the men on the scene who jumped in to help the congressmen. are going to be talking to him this morning about everything that went down. >> carley: another eyewitness that has all the breaking details. ashley, good morning. >> new york republican gubernatorial candidate and current congressman lee zeldin did in fact have a campaign stop last night. you can see the man job on stage while zeldin was speaking, police say he approaches, swinging a sharp weapon toward zeldin's neck. that terrifying moment was caught on camera. watch. >> there is is only one option. >> the county sheriff's office as the suspect is in custody. the 42-year-old is charged with attempted assault on the second degree. zeldin said he was able to grab the man's rest and hold them off

until others could jump in and tackle him. felt grateful for the attorneys are stepped up quickly to assess, the law enforcement officers are quickly responded. to do my part to make a cliff again. the suspect will likely be right back out on the street immediately. i spoke with an eyewitness who got that shocking moment on camera. oded lippmann was there, i join us now to explain what he saw. first off, thanks for being with us. tell us what you saw last night. >> yeah, thanks for having me. last night was really just kind of crazy, honestly. it happened all in front of me. i was just honestly in the area, driving by and just decided to go and check it out. to be honest with you, it was just a normal -- i guess rally or whatever you would call it, and you know, things were just

fine. nothing really out of the ordinary. and then, just randomly, i decided to start recording, and randomly, we see this guy, of the left side of the stage from where i was standing and he kind of just walked up to the governor candidate, zeldin answers, all right, your. and at that point, people realized he had some sort of -- it looked like a brass knuckle sharp and key chain of some sort. immediately, people started realizing, and at that point, couple of people had jumped on top of him. i was still just recording. just walking. that point, he actually got

taken down to the ground by the guy who was trying to attack him, and thankfully, a lot of people jumped in. i know a lot of people were just moving towards the stage that they had set up, and then at ong he's got a gun or somebody mentioned something. there was kind of a panic, then people started to clear out. people had zip ties, so they managed to subdue him. i know a bunch of us kind of went forward and just were ready to drop in if more people needed to restrain him, but it was just kind of a chaotic thing. >> carley: so, did you watch and see anything lead up to this? i know you have your phone out and you are recording beforehand, but did you see the man before he pulled out this --

reports are saying that it's a blade, was that that was the first time you saw him walk up to the stage like that? >> that was really the first time i saw him go up to the stage. i didn't see him really before that. he just kind of walked up to the stage, it was like a spiked brass knuckle key chain that look like, honestly, a cat. kind of one of those weird-looking things. he had it between his two fingers. he walked up and he kind of just poked at the governor candidate's just, it looked like. a bunch of people jump in at that point. i believe his lieutenant governor, former police officer, she'd dropped in, so i bet a lot of people were relieved she was there tonight. >> carley: and in the video that you took, it was obvious

that after it happened, the crowd was a little stirred up. what was the mood like following in those moments after? what was really the charter that you heard amongst the crowd once he was taken away? >> you know, really the mood was just kind of -- everybody was just kind of in shock that it happened. it was really a small town, not much going on here. i know you get more towards the city and you get more crime, but not too much here, and everybody was just in a little shock. just surprised to see it happen, so i mean, i think it really change the mood, just kind of excited to kind of from an upbeat to a panic and chaotic

thing in a manner of seconds. >> carley: and what the people around you, could you tell that they were scared and really were you scared after you found out what happened? >> to be honest with you, some people were getting worried, some people were just in shock. truthfully, i think just the right people were there. a lot of people reacted very quickly and prevented the situation from getting worse. he was so close to the guy, and just poking at somebody with a weapon like that is never a good thing. i think it could have gone horribly wrong. i think given the situation, i think it was the best possible outcome, nobody was seriously injured. >> carley: his first-hand account of what happened last night. we appreciate your time this

morning. meantime, zeldin's opponent, saying she is relieved to hear that congressmen zeldin was not injured in the suspect is in custody. is a violent behavior in the strongest terms possible. it has no place in new york. back to base. >> carley: ashley, thank you so much. good job of that interview as well. the sad irony about all this is that congressmen zeldin's campaign speech was about the crime problem in your can use talking about how they were too many victims of crime right now, and the sky, his name is david, 43 years old. he hops onstage wielding that sharp object that is like the brass knuckles type thing and try to stab him, and you heard that you saw the tweet by governor cathy ogle saying that got this guy is in custody. he was immediately released. i feel like that is congressmen

