to die. what did you mean by that? >> his name is never going to die. as long as he has myself -- his siblings, his family, his friends, his name is always going to be alive we're going keep it alive one way or another we may not be here physically but his name is always going stay alive. >> we have his smiling face on the screen it is contagious infectious. king, you're been working in the community forking while. we're actually doing this interview from inside of your school that's going to be opening up this fall. what do our leaders need to do to solve this problem? >> i think a lot of our leaders blame children for not having things to do and not givenning them things to do but no changing mind set for boys, people are say we can give them a basketball and football but what are we doing to change

their mindset we have to give them god and change minds we have to raise their minds and their pants will follow to raise minds and grades will follow we have to raise minds in our communities will follow husbands will grow. communities will be saved and this is why we're doing what we're doing here at the x for boys school, nigel death is one of the many reasons why we are doing what we're doing here in city of albany if or boys because they don't have any safe haven he was an innocent kid and he was at risk because of the city of albany most dangerous in the country and we have to do something about it. we can't continue begs politicians or leaders we have to do something for ourselves in our community and elbow if all of us stand up together and do something together, we can all mac it happen. >> mr. brown i've been covering this story for a while. death after death all across the country, in many times people tend to victim blame why don't you just move out of the community, why don't you just

leave? i know in my case my family didn't have the means to do that. what do you tell people out there? >> why move? haven can happen here and somewhere else. so us running from this city to another city doesn't change nothing. the gun still out there. the victims still out there. the ones who doing it, they still out there. we have to change something else. not run away from it. lawrence: yeah. king she talks to the situation right there. addressing the problem head-on. can you talk about because you mentor so many young boys. and, obviously, nigel just got caught by a drive through shooting -- but there's boys that are choosing violence that don't have a choice in many cases. can you talk about how you're meeting the gangs where they are and providing alternative for those young men out there?

>> absolutely. many of the young men i work with from our juvenile court system completely changed their lives simply from giving them consistently and love people think mentorship is giving school speech or you are going to tiewk a child no it is every day. but this will be a boarding school for students will be able to come leave their environment, and come had have a safe space. i boarded many of those children at my home at 19 years old here i am 22 years old now, and we're trying to mold these children. i believe if we can give them true king the king consistency d safe space they can thrive and they can't where they are right now and none of our leadership is doing anything about it. nobody that we're electing, nobody that we're looking up to. everybody that we're posting for they're not doing anything for us. we have to get out there and do these things for ourselves i always say every man should be responsible for one child if not his and i believe there are enough men you know in our communities where we can get up

and go do something with a child find a family to feed take a kid to school every day. mentor a child. you know and it is not just a once a week thing or to take a picture. like we have to truly change our mindset and this is what we're trying to do here with the school for boys here in city of albany we can truly do this and this will be change starting in ablg, georgia that will go around the nation. lawrence: so true our leaders will not save us no will to do so. but you're doing work that ms. brown prayers for you and your family as we remember nigel thank you so much for joining the program. >> thank you. >> thank you. lawrence: now to this remember how we warned that crime wouldn't stay isolated solely in inner city. let's move just three hours north of albany to atlanta. where those who live and work in buck head community wasting crime surge and neighborhood they're saying breaking away from city of atlanta entirely may be the only way to ensure

safety if leaders don't step up. watch. >> our families and businesses feel that we've been exploited for way too long you know we've spend a lot of hard earn dollars down to city hall we never know where money is going. and then some things started to creep up that have become very dangerous for our health and safety, and indeed our lives. >> what is it like on the day-to-day basis here? >> we've got murder, shootings, carjackings, home invasions, they try to steal our car out of our garage. my sister-in-law had her house invaded with my niece and nephew just left thank god and people are saying enough is enough. crime is through the roof. the way they have treated the police in atlanta they've quit and major numbers 400 cops have quit. how does that impact you guys as a result of -- >> our cops left -- what does buck head look like? >> well we have a murder rate of

