psychological scars on the american people have gotten people down. fox news poll this week showed that his overall approval rating is way underwater. 57% disapprove of the job the president is doing. lowest rating to date. on the economy 67% disapprove. inflation specifically 71% disapprove. biden rejected criticism his american rescue plan is to blame for inflation telling the wire if it's my fault why is it the case in every other major industrial country in the world inflation is higher? i'm not being a wise guy. data tells another story. the inflation rate in april was one of the highest in the developed world dwarfing others, despot the president's efforts to push oil companies to refine more oil and bring down costs at the pump the white house is not advocateing for more domestic reduction. >> we need them to refine the

unusual. probably something that i would say you could go around. he talks about how great the economy is and his answer is they got 200 million shots in arms. what does that have to do with the question and that's why it is pretty interesting. >> bill: there is this, you could argue with regard to the economy and inflation he said you could argue whether it had a marginal or minor impact on inflation talking about the american rescue plan in march of 2021. i don't think it did. most economists don't think it did. the idea it caused inflation is bizarre. that point will be debated on and on and for history. ken langone was on fox business earlier today and said the fed was behind the curve on all of this. he can take a lot of blame as well but the spending is not outside of reach of this debate. >> dana: people in his own party like larry summers said exactly that. to them it was not bizarre. also this now, a new fox news poll finds a majority of

americans oppose protests happening outside of homes of supreme court justices including most independents. protests following the leak of a draft opinion to overturn roe v. wade. as we await the ruling the f.b.i. now says it is investigating a series of attacks and threats targeting pregnancy centers and faith-based organization across the country. lucas tomlinson with this. >> two days after the house passed the bill president biden signed it into law adding security for the families of supreme court justices around the clock days after that arrest of a california man charged with the attempted murder of justice kavanaugh. there was no reference to the attempted of the attack. >> by passing this bill we're sending a clear message to the left wing radicals. you cannot intimidate the supreme court justices. >> this should not have taken a threat against justice kavanaugh to force action.

a threat that even speaker pelosi dismissed in her press conference. >> not only attacks and increasing protests against the justices but pro-life pregnancy centers where lawmakers have demanded police do more to stop them. the attorney general is asked to resign because there hasn't been investigation. cotton writes if you're unwilling to protect americans you should resign. in my opinion you should resign in any case. the f.b.i. is taking action. in a statement to fox news moments ago the f.b.i. now says it has begun to investigate these crimes. the f.b.i. is investigating a series of threats and attacks toward pregnancy centers and faith baitioned organizations across the country. we'll continue to work closely with all law enforcement partners and remain vigilant to protect our communities, the incidents are being

6:08 am
democrats say it is wrong to protest and threaten a supreme court justice at their own home. that's a pretty widespread sentiment. i think the bigger story is that democrats are divided on this. there are partisanship and majority think it's okay but 35% think it's wrong and that's when the white house sees these numbers it is not going to be good politics for them to defend these protestors especially given some of the violent threats we've heard about in recent days. >> dana: not only that this act is against the law whether you think it should be allowed, it is actually against the law. so you have an attorney general who will not enforce the law and it is not just outside of a supreme court justice's home as you can see for example in kavanaugh and alito and barrett they have a lot of neighbors. the neighbors are suffering as well. here is what nancy pelosi tried to do which dodge a question on

this yesterday. >> they are saying your rhetoric is contributing. >> a woman has a right to choose to live up to her responsibility. it is up to her, her doctor, her family, her husband, her significant other, and her god. this talk of politicizing all of this i think is something uniquely american. >> dana: josh, the breakdown in the rule of law and the enforcement of law. i think that's also driving overall polling numbers that are so low for president biden and for democrats across the country. we're going into this mid-term, as you look across the landscape how are the republicans looking in terms of taking over the house but possibly also the senate. >> it's a great example where democrats may have the advantage on the issue of abortion rights but when you defend these protestors threatening supreme court justices they lose that advantage. so when you look at the overall political environment the

