate that he kind of spread the wealth there. something i and here i don't mean to change subject but i hear jamie is there this started in 1921 and only time we see a
1:53 am
room full of people with so many different opinions is at a white house press briefing. but now you add alcohol into it, so jimmy have you found anybody that -- any fights breaking out because when you add alcohol to something -- and it's a bunch of different opinions you never know what's going happen. >> nice thing about people who work in journalism abby is they drink so much no kun can throw a punch they might spike the punch but not throwing it a punch people watching at home you'll never feel better about your own substance use than if you hang around journalism they're drinking like their pledging fraternity called five beta old guy in honor of joe biden. lawrence: it is so true tom i've gone to a couple of these it is so lame by the way i just wear a tux i'll never miss a opportunity to put on tux but this time we have to do lj cross country one thing i noticed that they're trying to outcompete each other there at the events
1:54 am
everyone thinks they're so important. >> and it is all -- they're all patting each other on the back, obviously, the joke of this whole thing is that the press is in league with the administration. they give a standing ovation to the president and they really mean it. we're supposed to have adversarial press and what we have is a bunch of people who it is all self-referential they think they're the cat's meow not doing their job and biggest story of the year were sensor and no one is mentioning. >> tom you're missing it because the future is bright this is the president explaining that he's going unify the country again -- watch. >> reality is that we are a great country. our future is bright, it's not guaranteed because democracy is never guaranteed that's the earned it has to be defended. it has to be protected. ever heard me say many time
1:55 am
there's not a damn thing this country can't do when we stangsd united and do it together and i know we can do anything we want to do. it is right. aye i've been around a long time and i'll give you word as biden i've never been more optimistic about america than i am today i promise you that. >> 90 seconds before he said and producers can say my word as a biden he's so predictable he said also that america is great when they spend the entire time this year in the year before bashing the krpght did i fall and hit my head? >> no that's what i was going to say he's like there's not a damn thing we can't do if we don't do it together and oppose you're jim crow on steroids and don't want to get the vaccine the pandemic of the unhaven'ted that was peak biden that was so absurd but again on the whole --
1:56 am
he held it together -- i'm in a good mood because only three people thought i was a waiter based on what i was wearing so -- grading on a generous scale and i might want to reevaluate my grade. lawrence: curious of the move there. i saw the president of the white house correspondents give that passionate speech that they are the defenders of the democracy that they're the last one standing, i mean, it was like the drunk folks in the press. do you see a hoorah and battle. >> iewm an outsider and never been to one of theetz. i can fit in with my alcohol consumption but in terms of background of what this is these people think they're saving the world and it is so funny because we're here to celebrate the
1:57 am
first amendment urntiond administration that is literally forming a board to ban speech. that they don't like which is the first amendment -- joe biden is the guy that tells you you're in a no smoking section and then lights cigarette and walks away it is bananas. lawrence: so crazy and tom one of the thing i noticed that he trevor during his comedy scene was talking about cnn and fact when trump was msnbc and in office that's all they talked about was trump now biden is in office all they still talk about is trump at least they're king the. consistent. >> lampooning right and trump but we have a guy next to him that can use it. you know, it is funny talking about unity oh there's nothing we can't do for if we all work together thing is country is together most of the country doesn't like biden but the press is supposed to be adversarial and not supposed to work together that's idea of a press.
1:58 am
is they're not supposed to work together with the president to get things done. this was to ask tough questions. lawrence: so true. abby -- last thoughts -- do you think that trevor did a good job do you think the president did a good job you're balanced on how you see things. but one of the thingings that i notice there is trevor kind of -- said that everything was going welt in the country i don't think americans are sell like this? >> he made a joke about president biden you know people look at it oh they're increasing the gas prices and the food prices and -- all of that rent that was a funny joke but yeah qhing you're in trevor noah position i do think that the hard position to be in because you have to make sure that you're a little bit even and he leaned a certain way but you can only applaud him for doing that. i'm so confused about this event because it is about democracy and pete davidson is there with kim kardashian -- >> so -- >> we have to talk about the
1:59 am
wean -- saw them strolling in there how do you go from kanye to weiner guy am i wrong? >> it shows that this is too much of a -- it's a culturally hip event. >> press is not supposed to be part of the, you know, the hollywood crowd. but now they've come together and maybe we can go back to an adversarial press someday. lawrence: i hate that producers stop video because pete was getting ready to stumble. >> going to say be nice to pete davidson he's a hollywood rescue cat people keep dating him like a rescue at the sheet and gets them in the news for a couple weeks but they're about three foot 7. kim kardashian makeses gutfeld look like kareem abdul jabbar i had no idea. >> thanks so much for joining me panel tonight find jimmy at 5 p.m. eastern time on local
2:00 am