zeldin's point in this whole thing. also, there was initially a lot of confusion. the national director named george and ali khamenei said the congress mentored to say something, i thought he was going to just a game, then maybe heckle him or something along those lines but then he got his weapon. tackled him, took him down. the crowd and got involved, got zip ties. it was really just a group effort, good showing by the way. is going to be on with us at the 5:00 hour. >> joey: a lot of moving parts if you watch this video. i think the one thing that i took away is that congressmen lee zeldin was able to protect himself. that something that everyone in office should consider. an opportunity to have some sort of reaction because we expect our politicians to come take our hand, look at us in the eye and explain to us what they're doing

but that makes them very vulnerable. we talk about how divided this country is your goal lot of things that are real problematic. pol politicians can't stop doing the responsibility of meeting with the constituents really refreshed by the idea that congressman zeldin have the opportunity in the training to react. came towards him with a sharp object, congressmen zeldin put his and way. to produce small action but it's a very important action to save himself that way. i think, honestly this is a problem we need to fix, but i don't know if you can fix pretty. they have i think an interview, he spoke to the attacker when it happen? and he got something this attacker maybe of android, and they have mental health issues, and you're just going to release them back out? part of this was obviously something isn't right. >> carley: that is exactly what congressman zeldin's speech was all about you got was about the bail reform laws and people

that can help protect you in advance of covid. for example, one that can help you induce an immune response from the vaccine itself. that something that you can inform your doctor. >> joey: the white house is not really answer questions on contact tracing, and where the president got infected from. i remember not that long ago, that was a big deal. are we just beyond that now? is it not important anymore? why are they saying that i think about what specifically does it matter? >> i can say that statement maybe misconstrued. it doesn't matter. in all actuality, does. were saying that other people's lives aren't important? maybe, you know, knowing who he contracted at rome could potentially inhibit the spread to others and save somebody else's life, so i think it's important to know where this close contact came from so that we don't see further spread to other people. >> carley: what impact that there are some people who take this antiviral like dr. fauci.

initially start feeling well, that is negative and then a couple days later, they end up feeling worse and test positive again. are there any chance that the president 's symptoms could ultimately end up getting worse, he could get sick in the future? >> the rebound can happen for some people but not all, and i would expect him to test positive two days later. a lot of my patient, to pick up covid, there is still positive for up to ten days later whether or not john paxlovid are not. a small amount of my patients could potentially still have that way about, but not everyone. the beauty of it is we have more medications that we can prescribe now that we weren't able to two years ago on top of that antiviral medicine, we also have monoclonal antibodies that we can use as a substitute if you're not a candidate for paxlovid. >> joey: president biden is not young. his age but a high-risk. also some of his pre-existing conditions. heart disease and being

susceptible to slash. americans are looking at this, what's the rescue me. i think we have a thought here that president biden stopped taking one of his medications. is on a an cholesterol-lowering medication and blood thinners, both of which need to be stop when you take paxlovid. very standard commenting that we do when we give people paxlovid, and you don't need to do anything in those circumstances. they both get stopped. than they get restarted. is totally fine. totally normal process. >> joey: americans don't need to worry about if they take paxlovid themselves that they need to take the medications for them, that okay? >> it depends on your situation, you underlying medical conditions. he is on this blood thinner, you need is it because he has what's called atrial fibrillation, and without the blood thinner, i could develop a cotton is not that would go up to his bed and developer/like you mentioned

earlier. for him, they probably will need to just lower the dosage of that. he still needs a blood thinner, then for cholesterol medicine, that had to be stopped otherwise that can result in kidney failure, so it depends on what matters and you have, your age, your risk and you're most likely outcome is. >> carley: also, the majority of people are vaccinated, and so those who aren't, there are an abundance of therapeutics. as a doctor, what is your concern about covid death right now? it was a huge problem in 2020, what about now? >> most of those deaths, is a matter of fact more than 80% of them are in those who are over the age of 65 vehicles in the weak immune system, so it's holding steady at about 3-400. for more the americans, they have mild symptoms are no symptoms. most of us do well when we recover. we got vaccines, we are testing, we've got therapeutics. it no longer really is not a viable because it was two years

is american, and she benefited from american coaches and facilities, and then to see her at the olympics raising the chinese ride with a big smile on her face, just makes you shake your head. you also feel kind of sad for her because who wouldn't want to be an american? why do you think she ultimately made the decision that she did? >> shave made tens upon tens of millions of dollars in endorsement deals before she even competed at the olympics in china. maybe there is a financial incentive. what i would have liked to have done is she stocked in the past about chinese americans and how it is hard and fight is against them, et cetera. why not compete in america? why not be an icon a role model for these young chinese american girls want to follow in your footsteps? why not go against all serious types, but yet such such an opportunity to be praised by so many young people commented that, she jumped ship and went over to china, of all places.

