forward we won't tolerate it and they dropped the ball. >> todd: people thinking about doing wrong and respective victims. >> just like everything else come every day, we will give you a slap on the risk and nothing to worry about. that has to change. i don't understand when the victims in the streets became the bad guys and the bad guys became the victims. we have to keep the bad guys behind bars. there has to be accountability and the children's accountability and things like this will continue to happen. >> carley: speaking of keeping the bad guys behind bars, "the new york post" features a 23-year-old and his name is isaac rodriguez and they refer to him as sir isaac newton because he's been arrested 46 times for shoplifting last year. he is finally behind bars and he had this to say to "the new york post," he said "i may have gotten caught 46 times my can't remember, but i got a whale a lot more than that. this is a blessing in disguise.

i know i wasn't going to be sober if i was still out there. i would have died sooner or later." he was shoplifting because he had a drug habit. i know he is saying thankfully i'm in jail now. this is actually a good thing in my life which is one thing a topic of conversation but the other thing though, he was arrested 45 times without facing any punishment. i was that possible? >> well, let's go a step further, he got caught on the record 45 times. imagine how many times he's gone to a location and taken things, two, three, four times the amount. there is no reason 50 times the justice system should turn around and say, now we will go after you and you have to stand behind bars. it has to happen much sooner. think about all the stores from the victims i had stuff stolen from them that work so, so hard turning their life savings into a business. someone goes in there, take items. there is no entrance i know of that gives back and helps out

the stores are the victims after mistaken. >> todd: i think it is so crucial you focus on the victims because we don't focus on them enough. going back to the suspect himself, shouldn't this be a wake-up call to the woke left and soft on crime policies is actually best to rehabilitate the criminal? here you have the criminals saying mathias, jail saved my life! >> todd, across the country, not just new york city but happening every single day and you know how many guys that go into rite aid and patterns the same person to go in there and steel x amount of items? this last week i went to 7-eleven in manhattan to get two energy drinks for my friends and it's locked. you can't get it. and so the employee goes and fbi said, why is this locked up? i did inventory the other day

and 72 items of this exact energy drink were missing. so imagine how many losses are going on day in and day out in stores. we have to put guys behind bars and set the example and move forward. >> carley: over the weekend there was a mass shooting in philadelphia. three people dead, 12 injured and chicago over the weekend a police officer shot as well. the nation agrees that something needs to change. the issue is we can't quite agree on what exactly that is. what do you think would be a solution that could get bipartisan support? >> we have to stop every time someone uses a firearm in a mass shooting and change the laws. we have laws in place. we are not enforcing the law. look at all the shootings happening in new york city. the bronx, manhattan, queens. they are all 15, 16 years old. why don't we enforce the laws we have them put people behind the bars and have mandatory?

reckless driver plowed into her and her baby. >> todd: no progressive george gascon backtracking on his claims that sheriff's department agreed with that driver's life sentencing. ashley strohmier here. >> that he will spend five months in a juvenile probation camp after plowing into the mother and her son with that car. thanks to the l.a. district attorney george gascon's office. calling the final sentence 5-7 months in the youth camp and appropriate resolution. the incident happened august 6, 2021 this past friday. and released a statement that sheriff's department agreed with the felony charges filed but the sheriff's tweeted saturday saying "that was foals." we were never consulted as we were not investigating the agency. this year's would never be okay but this hit-and-run case. self empowering and encouraging credible behavior, hold them accountable.