economy, inflation, driving the national environment, republicans think they have a real chance to win the highest number of house seats they've had since 1929 going back to the calvin coolidge administration and look, the numbers are pretty clear. if they get 35 house seats it would give them that historic mark. if they get 29 house seats the highest total of seats since that big 2010 mid-term election. so the economy is driving the malaise we see throughout the country, inflation in particular. republicans are confident that they can set some records in the mid-term elections. >> bill: whacky things could happen in november. look what happened in texas on tuesday. i don't think the results of that special election have been fully digested yet, shall we say, josh. >> the hispanic vote is the second most hispanic district in the entire country and the republican congresswoman elect
6:11 am
won it decisively. even if you don't see the swings we've seen in south texas, if republicans make even small gains with the hispanic voters across the country, there are a ton of battleground distickets that could flip just on that factor alone. >> bill: when she says it is uniquely american to protest she is right. do it in the parking lot. not somebody's lawn. have a good weekend. >> thanks. >> they are letting all these criminals out. if they wouldn't have been out my son and the other officers would still there be. to us it's real life. >> bill: it is reverberating across l.a. and california. grieving mother and sister unleashing their fury after two l.a. cops shot and killed in the line of duty broad daylight. they say george gascon's policy led to the strategy and critics say he has to go.

>> bill: the question who is crossing our southern border. shocking numbers from the southwest. so far this year agents have reported encountering 50 people who are listed on the terror watch list. bill melugin is live in hidalgo, texas with details. what did you find out? >> good morning to you. these are brand-new numbers from cbp and eye opening. under president biden the number of people on the terror watch list arrested by border patrol has shot up significantly compared to
6:18 am
president trump. let's get right into the numbers if we can pull up the graphic. this is for our southern border. brand-new cbp numbers showing arrests on the terrorist screening database so far for fiscal year 2022 with four months left 50 arrests by border patrol on the tsdb. prior to that that's up big over 2021. 15. fiscal year 19 zero, then 6 and 2. you get the picture. the trend the last couple of years the number of these arrests have exploded and there have been 65 already the last couple years. previous four years combined before that there were only 11. case in point, people always trying to sneak into this country. if we can pull up the video we embedded with texas dps a group of runners trying to hop a fence and get away from law enforcement. didn't work out for them. the group of runners arrested by state troopers and border patrol off a nearby highway.
6:19 am
second piece of video we embedded with texas dps troopers in the middle of the night you'll see migrant runners just hiding in the brush all over the place. they shine their lights and start popping out of the brush. numerous runners there arrested as well. then this last piece of video we want to show you a pursuit involving texas state troopers with a human smuggler. one trooper gets behind a guy smuggling at least 10 illegal immigrants and there is a bail-out. the driver bails out and all of the illegal immigrants start bailing out of the vehicle and start running all over the place. the troopers outnumbered. he decides to go after the driver and texas dps tells me he was successful in taking the driver that down and arresting him for human smuggling. highlighting those terror watch list numbers it is extra concerning considering the fact that multiple cbp sources tell me just since october more than 440 known gotaways here at our southern border. you do the math on that and that averages out to 1,800 people slipping past our agents
6:20 am
every day. the question is, who are those people? >> bill: it's unbelievable, bill. how much money we have spent for 20 years to make sure that they do not pass through our airports and get on our airplanes and this could be happening every week. very interesting reporting there. stay on it. i know you will. bill melugin in texas. >> dana: great point. also elon musk addressing twitter employees for the first time since launching his effort to take over thetech giant in a town hall. he emphasized free speech principles saying for the public to have trust in twitter it is extremely important there be transparency. let's bring in cheryl casone host of american dream home on fox business. we would have loved to have been a fly on the wall yesterday. what did you learn? >> get out the popcorn. we know what he said and it is interesting. besides the discussion on aliens that i thought was fascinating, there is this black message board that twitter employees jumped on after the call was over trying
6:21 am
to figure out how can we be exceptional. he said if you want to continue working remotely from home you need to be exceptional at your job. so they are wore eefd about getting fired and staffing cuts. i think there will be. i'm say that right now on the record. obviously he said they have to get the books on the company together. they have to start making money. twitter needs a revenue overhaul. you have to monetize something when you pay $44 billion for it. >> bill: the stock right now is $37 down 20% since the initial offer was made. we'll see what comes of that. two things that were interesting. how many times has the media gotten it right? i would say almost never. not never but almost never clarification added by musk there. he said the standard for twitter should be that people are entertained and informed. think of that. >> i love what he said about if we have 10% of the far left and
6:22 am
10% of the far right angry, i'm fine with that. he also sees a moderate. he talked about his own political stance and he is a moderate. the first time we found out that he voted republican for the first time in his life thanks to him for flores. i love what he talked about. these people are worried about their jobs. i get it. one comes in, it's a takeover. i will happen. it just is. it's the way it works in business but he also said if someone is getting useful things done, that's great. if they're not why are they at the company? he said that to them. he is throwing it out there. >> dana: he has a lot on his plate and one of those is tesla and yesterday they announced the price of a tesla would go up. is that an inflation thing? pull it up. call for number 3. before and after. it's up about $3,000. >> the industry has been hit
6:23 am
overall. not just tesla. i'm not surprised prices will go up. now you have the labor shortage and chip shortage. we're not just talking about inflation at the grocery store. it hits producers as well. the producer price index is the wholesale numbers on fox business and it is the raw materials that companies have to shell out to get what they need. their prices for their materials is up 15 to 20%. any time that a company has raw materials that tesla, for instance, go higher you will have to raise the cost. electric vehicles are not cheap. i'm so sick of hearing that. we're in a gas crisis and democrats are saying i drive a tesla by the gas station. good for you. most people can't afford $65,000 for a model y. >> bill: >> bill: speaking of price.
6:24 am
used cars up 16% and new cars up 12%. a question for you. do you believe that elon musk is publicly negotiating for a lower price? >> absolutely. why wouldn't he? using twitter to do it. >> bill: do you think he will get it? >> yes. yes. because of the bots. i think he is a genius but don't fall for the crazy uncle thing. he knows what he is doing. there is precedent for the layoffs. twitter, he did it at tesla. the h.r. department he did cleaning house there. it was several years ago. he is a shrewd guy. he is not dumb. smoking pot on joe rogan's podcast aside, those bots are the biggest problem. you can't say that you have 200