140% during that time period. our shootings are up approximately 160%. our big question here is where is all of our money been going all of these years? our budgets show when we're in control of the money we normally send to atlanta, we can have three times as many police officers that we have right now. and also sew 100 million dollar surplus. so when i explain that to people people say wow. so where is all of that money going we're sending to city hall and we don't know answers city governments that have violated their oath of office, their first mission is to protect and keep people safe. if you're not keeping families and mothers and grandfathers and businesses and people that you love safe, you don't want to live in a community like that. lawrence: why even got involved in this dispute that's going on between buck head and atlanta? >> well, being the ceo founder

of jury company we're based internationally but clientele is based here in buck head i've had to rework how i do my business. i've had to put a little bit more thought into where i meet my clients. even with social media, i've, you know, reworked my business model to be able to promote things online and -- i don't people to know really where i am and what time i'll be there and i frequently don't show things in real time and i would never want to put any of my clients in any compromising position so -- it is just been interesting to see that. and watching the brick and motor companies here that have either moved out of buck head or even looking at the companies that are second guesses coming to atlanta and buck head. >> why this was prabble to table of a crime being a major issue affecting all people. did they make the buck head from

atlanta about race and say these are racist people? >> you know, i felt like people in general are very lazy when it comes to a lot of things, and i think that that was more of an easy way out so that they don't have to explain themselves. >> uh-huh. >> i operate on logic and facts and -- i haven't seen any reason why buck head shouldn't necessarily separate and try to sustain what we have here. long-term, but they don't want to educate on any other reason and i feel like making it about race is just been easiest thing to do. >> do you think there's any fear throe with criminals -- in the sense of the criminals fear the police or do they fear the public or consequences or anything like that? >> i don't think so. the repercussions are very relaxed. i feel like we need a system in place that will deter any criminal from even thinking that

criminal and crime in buck head would be -- >> you don't think they currently exist right now and no mechanism. j i don't. i really don't. i don't think that it is a priority right now. i feel like there needs to be a bigger sense of urgency especially with the -- amount of change that our entire nation is seeing. >> i have a robber come into my house on a friday 2:30 working up stairs in my office i heard glass shatter, and i had no idea what it was. i thought one of my kids maybe dropped a vase or glass went out of my office door, and see a random stranger, a man in my house. >> kept calling 9-1-1 over and over and no assignment going on -- >> i got no live operator i got a recorder saying due to high call volume we can't have anybody answer the phone and whatever recording it was. lawrence: did you ever get an answer? >> on fourth attempt 2:47 p.m. i

got a live operator told them the situation. i did find out later on that they dispatch atlanta police department at 3:53 p.m. mind you i called them at 2:378 p.m. dispatch at 3:53 they came to my house at 4:12 if yapght get a police officer to come to my home when a perpetrator is in my home what is more urgent than that that's when it comes down to basic needs of what a human being needs to feel safe and secure for their family. >> you don't want any special treatment you all want security. >> i want someone to pick up the phone when i call set. >> what a sound bite i want someone to pick up the phone when i call 9-1-1. that may be a model for the country. so up next shark attacks surge across the country i have behind scenes look about how one beach is dealing with problem and one life guard who survived a shark attack.

summer. suffolk county new york five shark attacks have been reported in just two weeks. i went out to smith point beach to see how some experts are dealing with this rise in attacks. watch. >> long island is new york's doorstep a get away future and surf spot of sandy beefs that attract residents and tourists but this week officials urge swimmers to be cautious after multiple people injured from shark attacks. >> sir about how many people visit the beach each summer? >> well tens of thousands this summer dpepgding on day you can have hundred, 6,000 people on this. we've never experienced anything like this before. since this park opened back we've never had one occurring and now in last two weeks we've had that twice here. one our life guards and surfer been in waters for years and who is never experienced something like that. with spike in dangerous marine

lave county officials have turned to new measures to keep beachgoers safe from shark attacks. >> one of the new things we're doing is deploying our drones of we have four drones if one of them is the largest drone most capable one that we've been using most often. >> but describe to me what these drones do. >> so this particular drone has different capabilities they have thermal energy high-definition cameras really just -- it is a good way for us to cost effectively get aerial to see if there's marine life in the area or bay fish and drag them in and with swimmers. i caught up with smith point beach a victim of a shark attack and returned to work and shared his story of the terrifying encounter. >> every day here we do -- rescue scenarios and i was playing the victim during one of those scenarios.

