the late show team they overstayed their welcome. busted by u.s. capitol police. in a statement cbs says the production team came to capitol hill to do interviews for a comedy segment to insult comedy dog. he is also known for his work on a saturday night live tv fun house animated shorts. cbs said the interviews were prearranged with congressional offices. fox was told on thursday morning they interviewed one committee members adam schiff and stephanie murphy. it is not on the committee. capitol police shooed the group away from the 16 committee area they do not have proper press protect credentials where they requested weeks ago but the tv gallery denied them credentials because their comedy not news but at some point the group left the house office building fox told the team aid sometime after

4:00 p.m. thursday told the aide they thought they had more interviews to do. the team remained in the house office building unescorted for hours. they were scored after closed they can brown 8:30 p.m. eastern time. they are the office of gop colorado representative. capitol police they arrested seven people and charged them with unlawful entry. in a statement capitol police say quote the building was closed to visitors. these individuals were determined to be part of a group that had been directed by the capitol police to leave the building earlier in the day. this comes after the one/six committee release a video of georgia represented giving what the panel surveillance tools. one day head of the riot last year. republicans now claim they have no leg to stand on when it comes to capitol security.

to inspect the damage that things went terribly wrong. that happened around 3:30 a.m. in the morning put a witness describes the scene. >> the fire was contained they did not think the fires going to come down -- make the building was going to come down. i didn't think that, no one did. fire was contained in there during their investigation, looking for hotspots and unfortunately i guess there's no building on each side the building collapsed for. >> five firefighters in a city building inspector became trapped in the rubble. officials say the incident claimed the life of one of those firefighters who'd serve the department for 27 years. >> it is a sad day for the philadelphia fire department. unfortunately our department lost a member bravely fighting a fire and was caught in a building collapsed after the fire was over. >> the other trapped firefighters were taken to the hospital. all of them reported in stable

struggle and in many cases to pay for basics. fox's contributor jon bussey joins us editor at the wall street journal. they say the highest inflation rate in decades, john, you think what the fed is doing will be enough? >> are going to have to do more in the fed has said that. they are expecting another rate increase and possibly at the same level, eric 75 basis points which is notable. as early as next month. and rates are expected to continue to increase through 2022 into 2023 paid what are they trying to do was to mark their raising interest rates of borrowing costs go up and the intent is to slow the economy to reduce economic activity. which will bring inflation down. now, you are arty seeing some effects for the rate increases we have had to date. for example in may, industrial production, manufacturing, home construction, retail sales, wage increases and the savings rate of homeowners all either dropped

or slowed in their growth. you are seeing the effect of the higher interest rates. that has led some banks to lower their economic expansion rate forecast for the second quarter calendar quarter of this year. j.p. morgan for example dropped its to 2.5% on an annual basis from three-point to five per that is a pretty substantial drop. uc also now, eric, really critical factor. consumer sediment has dropped to the lowest level since records began to be kept by the university of michigan which does the survey in the 1940s. one of our journal reporters has a story on this. so interest rates increases are having an effect. eric: when you think of the chances of a recession? >> huge debate is it? this is hard for the fed to get this right. you have got 23 trillion-dollar economy. it is like imagining the huge

cargo ships that are steaming through the pacific and throwing the engines into reverse. it takes miles for those ships to ultimately stop for the u.s. economy is kind of similar. they are trying to get it right. not much too much cooling but just the right amount for a soft landing. you may get what you want. you may get a cooling but it might go too far which would mean there is a recession. there's probably as many economists at this point read about at recession that believe we won't have one. eric: the inflation rate to see on the screen are high in other countries at the top there. jon, how much of this is due to president biden's policies? >> this is another big point of debate. i think the fed is pushing against the summit headwinds not of its own creation for the u.s. economy's creation. yes, this is a very strong

economy for this a lot of pent-up demand from the pandemic that is still playing through. the consumer is robust they are out there and they are spending pretty also have a pandemic that is ongoing. we are still the middle of it causing labor shortages, people are calling in sick, airline pilots -- making factories closing in china creating the supply disruptions that we have been talking about now for months. and they continue to push prices higher because they reduce supply. you also have the war in ukraine it's pushed up commodity prices oil and wheat and other commodity. some of this might have been the last stimulus program that 1.9 trillion that the biden administration password mind to the previous administration passed $3 trillion in stimulus. they were both administrations trying to keep people employed. and trying to keep food on the table for workers. that might have been inflationary. the fed even said that at the end of last year. but they considered it

short-term inflation. these bigger forces at work are causing the kind of inflation that we have now. eric: the president blames the gas prices on the war in ukraine. he blames vladimir putin and the oil companies themselves does not hold water to you? >> it is always great politically to blame big business. you are never going to not get points for that. but you also have to blame a global economy that got knocked back on its feet and is standing up again and huge demand amid constraint supplies. russia is a large oil exporter. and now for reasons that the democratic nations are fighting russia with these sanctions european countries are cutting back on purchases of a russian oil. the u.s. has. and as a result prices go up everywhere else they are chasing saudi oil they are chasing u.s. oil for their purchase.

those big forces in pandemic still are notable in the fed's consideration of what to do about inflation. but the good side is, it's sad to say slowing economies a good sign. it's a good sign in terms of fighting inflation. in some of the steps taken by the fed are having an effect. eric: and finally, how long do you think these increases are going to last? we did see gas prices for a wild decrease. then going back out. when you think they'll get a handle on this and it will stabilize? >> inflation picked up again in may did not? that was a bad sign. the rate increases are expected to continue into 2023. which says the fed believes the inflation problem is going to continue into 2023. you may see some moderation of this in the coming months. but it is going to take some time to slow down that big container ship in the middle of

charles mcgee died earlier this year at the age of 102 years old. joint chiefs of staff chairman mark mehling attended the service which included a military flyover. mcgee had a long and distinguished career completing more than 400 air combat missions across the span of three wars all overcoming racial barriers. he was aware the nations highest civilian honor the congressional gold medal in 2007. in 2011 he was enshrined in the national aviation hall of fame. mcgee was 102 years old when he passed away peacefully in his sleep on january 16. we salute you sir and thank you and all americans thank you. new iphone 13.
