cindric expressed their tremendous loss chanting do something to president biden as he left mass this morning. >> do something! do something! do something! >> emily: that was on sunday. kennedy, the timeline is heartbreaking. 77 minutes passed before the shooter was engaged and killed. >> yes, people are sickened to see what happened inside that school. desperate parents were pleading with the police officers trying to go inside, they were trying themselves to go inside. they were being handcuffed and restrained and we know one child

bled out waiting for help in the critical, that hour between when police arrived and they killed the shooter. we know enough at this point that that cannot happen. there are no excuses, there is no rationale for any of this. what is disturbing for people trying to access the truth, the story has changed. we have been mislead and lied to and that also can't happen. there needs to be accountability from the moment something like this begins. a lot of people look at officers and say, this is what you signed up, for in there, you have guns. >> part of the scrutiny includes what we learned friday, the uvalde police department ignored protocol from active shooter protocol, which they had just

practiced two months earlier. it would be great if you had help, i assure you the kids need more help than you need help. >> i think that is the most disappointing part of all of this. i speak with law enforcement officers and they are baffled. law enforcement at large is most hurt by it and most aggravated and frustrated by it. they want to know what is going on, too. training law enforcement officers need to go through, we need to capitalize importance of training in schools. a lot of people are saying young kids should not have to practice lockdown procedure. unfortunately, it is reality. i went through it and learned what to do if you had an active shooter. i think it would be great if schools refresh the knowledge on

that and sometimes that can save lives. >> that is right. david, so many questions left unanswered. among them and part of the texas department of public safety and doj investigation, the chief did not have his radio on him at the time, which potentially him mistaken it with contained situation rather than active shooter. >> accountability must take place here. thank goodness for the border agent getting in and helping to take out the shooter. no one is being excused here, but when you go into active shooter situation, it is very different than when you are trained for an active shooter situation. we have to continue to make sure we give law forcement good

points, get to the root of the problem, the mental illness that goes untreated and unchecked. we pour so much money into things and people are hurting others. this is what have you to look at, the shooter, his condition, how did he get here, how is this possible and why wasn't the school protected in a better way so that he was able to enter. >> and president biden pledges action, it illustrates disconnect between federal response and federal national regulation and the state and local level and their boundaries that they have. doesn't this underscore need for more funding, more resources, more training and more support at every level, rather than blaming and diluting the failure and support, tomi. >> tomi: i'm glad we're talking

about mental health and the warning signs. i don't know why we don't say something when something is wrong. this is a common pattern between people seeking to do mass harm. they start posting videos torturing animals, why is nobody flagging that and saying, this is a problem, this is sick and disgusting and a common pattern that we see. someone needs to be speaking up. we need resources in our community and at schools to be able to traesz those we see warning signs in and be able to step in and do something before it is too late. the mental health components, we need to be checking up on kids because they have upon spent two years in self learning. how can we fix it from a mental health perspective. >> if you see something, say

something. a 10-year-old has been led away in florida for threatening a shooting. this is what happens when little delinquents, this is consequences, real world. to tomi's points, this is what you face and communication that needs to occur. >> this is a wake-up call for the school and for the family. at 10 years old, you're at the point where you can have structure and be saved. for kids like the buffalo shooter and the shooter in texas, they were essentially disposed of by their parents. there are warning signs and these sick weirdos have a bunch of th in common issue including fatherlessness and being loners and being very

angry at women, there was a great article profiling the personality type of the young men who do this and as she pointss out, it is not young women, it is young men to whom human life is completely disposable as many of them were disposed of. i disagree with david that involuntary commitment is the answer and there is a difference between taking the $200 billion in stimulus money schools have gotten, why not take that money and use the lion share on therapists and mental health and counselors who can get eyeballs on the kids and identify some warnings signs. tomi's points, if you see a kid torturing an animal or talking about it, go through the checklist and then you have a real problem. >> no one knows better and sees that than that particular

around memorial day, they hand out poppies, sit and talk with them and ask about their experiences. members have family members they have supported, they have incredible stories. they do amazing charity work and their job is to put country and patriotism above all else. they're wonderful peep toll talk to, you might see them out and about in your neighborhood today. if you have kids, take them to a monument and explain to them the meaning of this day and how it is different than independence day or veterans day and why we do stop and pause and we think about the conflicts that have shaped this country. think about the missteps of the government and brave men and women who continue to wear the uniform and to fight and who did

not make it back home to their families who prayed for their safety every single day. think about the families, as well, and the fact we get to enjoy so much freedom and so much open conversation and ways they don't in other countries because of those sacrifices. they don't get to sit around and challenge each other and disagree in china and north korea and russia the way we do here and as people who talk about politics and foreign affairs and war, it's a great responsibility and also something that we do appreciate and we ultimately talk about those things in the way we do because of sacrifices people like that have made. >> jacky? >> yeah, you see the images and to kennedy's points, you remember why our country is so

great. we are lucky to live here. our nation's military is the strongest in the world. the people and families who sacrifice for us, families send their children away. mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers who have lost somebody in this fight for freedom. it brings our community together when we take a day like this and pause, exactly not to go shopping at the sales or necessarily to throw a big party, but to think about what is behind today and why our country is so wonderful, for people who get stuck and mired down, there are core tenants that make america great. we need to consider them and consider them not just today, but everyday. >> and david, part of what made this particular memorial day celebration honoring ceremony a little special is yesterday
