suspected attacker was taken into custody and has been charged with second degree attempted assault. congressman zeldin says he was able to grab the man's wrist and hold him off until others could jump in and tackle him and later he was zip tied by people in the crowd. the congressman said, quote: i'm as resolute as ever to do my part to make new york safe again. the suspect will likely be right back out on the street immediately. >> ainsley: he is. >> steve: that's exactly what happened. the suspect was released on his own rrs. >> brian: all right. meanwhile zeldin's opponent this fall incumbent hopeful kathy hochul tweeting this out happy to hear zeldin was not injured and the suspect is in custody. >> ainsley: nope. >> brian: not anymore. at the time she tweeted i condemn this behavior strongest terms possible it has no place in new york. ashley strohmier spoke with eyewitness news cody who caught the shocking moment on camera. he says it could have been much worse. >> just the right people were

right next to him and lunged for him. it was an odd series of events. >> i saw in the daily mail if we can put that up again that's the actually blade. daily mail described it as brass knuckles. not exactly. it's the blade in the shape of a cat and as you can see you can probably put two finger in where the cat eyes are and that would create obviously a very dangerous weapon. also according to the local papers up there, the iraqi war veteran who assaulted -- allegedly got to say assaulted the congressman was reportedly under the influence, which makes it even more curious. >> brian: of what? >> steve: why he would be immediately released upon his own recognizance. >> ainsley: joe chenelly is the am vets director and running for new york state assembly which is the reason he was there supporting lee zeldin. can you see him on the back of the stage standing in front of lee zeldin and he goes in and

helps to hold the suspect down and they zip tied him and then the sheriff's department came and took him away. >> steve: there is the am vet guy jumping up on stage right there. >> ainsley: exactly. he noticed the guy was a vet and his clothe guilty indicated that and then he said he found out that he had served in the iraq war and he was suffering from a mental health crisis and he said that he told the guy you are going to have to pay for this. as a vet advocate he said he told him he will get him the help that he needs. he was on "fox & friends" earlier. listen. >> i stepped up on to the stage saw the attacker try to get into zeldin's face and swings and i could see what looked like a raiser a knife some sort. the congressman saw him block that swing as he attempted another swing i attacked him from the back and tracked him to

the ground where seller of us were able to restrain him and get the weapon away from him and turn him over to police when they arrived. it was clear, spent some time with this gentleman on the ground last night and he was not in a good place. very concerned. >> brian: yeah, i mean, too, you should be concerned, also. i think people should be concerned, too, that this guy is out. meanwhile kathy -- this nic, the g.o.p. chair, actually running for office too. he said kathy hochul fanned the fans of hate directing. not enough to condemn the attack she should apologize and tone down her hateful rhetoric immediately. >> ainsley: if you read her twitter page seems like she is being compassionate and wishing zeldin the best and condemning violent behavior but then we learned she released his rally schedule to all of her supporters indicating go his rallies. brine brian she is worried about him no doubt about it ashley

on those ships out in the pacific, they are not taking them to your house and to the grocery stores and that kind of thing. >> steve: 15 container ships out in the pacific they can't get to the port because what these independent truckers are doing is they are protesting a new california law that imposes new costs on them. it cracks down on gig workers or people, you know, who do not work for anybody in particular. >> ainsley: like uber, litt. >> steve: they do it on their own for variety of reasons. trying to push them into full time jobs and into unions. got the union dock workers out there they will not cross the picket line of these truckers even though the truckers are not in a union. they are simply, you know, they are having work action. so the dock workers are honoring their picket line and that's why there are 15 ships that can't get offloaded. >> ainsley: like 17,000 truckers who don't want to be become unions. >> brian: they are independent contracts. we want to be independent

fiscal year funding, so we are looking october at the earliest. but, really, the order that i saw was only closing one of the gaps. it wasn't to close all of them. >> ainsley: why would they do that? why would they only close one and not all of them? >> i think there is a priority list and they are closing the one that is the highest traffic but at the end of the day all you are doing is moving traffic around. >> ainsley: exactly. >> you are not discouraging anything. >> ainsley: you said seven mile stretch. they will just walk over to the next gap, right? >> yes. we see it we are actually even seeing now that they're even cutting existing wall. so the wall systems are never going to be 100 percent effective but they are more dramatically effective than just an open border. >> ainsley: yes, of course especially if a whole family is coming through or big group is coming through they all can't get over a wall. what are the agents saying in the area. >> what they are really focused on is border security. that's what they have all signed up for is to secure the border. not to process immigration they

