your gratitude to those americans who give them, the highest french decoration. >> a fourth american veteran came ashore in france was not able to be at the embassy but he will also receive his medal legion of honor medal. back to you. >> martha: extraordinary ceremony. i had the honor to attend one of those. thank you very much. >> bill: nice to be with you. >> martha: nice to be with you. >> bill: see you at 3:00. here is harris. bye-bye. >> harris: fox news alert. the nation learning that consumers are about to get hit by a new problem with the economy. the companies which make the goods that we buy are now being hit by record breaking prices. this is from a new inflation report now out this morning. and why is the biden administration still trying to pass the blame? who knows? it's not working.
8:01 am
i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus". the producer price index up 11.3% over last year. now adding to fears of a recession compounding trouble for americans after yesterday's consumer prices index hit a four-decade high. notice the number on the left for wholesale prices, the goods being made for us, is cooking hotter than the inflation that we're faced with. now how long do you think it will take for them to pass that along to the consumer? will they even have a choice? former trump economic advisor explains it this way. >> i would like to walk through how you should think about inflation so people understand why. if you start the car at zero and accelerate 10 miles per hour per month after six months you go 60 miles per hour and
8:02 am
after 12 months 120 miles per hour. what's my velocity right now is what you care about. we're hiding how big the increase in prices are that are affecting ordinary americans by a very large amount. inflation is startlingly high right now. >> harris: president biden yesterday down played that crisis. here is what he said. calling the numbers out of date and saying that it is not as bad as it looks. his administration officials echoed the same talking points. >> this number that came out today half of it is driven by energy and that is outdated. >> some of that again is a bit out of date. >> this inflation has its roots in the pandemic. snarled supply chains like other countries around the world and now we have russia's war against ukraine. >> it's a global phenomenon. >> harris: just so we get this
8:03 am
straight you noticed what was the first talking point there. the numbers are old. the president flew that bird yesterday. i don't know why it landed. why is it when the numbers are good for them the numbers are fresh in the same time period? anyway, americans are worried and rightfully so. >> seeing it mainly in things we try to buy all the time. eggs, orange juice for some reason is real expensive. >> i just have a few items that cost me $65 and i was wondering what did i purchase? inflation is just ridiculous. >> all i got is this and water and it came up to $177. it's crazy. >> harris: congresswoman stefanik, you introduced a bill yesterday to hold the biden administration accountable for inflation rocking beyond a generation. >> yes, harris, i introduced
8:04 am
the rein in inflation. any executive action taken by president biden there is a study and understanding of the inflationary impact. so we know since joe biden has taken office, there has been through his executive action nearly half a trillion dollars costing american people. that has headlight the fire unfortunately for this runaway inflation train. i will tell you, harris, you just played the clips of the american people suffering from inflation. we continue to see joe biden and house democrats downplay this. first they said it was a high class problem. then transitory, then they said it was temporary. then they blamed the war in ukraine. the american people are smart. they know that these numbers aren't out of date. the reason they know that they feel the pain whether paying for grocery bills, gas at the pump or everyday goods and services. this is the highest rate of inflation we've seen in a generation. >> harris: you mentioned the bill that you have put together
8:05 am
now, the rein in inflation act. part of it is the steps to do a build back better plan again, this would deal with that. that would be printing more money, putting more money into a system basically free money which is where we got where we are now. so check this out. chad pergram, our producer on the hill, wrote build back better budget fight returns amid more inflation. former trump economic advisor steve moore says more spending will make inflation worse. let's watch. >> that's $600 billion of new taxes on small businesses. $300 billion of new green energy subsidies. we're spending money on green energy. has new regulations on drug industry and increase government spending and government taxes by another trillion dollars. that is pouring kerosene on a forest fire. >> harris: you must see something that we don't know
8:06 am
yet. you must see something happening on the hill where you think even more spending is coming. >> certainly the build back better agenda is the largest tax increase and the largest spending bill ever proposed in our nation's history. if that passes, steve moore is exactly right. the economist who stated it is pouring fuel on the already raging inflation fire. what we don't need now is more reckless spending. that's what has led to this inflation. you shouldn't continue to double down on this failed tax and spend agenda when people are really hurting for this. we need to rein in our spending and why my bill is called the rein in inflation act to make sure there is an understanding of any executive action taken by the president. canceling the pipeline and all those decisions impact inflation in a way that increases and fuels it. so that is dead on arrival for house republicans. we'll oppose any more reckless spending let alone the fact
8:07 am
that so many of the spending bills in terms of the one-party packages that really didn't relate to covid, there are billions of dlrs of unspent money. it hasn't been spent. democrats are considering trillion dollar packages on top of that, which those dollars have not gone out the door. what we don't hear from house democrats or this administration is what they are going to do to rein in inflation. they are not having prime time hearings on the number one issue really hurting the american people whether it's small businesses, families, farms, you name it. >> harris: talk to me a little bit. i know it's unspent but is there an innooum ration someplace? >> it's tens of billions in covid. we were asked this week do we need another covid package? the answer is absolutely not.
