here we are more lives lost and i travel from chicago to new york -- los angeles to dallas. been there i've talked to the grieving families, law enforcement an political leaders. this week sadly it was a little bit different to hit home. it was personal. my colleague lost his brother kristin he was only 18. i talk with gianna before funeral today. and one question kept repeating in my head what is the magic number. how many will it take? what's going on in chicago right now is unacceptable and everybody knows it. families deserve answers and they deserve action. unfortunately the city mayor is preparing to flee scene of the crime and sending to prepare economic prosperity of her state. but the mayor doesn't understand there's no pursuit of happiness without life. meanwhile the county d.a. kim

fox may have a domestic violence case. we are being let down by people that look like us that say they care about us. but when we need a hero they are nowhere to be found. unless this election time -- these kids that are being slaughtered every day won't get the chance to vote. so the big question is, when will it end? >> this has to change. and if christian is the -- if christian's life is the push forward for this, then that's what we're going to have to do. but his life and legacy will mean something and his life and legacy will mean something and i'll work to ensure that it does. lawrence: we matter an we stand with you brother. i asked folks in chicago what they want to see done about the violence in their own city, and cities across america. here's what they have to say, watch.

>> you feel like crime is a big issue. >> definite, it is. there's been crime going on a lot late lis and especially with these -- shootings that have been taking place mass shootings things like that. it is awful. >> feel like the crime in the country is a big issue? >> absolutely. for sure. it is getting crazier and crazier. crime is an issue throughout the country, and seem like it's -- getting worse. by the week. it is unfortunate that it's this late. i don't know really what the solution exactly is going to be. but i think there's a lot of inaction which is really the worst thing you could be doing. efnlgt leaders are doing a -- a appropriate job in addressing the problem. >> no i think a little bit more could be done for sure. >> do you think lead reverse doing a sufficient job to address everything that's happening? >> i don't think so. major change. i don't appreciate it at all and i feel unsafe on public transportation. >> doing things and seem like

project could jr. of 9/11 dispatcher founder of hill chicago thank you for joining me so much tonight. pastor brooks, known you for a while brother you've been on top of the roof trying to get fund for community center to have prevention there. let's go to the leaders, do you think they care about addressing the issue? >> you know, i believe that everything rises and falls on leadership and we have to take good and bad when things are not going well, we have to attack responsibility and be accountable for that. often times in our city when they thinks are not going well you see leadership step aside and put blame somewhere else. but we have to tell them and continue to let them know that you can't just have it when it is all sunshine. you have to also take rain as well that's reason where it is important for people in our community or get the opportunity and see lead reverse not doing things they're supposed to do -- then we should do what we're supposed to do that's vote them out of office. but -- definite everything rises and

falls on leadership in this the city of chicago. >> so true keith. i've been covering this story for over four years. going out there talking with people age i think there's a common misconception that people of chicago don't care. they've been begging for help. you get the calls every day from the people begging for help. but they're not going to go out there and turn someone over to the police. if the d.a. is going to release them within 24 hours, sir. >> you know, you already covered fox got to go mayor got to go. you know the reality is here with chicago including myself, police officers, firefighters, people who work pastors, you have people who are clerk workers that gas stations they are in fear for their lives. we have ptsd i'm afraid of who is pulling up on side of me so bad here to keep your head on a swivel and so -- you're going down to what's the problem here in chicago it is three main problems for me i'm talking about criminals needs to be held accountable but officers are out there trying bees they can and bare bones and working

their days off everything is canceled but their out there doing their job and they do it but when officers are bringing these criminals in they're back out next day. that's problem number one, number two, the program and different things like this wonderful pastor here he's doing great things stepping out of the box with politicians should be doing he's doing and other people within the community. and number three really quick, these politicians got to go and it starts with yopght call her leerdz she's not a leader it is mayor she's got to go. >> so true pastor i want to talk about the federal response to this. so often we see when there's a mass shooting -- there's a federal response to it everyone gets onboard but this is having, happening every single day in chicago. and there's no response here's the fbi director here's what he had to say. watch. >> more and more some of the worst offenders continue to find themselves back on streets and if there's anything more frustrating to a law enforcement

officer, than putting bad guy behind bars who should have been behind bars is putting the same guy behind bars over and over again. >> what you say pastor? >> i believe same teach of compassion and same type of heart felt sympathy that other places are el tooing like like highland park and it should get all of the compassion they should get all of the prayers but place like chicago in south side and west side we should get the same thing we're not asking anyone to do anything different but same that i think you're doing in other place and we realize that -- oftentimes on some people with their agenda if it is not an ar-15 involved or if it is not people who have great meerns involved, then it is overlooked and in chicago, there's no doubt about it. that communities on south side and west side are overlooked consistently and continually habit chully and we continue to have issues over and over again.

