seven people killed, 30 more injured. authorities -- the suspect had two prior run-ins with law enforcement. >> in 2019, an individual contacted -- state departments of the week after learning of them attempting suicide. a mental health professional at that time -- the second incident, he said that he was going to kill everyone, and police responded -- they removed knives, a dagger, and a sword from his home. two rifles, some pistols, possibly a shotgun. >> also saying this

someone, you are alone or can i have 19 or 17 knives and the police say there is no ground to arrest you, i would take that any day of the week. to me, that's enough to make an arrest. we also know he has attempted suicide, has mental health issues, and i have not touched the social media yet. is this a small town? >> chicago. >> it's a suburb. the local cops should know what's going on. apparently, the mayor said something that helped type called the parents to pick this kid up school. it's like he did not have any family around him. once you isolate everything around him, you have to know he is going to do something wrong. whether or not you know that he would take down people in a parade is disgusting and sad. i don't want to go on talking

about recognizing the horrible pain this town has been in, and the post-traumatic stress they will have as a result of this, but let's be clear about one thing: when we find people with knives and guns, we arrest them, keep them in jail, and convict them. when we start recognizing that there is that have to be imposed before you start going after the second amendment, may be, then we can have a legitimate conversation. speak of speak of the skies homicidal, suicidal, arms to his teeth, and has facial tattoos. why can't you throw him in a straitjacket? >> you have a big problem with -- a couple of things. one, i think at some point, everyone around the table and

country has to sort of wrestle with how do we want to recalibrate how we think about police fighting, law enforcement, our loss for the books, be it the shooting in chicago or highland park. we have to sit back and understand that you can't go to a concert or parade or church or school or standout on your corner, or for that matter, can you imagine what we are going to do here in new york. the guy was talking, and all i was thinking was "if this guy has a gun, he might fire at us and at the car." what's hard about this, i try to tell my party with energy that we should be different. we have to resend our position on the keystone pipeline. why do i say this? not because i don't want a green energy platform in the country, but because we are at war in ukraine and the russians have the upper hand. the same way that europe depends so heavily on oil and products

from russia, we rely on technology from asia. we have to invest in congress. look back at guns and where we are. we have a public safety challenge. i'm not saying guns -- one of the principal rules of the legislature anywhere in the country, and when a problem presents itself, everyone has got to not retreat to their sacred corners and keep their sacred positions on things that sound good on a piece of paper or sound bite, but we have a problem. i'm not saying that removing guns is the answer, but the tattooed faces -- these guys are 21 and younger, most of our kids from -- should let them buy guns. they have proven not to be responsible with guns, and this is not an attack on the second amendment, it is an attack on people trying to kill people.

have someone with their plans -- specifically in advance. a kid literally drew on a piece of paper what he was about to do that morning. we saw the individual text someone saying they wanted to shoot up an elementary school. they articulate their threats 50% of the time. we need to figure out what to do when articulating the threat, because letting them have free reign is not the answer. >> i think every one of these cases, these themes fit a type. they are these very white, unstable, disturbing-looking people. i feel you can't judge a book by its cover, but in some cases you can. i think there's a correlation between disturbing, unstable behavior, and people who

deliberately try to make themselves look unappealing and unapproachable. that could be their cry for help. if you -- their cry for help. if you look at antifa -- i think there is a red flag there that a lot of people -- when someone is deliberately trying to deface themselves permanently, or look in a way that makes them unapproachable, what are they trying to tell you? if beauty is the guide of what is possible, then what is ugliness? we don't ask that anymore, as people continue to deface themselves in so many different ways. i will be an old saw on this. it was not suicide: it was suicide plus, which the only reason you do that is to create a spectacle for attention. worried this would create a copycat because it happened on the heels of these other ones. there are enough mass shootings to see these trends to see that they are closely young white

males. not all of them, but you could look at each one. if you take them away from gang shootings, domestics, any kind of gun use -- just look at people shooting for the sake of shooting. it's always -- by the previous attack. if you thought that you could decrease these attacks by 30%, why wouldn't you? the media could do that. we could just report the facts cannot be one and done and leave, instead of giving nonstop coverage. remember, the media can decide not to cover something. border chaos, the riots. look at the akron, ohio, shooting. they said that they covered the 60 shots from the police, but not the fact that the guy shot first. have to look at the stuff and

i used this line on my children this weekend, and it works. being disappointed in someone is very effective. other countries throughout the world -- they celebrate their independence, big days like we do -- do you think the french, on their big day, are running down napoleon, or the mexicans are in the street saying "this place stinks"? no, they are being as proud as you can be. some have said we are going backwards. i do not like when democrats constantly say we are moving backwards. it's not progress. to make this analogy, democrats would put all the dining room chairs on the dining room table.
