combating inflation but said yesterday at the public shouldn't "be talking ourselves into a recession." >> i don't see any reason to think that we will have a serious recession. you know, by no measure, right, we covered all the jobs since the pandemic. >> still record high gas prices have americans struggling to fill the tanks and president biden sees the upcoming trip to saudi arabia to unify old states with oil markets for that the president receiving criticism from republicans and democrats. >> i don't think this is a good idea. i think essentially we are sublimating human rights with the president going for this visit. >> in an op-ed posed for "the washington post," the president wrote this, i know there are many that disagree with my decision to travel to saudi arabia but my views are long-standing and fundamental freedoms are always on the agenda when i travel."

oman and now saudi arabia. and ultimately, that is the way of the future to create peace in that environment. interesting, the light shines forward because back in february of this year, israel and saudi arabia for the first time participated together with us in military exercises. last month, there was a secret meeting that included israel, jordan, egypt, the significant move forward. but you have to remember this administration is full board with relation with china. china is the largest human rights abuse are on the face of the planet although rush is trying to give them a run for their money. we've had relations with saudi arabia for nine 90 years, actually 91 because established in 1931. this is a little bit late but we are picking off a page and trying to move forward and get saudi into the accords would be a great step forward.

>> todd: saudi arabia made it difficult for all presidents. it is a tricky place. alliance is tricky. we understand that. as president, your job is to play chess with not just saudi arabia but all countries. that is your job. my problem with this is one, he insulted on the one hand but to kokomo crippled domestic energy. why didn't he see this chess match for what it was? >> what a great question, todd. the reality is to answer directly, the reason we have inflation which is a previous story and the reason he's on this bag and borrow trip is because he shut down the u.s. fossil fuel center largely. he shut down production and transport, pipelines, fracking, drilling and that is why we are facing the problem we are facing. this is the notion to go to saudi arabia to beg for oil, beg for peace or propose there is an avid way to contribute to

regional peace and put a unified bar up against iran and stop iran and i don't know how to call it really, a farce, a piece that iran will be nonnuclear peer that is not going to happen. make it clear that there is a wall of unified opposition to a nuclear iran. and then reopen u.s. energy sector. you are absolutely right. this is sort of a child learning late in the game how to play the game. this is chess, not checkers. >> carley: iran has enriched uranium to make a nuclear bomb within weeks if it wants to according to robert malik is trying to negotiate the iran nuclear deal. is it possible to have an iran that isn't nuclear capable at this point? >> you know, i think it is possible, it is always possible. the way that you prevent a war

is to be convincingly prepared to fight it and to win it appeared to have an alliance that makes clear you shouldn't walk down that path. iran is on a reckless course. they've been on a reckless course. donald trump with his sanctions actually began to bring them back on course again. but the bottom line is, you have to be prepared for the worse, but you always have to be working to try to deter come in this case, deter nuclear iran. because nuclear iran is a terrorist state. i don't think anybody frankly and reality that wants to see that. >> todd: secretary of state antony blinken said president biden will have an opportunity to meet with xi jinping in the weeks ahead. the question for you, how can president biden, who let's say, we saw this on friday, literally had trouble reading a teleprompter going to hold his own with a ruthless leader like

president xi. >> that is an excellent question. we've had long had since '79 strategic ambiguity which is one china but supported taiwan and we have actually sent all kinds of defensive weapons including fighter aircraft and naval vessels et cetera. and i think biden has migrated us to strategic confusion. on one hand he said he would defend taiwan but then he backed down and said, "no he wouldn't." a man who seems to be more off of his game really not to be all there negotiating with someone like president xi who is all there and declared himself dedicated to world dominance is probably a formula for getting taken a village of. i would say that china needs to get clear messages from our military and diplomatic community that we will defend taiwan and we always said that we would defend taiwan. but they shouldn't be shaking the policy or train or bite off

pieces of the far east in the islands where we lost thousands of men in world war ii. but we should be focus to keep them in their own boundaries. that is the mission of the next several decades or in the next several years and the next several months. the bottom line is china is a threat. they are the largest threat to the united states that can be very little question about that. and economic threats, military threats, and they want to lay in a thousand idms and the next eight years. we should be directly -- we are doing exactly what i mentioned to iran. we should prevent work to be prepared to fight and win one. that is strength, peace through strength, a strategy of both reagan and trump. >> carley: michael waltz on the threat china poses to the united states. listen to what he has to say. >> do you do business with a chinese company or do you do business in china, you allow the

researchers into your labs, they are going to steal your intellectual property. they will set up a competitor, states subsidize it, put you out of business, and then dominate the market. historians will look back at all of this and say, "you funded your greatest competitor. you funded america to your demise." >> carley: robert trying to make the largest ammunition, pharmaceutical, president biden wants to take up green energy route. they make the solar panels as well. so given all that and how reliant we are to china, how do you square that circle? >> it is two very important points. what he wants is the same and conjecture and not looking forward to. it is where we are right now. we are highly dependent, as you just described, we are highly dependent on china. the second point is because we are highly dependent, we need to pull back. we need to find energy dependent but pharmaceutically