yesterday. we're below dow 30,000 which we haven't seen now in some time. about a year and a half i would argue, maybe a little more than that. the cries -- the calls for recession are louder, not just here but in other countries. the issue of inflation is significant. not just here but in many parts of the world. we can debate as to whether or not we get the worst of it or others are. nonetheless your pocketbook doesn't look as good today as it did two weeks ago and no telling when we climb out of this. >> dana: 3/4s of the ceos say we're either in a recession or it's coming. >> bill: the economy is on the minds of a lot of americans gas prices and inflation. the headlines out of washington are foixed on the january 6, 2021. the committee held another public hearing yesterday and chad pergram has more from capitol hill. what happened? >> good morning, bill. former federal judge told the

committee that former president trump presented a danger to american democracy even today. but there is also concern about dangerous to the economy. the committee hearings dominate the conversation on capitol hill but voters are pummeling democrats on bread and butter issues. the house passed a bill thursday to try to lower the cost of food and fuel but it is unclear if that connects with voters. >> we don't just do one thing around here. we take an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the united states. we do that every day. but we never take our eye off the ball of the kitchen table issues for america's working families. >> pelosi and schumer met with president biden this week discussed a streamline version of the plan called build back better. republicans are watching. they believe the economy is key for the mid-terms. >> now is not the time to be complacent about stopping the build back better taxes.