8:08 am
they're been unspent. even in my state in new york much of the funds sent to new york state we had to work so hard to make sure that those dollars were given to local school districts and cutting through bureaucracies. make sure the intent is meant. that's how mismanaged this economy has been under this administration one party democrat rule. >> harris: they could not prioritize at a high level money that this president ran on. >> correct. >> harris: they couldn't prioritize managing that money. >> correct. >> harris: that's bad. pressure is mounting on the biden administration to go further on abortion rights. you heard the president talking about it this week. house democrats are now pushing the president to declare a public health emergency where abortion is concerned. they claim the u.s. supreme court's roe reversal creates a full scale reproductive health crisis and they are looking for federal government intervention.
8:09 am
the white house, president biden has said they will consider that. congresswoman. >> house democrats are putting on the floor the most radical abortion on demand paid for by the taxpayers up until and after birth just this week. i will tell you that goes much further than codifying roe, the talking point they use. as the american people learn more about this legislation it is radical. 80% of the american people oppose late term abortions. this bill as i said provides taxpayer funding and legalizes abortion up and after birth babies born alive particularly premature babies. we're proud to stand for life as republicans and stand in opposition to any taxpayer dollars going towards funding abortion. we will oppose this bill and the democratic party has shifted. it was not so long ago the democrats own platform was abortion should be safe, legal and rare. how much it changed to on demand paid for by the taxpayers up until birth.
8:10 am
>> harris: has there always been up until and after birth and you described what that would be like and that is heartbreaking. i don't know -- that may be why you can't get democrat women to agree to get to that point, right? probably why they didn't codify it when obama was in office when they had majority. >> we had the born alive protection bill that house republicans are proud to support. we passed that in a house republican majority and that's standing for life. born alive babies deserve the right to life. there is a reason life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness that life comes first. we saw the democrat governor in virginia shamefully talk about a baby holding that baby comfortable before killing that child. that is not where the american people are. that's what i mean when i say up until and after birth. we stand for life. we are proud to stand for life and we will oppose this very radical anti-life agenda that we're seeing from house democrats pushing on the floor.
8:11 am
as we look around the globe, harris, it puts us on the level with north korea and china. european countries have limits in terms of late-term abortion. what democrats are proposing puts us on the level with north korea and china. i don't want to be in that group of countries when it comes to our position on life. >> harris: there is very little that we want to be yoked with those countries about. congresswoman stefanik, thank you for being in "focus." president biden on his expected meeting with saudi arabia and their leader. remember when he called that government a pariah following the killing of an american columnist? well, all this as the president gets more blowback now. he is trying to get israel on board with a new iran nuclear deal. how is that going? >> this is a terrible deal. a great deal if you are part of the govern regime in iran. it is a bad deal for everyone
8:12 am
else, especially the american people and israel. >> harris: president's hard sell on the nuke deal as israel prime minister is telling the president diplomacy won't work with iran. only the threat of force will work. joey jones in "focus" next.