independent. and we need to put this idea of renewable energy in perspective. it is a good idea, but it's not going to supplant the 60% of our power grid that comes from fossil fuels. china knows that by the way, and china is responsible for twice the amount of emissions that we are. then we are. so i think at the end of the day, china is the threat that congressman waltz described appeared to your point, we need to be prepared to become more independent to support our allies, and there are very serious questions that tied the biden family to china. they have not been answered. i think those go a long way to explain how we ended up in the position where we seem to be closer to a ruthless communist country than we are too many allies in europe. >> carley: former assistant secretary of state robert charles, thank you for joining us. >> thank you. >> carley: considering drastic action to expand abortion rights with supreme court decision to

school shootings and other social economics they have to deal with and how to add to that in places like san francisco and los angeles where i live, having to deal with walking through, in many cases, homeless encampments and having the homeless people camped on the lawn in front of their schools, people coming and threatening the kids in school, i've seen this personally and asked to stop. >> todd: how can you learn under these conditions? just horrible. a quick chronology, the school was there and january, doctor, of this year of the city of san francisco said great idea. let's really add a center close to the school where addicts can do drugs whenever and wherever they want. now, this allegedly is the only pathway to and from the school. who the heck thought this was a good idea? >> well, this shows you how san francisco tends to think. this is a problem that is more unique to san francisco than l.a. it is a sad event that a large

homeless population and proliferated significantly. when you look at los angeles with a large homeless population very recently, the city council passed a law man lives banning a homeless camp within a distance of school. this makes a lot of sense. san francisco needs to do the same thing because again, the kids have to do so much already to learn in school without all the other stressors, adding something like this to it doesn't make sense. the people of san francisco keep saying they are doing these things out of compassion. they are technically doing it out of compassion for the homeless. don't they have compassion for everybody else, particularly the children? none of this make sense. >> todd: the budget the next couple of years up to $1.2 billion, billion! to deal with "the homeless crisis there." so much of that, doc to facilitate drug use at for the homeless. how bad and counterproductive is that idea question rick >> well, look at the dat, the more money

they put towards all of these programs that either just give housing alone or encourage drug use by supplying new needles wis for injection without forced rehabilitation against their will if asked to be out of compassion. the more they will continue doing it. you see that, right, with a legalization of hard drugs throughout california, san francisco, and elsewhere. with all these policies, putting all that money, huge amount of taxes into it in order to simply encourage drug use and attract more homelessness. we sold the problem explode. if they took a fraction of the money and forced rehabilitation for mental health, forced mental rehabilitation for drug use and appropriate affordable shelters, not expensive $1 million, $2 million condo looks like l.a. are building but legitimately affordable in areas outside of popular interest, we would solve

where's the compassion and that? >> exactly. i know speaking personally on our property here, we have seen all along have had young adults come through our property and there 20s. in in the past month many that are juveniles, 17 or younger. and it is scary. these cartels are promising the juveniles free passage over here and not telling them they will be cramped in a semi trailer with 100 other people left to die. they are not telling them, you will be involved in a bailed out possibly. 110 degrees out in a pasture. it is very scary. >> carley: what you are describing is you have strangers crossing through your property day and night. that sounds dangerous. can you elaborate how that makes you and your family feel? >> it is very unnerving,

extremely, knowing people on your property. with had several bailouts lately in this heat where just behind our house hiding in the brush. we actually had the sheriff's department call us late one day with 108 degrees out. there were three illegals hiding in the brush at our house and use their cell phones to call 911 because they felt they were going to die basically. they were given coordinates and thankfully, we were able to get border patrol to help us locate these individuals. >> todd: unbelievable. stephanie, the obvious and expected response for the biden administration, look, federal government is in charge of immigration. you, texas abbott and bringing them back to the mexico border. obviously the ridiculousness of that is the biden administration is doing nothing to solve the problem but this is ultimately what they will lean on. if they are successful in if biden is successful in a court of law what do the fine folks of

52% this approve, border security, 58% disapprove of president biden's handling of that. guns come up 60% disapprove and the economy 60% disapprove and n inflation 6067% with hunter biden handling of the laptop. you don't regret voting for biden but you are not happy with the direction of the company. >> of course not. i tend to err more on the side of being a progressive. we are just upset about the direction of the country as anyone else. i think during the obama administration, president biden is a funny, cool, old guy and old joe everybody calls him. how bad could he possibly be? sure, he's not an effective legislator if you look at his track record of, but we were told by the dnc and everybody he will be fine. he will push a progressive agenda and check all of the boxes that all of you are

thinking about. he will be one of the most progressive leaders. none of that has a ring true, obviously. he has gone back on so many -- and as a democrat, i do not regret voting for him. i just he's not going to be able to run again. there is just no way. >> carley: before we have midterm elections coming up in november and a presidential election two years from then. what do you think the future of the democratic party is and how will you vote moving forward? >> i wish we had a multiparty system like many european nations have. i'm in england right now and boris johnson has just lost the confidence of his own party. there were many candidates out there trying to secure the prime minister ship. i just feel that the two party system in our country is a

tremendous failure. i'm issue-oriented, and i will vote for anyone who puts the children first. i keep receipt. i know where people stood a year ago, two years ago when we were fighting to reopen schools. the teachers unions can try to rewrite history, but we were there and we fought for the kids. anyone who fights for the kids and stands up for normalcy and doesn't use children as political pawns can have my vote. >> carley: last question to you, mikaela. you are a single mom working hard to do the best for your child. inflation is impacting families, dual income families. what is life like for you now? >> well, it has been really hard. i mean, biden shutdown keystone pipeline. like they wanted this presidency and honestly, i feel like the country here is no longer self sufficient because of him