and i'm floating out into the water, waiting for a life guard to come into me all of a sudden i feel a shark. pain and pressure in my hand. so i kind of like pull it in. and realize something is attached to it so i kind of get it -- you know, self-defense survival mode and i start hammer punching -- >> were you hitting shark? >> hitting shark i think in the head. i'm feeling rubber. you know i connected with it three times. and on the third time the whole shark flipped its body tail whip me in the chest and swam away. and that's when i realized we were dealing with a shark. so at that moment, i instructed other life guards get to shore, get to shore, get to shore, and i think i swam faster i don't think i ever swam as fast as i have that moment coming to shore. it was pretty terrifying couple of second there is. >> tell me how bigs was the shark? >> so from my perspective i

thought it was four to five feet. the life guards on beach saw the shark they thought six to eight feet so, you know, we weren't dealing with something small here. again i'm just grateful that my injuries were minor. lawrence: injuries -- >> two stitches in the hand and i had one one tooth mark in my chest. i didn't realized i got nicked in any chest until after i had gotten to shore. you know when i got to -- shore life guards are coming in to assist me. i look for my hand and gushing blood you know we think it's -- pretty bad. you know we apply a tourniquet almost immediately but thankfully once we cleaned it up and realize it wasn't a terrible injury it wasn't a terrible bite, you know, just only two stitches in the hand and bandage. >> how were you tiebl survive there are others worried to be in the water. what did you do -- that allows you tiebl tell me this story? >> well, you know i basically

got into like get away from me get away from me and i know sub consciencely i know sharks weak points are nose, gills and hoping to hit one of the three things. so -- basically thankfully ii was in n area that was presented by life guards. you know we are always on patrol watching waters making sure kind of like people are safe in the water but making sure fellow marine life that could be a possible threat. so you know my thought process was just, you know, get away from me get away from me and i'll get to shore as quickly as possible. >> why are you back at work? >> you know toipght try to inspire people they shouldn't be afraid of the ocean. this is a rare occurrence. you know, i think it is like one in 3.5 million changeses of getting bitten by a shark. and -- >> you don't see that happening again? >> you don't -- neverred heard of anyone getting bitten twice by a shark so -- you know, i'm trying to, you know, motivate people and inspire not to be afraid of the

with this. is he right or wrong on this >> not necessarily wrong that's i love being on this panel with joe to have exchange of ideas and talk about both sides of hot issues facing this country. but i think those numbers are reflective of just general decline of american people with regards to our institutions when it comes to the government when it even comes to our merle. and a lack of trust that we see in these institutions including the media that has been happening over time that erosion of trust which i think is fundamentally dangerous and i think journalist have to come clean whether they have from the right or left. when they're presenting stories i think local news does a really job of that over home plate at all of our different fox affiliates around country of just presenting what is in front of those cities that the reporting in because we immediate to restore trust in those institutions especially with the media. >> i guess what i would say joe.

lawrence: welcome back to cross country let's go to yoo voled, texas three had to be rescued at border patrol unconscience barely alife when law enforcement pulled them from camp train compartments seen in those photos shared on twitter just latest example of the who are risk human smuggling problems stemming from border crisis. now next guest joins us live from eagle pass texas where he's been on the ground but these mass i have groups of migrants for daily color is joining us right now. jorge thank you for joining the program. i've been down there on border with you. you do excellent reporting. it seems likes these groups are getting much larger can you tell us why? >> so lawrence i'm actually spending some time down there in mexico and we've been with migrants and they can tell me they feel that border is completely wide open and these groups they actually start up in

mexico from monterey from monterey they'll go to mexico and then they'll come here and mexican across from us and -- cross illegally and these group are massive lawrence. an issue at the mexican officials have been doing this they've been basically giving these migrants 30-day legal humanitarian visas basically giving a legal pass to travel through mexico essentially giving them 30 days to cross illegally inside united states so mexican officials haven't stopped flow of my graduates and sign four agreements for four mexican state governors one governor here that has not stopped flow of illegal crossings at all. first seven days here lawrence where i am in dell rose sector saw 13,000 migrants encounters in seven days average between 2,000 i spoke deputy who telling me here in the river they're pulling out one it two bodies per day that's only bodies they can find and situation has

