that was so that was some those lyrics certainly was.le yeah.y: he flipped the phraseip the thy will to name two different things and he absolutely nailedl it. so w we thank him for what he dd well as well. we are>> w soe thankful that you spent your fourth of julyju weekend with us. happy independence day. ,and happy birthday america. hello, happy in the green zone ,along with paul kelly mcinerney, joey jones. and we are thrilled to be joining you for this fourth headquarters in new york. wswhere we are celebrating
10:01 pm
america. two hundred and forty six birthday. we have so w many wonderful stories to bring to you tonight to display the very best ofal our country. we talked to folks from all across the usa about being an american and what july 4th means. that's right. t i take a trip downo to nashville and sit down with a country artist and very special guest that will include an exclusive live musical performance tonight that you do not want to miss y. and i will take you to new haven, connecticut for a festive independence day celebration. we will hear fromwe americans on the streets of new york tonight at the site of the macy's fireworks show. and get this later tell failure. he's going to joinmy us .. you know, it will be a good time and this is special. we're going to go to and i'm ready foret from washington, d.. for the breathtaking parade there. and i go back to my stomping grounds and you're not with my unit, which i can't wait for you guys to see. and of course, there will bee a lot of fireworks fromio our nation's capital tonight. wensns will salute the red, whie and blue are freedom and all
10:02 pm
that we love aboute this country. but before we begin, we do want to take a moment to t send our thoughts and prayers to highland park, illinois. pa celebration of our great a suspect opened fire on their july 4th parade. six people have lost theirer lives. twenty four others are recovering from their injuriesin . we know now that the 22 year old gunman was taken intoan custody within the last hour after a short police pursuit. o thankfully, we are one step let's take a moment let's take a moment t to be grateful for what we have and hold our loved ones close.he tonight is the night to set aside our differences and find unity in our patriotism and unity and our patriotism. i absolutely love that . you know, lawrence, every time you hear about something like this happening, it's a shock. it's horrific. and then you start to see the images of the victimshe in their beautiful faces and it just becomes an absolute gut punch because they were doing w
10:03 pm
the right thing. they were celebratinght our country. co they woke up excited to celebrate with their families t and make a memory, a lasting memory and something like this happens, you just have to wonder where does that leave us ? the celebration will go on . we will not honor the shooter here .nt i think it's important to honors the victims as well as to talk about all those images that we're getting, the fantastic stories that we got when evil was there.e there were people within the crowd that made makeshift tourniquetsow until lawle enforcement were able bare to rescue the people and give them to the hospitalhe. as a result of that , we havesa innocent lives that were saved as a result ofve. o but we also have to remember that the gunman wanted to distracttrac from this day. he wanted the celebrations to w stop. that we remembered today. that's why we will say his name. we won't continuepu to put his image out there. we will celebrate this great country. we will celebrate the innocence th and remember their remarkable lives here today. but we alsoivbu continue to
10:04 pm
celebrate our service members as well as all the great i stories that make america great. i think that's important tonight . n' h not to let him get thebu glory, but the show must go on g while still honoring thoseat victims that we lost . that's that same bravery that really brave people always show their true colors or in times of terror and tragedy. kelly , what are your thoughts right now ifed you -- you know, i went to a fourth of july celebration yesterday in new haven, connecticut. as i mentioned, terdew and i sawe families coming out with theirom picnic basket and screaming atdy 5:00 p.m. you know, they're ready for fireworks. they're getting their hours early. and you just sawrs the joyis on their faces. many you know, it's their one of their few days off from work and ii just imagine this parade. highland park, illinois,ll your streaming in and then mayhem ensues. and one mom said shee was ue there with her son . this happened. shehen hears the gunshots. she tried to break into a local store. she couldn't get into the local store. so she found l an alley when there was a break in the shooting, ran to the alley, put her son in a dumpster to
10:05 pm
protect him and walked past bodies. you i know that this is hard to hear, but this was the reality on fourth of july for these people. but to your point, lawrence,l we're going to remember these victims is white americanoe heroes who showed up in thats home. absolutely. and you know, one of the unfortunate things that happens, joey, after y. a tragedy like this is it tendse to divide us even more than ite does unite us . you know, politicians go to politicians, things we're not politicians, so we're not going. to do those things. of terrorism, plain and simple. and terrorists try to use evil and hurt people to distract us and to stopus us from from celebrating what is important to us . so it's not a show. much goes on . >> o it is a this country will o on and we're going to celebrate it. absolutely. >> wand staying with the theme f unity and politics, some of the moments that stick out the most to me when you think about the recent history of our country, our moments of unity, when the left and thehe right come together, one of
10:06 pm