6:36 am
he was not happy with the rhetoric. how do you reflect on that now when you think it appears today the only way ukraine can win is if they have a successful insurgency in the southeastern part of the country. otherwise, they are going to lose the war in that aspect. >> i think that president putin has effectively deterred the biden administration from doing all that needed to be done for ukraine to win. i think the greatest provocation that we could ever deliver is if ukraine loses this fight and the biden administration has never provided the aircraft, they provided the rocket systems but only ones with 40 miles of striking capability rather than the 200 miles that ukraine needs. we haven't given them enough howitzer and they need more artillery in the donbas. i would caution everyone.

gay, straight, lesbian, transgender or binary and made people suspicious how the data would be used. they want to spend $10 million to ask the question to get the most honest and accurate numbers. the president of miami beach gay and lesbian chamber of commerce approves of what the census bureau is doing with some cautious hesitation. >> it also happens as a question to be how will they use the information? if it is to make our lives better and create policies within government to help us distribute goods and services for appropriately amongst all of the population bases in the country great. if it will just sit on the shelf, what's the point? >> also comes at a time of political culture war with red state legislators restricting or banning discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

rows of flowers, wreaths and flags surround pictures as folks come to terms with what they've lost. no one knows that pain more than the families of the officers. they can't get past why the suspect who had previously been arrested on felony gun and drug charges was given such a lenient sentence by george gascon's office. >> gascon is letting all these criminals out and they just keep doing one crime after the other. that guy should have been in jail. he wouldn't have been out. my son and the other officer would still be here. now we're just left to suffer because they are never coming back. to everyone else this is a news story but to us it's real life. >> the suspect flores had already served time roughly 10 years ago for car theft and burglary. was arrested and charged with felony drug and gun charges in 2020. facing almost three years in

prison but after gascon took over as d.a. a special directive pushed prosecutors to offer probation and plea deals. we asked gascon's office about that and told us in part, quote, experienced managers in the office have reviewed the facts of the case and the criminal history of mr. flores and determined that this offer was on par with previous administrations. they go on to say they challenge their prosecutors to challenge those special directives if special circumstances arise. they say in this case that didn't happen. >> dana: it didn't. it took a lot of courage for any woman to call in an abusive allegation and it was not followed up on. it is terrible. >> bill: lawrence jones host of cross-country. a couple details. rap sheet 2009 two prison terms for burglary and car theft. prohibited from carrying a gun.

7:04 am
now is it's not just criminal justice reform. we want to empty the prison. there should only be a maximum of 20 years even if you commit murder. soros and holders of the world believe people should be out. these cops didn't have to die. these women didn't need to be victimized. burglaries didn't need to happen. drugs wouldn't be sold on the street. we can do something about this and then you have all the progressives that talk about gun control. when you have d.a.s across the country that let people out who are known felons with guns. don't give us when there is a big national tragedy that somehow you want to change your perspective on the matter when every day you release people back on the street with guns who are known criminals. it is just crazy to me. >> dana: it has led to many -- big increase in the line of duty deaths. we have that number for you
7:05 am
here but also i thought this quote from the spokesperson for police was telling. criminals feel free to engage in crime. you see videos on tiktok and instagram. criminals have no fear of the police, security guard or store manager, none of that. that's where you feel the breakdown in the rule of law that society is not sustainable. >> it's the rule of law and now you have progressives, elected officials across the country calling for the national guard and the local communities. it's not the job of the national guard to secure communities. cops don't want to do the jobs anymore. they can't fill police academies. they are demonized, outgunned on the street and if they were to get in a fire fight and the suspect with the gun shoots at them and they shoot back and kill him they're on trial. everybody believes and have had these conversations over and over again. when there is a bad cop what should we do? but we're not having a

conversation about the bad criminals that are on the street that continue to victimize communities all over the country. >> bill: just a point on that. he was a known gang member. so the judge probably had that information, right? had the bare minimum sentence with no jail time. the l.a. county deputy d.a. jonathan hunt who has been on our show said he should have been in custody for at least 32 months. that's more than 2 1/2 years. he went home that day. >> all these local d.a.s want to do their job. gascon and the part that gets me, he was a former police chief. he is law enforcement. now he has changed all of a sudden and he doesn't believe in -- he is a guy that you would think would have the back of the cops. i'll say this because we talk about, you know, what's happening in new york and we think because these people were former law enforcement. it's the same thing with adams,
7:07 am
right? he talks a big game but he knows that the d.a. is directly responsible for what's happening and so what do you see right now? poll numbers are shrinking. you don't get to run on a mandate to keep the streets safe and do nothing about it. people are tired of the showboating. they're tired of the press conference. they're tired of we got them. they didn't get them. this guy turned himself in after victimizing people on a subway. they're sick of it. >> bill: he is on the clock and his policies. see what he can do. with regard to l.a. we talked to a lot of people whether or not the recall is going to work. i'm not so sure. i have think it is 50/50 right now based on what's happening. >> we'll see. >> bill: thank you. >> dana: fox news alert here senator tom cotton calling on attorney general garland to resign for failing to respond to a string of attacks targeting churches and pro-life pregnancy center. jane's revenge claims to have