8:18 am
from getting nukes. >> president biden: made it absolutely clear we will not, we'll say it again. we will not allow iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. i continue to believe diplomacy is the best way to achieve this outcome. >> we must stop them, mr. president. diplomacy will not stop them. the only way to stop them is to put a credible military threat on the table. >> harris: that is really a difference of opinion. white house correspondent peter doocy has more live from jerusalem. >> president biden is hoping for diplomacy with iran and a second crack at the iran nuclear deal. he is also reassuring leaders here in israel that the u.s. would as a very last resort use american military might to prevent iran from getting a nuke if it came to that. to make that point official, president biden signed onto a
8:19 am
joint declaration part of that saying the united states stresses integral to the pledge is the commitment never to allow iran to acquire a nuclear weapon and prepared to use all elements of its national power to insure that outcome. no meeting with iran this trip. he will huddle with saudi leaders and wants the focus of that meeting to advance american interests in the region so middle eastern countries do business with the u.s. instead of china or russia. >> president biden: when i see the saudi leadership tomorrow i will be carrying a direct message, a message of peace and extraordinary opportunities that a more stable and integrated region to bring to the region and the whole world. >> president biden does not want talk to veer into the murder of "washington post" journalist jamal khashoggi whose murder was approved by the crown prince he will meet with tomorrow according to the
8:20 am
u.s. intel community. the president won't commit to bringing up the murder tomorrow. >> president biden: i always bring up human rights. i always bring up human rights. my position on khashoggi has been so clear. if anyone doesn't understand it in saudi arabia or anywhere else they haven't been around for a while. >> and so the president is basically saying if somebody wants to know what he says about khashoggi's murder just google it. there will be a lot of questions that we have at the end of that meeting with the saudi crown prince but we're told not to expect a biden press conference on the ground in saudi arabia and we have no idea whether or not that meeting will open up for any kind of coverage at this point. >> harris: i don't know if this is being talked about where you are yet because it was just news a little while ago. admiral kirby who is a spokesperson within the white house now since being the spokesperson for the pentagon said that in his conversations
8:21 am
the president does fully understand the khashoggi situation but just didn't telegraph it. i don't know if it means it will come up. from you just reported it doesn't sound like it. >> well, if he was going to bring it up and he wanted the world to know he was going to bring it up he could have just said that. we'll see. >> harris: there you go. my plain speaking colleague peter doocy. thank you. now i'm joined by joey jones fox news contributor, fox nation host and retired marine bomb technician and a veteran of both the wars in iraq and afghanistan. we will lean on him mightily for expertise and guidance. always good to have you in "focus." you heard the difference between what our president thinks will work, pure diplomacy, and what the prime minister of israel says he knows will work and that's a threat of force. what is your take? >> i think it's tough to be president biden in israel right
8:22 am
now. if you jux to pose where he is in the entire middle east but especially where israel but to where president trump was it is an astonishing difference. he moved the embassy to jerusalem and struck the abraham accords and made iran the pariah. president biden has attempted to make saudi arabia the pariah. pretty interesting outlooks as to who we can work with and who we can't. you might say president trump tried cozy up to north korea to get something done. what was the kol rat ral he put on the line? it doesn't cost us anything for us for president trump to visit north korea. for president biden to try to cozy up to iran, we're looking at the original iran deal which allowed iran to tap into hundreds of millions of dollars that was seized. it really under the guise of
8:23 am
oversight took away all accountability and knowing in the obama administration the republicans were against it signing such a deal meant it was going to go away. in this country we can change presidents every four years and obama knew he wouldn't be president a third term. what i mean by that everything the biden administration is doing undoes what president trump did or goes on a different path than president trump set out creates a sense of untrust among israel, saudi arabia and iran. they know president biden is unpopular a good chance he won't run again. he doesn't have leverage. president trump understood how to work immediate leverage, not long-term leverage. he knew he had no more than four years guaranteed. president bide ep doesn't seem to understand that. when you go to saudi arabia hat in hand after you've been to everywhere else looking for oil and gas you are begging. if you are begging on the heels