annual report says schools or a decrease in an open from 2020 to 2022, that same times then, charter school enrolment increased about 6.9%. ceo ian rowe join me in. good morning, ian. thank you for joining us. >> good money, thank you for having me on. those numbers are not surprising. new yorkers are voting with their feet in terms of education and school choice. >> joey: it would be easy to blame this on corporate governance and everything was disrupted, but there's more to it than that. what can you tell me about it? >> even prior to covid, the new york city charter school center back in 2019 said that there were about 81,000 applications for charter schools, but only 33,000 available seats. nearly 60,000 families who are desperate for a high-quality education, but on top of that,

at what transpired during the pandemic. charter schools really sprang into action. we set up wi-fi hot spots in housing projects to ensure that kids had access to remote instruction, high-quality instruction, as well as many charter schools had in-person instruction, obsessed with ensuring that these kids were some of the most vulnerable actually had access to the highest quality education. >> joey: this is a new york city problem. i would imagine politics is part of politics in the school's problem isn't a big problem there. to more nuts and bolts of the quality of education. what are charter schools doing that public schools aren't doing? >> well, first of all, charter schools are public schools. that is public schools that are privately run, typically by non-profit organization. what charter schools usually get right is that we are offering choice in the district in which

we are launching our partnership academies, the international baccalaureate high school which is an extension of other charter school networks, only 7% of students who entered ninth grade, four years later are ready for college. parents have had enough of this kind of performance, and they want high-quality options. that's why they're so many families were advocating for eliminating the cap that currently exists on charter schools. there are all these incredible entrepreneurs that want to run great schools in low-income communities, serving black and hispanic kids. our high school will serve almost exclusively low-income kids with a world-class education that you typically -- is only found in private schools. generally, parents want choice. they want more high-quality options and the pandemic, and the performance of charter schools during that time just served to show demonstrably a

much better and education can be if more parents are given high quality choices. >> joey: thank you so much for joining us. there is a charter school right next to a public elementary school in my little town in georgia, and this charter school actually made all the schools perform better because there was competition. my hope is that we are going to invest in our education, teach them all, teach them to lead this country and hope that that's what you're going to do. >> our schools are dedicated to the idea of equality of opportunity. individual dignity and our common humanity. incredibly high, rigourous expectations, actually having pathways both for college as well as the ability to get an industry credential in computer science and other areas. this is what we need to do. >> joey: we appreciate what you guys are doing. ian rowe, thank you very much. nancy pelosi is put in the hot

ahead of time, it not only compromises her office, but it compromises the whole house. >> joey: is there actually a crime that could have been committed here or is this just one of the many crimes congress allows itself to do something but isn't actually illegal? >> engaging in behavior that looks improper is unethical under the house rules, and so you can have an internal house investigation. we don't know if there was a crime committed, but insider trading is an elastic term and many american citizens have been caught up in it and investigations related to it. securities and exchange commission has jurisdiction. i suspect the biden securities and exchange commission is going to do much against nancy pelosi. it highlights why this bill is probably bunk. [laughs] it should be stopped because it is as much about lining the pockets of others as it is about helping chipmakers. >> carley: were hearing that

the hunter biden probe is now reaching what is being called a critical stage, and federal prosecutors are now weighing whether or not to charge -- possible charges include various tax violations, foreign lobby and violations and possibly making false statements in connection to the purchase of a gun. are the fed is going to charge hunter, and if so, what will the outcome of this be? >> i don't know if they're going to charge hunter. i know that we should all be concerned that the justice department has been sitting on this and other information related to his misconduct for years, and they still haven't done anything. now, we have these reports suggesting further agony by the justice department that's supposed to have a special counsel appointed when there is, again, a conflict of interest. the big question for the justice department hunter biden is whether they're going to -- if they do charge hunter biden on gun charges, on bribery, whether his father is going to be

subject to investigation. let's be blunt here. if this is the top family, you have an investigation to rival watergate targeting the biden family. but here, the justice department is agonizing, it looks like, over relatively narrow charges in the sense that they're doing their darndest to avoid implicating joe biden even though the evidence has deepened this. >> joey: real quick, the cable networks didn't cover this. this is a legit scandal, is it not? this is real news that probably should be covered. >> yeah, this is news that not only implicates hunter biden, the president 's son, but the president as well. there is this international component involving china, ukraine and russia. my gosh, where in a war in ukraine and we don't want to look at the compromise financial interest of the biden family
