>> jesse: we were told by a lot of smart people that ukraine had a pretty decent chance of beating russia. the media and the politicians painted it as a story of david and goliath. the ukrainians just needed a little help and billions of dollars of american military aid and weapons. and those sanctions were supposed to hit putin right where it hurt. but as the months went by, the media coverage has slowed. the cash flow didn't stop at least 54 billion since march yet, ukraine, who we were told had a shot to win this thing is slowly losing this war rush has taken over much of the east and south today they broke through the front lines of the last major city in a key province, which happens to contain valuable minerals. as for the weapons, we paid for? well, russia released video they say showing them blowing up our howitzers. weren't these the weapons that were supposed to save ukraine? were they even enough?

can't do the kinds of things that it has done in ininvestigating ukraine. so, it has already lost a lot of military capability, and a lot of it troops quite frankly. >> jesse: america's agenda to take down putin is basically going to make this war go on, i don't know, indefinitely? thousands of civilians have been killed and nearly 20% of the country's population has fled. how long can this go on? nato's chief said this war can last years. were we told that? are we going to fund it for years, too? lieutenant colonel daniel davis is a senior fellow at the defense priorities. you know, listen, i was for the sanctions i was for the armament but i think we all know at this point this is a proxy war to bleed russia dry. i don't know how effective that is going to be at all. and what's the cost to the country of ukraine?

do you see any way ukraine can turn this thing around? i guess it's possible but it's got to be a long shot, right? >> >> you know, jesse, i don't even think it's a long shot. when you look at the military fundamentals, just what has historically always been the difference between winning and losing, when you look at the balance of power especially the forces on the ground they are overwhelmingly in favor of russia. there is no rational basis upon which to hope that the war can turn around because russia is methodically move through and destroying ukrainian armed forces. more than capturing territory defend the country anywhere else. pledged not less shown up, it's barely a tenth of what would be the minimum necessary and when you look at those two things right there alone, there is no rational path to to a victory to ukraine, therefore even the path