8:24 am
of attempting to in your first year make saudi arabia a pariah for sins they committed. i don't doubt they committed the sins. what leverage do you have? president trump's position of leverage regardless short term or long term seemed to show some sort of opportunity. we don't have that with president biden and i don't think world leaders are looking at him the say way. >> harris: general jack keane was talking about the things the president had to get done. the president goes and makes a hard sell to israel. the president is giving the highest award that country gives and yet he will make a hard sale about doing a deal with israel's enemy. what does that make us look like on the world stage? you talk about leverage in those relationships. we have other enemies in the world. >> well, if you will take a 30,000 foot view it is grim. look at afghanistan, look at ukraine, look at our inaction
8:25 am
on china. look at trying to make saudi arabia a pariah while cozying up to iran. every stated foreign policy position we have seems to be undermined or soft pedaled by this administration. i want to take a step back and say i hope president biden is successful. i would rather eat crow on this network than see our country be less secure and the world less stable two weeks from now because it doesn't yield any kind of product. this is not a personal interest partnership. i'm not running for office any time soon. between abraham accords and knowing how to handle the atrocity saudi arabia did commit and i wish president trump had done something more immediate and obvious and more sticking in the wake of jamal khashoggi's murder to have moved past it by now. we don't get to make our friends pass a purity test and they do commit sins and be
8:26 am
honest about it. the real world consequences does khashoggi mean we loosen our relationship with saudi arabia and they align with russia and china and more people are killed. that doesn't make sense, either. >> harris: you bring this up. the widow of jamal khashoggi was on with "america's newsroom" not long ago. what you are talking about is what it costs us around the world. sometimes it can cost us at home, too. let's watch. >> i will tell him you will regret if you know the truth about jamal. and anyone involved in this crime they will regret. >> harris: so what she was saying is those were the words that she would wish that biden would tell the crown prince. those would be the words she would say to the crown prince. do you think those are the words that the crown prince might hear from president biden based on what we saw today?
8:27 am
>> why would they? what purpose does it serve our interests? listen, president biden and the leader of saudi arabia mbs, they're meeting for personal interest. saudi arabia don't want iran to get stronger. president biden is tapping him for oil and the abraham accord he can't. neither one will enjoy or like the other. saudi arabia is buying more arms from china than they ever have. they are moving towards russia and china. president biden's mission should be to stop that from happening. no words other than murder, atrocity, sin, whatever terrible word you want to pile on top of what happened to khashoggi is true. if we will use the heartache of a widow to direct our foreign policy, i will line them up out the door for men that died in
8:28 am
afghanistan while our country continued to lobby with and shake hands with the taliban last august. so i don't understand how that will determine your foreign policy. >> harris: they won't listen to crying widows or the children of those people who died. i totally get it. >> not to diminish her heart act and not say saudi arabia isn't sinful. we need partners and i see saudi arabia as a better partner than iran if president biden is looking to make one or the other. >> harris: you are talking geo politics versus having a heart and sometimes as you point out it is difficult to walk the balance between the two. but the bigger ping -- picture in all of this is how the world sees our president and how he is doing at home. those are problems simultaneously. thank you very much for being with me today as always. let's look live now. this is the southern border in eagle pass, texas. this is what i mean when we
8:29 am
talk about what is happening while the president is away. basically chatting with other people about their foreign policy and how they keep their commitments to the people in their country. what about the commitments that he has in this country? massive groups of illegal immigrants trying to make their way across and some of them are migrating here as refugees, some of them want to get to the legal process to get in here but they're lumped in with all the rest and they try to come through and they out number and out resource so many things at the border. our border agents, the resources to sustain them. can we covid test everybody? no. so much happening there. our bill melugin is coming up with a report and tell us what's happening on the ground. plus 2024 democratic hopefuls are pulling no punches against a potential rival. florida governor ron desantis. do you remember this?