month. there were only so many pilots to do that. our schedules are pretty packed for the month. and usually it could be a problem with cancellations. right now if your flight is still on, you're probably all set and good to go. with the preemptive cancellations that you are recently with most airlines and that includes southwest. but i mean come i wouldn't throw your plans away. if you have them set, go on that vacation. >> carley: all right, good advice there. why is there major staffing shortage among airlines? being a pilot seems like it would be such a great job. >> it is a great job. but it is not a job you can get right away. it is a lot of training that goes into its purity it just takes time. with the major airlines, especially we had early retirements with covid early offered and lots of guys took it. that is especially true in the training centers where we had

much older pilots training. they took a lot of early retirements. so to try to get them back in, new instructors back into train us is challenging. it takes a good 6-8 months to get them up to speed. you know, that is kind of where the pipeline is, tight. >> carley: one of the ideas being debated right now to get more pilots in the sky is to cut down on the number of hours they need to be certified. i was reading that republic airways is asking the government to allow pilots to fly 750 hours to have that number of hours under their belt, which is half of the current requirement. does that seem like a good idea to you? >> that is not a good idea. we are definitely not in favor of any kind of reduction in qualifications, time, excuse me, the time that it takes to get

your qualifications to become an airline pilot. those are usually the smaller jets, regional airlines better, hearing those kind of pilots. your major airlines don't have that issue yet. but we definitely are against lowering any type of qualifications. it is a safety concern for us. you know, that is obviously from apocalypse and it comes to piloting. >> carley: everybody has their own travel nightmare. never the pilot's fault that this happens. sometimes, things are completely out of control. i was recently in richmond, virginia, trying to get back to new york city in the gate gets over the allowed speaker and the flight would be canceled. i tried to rent a car and obviously couldn't do that. i resorted to taking uber from richmond to washington, d.c. and by the time i got there, that flight got canceled too. i had to spend a night in a hotel.

so what does need to happen to make the airline industry a little bit more reliable? like i said, a lot of times out of your control or the airlines control because weather. but my goodness, so many travel headaches that people talk about. >> yeah, one of the things, the major points, it is rarely the flight attendant or pilots fault or other employees working the flight. so please be patient with us all. >> carley: of course. >> we want to get home just like you. that is one of the things to remember. whether it is a thing we can't avoid appeared summer especially, there are thunderstorms. if you are on the front line of that thunderstorm, you probably should rent a car to the west. your flight may not be canceled. it is challenging and it there is not a town we can do about that. and we try to obviously not cancel flights, but it goes back

stickier, a lot more difficult to see crisis come down. so i suspect a high number through the end of the year. >> carley: speaking of polls, here is a new win 28% approved how president biden is handling in inflation in 70% disapprove. one of the things we are learning the biden administration is considering is cutting tariffs on chinese imports. so i guess the real question there, with that benefit our economy more or would it benefit china's? >> it is a great question and the answer is both. without understanding the politics of it, which i certainly don't, the economics are pretty simple. if you cut tariffs, the price comes down for consumers. but as you said, carly, that is good for the producers. in an ideal world we wouldn't have free float of trade but you and i know countries don't play by the same rules that we play by. tariffs are an effective way in some cases to actually try to correct those imbalances.

but for the average consumer even with the tariffs cut, carley. we will not see that much relief. >> todd: dan, don't worry, pete buttigieg said joe biden has got it. listen. >> the president has made clear that it is a top economic priority and he laid out a clear strategy for doing that. i'm sure additional ideas will be welcome. unfortunately from the other side of the aisle is not very much concrete ideas. >> todd: i studied this stuff at my job but pete buttigieg with a clear strategy but do you know what he's talking about? i haven't seen one. have you? >> i haven't, no, it has been a muddled communication and this thing is transitory last april or may. a year later, clearly not transitory. look, it is tougher and a president to get his arms around inflation and there's only so much you can do. todd, here is the bottom line here and so much of our economy is dependent upon the crisis

energy. fuel, right? for the most part fossil fuels. as we have seen those prices double since the president has taken over, really, the president has been dealt a difficult hand here. all of us are paying more and that ripples through with the gas costing more for you and i, carley, the producers to bring stuff to her home, the manufacturer's peer that ripples through the economy. until and when we grapple that energy cost to the ground, we see this inflation stick around. >> gas prices have doubled since president biden has taken office, $4.86 a gallon and inaugural day gas was $2.39 a gallon. biden is blaming v8 but well before russians invasion of ukraine. what is really going on here and how do we get out of this mess? >> good question. also without a doubt the war has something to do with it. carley, you are correct in saying prices were high before