and we're going to continue to have theming. >> so true. >> i have to ask you because i don't know what it is threek answer these because i know what it is to meet after their loved one has died but what is it like get these calls every single day and every single weekend? >> all across the country gone on forever we get 9/11 emergencieses but fire police or paramedics need it that's my job. so that compliment on that because that's never going change but what needs to change and what affects me and other employees within this city and other large cities through this crisis is i know that when i say and say i have someone coming to you that's not always case there's districts with few officer where is they're waiting up to hours because officers are -- not out there. they're handling something else and calls are overwhelming and high demanding you have police officers believing this job. not the career, they're going to other departments and leaving here because they have a problem here. and a problem is the politicians that look like me with black

on the election? is this a call for gun control or is this a call for law and orders and public safety, sir? >> good to be here with you lawrence look i think it is really important to note that this poll was taken just days after the tragedy and which is -- a community that's primarily hispanic but look it is no coincidence that latinos are shifting to right after season of the progressive push to defund the police. you look at areas and cities where lawmakers adopted these policies and cream just skyrocketed. talking to hispanics they understand exactly what gun control means. this poll really doesn't show anything new and that we've always known that security rejection is always been a tough issue for latinos so when you talk about gun control and defunding police latinos specifically mexican american hispanics understand what that means. look no further than our southern nab both immigrated

from this country has some of the tightest strict laws in guns actually one gun store in the entire country that someone can go in and purchase a gun and result it have that is skyrocket crime, and people of the country are held hostage to organize crime and the cartel. so i think top of the line security protection have always been issues that latinos care about. gun control is when you stray away from with latino vote rs because they know exactly what that means. >> you know such a good point because you know i wouldn't suggest that i speak for all black people like you don't speak for all latino people. but there's a principle within both of our cultures of one being tiebl protect their families. right? >> well absolutely. and -- you know, we have guns in this country since inception of the united states. so we can debate about gun control for days. but the real issue at hand here is growing a generation without

moral conduct. i mean you look at progressive policy and mjtszing defund police feminist movement has been completely hijacked by individuals that want to kick father out of the home and destroy the nuclear family what does that do? that raises a generation with serious problem answer lawrence, we both know that you can't legislate evil and latinos know that family center latinos know importance of having a strong father figure and raising moral conduct. >> i have about 30 seconds but what diewpght to see from republican party in this midterm? >> talk more about mental health awareness i think that's been a top that i can republicans have strayed away from and latinos don't understand where -- where republicans really stand on that. it should be a bipartisan effort to increase awareness on mental health issue you look at how -- suspects of those incidents where all people with serious

expecting that in georgia. are you surprised, brother? >> yeah. lawrence it was a good question listen that's trouble to me georgia is a critical state and hasn't won that in since bill clinton so that's serge trouble ing to me but i think interviews they were great on the street are reflective of the economic situation that americans are feeling. and there's no question that the president's job numbers are down. but elections are about contest they're about -- you know, versus blue versus red, and you know i love to see the, you know, same kind of questions asked should donald trump run for reelection in 2024 against joe biden and see where those folks shake out because it is all about contest and less about, you know, who which individual should run and which should not. >> charlie those a lot of those were biden voters people that -- voted for the president, i mean -- you expect republicans to say look we disagree with the

president didn't vote for them begin with but to have democrats say we disagree with not only performance. but his age. >> yeah. well see this is what i love about all of those interviews it is a reminder of how unfailingly polite most american voters are. that they talk about his age but i don't think that's their real hangup about him. their real hangup about him is as kerch pointed out it is inflation. it's gas prices. it's the invasion of the border it is the crime. it's all of the things that is making their lives more miserable. but they're too polite to sort of like beat up on the guy too badly and they say you know what it is time for them to retire. he's too old. we need to move on to somebody else. but i think the real problem that democrats have right now is the same forces the same -- you know fraction among democrats that led to joe biden getting the nomination no 2020

is still here. and when you look at the bench it is a shallow benches it is a very weak bench for democratsing and i think at the end of the day maybe there might be a majority of in thes who don't want to see joe biden run again, but finding who it is that all of those people can get behind -- that's much tougher. >> yeah. you know kevin you come on every week and we appreciate it brother and we try to mix it up so you get all parts of the country, we just don't pick republican we try to be fair and balanced. >> you've been all over too. >> yeah. so i guess my question is what is the democrats going to do to address this problem because the president says he's running. you already have voters saying that they're not going to vote for him and he shouldn't run so who is alternative? >> well i think it is a good question listen. you know, it is charlie just said i think it is gong to be the economy come november well 122 days out from most one of the most consequential midterm

election and democrats need to pox on economic message not get caught up in who is beginning to run in 2024 we have to keep our eye on ball for this midterm we have a lot of, you know, important elections a lot of open seats a lot of great pickup opportunities for democrats so question of to focus like a laser kind of push talk of 2024 i know same process is playing out on republican side. is donald trump going to run is he not ron delaware san it is and contenders on the right it is interesting. but we have got to focus on what's in front of us right now and it is the economy and next 122 days. let me throw that to charlie do you think republicans have same problem? there's unify because they unify bed r around idea that yoib is a disaster but here's the sort of secret thing that i think often get overlooked about donald trump.

