>> carley: motel shooting left two california cops dead last week. corporal and officer responding to report of a possible stabbing. the officers were both shot when they walked into the room. flores shot another sergeant while attempting to escape before taking his own life. gascon defending the light sentence given to flores for a prior charge that allowed him to be on the streets. the mother of one of the fallen officers joined us yesterday calling for george gascon's recall after she said george gascon cost her son his life. >> he's destroyed so many lives and completely destroyed ours, we are devastated.

>> carley: preparations are underway for the memorial service for the officers, they were remembered as brave men and heroes at their vigil this weekend. new york republicans calling out -- >> ashley: calling out governor hokul for letting criminals back on the street. a suspect stole a vehicle and nearly dragged new york detectivive ryan hines to his death. the criminal had a lengthy rap sheet before he was let out on the street. >> carley: steve, great to have you on, thank you for joining us, love to hear how detective hines is doing right now and i think we should start with the basics, what are bail reform laws on the books and what do you think they should be?

>> steve: we have to start with complete withdrawal to start with. you can't unscramble the egg. democrats implemented bail reform without what the effects would be. we are seeing effects, putting police officers at risk, created pandemic of lawlessness, which is self-inflicted and citizens are less safe. we need to scrap bail reform and start with responsible reform to bail laws. >> ashley: do you think the situation with officer hines could have been prevented with difference reform or cashless bail? >> steve: no question about it, the suspect was a serial car jacker who four days previously was in police custody. simply our police officer was

doing ryan hines was doing good police work and encountered the suspect, attempted to get him out of the vehicle. the individual drove away and steered toward police officer hines with the police officer being drug behind and pinned beneath his vehicle, almost cost him his life. he would not have been on the street if not for cashless bail and for criminal justice reforms, that solely falls on the shoulders of prior governor andrew cuomo, hochul and democrats that control the legislature. >> carley: the law on the books now, if charged with a misdemeanor, you are essentially not going to jail at all. majority of crimes committed in new york and nationally are by repeat offenders and a lot of times it affects criminals of

color the most. what is the conversation like and do you think something could get done to change this? >> steve: bottom line, i don't think you will change what comes out of albany until you change who we send to albany. we have an opportunity this year to elect new governor and to the assembly, there is no inclination on the governor or majority in either house to lead on this issue. they have enacted a pro-criminal agenda, which is making us less safe. new york city statistics show 3000 repeat offenders committed 900 new crimes in nassau county. crime increased major crimes by 66%. we've had increase of 166% in stolen vehicles, a 60's %

youngkin's win that was huge deal for the state and fired up parentss in loudoun county started a movement against critical race theory. should it really be considered a blue state? >> there is a lot of momentum in virginia. the house and senate, run by democrats, they got what they wanted in virginia. voters woke up and last november was referendum on that and we saw momentum flipping the state house, same momentum will carry us through this year and win is at our back, we feel great about it. virginia voters care about education and we saw the

mental health problems. i turn to those that are the politicians and d.a.s and ask them why are you encouraging this? what is the benefit to you and to your people and communities soft on courtroom and aiding and abetting drug abuse. what is the benefit? it makes no sense to me. that the question that needs to be asked. people like george soros pumping money into activist d.a.s that are is only worsening this problem? what is the end goal here? that's what we need to ask. i don't think any america understands what is going on. why they are doing it and why people continue to vote for people allowing their cities to be run like this. something has to change and it start with your vote. >> absolutely starts with your vote. that's why we talk to voter panels today in virginia and one of the issues that everybody talks about even those who are living in a safe areas are crime. and when you talk about crime, tomi, it was like appealing back layers of an onion where first we thought that the reason there was spike in crime had to do with defund the police. and then the focus of attention

turned into the liberal prosecutors that are really acting like defense attorneys. and then we started learning about the judges that were handing out these really soft on crime sentences. so, with all of those forces working against victims, do you have any hope that the situation in this country will get any better? >> i think we are going to see a lot of things change in november because the voters are going to make it change, carley, i ask you, when we look at all those things that you mentioned, all the problems that are plain of day, i go back to my original question, why is this happening? why are these politicians, even though they have a d behind their name, why are they advocating for these things that don't make their communities or people suffering their communities any safer? we have to get to the why of it and they have to be pressed on this on a daily basis. this needs to be election issue. i understand wanting to coddle those that are addicted to drugs or have mental health issues or even felons that you want to give a second chance. not to the detriment of the decent, hardworking average americans in these cities who don't feel safe walking around
