6:04 am
you'll hear a lot about these toss-up states, the districts. this is the house now. this is what we see with your majority at 218. the reason why we're so confident to predict republicans take majority in the house is this number on the right, dana. we believe they have 192 solid republican seats right now in the bag. for something to change now it would have to be significant in order for democrats to move from 141 up to the area we see here with republicans at 192. why does this happen? well, you could talk about the biden policies. you could talk about the last year and a half. you could also talk about history. bill clinton's first mid-term lost 58 in the house. george bush is the exception. he gained it. security was a big issue here at home and overseas coming off
6:05 am
9/11. obama lost many seats and you see what history tells you pretty much stacked up against joe biden. that's on the house. now on the senate this is a much more interesting story because we simply do not know what can happen here. we showed you the house. here is the senate. right now 50/50 majority. number of toss-ups much smaller. the numbers much smaller as well in the senate. you will hear a lot over the next four months about 5 to 8 senate races across the country and those five to eight toss-up races will determine the majority in the u.s. senate come mid november. as of today that's our power ranking. that's the way we see it. always subject to change but reality and mid-july is republicans are in the driver's seat. >> dana: we'll see if it changes if at all.
6:06 am
let's bring in our panel. one from the rnc and one from the dnc. you see the numbers today. "the new york times" poll if you are in the white house today it is not a welcome one you are looking at. one thing stuck out to me, the number of young people under 30. 94% of democrats under the age of 30 said they would prefer a different presidential nominee. can the president try to win them back? >> absolutely. i think first we have to look at statistics and history. we know the party in power loses seats. will we lose seats? we are? is it possible the republicans control the house? it is likely but by how much? we see strong economic numbers to benefit joe biden. gas prices have started to come down. i think that's beneficial for him. most economists say inflation peaked in june. do we see inflation come down in the next four months? i think we have time, four
6:07 am
months is a lot of time in the political arena. i think joe biden will do just fine come the mid-terms. but again we have four months. let's see what happens. >> dana: doug, you worked at the rnc in 2010 and you were getting ready for the mid-term for all the things that jose just said do you think the president has time to turn things around on the economy where call for number three most important issue facing the country new fox poll shows the economy and inflation, cost of living together that's 35%. >> i think the challenge for joe biden and democrats is let's say inflation falls by half. we're still talking about a 4.5% or 4% inflation right which is still too high. it's one of the things democrats are going to struggle with. when i was at the rnc in 2010 our magic obama was 46. if he was at or below that we would take back the house. biden's numbers are well below that. when you look at where
6:08 am
democrats are failing is those numbers and where they can only really hope is that republicans and we saw this in 2010, 2012 and 14 as well, nominate bad candidates. in missouri talking to voters if they nominate bad republicans who potentially turn very winnable seats into loseable seats republicans can fall. that's the democrats' best hope at this point. >> bill: doug, hold that thought a moment here. guys, go for call for number 6 that comes after this segment. i want to ask you about this. the president is blaming republicans for all the problems on inflation, that's issue number one. react to this from the tweet. republicans are doing nothing but obstructing our efforts to crack down on gas -- and hopefully lower prescription drug cost. it is why the elect thun will be important. it will be very important.
6:09 am
how do you blame the other party? when you have the house and senate and you have all the power in washington, d.c. >> i get that but at the end of the day you need republicans to get things done. it's a democracy. part of it has to be with republicans. they are obsessed with the new polls that say 80% of the country think we're going in the wrong direction. i'm frustrated we're going in the wrong direction as well. the president is trying to get things done for the american people and republicans say we won't get it done with the biden seal that's not negotiating or compromise. i think that the american people get frustrated let's get things done. we got the infrastructure bill all democrats. some sort of gun reform bill that's beneficial but we need republicans to get the rest of the things to happen. they don't want to do it because they understand if they do it biden will take credit and it will hurt republicans come november. republicans have some of the

blame. absolutely, 100%. >> dana: let's give you 30 seconds to respond to that. >> the party that's in the minority never helps the majority. that's the rule in politics. maybe a good rule or bad rule. democrats didn't want to help the trump agenda or bush agenda or other bush or reagan. that's the reality in politics. if you're in the minority your job is to vote no. good or bad that's the reality we're in. >> bill: thanks to both of you. >> dana: good to see you. >> bill: unveiling the big power rankings we have in 20226789 >> dana: i love a day like that. i like the little information. the other thing is that people are wondering is how much will the roe v. wade weigh in on -- you see a little bit of movement but not a lot. here is the vice president harris talking about abortion as the mid-term issue of the day. >> we need to understand that states are passing laws because of what the supreme court has
6:11 am
now allowed to happen. so what does this mean? it means that we're looking at elections coming up in 120 something days. they will be about who serves in congress and we need a pro-choice congress. >> bill: they have an issue. how big it becomes we don't know yet. >> dana: i said fox news poll "the new york times" poll that came out last night has of all the issues important to you facing the country, abortion is at 5%. some democrats will look and say we have just gotten started but the other way to look at that is to say if you look at independent voters and women maybe you hide that off. in the "new york times" poll gender gap of democrats of 20 points on abortion as an important issue exists. i don't know if it's the key issue that vice president harris would like it to see. >> bill: today we're off and running. >> dana: i'm running. absolutely. there was a tweet fight brewing. elon musk fires back to twitter