the things that sticks out the most. do you remember when m nancy pelosi and paul ryan came together after the congressional baseball game? shooting? i think that those moments really speak to peoplee becausea they're good, they'rend unexpected and they're also decent. they got. most americans are somewhere in the middle. they're not tooey far to the let or not too far to the right.ht and we. do like seeing those moments of unity that we're going to be talkingg about all these fantastic stories ofutmi great americans coming up.let'sk let's talk about some ofom our heroes, our great americans that we celebrate. joey, who is your favorite hero ? yes,s, i want to say about brigadier general james stewart or some of you might know after jimmy stewart, this is a man that served in world war two. he served in vietnamd . he lost his son in vietnam. son he served in the united states armyviet, in air corps for i thk almost 40 years, almost 50 years. i can't remember the number off top of my head. what's so amazing? his real quick story is that jimmy stewart was too skinny to
10:07 pm
so he went to the studio weight lifter at his job fornd moviesht and said, hey, i need to gainhe weight for a role. got g 20 poundsst on insteadea f going to the movie, he went to the recruiter's office with world war two. we need those people back and we need them in hollywood. we need them everywhere.e and those ared the kind of people we want to celebrate. a lifelong republican, too, and a friend of ronaldnd reagan. so who's your favorite americanb ? i've got to go with billy graham and i say that ,lly you know, i called him he advised every pastor going back to world war two. and what comes to mind is george w. bush. he said this about billy g graham. billy graham has beenraee george bush rather. m billy graham has been an inspiration in my life. it's my firm belief that nont one can be president withoutun understanding the power of prayer, without faith in billy o graham helped me understand that you can't overestimate what this manre has done foror history. faith is the h steady thread that runs through the history is at the center of it.t. we'll go next .ck multilabel.
10:08 pm
our hero is frederick douglass tattooed on the right side of my arm. so often people want to air their grievances on the fourth of july. the 4th o and frederick douglass famously gaveas g a speech what , the foh of july being to the and talked about how he lovedd the country. but t he also wanted the country to live up tois value system, which is often what we hear today. often people just want to criticize, say america's, that america is not that there t are evil people. there are people that do not live up to its founding documents. we talked about earlier in the show we had a bad american that homen innocent americans. after we celebrate the good of america, we want america toin live up to its founding documents. but we love but this country. that's what we're going to be celebrating all night today. and kalighat specialist, somebody named ronald reagan. well, yeah. yeah, definitely conservative legend, the great communicator, somebody who stood for family values, states rights, deregulation, lower taxes, a
10:09 pm
and it really does feel like wee are to do a duplicate time to the carter administration right now where you have somebody in the white house saying don't worry about energy foror a sweater on . so t maybe there will be a repet ofan a reagan come next presidential term. we're going to have to waito and see on that one . so my favorite american is ronald reagan, but also dolly parton. carly dolly parton because she she she's a perfect person. she's so talented. yes. yes. and going back to unity, i mean, she doesn't get political. she's just somebody that everybody can love. she is a real americanan. best thing about dolly parton if you go to dollywood, which i grew up visiting not far from me, she has the cabin she grew up in that she moved dollywoodho . showsws you that she hastt not forgotten where she cameensh from. she she does things like she has a program where she sends books to schools like so many things i do and you know what ?n't kn i don't know what politics are. no, butov i do know she loves
10:10 pm
people and she cares about the joe biden. no one says a lot about dolly is i've met her twice. i mean, i like don imus assistant. she came to fox news. and the first time that i metxp her , i didn't even expectec her to be in so early in thebu morning. but there she was, fullt w makp . so i turned the corner and she like i almost run into her and h she goes, hey, there, girl has a girl from new jersey been called a cowgirl quite like that . and i love her . . there's also something that happens every fourth of july that we, of course, havek to talk about it and it is the nathan's hot dog eating contestn .c it is an iconic american tradition. or gross. joey chestnut won again and then something very interesting. happy. well, janice, the judges, she judges. but did you see mad hot dog eating contest? joey chestnut mouth movement with a protester in a headlock
10:11 pm
it was it was an like an animal rights deal was reached real or the other even like a half figure for brought him over to god class. he just started stuffing hot dogs again. like you got to watch those joeys. they always got a animal rights. protesters are trying to keepev up with the climate changery doing make it like, wait, wait. we need attention to write. >> one thing about this is i can't watch it. i had it on oh i , i listen to the commenter right there. he is doing what he does. he the sixty three i believe he's the fifteenth 15% where do they go. >> can't cali's being so modest because she's so fit you would think do she doesn't thi she win the time. so joey and i hosted foxas and friends first all week last week and one morninghe he brougt donuts. th i coulde have kissed you on the cheek. well, when you wake up that early morning, go to our go. right. listen, you and i didn't get any donuts.