without proper medical diagnosis are receiving prescriptive services from the school system and not staffing the teachers we need and their focus is completely off. >> dana: how did the supporters of this idea describe their intentions last night? >> i believe they have good intentions. they don't want to see their children harmed or harassed to any way. i believe as parents we all love our children so much and want a great education for them. we can all agree we don't want our kids harmed or harassed. we already have many anti-bullying policies in our school district and the state of virginia to address those things. this policy goes way beyond that and into promoting and indoctrinateing and mandating compelling speech actually violating first amendment speech rights forcing children as young as 5 years old to be responsible for their peer's

7:22 am
psychologists. they need to speak up more robustly and strongly that this is developmentally inappropriate. they aren't taught with a pronoun is in kindergarten and one and two. >> dana: thank you for letting us know what happened. appreciate it. >> thank you. >> bill: so we're 22 past the hour and only minutes away from an update on the deadly church shooting in alabama. at least two killed and one injured. we'll get you there in a moment here. plus the stock market is limping to the close of what is a brutal week. the fed trying to get a handle on inflation. was the fed late? are we heading for a recession? are we already there? steve moore and austan goolsbee are on deck for our friday money team.

7:32 am
>> well, the fed is raising interest rates at an aggressive rate trying to prevent inflation, expectations from ratcheting up. you have to say there is the risk of recession for the economy when the fed is in a rate-raising environment like that. and contrary to what charles payne said there i'm friendly with charles and we have a good time together. but contrary to his views, government spending was mostly concentrated in 2021. if your view is too much stimulus caused inflation, we're going to have the biggest drop in the deficit ever in the history of the united states, as all of those programs run off. so i think the fed is going to have a difficult spot to watch here. and it is important to emphasize this is happening in every country of the world. if in your mind you think it is some u.s. policy that is
7:33 am
causing inflation, you really have to kind of explain why is there the highest inflation in 40 years all over the globe? >> bill: thank you for that. steve, where are we today and where are we going? >> we're in a recession right now unfortunately. it started probably in early june. you are seeing it in every indicator. i don't want to be a debbie downer here. i'm usually a happy warrior. we've lost $10 trillion in the stock market. manufacturing report and housing report that came out yesterday were really troublesome, big declines. you just see drying up of investment right now. we are in a recession and it was really i think a result of that $3 trillion of spending that was poured into the economy last year. by the way, trump also poured a lot of debt into this economy and so now we have a situation where we've got to reverse course. i do believe that this kind of war on american oil and gas --
7:34 am
i do agree with charles that, you know, if you go back to the campaign, you look at the people that biden has put in place in the agencies that all have said they want to bankrupt the oil and gas industry and you know the answer to this, bill. the first act of this administration was to kill the keystone xl pipeline. that set the tone for an administration that wanted to declare war on american oil and gas and it shows. >> bill: in the meantime larry summers is saying recession in two years. steve moore is saying right now. active debate as to what the status of that is effectively. we know what -- how progressives feel about this president and his policies. we played the clip from charles payne. the far left applauding joe biden. >> on the economy and the issues confronting the american people, joe biden is doing a very good job under difficult circumstances. >> one of the things i think the president did positively this week is start to take on
7:35 am
the big oil and gas companies for profiteering. >> president biden has done a very good job so far but needs to do more to hold these oil and gas companies accountable. >> bill: austan, i don't know how you sell that to people filling up their trucks and minivans and cars this weekend and paying $120 to do it and get around. >> i agree with you, bill. i am a little puzzled by the clips, though, that you just played there. aoc made headlines by saying that she was not ready to endorse joe biden in 2024 and she didn't know if she supported him. so to portray it like the left is strongly endorsing of biden's policies overall i think might be a little bit of exaggeration. i think the -- i think your point is very well taken that when the price of gas in some places here in chicago is over
7:36 am
$6 a gallon, and you still have got war going on in ukraine and the world price of oil is as high as it is so that all the countries of the world are dealing with this energy crisis, any policies that people perceive to be driving up the price of energy are going to be extremely unpopular and they are unpopular. now, i think the facts, it's the world price and the price is high in all the countries around the globe suggest it is not what the u.s. did. >> when you reduce the supply. we should be at 15 million barrels a day. that's the course we were on under trump. we're obl at 11 million barrels today. we're way below where we should be. you had 12 nobel prize economists, people who i respect like austan and so many others, they all said last year
7:37 am
there would be no inflationary effect from the spending bills. now we have the worst inflation in 40 years. they were wrong, wrong, wrong. we need a whole new economic agenda and start cutting spending and reducing taxes, getting rid of the regulations and building out our energy supply and our pipelines and our refineries. we haven't built a refinery in this country in 20 years? the radical left won't allow us to do it. this is the result of bad policies by biden and i don't see any kind of change in policy from him, bill, i really don't. >> bill: there is plenty of time to discuss this in the future. we're stuck on stuck. i don't know how we get out of this corner and a lot of pain going around. steve moore and austan goolsbee, thank you as well. >> dana: american taxpayers are on the hook to pay for the upkeep on maintenance and seized russian super yachts. how did that happen?

