transition happened in and around the time that joe biden ascended to the presidency here in the united states, which begs the question, what does this mean for u.s.-u.k. relations going forward in the near term? >> u.s.-u.k. relations took a massive back stepan biden took office. he's got this romantic idea of ireland, that makes it difficult. he's made nothing on a trade deal, which under trump, we were designed and delivered by now. of course, biden withdraws american troops from afghanistan without even consulting his oldest ally. we put the same money into afghanistan. we lost the same number of lives in afghanistan on a pro rata basis. i think that has been a slight
1:47 am
coming together over ukraine, where boris johnson has given more leadership than biden in many ways. yes, where biden and boris wanted was at the g7 in england and cornwall last year. again, they both want to save the world but aiming for net zero, that's where that relationship went. truth of it is, guys, presidents command go, prime ministers command go, the u.s.-u.k. relationship as a very good. and slightly colder period. overall, still incredibly close and they will go on. >> carley: those who are just learning about the fact that there was even controversy surrounding boris johnson, can you explain exactly what it is that did him in for lack of a better phrase? >> while, there were a series of problems that have been occurring month after month. things that could easily have been avoided as opposed to major

crises that the market trust upon others. this one is a good old russian sex scandal. i'll promise you, no one does sex scandals like the british. this one is a man who is in a senior position of government who had a long history of behaving inappropriately, and i mean very inappropriately towards young men. there were incidents that took place at a club in london, a conservative club in london, where the guys got very, very drunk. i think basically assaulted two young men. he was ultimately suspended from the party, then the question came, did boris johnson know about the history of the spam? and that is where this all started. no, he knew nothing about it. then we were told he knew generally there was some gossip, but he knew no specific
1:49 am
allegations. and then emerged, the president has been directly reach a specific allegations of serious sexual harassment against this man who hasn't acted and hasn't removed him. johnson was confronted with that, he said he forgot. you can see the lies that just completely got out of control. confident in the country, the prime minister just crashed. the great thing about leaders is sometimes, they have to say things that to the contrary that aren't very nice, but you have to tell the truth. given there was also that he was dishonest to the public about helping these government parties during pandemic labs and then actually survived a vote of no confidence of the situation. not only that, it was interesting how serious the british people to that because we had about 50 leaders in the
1:50 am
united states will basically do the exact same thing, but there is a lot of anger for boris johnson. >> it's interesting, we've been working on pandemic, we've been working 18 hours a day. we are under huge pressure, and you know what? actually, on friday night, he did have a party. it wasn't very fun. all of us would say, well, actually, we broke the rules on it but also. again, it's so often we find in politics and in public life, it isn't the act itself that causes the harm, it is the attempt to cover it up by not telling the truth. a series of these things for johnson where he's honesty, truthfulness, integrity is a big. literally over the sex scandal, he is being not telling us the
1:51 am
truth. we just decided collectively and quickly in the course of a few days that enough is enough. >> todd: british media saying prime minister boris johnson expected to resign. we were to have an announcement at some point within the next couple of minutes, potentially hours from right there. 10 downing street. we have night and far right here with us to break down what this means for the u.k., for u.k.-u.s. relations. you have different herbs and boris. i want to get into the appetite for scandal between our two countries with our leaders. obviously, u.s., no stranger to scandals with our leaders. now, you obviously facing a major scandal. here is a scandal with boris johnson in the u.k. how does the appetite from the public differ and what does that lead to going forward with what these leaders can ultimately accomplish, and the political

futures? >> i think one thing is that the british press, i think the people in the british newspapers are much more vicious than anything you've got in america. i know that somebody -- i'm literally, there are many, many things in people's private lives that get exposed in britain and get talked about. but the truth is people are quite forgiving. nobody lives are blameless and faultless life. but it is about how people respond. this can be financial obligations are personal allegations are whatever it maybe. it's all about how people respond to it. sometimes, people try to hide under a rock and top it all goes away, it maybe at will and maybe it won't.