gubernatorial candidate and current congressman lee zeldin got attacked at a campaign stop last night. you can see a guy jump up on the stage while zeldin was speaking. when police say he approaches -- he starts swinging a sharp object blade in the shape of a cat head towards zeldin's neck. that terrifying moment caught on camera. >> there is only one option. >> watch out. >> whoa, whoa. >> the monroe county sheriff's office says the suspected attacker right there on the ground was taken into custody after that and charged with attempted assault. zeldin says he was able to grab the man's wrist and hold him off until others could jump up there on the stage and tackle him down to the ground. he says, quote: i am resolute as ever to do my part to make new york safe again. this suspect will likely be right back on the street

immediately. he is that's exactly what happened. the suspect was released on his own recognizance. >> brian: which doesn't make anyone feel safe. zeldin's opponent this fall and governor kathy hochul tweeting this relieved to hear that congressman zeldin was not injured and the suspect is in custody. i condemn this violent behavior in the strongest terms possible. it has no place in new york. so that's -- so that's going to be interesting. ashley -- yeah, so ashley has covered this before. she spoke with the eyewitness cody griffin who caught the shocking moment on camera. he said it could have been much worse. >> just the right people were there, a lot of people reacted very quickly and prevented the situation from getting worse because it very easily could. i mean, he was so close to the guy and just poking at somebody with, you know, a weapon like that, it's never a good thing. i think it could have gone

get there to take him into custody. now i'm wondering lee zeldin is going to have to take security with him everywhere he goes to appreciate this we are seeing it at comedy shows and seeing it now at political events people jumping on stage and attacking. joe chenelly said he spent some time with the guy. he said he was not in a good place. listen to this. >> i stepped up onto the stage, saw the attacker tried to get into zeldin's face and then swing and i could see what looked like a razor knife of some sort. the congressman saw him block that swing. and then as he attempted another swing, i tackled the attacker from the back and slammed him to the ground where several of us were able to restrain him, get the weapon away from him and eventually turn him over to police when they arrived. it was clear, spent some time with this gentleman on the ground last night. and he was not in a good place.

paxlovid? how effective is that? would you give that to his patient? >> i loved that he said keep the faith i'm going to be okay. perfect ending to that video he sent out. right now president biden seems to have what i like to refer to as the covid cold. that's what the majority of americans, especially those vaccinated and boosted are seeing with the omicron variant. we can only hope that he doesn't progress into something more severe but chances are, statistically speaking it's highly unlikely that he is going to have a severe outcome. is he taking paxlovid and that's what his medical doctor has recommended for him. paxlovid was initially designed and studied for unvaccinated high risk individuals. it did incredible job of keeping those people out of the hospital by reducing the viral load. now, we don't really have actually any data that shows that it has a benefit in vaccinated individual let alone a double-boosted individual. so i think when you hear a lot of people saying oh, i give everyone paxlovid and everyone is doing great. can't really say that because we haven't had blinded studies to

prove that it's the paxlovid that is actually doing wonders and it's not because it's a more mild variant and the fact that these people are vaccinated and boosted. but considering that the president is 79, he has multiple medical co-morbidity he certainly is in that high risk category. i don't think it's unreason for him to be taking max loved. of course, is he on some medications that has some side effects with it which is why his doctors have either decreased the dose or stopped them entirely. i don't think it was a bad idea that he is taking paxlovid. whether or not it's going to do anything for him, i'm not so sure. >> ainsley: okay. what are the symptoms that you are seeing now and if he had they are really mild are we at a point we have to say this is like the common cold or this is the flu and we just have to live with and it not mask and not worry about all of this stuff? >> well, again, ainsley, thanks to everything that we have already mentioned and also have a more milder variant, people are seeing more mild symptoms. like the covid cold; however, some people are still getting flu like symptoms. and as we have said throughout
