service. service. in highland park, illinois, they are getting ready to give us an update, the police department is set to hold a news conference any moment now, because it was due at noon. literally, they are checking the mics, it is coming. we're listening for the charges against that 21-year-old who wanted to become a rapper and put all of that violence all over the internet. he is the main suspect in all this. we're listening for charges and that, and also in details in the investigation after this massacre that occurred at july 4th parade in a chicago suburb yesterday. the shooting rocks one of the wealthiest neighborhoods there. just as vice president, harris now gets ready to visit chicago later today, so we have a lot to cover the sour. you're watching outnumbered, i am harris faulkner, here with my cohosts, emily compagno and kayleigh mcenany, i missed you guys. >> missed >> misty.

>> harris: also joining us rachel and david as my missed you too. will get right to the news now and take you right back to highland park, illinois. the news at first broke yesterday. video again coming in in the chaos in highland park when this is telling saw and heard right before having to run for their lives. >> first without it might've been firecrackers. and then i grabbed her. we laid behind this metal garbage can. it was very frightening. >> we are okay. >> we are going okay. >> how many were here? >> 40, 50, tons and went on for a minute. >> harris: they are great witnesses because they were 60. there were 60 the people heard that some people are telling us now. early in the investigation very police are also telling that the

gunman's high-powered rifle and was perched on a nearby rooftop. he picked off and killed at least six people. wounded more than 31. and ran off after all of that. that manhunt for him lasted eight hours. it finally ended after a brief car chase with the man you see there. now labeled a person of interest in the shooting. they took him into custody. police say, as i mentioned earlier, he was an aspiring rapper. he posted some pretty disturbing pictures and videos and songs on a social media pages. including images of a man aiming a rifle at another. and while the motive for the shooting remains a mystery for now, we know he intended to kill. we have learned more about the victim range in age of 8-85. they include nicholas toledo, grandfather visiting his family, he is a mexican national. jackie sondheim, a preschool teacher at a local synagogue.

kaylee, the word of this coming out during "unnumbered" yesterday reported the last hour as freedom quieted by gunfire. >> kayleigh: that's a sellout fell. it happened as you noted here on a veteran and his thoughts for the fourth of july and the best among us and instead we had to turn to the worst among us. this evil, evil monster. the victims you named we only know two of the names but nicholas toledo there in his 70s. his granddaughter said he is a hero. she said he did not want to come to the parade because he had health concerns. he's getting older. he comes to the parade, apparently he dove in front of the bullet or somehow stop the bullet from reaching his granddaughter. and her boyfriend. hit 12 family members there. is granddaughter said my life is saved because of him. this meant as a hero. there were many heroes that day. one thing lawrence jones said

yesterday is that we are not going to let the worst among us, so far between these monsters overcome the best among us because on the fourth of july yesterday, the first responders showed up. individuals like this poor man who lost his life but did so heroically, they are the story of america. not the monster who i am so glad you didn't mention his name. >> harris: i don't say it appeared i don't care if they put in the prompter. unless there is a manhunt and you need to find somebody in need all of america to help you find them, i just don't think that they deserve the glory. but there are people who have left so those fighting for our lives, they deserve the glory. rachel? >> rachel: that is so true. interesting to see the response. most have a response that you are having. others are going to guns. it really is upsetting to me because i still remember a parade in wisconsin where darrell brooks would use a vehicle to take down people during a holiday christmas parade. clearly, this is not about guns and weapons.

with the form of weapon is being used to her people at these places that are supposed to be happy events. it's about mental illness. i believe. and i believe we have a crisis of it and a short supply of services for people who needed. we have a problem for families who are trying to get help from people who need that help enter over the age of 18. i think it is sometimes harder than people think. i've heard a lot of people today say where the families? and i often feel that way too but at the same time, that person was over the age of 18. who knows? we don't know yet. maybe they did try. maybe there is a big cultural problem we need to talk about. they feel sad that parades which are part of our american culture, especially in small towns on little suburbs. that is something that we should be able to go to and feel happy and joyful and not worry about. now i think he will be looking at this building periods or someone up there? >> harris: i interviewed a

father last hour whose family struggles with the neurological disorder. he said talking to a 7-year-old twins is very hard because he says he had to talk them into going to the parade. because they were afraid of those open faces in crowds and whatnot. he says now i just don't even know how to reach them to explain what has happened. he said there were so many young children there that you didn't need to have some sort of disorder not to be able to comprehend that for quite some time for these young ones. family? >> emily: that interview was so powerful, and i was struck by him saying that his son last night said is someone going to kill me come in at the level of trauma really cannot be overemphasized. these children have now been exposed to this because to your point about the parades, these are family-friendly events. these are the events that bring us together, the fabric of society regardless of because you come out to mainstreet celebrate your faith freedom and family, to have something so evil and terrible rep everyone apart.

government is not doing its job and its local communities that need to come together with the solution. >> david: what gets me more than anything else is the inhumanity. you mention the 53 people that were killed, imagine opening a trailer truck and seeing 53 dead bodies. the trump administration was criticized by biden for being inhumane, and inhumane border crossing. if you get the designation of being the number one dangerous, lethal border crossing in the world, 1,238 migration deaths in 2021. and all that is just a number, and statistics are horrible in the way they dehumanize, but the inhumanity of this policy far exceeds any inhumanity from previous administrations. i mean, this has a record, just in terms of pure numbers, people who are suffering and dying as a result of these policies. >> emily: that's right, harris, 1.7 million encounters i know statistics are hard for us to appreciate but each one is a

