under 1.5%. now, it is over 8%. and these gas prices before we head into memorial day weekend absolutely crushing americans. the white house, todd consistently a three-headed bogeyman and they blame covid, putin and greedy corporations. but the american people poll after poll are not buying that so these comments now, the president saying we will come out of this stronger than when we are going into it, i'm not sure anybody agrees with that, todd. >> todd: griff, and this dovetails all weekend long coming out of the white house, representing the white house on the sunday shows over the weekend and this notion joe biden also said it today. this notion of we are doing the best out of everybody in the world. okay, great. does the woman who's trying to put formula in her baby's mouth care about that that we are the best of the worst? does that woman care when she's going to the gas station to try
1:03 am
to fill up her tank? does the average parent care when we go to get food? no, they do not care that we are the best of the worst beer they are upset because they can afford what they could have afford six months to a year ago. that shows how this white house is wildly out of touch. you heard the president mention they also need tax corporation in that statement that you just made a few moments ago on air talking about the climate. the average american isn't focused on that right now. they want to get out of this cycle that we are in where the economy is tanking and the stock market, 401(k)s thinking. that is what they are concerned about. they are not concerned about the issues president biden spoke about. to have the white house come up all weekend long and champion, look, "we are best in the world," that is not good enough. in the meantime, another big take away out of this, griff, the president making headlines with this comment particularly

military action when it comes to taiwan, listen. >> we agree with one china policy. we signed on to it and all of the tenant agreements made from there. but the idea that it could be taken by force, just taken by force is just not appropriate. >> are you willing to get involved militarily taiwan? >> yes. >> you are? >> that is the commitment we made. speed went griff come as we know the last time president biden said something like this, the white house had to walk it back. still unclear if the white house will have to walk this back today, of course, with comments from the white house. i want to press you on this because you understand how this works in practice. does this mean, do you think this could mean boots on the ground in that region in taiwan? or are we talking about a contract being sent and the
1:05 am
white house to justify what it said? >> i think that we can safely say jake sullivan got on his cell phone as fast as possible to talk to his chinese counterpart the moment those words came out of the president's mouth. why? for our viewers up learning about this, the u.s. does not have official diplomatic relations with taiwan. we recognize the government in beijing. we do, however, help supply weapons and have said taiwan should have a right to defend itself. so the suggestion that the u.s. would militarily intervene should china take an aggressive move towards taiwan is something the administration has not done. the cleanup on aisle nine and especially as you point out in the context president biden saying that the burden to protect taiwan is "even stronger" in the presence words
1:06 am
now in the wake of russia's invasion in ukraine. so, this certainly has upped the stakes. we are getting word on the wires, the chinese official starting to respond to it. they are not happy and this is going to be a big walk back, if you will particularly when the president was hoping to make news on this endo specific trade agreement, which was somehow going to try to help at home, the grocery store and gas stations. this is something that will raise a lot of eyebrows as well as red flags in terms of our official position on where we stand with regards to taiwan. >> todd: griff, may be on the minority on this. i'm not to worry about china being upset with the white house showing some semblance of strength but when i'm upset about it has come to this to begin with because you mentioned, the president said we wouldn't be in the situation if not what happened for what happened with russia.
1:07 am
but who allowed russia the way it did, the invasion of ukraine? it was president biden and arming ukraine when ukraine said, "hey, we might be in for something here. could you give us a little help? "they dearly dallied and now they have to come up with, the united states billions of dollars when many days into the war and i don't need to tell you we are covering it at length. so this and disingenuous for the white house to say we are in this problem now. this is a problem come i don't want to say caused but showed a lack of resolve peer they showed a lack of resolve on the war stage when it came to afghanistan. china sees that and they say, oh, my gosh, we can do something with taiwan and puts us in a situation to make a statement where we say, look we will defend taiwan if necessary. >> one more point with that and if you step back, todd if you remember before the election,
1:08 am
president biden then candidate joe biden was being portrayed as the international relations genius. he was the guy who was going to prepare all of the international woes that president trump had created. he had the experience after decades dealing with international relations. so now fast forward to where we are. we heard president biden and the last 24 hours talk about the flights they were making in chinese airspace has been traveling so much troubling and maneuvering and china is intentionally doing to see if they can get a reaction. the fact that joe biden reacted to that is certainly something that you would not expect from a guy that was supposed to have this as numeral uno in his wheelhouse of strengths. >> todd: interesting, interesting perspective. griff, we appreciate having you on this important date thank you to the scheduling gods but's but there is a lot of other news,

liberal majority on the court to now taking the leak, which was illegal and using it to motivate their bays to the tune of imminent in their minds is another act of incompetence by this administration. we should have the maximum security for a supreme court justice. but the fact that we are even talking about this. the fact the administration is making a call to america we are prepared but they are not trying to do anything to lower the temperature with their liberal base. it is very disappointing. and it is certainly a scare tactic for the court to not reverse roe v. wade. >> griff: congressman you mentioned the leak is illegal. would you like to see that prosecuted? >> absolutely pure the republicans in the house oversight committee that we called on the department of justice to tell us exactly what they are going to do to