u.s. crackdown against russian oligarchs. they've seized yachts and other things. according to jake sullivan it is costing us taxpayers a pretty penny. these comments were captured on a hot mic saying. you know what the craziest thing is when we seize one we have to pay for the upkeep. the federal government pays for upkeep. some people are basically being paid to maintain russian super yachts on behalf of the united states government. >> bill: u.s. state department now saying that three americans are missing after going to fight with ukrainians against russia's invasion by vladimir putin. 39-year-old drooky and a 27-year-old missing this week after fighting in ukraine. a third u.s. serviceman is also missing. no confirmation they're being held by russia. steve harrigan live in ukraine.
7:46 am
>> families of two of the three americans are speaking out saying they haven't had contact in the past week. two of these three are former u.s. service members. the 39-year-old was a former army staff sergeant and the 27-year-old a former marine corporal. it is supposed that these were taken by the russians in heavy fighting around the city of kharkiv. the third person unknown at this point. these three americans some of the thousands who have come to ukraine to fight on behalf of ukraine. if they have been captured by the russians the big question is what happens to them next? will they be treated as prisoners of war? so far the precedent is not good. russians have captured two brits and a moroccan. russian officials have said these are not prisoners of war, they're terrorists and sentenced them to death. they have not yet been carried out. bill, back to you.

>> bill: thanks, steve. >> why is the president saying that inflation is worse everywhere but here? >> first of all inflation is a global challenge. >> he says inflation is worse everywhere but here. that's not true. >> what -it is not just about the united states. everyone is feeling it because of coming out of once in a lifetime pandemic. because of the war that russia has started in ukraine. >> dana: white house press secretary facing pushback as she defends the president's claims about inflation. that's not the only issue being challenged by the press. joe concha, we could talk to you all day about the president's talking to a.p. the statement he is making. the claim is out there for two weeks and it's not the numbers wez. inflation in the u.s. versus other countries as you

can see is 8.6% for the u.s. germany is 7.9. japan 2.5. india 7.4 and on and on. i feel like, joe, if you are the white house press secretary and know that pushback is coming, you should have -- is there other data that we don't see? you should bring something. they don't. they keep saying it and they keep getting pushback and you don't get anywhere. >> peter doocy is the only one pushing back. i would think other reporters would say wait a minute. china's inflation is 2.1%. four times lower than the u.s. china, saudi arabia, japan, switzerland, indonesia, and many others are all lower than the united states. that took me 14 seconds to look up on google, right? so when the administration

