with murder? it is most clear-cut case of self defense almost a textbook case you study in law school. >> todd: seems to be inverted justice here not only with alvin bragg but jurisdictions throughout the country where the victims are treated like a criminal. how do we stop this? >> we have to hold the da's accountable and i don't understand how da bragg comes to this conclusion. how do you look at the criminal history of the deceased and say this guy needs to be charged. as far as i know, mr. alva, has no record, he was working, he doesn't own the bodega, he gets attacked and defends himself and the da's office requests $300,000 bail and take his passport.

people before and nevertheless he allowed or helped his son get guns in this instance. in your experience, how common for the father or an accomplice who facilitated this to be charged in a case like this? >> we haven't seen a lot of it to be accessory or accomplice, it is hard to prove. you have to prove that person intended to help the murderer commit the accountas. simply the fact of having a gun in a house is not enough. i highly doubt this father didn't intend for this to happen. in the past shooters, even starting from columbine, never seen someone charged with accessory and the parknowents live with them, no history of that. i doubt there will be charges against the father. >> todd: we will see, michael

your mind as this was happening? >> we show up and first you hear the children and see the children and you know you got to do what it takes to get the kids out. we sprung into action and started directing the kids out of the window. >> carley: you had to get the kids to trust you to jump into your arms out the window, how did you do that? >> i made mention before, went into dad mode and tried to talk to the kids the way that i would talk to my own kids, that is what i defaulted back to and what a lot of us tried to do at the same time just to build some sort of trust with them so they trusted us to catch them. >> carley: officer, i'm sure as a father yourself, this situation seeing the scared kids resonated with you? >> it really did.

>> carley: how many children did you save? there was also an adult in the building. you were there for a while catching people from the windows. >> in total, five children and a -- an adult that was the guardian for the children for the night, a grandmother to one of the children and the mother to a few of the others. yeah, in total, there were five kids and one adult. >> carley: i always wonder this, patrolman, after a day like this, when you and your team rescue people in a high, interrence tense situation, you go home and what happens then? >> you go home, this happened at 1 a.m., huge adrenalin rush. that particular situation and call, you are thankful, so many other circumstances and outcomes

tribute, of course, pouring in from around the world, including from former president trump who says, quote: absolutely devastating news that former prime minister shinzo abe a truly great man and leader has been shot. he was a true friend of mine and much more importantly america. >> carley: fox news contributor lara trump joins us now. lara, good morning to you. former president trump and prime minister abe met several times when both men were in office and this is absolutely unexpected, devastating tragic loss. what are your thoughts this morning? >> yeah. well, carley, you said it. it's a tragedy. it's truly horrifying when you see things like this happen. my thoughts immediately went to, of course my father-in-law who also is a former leader and thank goodness he is surrounded by great men and women from the united states secret service that keep him protected every day. but, you know, you just referenced the relationship that my father-in-law had with the

former prime minister. i know he visited mar-a-lago multiple times. they respected one another very highly as leaders of great countries. but they also, i could think, had a friendship that developed over the years. they played golf together so many times. i believe the prime minister even attended one of the first lady's birthday dinners unexpectedly. that's sort of the relationship that they had. and obviously a tragic loss for japan. our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire country. our condolences and truly a loss on the world stage as well. i know that, again, my father-in-law truly respected him as a great leader and this is a huge loss for him as well. >> todd: at a time trump presidency when a number of world leaders avoided the u.s., avoided our country, severed their relationship. shinzo abe did not do that he doubled down with president trump and really forged a strong bond.

what did that bond mean for the u.s.? >> well, i think, look, whenever you have allies around the world that are willing to reach out and make your relationship even better, i think that's always a positive thing. so i think you look at japan at this time and you are exactly right, todd, this was something that other leaders were maybe afraid to do but it meant that the united states and japan had a great working relationship. that there were many visits between these two men throughout the course of my father-in-law's presidency, and that's always a positive thing, i think, for a country whenever you can be on the same page and work very well together, with your allies. so, obviously, i think that was a positive thing, and i think other leaders took notes from that and said hey, if he is able to do this, then we should be able to do the same thing with donald trump, with america and hopefully they saw him a bit as a leader in that space. again, another reason that this