10:12 pm
these were just donuts.iv they were like individual cakes. donuts would sprinkle isn't all that good. so you have donuts,ff by the wa? i don't remember the name of the place it was. it was record player. what actually check>> a memory for me.n when i was in high school i waso in an eating competitionn.. it was like, you know, just among friends. but somebody beat me. they saidi, i bet you can't eat twenty white castle burgers in an hour. and i went to get a burger are like the one like side go . that's why i didn't want to go . >> i so i go but i didn't. pi grew up in a house where we all hated my grandmother's house with my two uncles, my dad, me, i eating contest every time i had room to get a plate before everybody. so it was an eating contest every not just to get dinner believe. what do you white castle. i don't know but i love it. horrible. yes. who let's go to christinais coleman who is standing by in manhattan . christina, what are o americans out there in the big? apple tonight ? i can tell you millions of

10:26 pm
they go through a whole storehouse of 16 hour days for a month straight and then from that hundreds of people would take about 15 or 20 people from that very taxing in the background of we also know the routine at least three to four times before we even come out and do the performance. so no mistakes are made whenever we come on the field, but very rewarding. and i want to represent r the marine corpsew. c the one of the best things you can do at brings back some memories. that's a beautiful place, but aw. and iul p they also have the mae band that trains there and that's the president's own. they're the best. i remember dancing with my daughter to frozen at the white house christmas party. they bring out so much joy
10:27 pm
and happiness for so many people. it's really amazing. so all the ceremonial aspects of the marine corps. so the burial ceremon team, whia real big deal , the solid drill team, the marine band with their and then some of the some of the ceremonial guards from aroundf the live there or work there to include you know, we always hear about the tomb of the unknown soldier, but the burial team, each service has one of those toto go perform burials in arlington for the marines that are, you know, or whichever service. il sole when when a marine is killd in action, marines bury that person there.ne and those guys are. like they could start on the offensive on pittsburgh . and thank you to lieutenant olsen at home. she is an absolute rock star. i love how in sync all those men and women as a marching literally together and all of our military. but the marines always in unison together. you know, we have the best looking uniform. so we'd like to show it off and that's not going to denuke the branches agree. than but they know we are

10:33 pm
the united states marine corps in a place s i recently traveled up to camp pendletonon in southern california to visit first marine eod company. that'sin my old unit. that's where the eod or bomb techs are and it's where i have the chance to reunite with some of the guys i served with overha in afghanistan about a decade ago to get their take on the true meaning of service and sacrifice. let's take s been ten or twelvei years since we were allwe deployed together and that was by all accounts one of the hardest in this oras that time frame. o ever for this job. and here we are. years twelve years later, you guysll are still in that will be adapted so quickly because we were scared if we saw the effects of ieds and how fast they proliferated as i do, it's a problem solver, a little bit of alphaha, you know, because you're proudr of doing your job and you do wear a badge and you do when everybody else is going backwards, you're going rds and that's it's
10:34 pm
very similar to the fire department and a lot of ways. w. but i think what may be a little bit different is that, you know, eod neutralizes explosive threats, all of themn the full range in order to collect in order to collect information c that leads to some type of targeting cycle. that's that's what i think makes us a little bit different. so we'ree there with about 80 marines. i think t that deployment total with our two platoons together, eight of them were killedd in action 10%. that's not counting is. i don'tt know how many of s us were severely wounded. so 1%ev volunteer. why do you want to be anybody tech? i want t being eod techal originally with for 9/11. i was in college at the time, saw i the world trade centers go down and i decided that was what i was going to do.you can o i think it's one of the very few jobs that you can do everything right. everything by the bookht.. but you still you can still at high risk for something going wrong, something that you didn't anticipate. il
10:35 pm
there's just about a million things that can go wrong when you talk about this job being . why is it fun? why do you enjoy it? well, one , you get to blow things up to. it's everything. everything's a thinking problem. a threat analysis. so it's like somebody who likes doing puzzles. what'smeikes doing going on in e right now? you see it on the news guidedom missile in somebody's living room. m.. so that's that's pure u.d. work, right? work. movie top gun just came out. came the second one , maverick. and i've always told people the one thing about the first movie i liked was the volleyball theme and the reason why everybody sees that scene and all they see are good looking men with their shirts off. but they don't see is a community doing something that is not work-related butt' is very much important to doing a job and being a team. i mean, the whole movie, both
10:36 pm