gotten drastically worse. lawrence: we heard about cooperation from mexico that's not happening, i'm just curious what is the end goal here? because i'm sure you're on the border and you see where the cartel is helping these folk getting across the border in why aren't mexican officials arresting them? >> that's a question we've been asking lawrence i've been speaking to sources in mexico with my sources in mexico telling me that state police is working with car tells and have been funneling migrants into eagle pass by the thousands. i also asked greg abbott he said governor these governors have not obeyed your agreement at all is there any consequences or will you hold them account ?bl he told us accountability is coming soon for mexican state goarches an waiting from that from abbott and we'll see what that looks like but here resources are strained you can see how overwhelm border patrol are also the local law

enforcement they have to teal with migrant apprehension pulling bodies out of rio tbran day river but situation continues to be worse and mexican govans have not stopped any flow of illegal crossings that was according to agreement with greg abbott back in april we haven't seen that question got with groups into the water with the groups and they continue to cross. we have a group right now that just crossed moments ago they're apprehended right now by the national guard. but right now the sign don't look it just doesn't look good here at all you would expect what we see is during summer time kind of see a dip in illegal crossings but it is the exact opposite especially in del rio sector. >> tell me what's happening with you with migrants coming across the border? >> right now we have a group apprehended by national guard they've been here for two hours but border patrol here so overwhelmed that national guard basically waits for migrants. but this right here is extremely dangerous because the migrants jump into the rio grande river

with a strong current. this is also where the texas national guardsmen drown this river here so crossing here are putting themselves in danger. but they're coming in by hundreds and thousands and right now we have a group that's waiting to be apprehended by border patrol waiting for two hours and we expect they'll still wait couple of hours as border patrol is trying to get a handle on this sector we're seeing explosion of illegal crossings never seen before particularly here in eagle pass. >> i'm short on time is it fair to say because i know this because i'm from the state of texas live in the state of texas that texas dps in national guard that are under command of greg abbott essentially only piflt of our border right? >> yeah they're like the last line of defense, and they're working also with the local law enforcement here, and they're trying to use bodies in resources they can get to get a handle on this but it just -- gotten worse even month even many may and june seen nearly half a million illegal crossings

and by the way half of the books that newsom thinks conservatives are rying to ban are being banned by liberals. to kill a mockingbird is one of those which he was holding in that amazing twitter picture, so -- yeah. we do have a problem with speech in this country but what we're really looking at is compel speech and that case lawrence you showed is a great example of that. >> someone that's in elementary school for saying ridiculous cara let's talk about this as guy that shut down school you were reporting on this early. this is part of the reason why you left new york city and moved to florida -- so what do you think about this guy being so self-righteous right now? >> yeah. he's closed down schools for very long time in california. a while he traipsed around french laundry and public school closed while his kids went to private school that opened they mask for so long for no reason and on and on and now he cares about education.

i really think spare me gavin newsom he's shown no care for the kids of his state absolutely no care for the kids who can't afford to do what his kids have done. and i just think it is a joke for him now to pretend to care about their learning. he doesn't he didn't he won't. lawrence: to move this further keira it doesn't seem like governor or any of these liberals understand what free speech is. california is 50th in education outcomes in the united states. we are dead last. that man had the nerve to go to the white house and actually receive an innovator in education award. we are upside down in this state and there's nothing on the horizon that says we're going dig ourselves out xepght i will say midterm elections in november we have thousands of seat, i think 3400 school board seats open here in the state of california. i'm running for one and many, many, many mom baa bears runs for others so we're going see probably a change in california education coming up soon. i hope -- >> i did get a kick out of gavin newsom where president was taking his coat off walking on the lawn in front seat of the press like he was going to be the next man in the white house. which you're right. yeah. i'm just curious keira diewrng this was a guy can win --