there and just about every woman in america might rather have a poster of tom cruise than other people who might run. you talk about florida. gavin newsom spending money on ads in florida. but you have pritzker now and with his recent commitment to headline the florida democrats' annual gala this weekend, that is an interesting development. clearly democrats on the other side of the aisle are looking at that governor down there and how will even pritzker of illinois, governor since 2019, and you can see some details on the screen there his family owns the hyatt hotel chain. another businessman. how does he match up? >> the same problem. you have the crime rate in chicago, which is horrendous. you have tax policy which is driven several of the biggest corporations in illinois to
8:41 am
leave the state. the problem the democrats have is that all of the big blue states run by democrats have very high crime rates, very high tax rates, very high unemployment rates. there is no accident that virtually all the states -- something steve moore has pointed out again and again in miss newsletter -- almost all of the red states are doing dramatically better than almost all of the blue states. so how do they run for president saying i'll do for you what i did for illinois? you too can have high taxes, unemployment and crime. that's what pritzker's problem will be. >> harris: we recently reported that coming out of the pandemic economically, just one category of how the red states are doing better than blue states. they are doing so much better that you do have what i'm starting to call the u haul migration. i'm not kidding about this.

there was a complaint that u haul's ending up from arizona and florida and leaving california. it is an interesting migration of money and citizenry and then i have to talk about your book. >> the fact is there a price difference. if you take a vehicle from california to utah, you have a big fee because there are so many going. you want to take a u haul or idaho or utah to california it is a low fee. nobody is doing it. that's a very useful indicator is u haul index. you see in florida, for example, a tribute not just to desantis but scott and going back to jeb bush. florida is so well run that they are getting 3,000 new people a day moving in.

mid-term. polling now shows a surprisingly tight race for control of congress with democrats and republicans neck-and-neck. you will remember yesterday molly hemingway, the editor in chief of the federalist was on with me and doesn't like the poll because she doesn't think there could be this closeness. she thinks republicans based on a lot of other polling she has seen are bigger in their category and democrats are losing mightily. but based on "the new york times," democrats and republicans neck-and-neck. watch this. >> nobody actually believes that democrats have an advantage. what we all know is that democrats are facing horrific losses. nobody thinks they are going to have a 1% advantage in the november elections. if you do, you should get out of political punditry probably. >> harris: charlie hurt from the washington times and fox news contributor. david car lucci a former democratic new york state senator. great to see you both.

charlie, i'll start with you and your reaction. >> i think that first of all molly is exactly right. i take all these polls with a grain of salt. i think the underlying issue is real when you look at the pattern of these sorts of polls. democratic party has a problem on their hands. they are quickly becoming the party of privileged white voters, not where you want to be for a party invested so much effort into this what we call oouf amisticly identity politics that i have always called racism. they divide voters by race, gender and creed and find wedge issues to divide the people. it is has been the democratic party has been doing it for a long time and chickens are coming home to roost. >> harris: the complicated nature of what you just said is where we got to this week with human beings being called tacos. it is that compartmentalization.

david, as charlie took a look at those numbers he saw it as privilege and that the democrats have gotten too much in that lane now. what is your take? >> i think this polling shows us that as bad as things look for democrats, it is even worse for republicans. the fact that you have a poll showing it's this tight when we know historically the sitting president's party always does bad in the mid-terms. and with news of the inflation, of covid coming out of that and going back in we have a lot of problems. but the president is showing that his message and his plan is working in regards to fighting inflation. he is using the very few tools available and he is using them well. the dollar is the strongest it has been in decades. we have -- we're seeing inflation starting to subside. these are the issues. >> harris: whoa, are you talking about a different country? did you see the producers index