intentionally misleads the american people as it is trying to do here. remember what they said about build back better. it will lower inflation and the deficit. 31 flavors of stupid. how could that possibly be? they tried to sell it that way because they think the media will go along with it. thankfully we have a peter doocy asking the questions. >> bill: this interview of the president, i think the reporter was recording it but not released to the public. you printed it out and it runs 13 pages. this is a meandering conversation. some of the logic kind of leap frogs over other aspects of the conversation. sometimes it is hard to follow. and maybe, joe, this is the reason why we have not seen him do a one-on-one interview on a tv camera in four months. >> that's true.
7:50 am
thank you for putting it that way. i won't count jimmie kimmel in that 24 minutes as an actual interview. associated press that's an actual interview. this president is seen as too old, too incompetent and too slow to react to crises. you can never compare him to ronald reagan or barack obama ever having the ability to articulate a persuasive argument. the bottom line he is on the losing side of every argument. you can try to spin it all you want and be the most persuasive person in the world. you can't spin inflation or gas prices and people feel unsafe in cities and suburbs and millions of people are crossing the border illegally. more importantly fentanyl is coming into this country at record numbers and killing a record number of americans particularly young ones. when you don't have the arguments on your side you have to spin and he is not good at it. >> dana: what happened this week the media started to turn

real service for people. what is it you are trying to accomplish and let people know? >> i think when it comes to navigating the chip shortage we have to realize car buying has changed so much over the past two years. it used to be go to the lot on saturday and saturday afternoon you're driving out in your car. with inventory shortages being so tight customers are waiting 6 to 8 months before taking delivery of any vehicle. my biggest advice for navigating this is to start the process early and that's the message i want people to learn. you can't wait until the last minute because your options will be severely limited. >> bill: you say there has been 2.2 million cars cut from production this year. that's a lot. i think eventually that affects jobs, too, right, kelly? >> absolutely. it is really affecting every aspect of the auto industry and you know, we're not sure when it will get better, either. >> dana: i want to ask you something about this.
7:58 am
apparently as your research has shown sometimes a car manufacturer will say we can deliver this car to you but it usually would come with heated seats or steering wheel but it won't have it this time because there aren't enough chips. >> the average vehicle takes 13 to 1500 chips. if you've been in a new vehicle recently they're driving computers. what manufacturers have had to do to make sure we can at least get some cars on the road is remove some features. some are removing features entirely or rearranging trim levels. maybe the features you got on a base vehicle is there for the highest and they deliver the customer card without the feature with the promise to send to chips to be put on at a later date. >> bill: wow. this might last into the year 2024. that's hard to think that far down the line. there are deals to be had. >> yeah.
7:59 am
>> bill: where would that be? >> again, i think if you can start the process early enough you can negotiate the price of a new car. the best deals right now is in the used car market and trade in. new car inventory is tight. they have had to compensate with used cars. it rose 30 to 40% in the price of a used vehicle. for the consumer you have a lot more negotiation power in your trade and you better get top dollar. if you are not getting money off the price of their car you need to get 30 to 40% more on your car. >> dana: do you think the united states has done enough to try to figure out the chip shortage to make more chips in america rather than relying on unreliable supply chains? >> i think we still have a lot of work to be done and see manufacturers come together a little more insatisfied of one brand trying to figure out how to get their chips.

i think that has caused a lot of the issues. >> dana: people need to follow the car mom. >> bill: plan ahead. thanks. st. louis, missouri knows her stuff, right? >> dana: i agree. >> bill: i had something before we go but ill -- i'll save it until monday. >> dana: gas cards. they can't do them because there aren't enough chips. that is not going to work. >> bill: enjoy your weekend and you enjoy your weekend. lawrence jones is in for harris today. here is lawrence. see you on monday. >> fox news alert. political violence and the fear of it exploding in america. illegal protests continue outside supreme court justice's homes as we wait for an opinion on roe v. wade. pro-life groups and crisis pregnancy centers are under attack. i'm lawrence jones in for harris "the faulkner focus" today. a bill increasing security for justices and their families getting the president's approval passed in the senate weeks ago. the signing
