[laughter] rich: you see year after year and the times she has lived through, what she has experienced and what the monarchy itself has experienced over the past 70 years now that she has been queen. it is just an amazing celebration we been watching over the last several days here. really marking quite a historic run was a top monarch in england. >> absolutely. it is something we can all enjoy. it doesn't matter if you are they are or were ever you are because the queen has such grace. she has such charm and such leadership that you just really admire her as a renaissance woman. what she has it done and what she has represented. no one is perfect but we all love queen elizabeth the second period i am just so excited to see that everybody is they are. people came from all over the course and londoners are out but people came from all over the

world to see this in person. our greg palkot's life in the middle of it all. he's right there in london. greg what is it like now? >> arthel, rich it is just across from big ben behind a big bed about five blocks away is a little bit of history. it is the culmination of the four day celebration of the 70 years on the throne for queen elizabeth the second period but it's had its highs, it had at low's and soap opera but really right now is the climax. we have been watching a two and a half hour at padgett parade that been going by buckingham palace. in all the aspects of her career in the history that is happened here. prince terry i'm sorry harry truman and winston churchill were running things in the u.s. and the uk at the time when she started. now it is a different situation

event put aside as we wait for the queen to come out thing is ed sheard known around the world pry the hottest act in the uk right now. also known the uk and elsewhere. we can understand god save the queen that will be joined in by everybody. we would imagine by that time we should see the queen once again on the balcony at buckingham palace. along with the rest of the court royal family that's prince charles the air parent to the throne of abby prince william and a few others that would become a real favorites prince george and also prince louis. again she made the appearance with the family on thursday. of course that was very, very fun and spectacular. everybody loved it with the

flyover and little louis talking to his 96-year-old great-grandmother. friday and saturday she stepped back she spent had a little discomfort of having the time out he was about a half-hour in the public for her. but as a good long time for her. that's okay with the thanksgiving service at st. paul we lunch with some political big shots. on saturday we had a lovely pop concert in front of buckingham palace sprayed a lot of tributes to the queen. on sunday a lot of block parties and street parties. this all leading up to the pageant and this hoped-for final glimpse for this jubilee celebration of the queen. that is what we are waiting on right now guys. arthel: i got to say something, greg, you said when she was there with the family but oh what is happening there? window is a little bit of a tease. when the queen was there with the family the other day, she

sue. arthel: i'm way across the pond on the other side watching this bright new deep in my heart we would see the queen today. from what i know, it's to her majesty is. she does not disappoint. she is a loyal to the end and she is fierce to infinity. >> that is right. think this is been a difficult thing for them to balance with the queen's presence. everyone wanted to see her there. and yet everyone is aware at 96 she's deafly not as fit and able as she wasn't wants to make appearances as easily as she might have done in the past. she carefully rationed her appearances at the jubilee celebration for that's part of the reinvention she is made of her image. i think as of yesterday we are now seeing the queen as the grandmother, the great-grandmother of the nation. not just the mother and the leader. i think that was most apparent in that film she made were she was having tea with a paddington

bear. it's for the younger generation some who barely got to know her as the queen consciously. they want her to see with one of the most love animated characters. interestingly there is something of a political message if one could say the royal family as political, because a paddington of course is a refugee. he assembly that came from the darkest peru in the book. said he was inspired by the jewish refugees during world war ii in britain hosted, 7500 than they said the queen even perhaps giving a nod for the fact that britain is a welcoming all sorts of people who need help as well. she may be made appearances when she could. she has made judiciously she's major the nation has been able to celebrate this monumental historic jubilee. in such a way that can't just celebrate her but also values she is found for in britain is

found for. >> absolutely in her hand was in every step of the way for the preparations. the planning, greg palkot you are there. i don't know what it feels like to be there in london. i can only imagine. >> quite a thrill arthel. the hope was the queen would show up for this final moment of the four-day platinum jubilee celebration. the thinking was she might but it really took until the route went up over buckingham pills for people to rush in and rush down the mouth to look for her. and she looked great i've got to say part she wasn't out there long but she was there long enough to smile, to wave to the crowds and the crowds here absolutely thrilled. it's completely filled up rid of the important thing to note here, arthel, there's a few other people on the balcony as well. prince charles will be taking over at some point in the

future. prince william who will probably also be taking over at some point in the future. including a few more errors, the small kids, prince george and prince louis. it was the core royal group. the court royal family behind her. that was the big point we didn't see anybody else out there. we saw charles with camilla, we saw kate with volume we saw their little kids. that is the future of royalty of the royal family and this country. who knows for how long, 50, 75 years you figured out. it was a wonderful moment here. a wonderful celebration part it's been a great mood for four days for there's a lot of bad stuff going around the world these days. but to celebrate this woman who is seeing this country through good and bad is a great thing, arthel. arthel: it is a great thing. god bless the queen, oh my goodness this is such a thrill. what a wonderful site. we will be back in a moment.