>> harris: inside of a two-minute warning now from the police in highland park, illinois, set to give that news conference we were waiting for. it was due at the top of the hour. we know they have potentially a lot to announce because we get this about every hour. this is pushed a bit. for the reasons emily was telling us earlier, we may hear the charges come down against the 21-year-old suspect. because of that, we want to make sure we are glued to the screen. so much devastation yesterday. we been talking about it here on "outnumbered," the talk and not take away the pain, particularly for the children. rachel, i know it doesn't matter what age. someone opening fire to july 4th parade, it happens, it's cars you, it sticks with you. but when you are under the age of five, i mean, i don't even

know how you explain it. >> rachel: you can't in its formative this will stay with these children forever. i also interviewed that man you interviewed during your show. heartbreaking. they had sensory issues. >> harris: all right, let's watch together, highland park, illinois police. >> i'm joined joined here by mayor nancy road ring and chief of police lou jackman. my name is chris cavalli, covelli and i am part of the task force. thus far where we are at where will be moving forward. so come over the past 24 hours there has been a significant amount of information obtained by investigators, consistently extremely hard work by highland park police, the major crime task force, state police atf and the fbi. everyone has been collaborating very well further in this investigation, the community has been absolutely terrific as it comes to reporting information they have, things they may have witnessed, things that may have

seen, turning over video that has really helped us further the investigation and aid investigators. at one point i just want to clarify robert primo iii is 21 and will be 22 this year and is a resident of highwood. throughout the past 24 hours, investigators have spoken with witnesses, some of the survivors have reviewed numerous video clips both from cell phone video recording and stick cameras in the area, and they have conducted a number of other follow-up investigations. based on where we are at at this point in the investigation, some of this is still preliminary, so it is subject to change as we are moving forward. we do believe he preplanned this attack several weeks. he brought a high-powered rifle to this parade, he access to the roof of the business, a fire escape ladder, and began opening fire on the innocent independence day celebration

goers. the rifle was purchased in illinois, and the information we have thus far is that it appears to have been purchased legally by during the attack he was dressed in women's clothing and investigators do believe he did this to conceal his facial tattoos and identity and help him during the escape within the other people who were fleeing the chaos. during the attack we believe crimo fired more than 70 rounds into the crowd of innocent people. following the attack, crimo exited the roof, dropped his rifle and blended in with the crowd and escaped. he walked to his mother's home lived in the area, and blended right in with everybody else as they were running around, almost as he was an innocent spectator as well. he borrowed his mother's vehicle, we issued an alert yesterday afternoon, chief jackman provided the vehicle information and crimo's

information, very thankful that an alert member of the community saw crimo's vehicle traveling southbound on route 41, dell mountain 911 and alerted north chicago police officer who spotted the vehicle, waited for additional backup units to arrive, conducted a traffic stop, and they were able to safely apprehend a crimo iii with no injuries to the officers. inside the vehicle there was a second rifle located. indications is that it was purchased by crimo as well. thus over 40 people were injured and this does not include the six lost their lives. right now crimo remains in custody at this time. there are no indications that there was anybody else involved in this attack. he was acting by himself. the state's attorney's office as a witness as a ground level, there with us this morning and through the night. we continue to review the information great investigators are still developing leads and very critical information. once we are at a point where we

chief covelli. >> any questions? at this point we have not developed a motive from him. investigators are very much furthering the investigation. they have been in discussions with him. don't have anything to say about motivation thus far because it hasn't been provided. the question was disturbing videos online that had been seen. we are reviewing those, those will be part of any investigation efforts by our task force investigators, how enforce police. we will look at them and see what they reveal.

the question was where did he purchase the weapons and did he tell his mother what he had done. he purchased the weapons locally within the region. the chicagoland area. when he went to his mother's come we have no indication he provided any information to her. >> how many weapons that he purchase? >> he was in possession of the firearm the day of, the rifle, he was in possession of another rifle in his vehicle when he was pulled over a police. he also had other firearms that were recovered from a residence he was living in highwood. they were in his name. they were legally purchased. >> there is a level of disguise how did you identify him? clearly there was a lot of planning. you have any idea where he placed himself is our timeline? >> we are working on the timeline and we don't want to be coming out with any inaccurate information on timing. at one of the asks that we have

them down? >> covelli: investigators and a great job, the atf was phenomenal yesterday, the expedited trace of the firearm that was a major investigative leap for us. with that the videos we obtained from people that turned the men, and the businesses, they all helped us tremendously. >> the number of injured and further breakdowns how many of those were gunshot victims and how many of the injured were not gunshot victims? >> covelli: the information i right now is that all of those transported to the hospital or drove themselves to the hospital were injured by gunfire. so, over 30 individuals that were injured by the gunfire and then went to the three hospitals we mentioned yesterday. >> do you have more info on the ages? >> covelli: he was identified by a number of... there were police officers able to recognize his photo once

revealed that helped tremendously. >> so was he dressed as a woman during the shooting? is that based on photographic evidence or what eyewitnesses were saying? also kenny tells what type of weapon was used? >> covelli: it was a high-powered rifle that was used. shot high velocity rounds. >> an a or 15? >> covelli: could be eight similar to an air 15, it was similar. as far as identifying him with women's clothing, he was seen on video in women's clothing, video cameras played at renda's role in how we were able to identify both leaving initially and as he left. >> where they bought at the same time? >> covelli: different but it's applications. i am not exactly sure what the woman's attire consisted of. initially was reported that this person had long hair, so a week isn't of the question.