joining me now criminal investigative derision chris aivel to the audience we wanted to demonstrate how that technology and nobody got harmed that wasn't a real suspect and chris this technology has the opportunity when there's a gun shot to lock doors in surrounding area as well as that cell phone would operate as a map as well as a keys. what do you think about this new technology that's out there? >> yeah lawrence, i do security assessments all of the time and i understand current security technology. it sounds good in concept and not sure that it is something that can be deployed on day-to-day basis we don't have s.w.a.t. teams standing outside in the parking lot nearby -- you know, takes while to muster them up probably way too long for the type of rescue that you just witnessed it has its uses

it will be ready for prime time some time in near future but i don't see that as something that's being deployed routinely around schools in universities in -- in churches that sort of thing. >> chris my question is what do we do as legislators go into their corners to talk about gun control what can we do to get warning signs out there? >> yeah, i mean we talk about red flags all of the time and we -- every mass shooter i've seen in last decade has been manifesting -- behaviors that autoalert people that are close to them that something is terribly wrong that there's mental ill rns setting in that this person is about to go off. and it is the old of see something and say something that's what failed in the most recent shooting -- and there were just school red flags on top of red flags and you have the red flag law in place in illinois and nobody bothered to use it.

you know, i heard this -- you know this -- complaint that while nobody wanted to file a complaint no family member wanted to file a complaint that's not how it worked police officers get the information they can go straight to the circuit court and they can file the information in front of a judge and get a court order like restraining order and domestic violence situation. >> chris why is it not happening these are law enforcement officials that understand the law right that -- the prosecutors represent the state the people -- it doesn't have about it a complete for them to file charges. yet it is not being done is it a liability issue or what? >> i think it is a training issue. you know requester for a lot of time you didn't see many domestic violence restraining orders and always this -- this, you know, officers walk we and say well victim doesn't want to testify. most places -- now that is not, you know, that's not how it works you arrest them you take them

downtown. you process them. if victim doesn't topght show up in court later, fine. but you get that person arrested you get that arrest on the record and police officer can testify to a lot of things that they witness anyway. so i think many cases you get a conviction without the testimony of the victim themselves. >> chris i have about 20 sendings parents in this highland case should they be held from a criminal stand point because they saw a lot didn't say a lot. >> i think there's some potential there. i'll put any former prosecutor hat on criminal negligence aiding abetting they knew this child, their child was suicidal they knew he had threaten to kill all of his family members they call police to the house twice doing violent postings they knew -- knew he was undergoing mental treatment yet walked him down nearest gun shop and father sponsored him in getting three firearms. criminal negligence. >> unbelievable why daddy run

>> welcome back to cross country let's head to texas where some school district employees are facing alarming accusation ranging from sexual harassment to outright assault, and it took a court order to even begin getting the truth out. this is alarming for parents everywhere as district continues trying to singly block reporters from finding out what is really been going on. reported lauren has been following this story she's a terrific reporter, and out front on this and we're grateful to have her on the program so i have to ask you lawrence if you can break it down for us --

you got to say a lot of this misconduct coming on former d.e.a. is investigating with the district and seems like there may have been a coverup. >> so hi lawrence thank you for having me on. we is a diverse district and full of thousands of hardworking employees who have really been under the gun with the pandemic and then decades of public education funding cuts but yeah sol employees find thelses suggest of investigation and that when we receive a tip in september that's what we -- started looking into. we've asked for all of his investigative reports dating back to 2018 and we're just now nine months later starting to get those reports. >> what took so long lauren? [laughter] >> well, that's -- anyone's guess really. texas attorney general had to rule on this couple of times actually initially i believe

district did not want these reports to go public. [laughter] lawrence: you're still getting reports in lauren and some of the people tipping you off doing fantastic work tell you that some of these employees may still be working at the school. >> yeah. so -- we are very early on in this investigation and i really encourage virus to follow issues as this continues on but yes we are unclear as to how many employees are still working with the school district and how many face disciplinary action and then how many have been fired and whatnot. so we're waiting on those answers. >> lauren i don't to get too far into weeds but what are some of the allegations of these teachers? >> yes. so the allegations range and they're not just teachers and actually in the first batch of reports it is primarily aids and custodians some football coaches things like that.

but as far as the allegations go they're everything from -- you know, more minor like a custodian el steals rice crispy treats to sexual harass the in the work place and -- drug dealing on campus and then assault of children. lawrence: you think they are trying to -- it's kind of factual at this point they're preventing the parents from knowing what's geng on. so what legally do they have to protect them from releasing this? i think they deserve to know what the feel have contact with their children are doing, right? >> yes. and so we are going to be following up on this investigation and these reports and coming weeks and months, and i really intend to get to the bottom of, you know, what happened to these employees. where are they now and you know, what disciplinary action that they encountered because of these investigations. >> real quickly before i go