still want to know why is gas so high? what is the answer? >> probably some of that would help, arthel. the reality is, look if you go back and put that chart back up you had on a moment ago gas prices rising since the beginning of the biden administration paid what that corresponds to the economy cutting back online. remember when biden took over it was january 2021. 2020 had preceded the economy was flat on its back then because of the pandemic and the shutdown. you see a lot of demands come back into the marketplace parade that is driven up prices. no question about it the war in ukraine has also exacerbated that. he saw the inflation gas prices well before the war started in ukraine. ukraine made it a lot worse. it probably is going to extend

that inflation and gas prices and in general not just gas but commodity. >> if i could jump in there for a second, john let me jump in. what you are saying and that same the president said the same thing inflation is exacerbated by putin's war on ukraine. supply chain shortages et cetera pretty also outlined he says that our economy faces these challenges from a position of strength. so, do americans think the economy as good as the president says it is? >> that americans are responding with their wallets. they are outspending -- consumer spending is still robust. the economy is still growing. it contracted slightly in the first quarter. that was because some events, inventories have been built up were not building it up they

could be coming down the highway a bit. i'm contraction of the economy. lower economic activity than in the previous. , that could be in the offing here. rather raises interest rates just right so inflation comes back contracts slightly with moderate without it tipping into a recession. that's a real hard line to walk as we have seen historically the fed gets it wrong more often that gets it right. rich: the president also outlined in that op-ed pieces up to the fed to control inflation. let me switch her since i have a had the generous six committees holding its first primetime hearing this thursday. the d.o.j. just signaled that it will not charge former trump

chief of staff mark meadows and former chief of staff are basically blowing off committee subpoenas. did the d.o.j. basically pull the teeth of the generate sixth committee before the hearings even start? or might there be some back channel cooperation happening? >> let me finish on the account of her just for one second period the one thing the fed had going for it is employment is up and it's a really good labor market. they may be able to serve that into a slower economy without a contraction. that is the positive thing here. it's great time to be looking for work and employment is still strong in the united states. on the generate sixth committee it is been a mixed bag on how much cooperation there has been from previous members of the administration. the d.o.j. has been a little bit hesitant about pursuing charges against people.

to extract from previous players in the administration without the d.o.j. having to get involved? on the other hand you saw a former trade advisor to president trump arrested for contempt of congress paid for not responding to a subpoena. there's been a bit of a mixed bag. i think what we are going to see in these hearings, arthel cause effort by congress to have a big civics lesson. and to say look, it is a country unifying factor in this country is adherence to the law. rule of law. we can differ on a lot of different things. our politics, our religion, our ethnicity but there is rule of law. when you obviate that when you violate the rule of law either by trying to illegally subvert a

legal election in which your candidate loss or which you lost there are consequences to that. think that's what the committee's going to be trying to do in these hearings. arthel: really quickly then how do you think these hearings will resonate in that court of public opinion? have americans lost their appetite for this? >> it may not have lost their appetite for televised hearings that are dramatic but they may have very well made up their mind. those people who believe that this was a legal election, which it was. last election likely which they did they have made up their mind. those people who support the rioters, the folks at tac the capitol and who believe in former president trump's falsehoods about the election, i think they have made up their mind as well. there's probably some people in the middle there who could be

and our committee's job is to investigate where the american taxpayers are being asked to hand over large portions of their tax dollars. let me tell you, down at the border it is ground zero. we are seeing tens of billions of dollars in housing, migrant care items, childcare items you can find out there but you can't find in our own grocery stores. we are also seeing millions of dollars worth of resting border wall materials we found canceled contracts, but what is so sad we were able to see he was benefiting from all of this bro tell you who is benefiting it's the mexican cartel paid the border patrol told us what we were down there, that the cartel is making roughly $32 million a day, rich just by human trafficking alone on the southern border. allowing people to illegally cross over into the u.s. >> and you look at the situation on the border patrol is telling you you cannot cross that border

without signoff of paying someone in a cartel. is that the arrangement there? we are not even talking about there is the smuggling aspects, there is that aspect there is also if you are a family that wants to make it over the rio grande river cross north you've got to hand over a significant amount of money to a drug cartel. >> that is exactly right. just along the southern border the border patrol told us 174 different nationalities and 71 nationalities just at the rio grande valley sector where we were at his cross the southern border in the last year. what happens is these families go to the cartel and for example griff was talking about several chinese families, chinese families typically have to pay about 10,000 dollars per person to the cartel to cross the border but it can range from 1000 -- $24000 per person.

there will be an budgeting federal budgeting agreement between democrats and republicans to spend money differently down there? >> rich, by did you suit the legally impound over a billion dollars for border wall construction. the money was appropriated almost 18 months ago on a bipartisan basis. that means both republicans and democrats voted for it. but biden refuses to use it. he would rather the american people look at piles of rusty metal or roughly $350 million are spent upwards of $6 million a day on cancel construction contracts and no-show jobs. the border is so porous we were along the southern border, there are so many gaps it is crazy. you see 18-foot tall fences and then you see huge gaps for 100 yards and then even some fences that are maybe four -- 5-foot fences they call those guardrails it is absolutely

arthel: in battle los angeles district attorney is walking back a statement in his office made about the sentencing in a controversial hit-and-run case. soon a comb in his life in los angeles with details, what more can you tell us about this? >> hi arthel, according to l.a. county sheriff's, progressive d.a. george got it wrong. said his office was never okay with the lightweight punishment handed down to a teenager over the hit and run. security camera footage woman take a look at that a woman and her eight -month-old baby were to stroller at the time mowed down by the 16-year-old and venice charged with hit and run. ultimately was sentenced to a youth camp for five -- seven months for the d.a.'s office noted the minor injuries in the case in a statement they originally said in part quote fortunately the baby was not injured and the mother received
