>> todd: a fox news alert, white house is bracing for another potentially brutal economic report said to be released this week. arguing we are already in the midst of a recession, export the ones who work for president biden. i'm todd piro. >> i'm ashley strohmier, expecting federal reserve to raise interest rates again this week, as only possible solution to battle biden's 40-year high

inflation. doug luzader joins us live in washington. good morning, doug. >> doug: the fed meets tomorrow to talk interest rates, a lot going on, and the white house is laying the groundwork. we may find on thursday gdp has fallen, according to the white house economic advisors, some maintain two consecutive quarters of falling real gdp constitute a recession, that is neither the full definition or how economists evaluate the business state. former obama administration says recession is likely. >> there is high likelihood of recession when we've been in this kind of situation before, recession has followed when inflation has been high and
2:02 am
unemployment has been low. >> doug: the fed starts their meeting tomorrow, expected to raise interest rates to reign in that 9.1% inflation rate. >> inflation is way too high, the fed is charged with putting in place policies that will bring inflation down and i expect them to be successful. >> republicans meantime, say the administration is making this all worse. >> you cannot tax your way out of recession or prosperity and they know the best way to see an economic recovery is to lower those taxes. >> doug: the period continues to isolate today due to covid, we do expect a white house briefing. a lot of questions about the economy.

>> ashley: doug luzader, thanks. a group of house republicans touring the border in eagle pass, texas, a community that has become a flash point in the crisis. tony gonzales will lead this after alejandro mayorkas claimed the border is secure. >> i represent 42%, we can't wait on the administration to fix our problems, we got to roll up our sleeves. >> ashley: border patrol agents encountered 1.7 million migrantss, that is all of last fiscal year. new congressman and gubernatorial candidate zeldin speaking out since his accused attacker was indicted by the feds.

>> todd: and the republican is getting extra protection. marianne rafferty. >> marianne: the man was predicted to be freed immediately. the man has been arrested again, this time on serious federal charge which could land him 10 years in prison. zeldin speaking to fox for the first time since the indictment. >> this person attempted to stab anyone, let alone a member of congress, and be released within hours required the feds to step up and charge this person. this federal charge he's facing is because i'm a member of congress. if i wasn't, he would have been instantly released and on the streets right now. >> marianne: zeldin gained

protection from new york's finest last nights in queens, telling the "new york post" undercover operatives were deployed to the republican rally, but pba president says this could have been avoided if law and order were prioritized by new york -- >> had what looked like an assassination attempt on zeldin and that person walked out the door and if not for the federal charges, would still be free. >> and the man said he was drinking the day of the attack and claimed he didn't know who zeldin was. >> todd: thank you very much. we are learning, officials are weighing possible charges

with prosecutors determining whether to charge hunter biden with falsifying statements, but some experts say a generous plea deal could be on the table for the president's son. >> todd: let's go to jonathan fahey, who joins us now. what happens to hunter biden? >> jonathan: that's a great question and you wonder will he be treated differently? will he be treated the same as other people who have similar situation? it is really an open question. the way the department of justice is handling this investigation, they decided not to appoint a special counsel, there is politics all over this thing. >> ashley: i asked cory mills if
2:12 am
this would be finished by midterm, what do you think? >> jonathan: short answer, i don't know, you would think they would want to finish this soon and before the midterms. you don't know what is going on, how much investigation is going on and how much more they have to do, it is really an open question and has been going on for quite a while. you think there is incentive to wrap this case up and get to a decision point. >> todd: then this, "new york post" columnist goodwin slamming merrick garland, saying, i don't think the man will -- the man is drowning and democrats face a midterm shellacking, seems pretty obvious.
2:13 am
do you agree? >> jonathan: i think that is really the real question here, it is -- will he be treated differently because of who he is? really is mystifying because department of justice, you see on other issues with recent reluctance with supreme court justices and school board and other issues, will they treat this differently? is this purely political? special counsel should have been appointed here, it is important for the public to know this is being treated no better, no worse than anybody else and perception carries over into every other case that is prosecuted. if they prosecute him, obvious questions will be asked and the question will be asked, who knew about this and who is involved and that leads to one place and somebody should be able to ask
2:14 am
this without fear of retribution and that is the question and who knows, it doesn't seem like they have done anything other than politics over there in the year and a half and doesn't seem like he will face consequences other people would face in similar situations. >> ashley: president biden and the voicemails that appeared going to hunter biden, take a listen and i'll ask a question on the other side of it. >> hi, pal, it's dad, it's 8:15 on wednesday night. if you get a chance, give me a call, nothing urgent, just want to talk to you. the article going to be printed tomorrow in the times is good, i think you're clear. >> ashley: what is likelihood democrats are worried this will have a direct path right to the president if this investigation comes to fruition like this? >> jonathan: yeah, i think they
2:15 am
are worried about this because in the typical case in a federal case when somebody maybe doesn't plead guilties, they are required to cooperate and when required to cooperate, the natural question would be asked, who knew what you were doing, why were you doing this? again, hunter biden has a mess of a personal life and the fact that somebody with all of his issues would be getting high-level business opportunities is highly basically not likely, not even possible without his connections. that is why he's given these opportunities and the opportunities are because of who he is, meaning who his dad is. the questions lead right there and i'm sure they are worried on top of all the other issues on the disastrous policies they have to defend on the midterms.