1:53 am
those who wilfully try to cover their tracks with untruths was in the end found out. we can go back to 1963 when there was a government who was involved with a woman was a was also involved with a russian attache. can you imagine this? the height of the cold war. he lied to parliament. in the end, if it brought the entirety of the conservative government down and labeled under the next general election. it's nice to get magnified in a huge way. unless the conservative party can learn a very rapid, quick lesson from this, they will be obliterated from the next general election. >> carley: has there ever been a british prime minister to resign in this way? how historic is this moment? >> actually, you elect a president for a term and they can be impeached and removed,
1:54 am
doesn't really happen. our system is different. we don't actually vote, and in theory, we vote for a number of mps, the prime minister comes from a month that. interestingly, resignation has become very coffin. present the very morning after the break that referendum. theresa may resigned the day after the european election of 2019, when the conservatives got the lowest votes in the entirety of their history, and now boris. we've got three in a row. it does seem to be rather common over here. >> todd: watch theresa may thinking this morning? >> i don't know. she hasn't said. she probably feels that she probably feels a certain degree
1:55 am
of delight because she has huge antipathy toward boris johnson. probably having a private little quiet. here is the point, and i have to reemphasise it one more time. the threat the last couple of days isn't as the legacy of reputation. for boris johnson is the entirety of conservative movement in this country. it has been dragged to the mat over the course of the last week. people in the streets openly say that conservatives were all cheats, they are all liars, they're all abusers. it's bad, pretty bad. so whatever she may think privately, the fact is the conservative tribe needs to get back together, we assess its core values, it back to being a part of truth and integrity. if it does that, we have a chance of the next election. otherwise, were going to finish up -- it's not the extreme anti-semitic hard left. we'll up with a liberal
1:56 am
socialist style administration, which i think -- it really is the conservative movement now has got to get this right. to be one of just saying that british media was reporting that boris johnson is set to resign today. we have implemented people confirm that as well. does his resignation mean -- it's more clarification on the point that you just made -- does his resignation mean that the next british prime minister could be from the liberal party, or is the next prime minister going to be from the conservative party? how does that work? >> not in the short-term. in the short term, the conservatives have a big parliamentary majority. many, many more mps. we will maintain a conservative prime minister. the argument i'm making is that
1:57 am
the next general election has to take place before the end of 2024. our current form, the conservatives will suffer a devastating loss in that election. we will get a liberal socialist popping on prime minister. there is still time for the conservative movement to save itself. it has to act quickly, it has to act decisively because that whole thing has been tarnished. it's sad to say, but the whole plan has been tarnished by johnson. >> todd: i know you said earlier in our discussion, you weren't sure what needs to be circulating, but that's it, we here in the u.s. are discussing potential blast from the past with looking to 2024 and beyond. obviously, i'm talking about
1:58 am
hillary clinton and donald trump. any blast from the past week at either the u.k.? >> no. even the fact that hillary's name is being mentioned is beyond my comprehension. there is no chance of theresa may coming back. there is no chance of david cameron coming back. now, it's going to be someone new. we will see. i personally hope that somebody who's outside the family circle. you think about this. david cameron and boris johnson went to the same school, or eaten. they produced 21 british prime ministers. a lot for one school producing most of our prime ministers. we can move outside of the upper classes and find those who have been successful in the world of business before. his powers from saddam hussein.
1:59 am
came to britain, they don't speak the language. has become very successful, quite good businessman. number two job in the country. he is self-made, got talented. i want someone like that is what the conservative movement been. >> carley: what does this mean for the war in ukraine? johnson has some major support, sending british aid to ukraine. does that change now that he's going to resign? >> i don't think it will, to be honest with you. it seems that ukraine -- no, i think the british are going to go on sending arms, sending aid to ukraine, although it very
2:00 am
much looks like putin will take donbas. even breaking right now, it is 10:00 a.m. in london. prime minister boris johnson is preparing to resign. >> todd: we are expecting him to make a statement at any appointment. his newly appointed education secretary resigned. one of 50 british officials resigned after revealed johnson knew about misconduct against the former deputy chief whip he appointed. nigel farage here with us during the breaking news. we've been talking for the last 20 minutes about all things boris johnson, for those just waking up, why now? what happened ove
