bidens code but diagnosis, as mild as it may be, still it triggering event to the d.c. establishment, what if something happens to the president and kamala harris has to step in? this scenario is a terrifying prospect for anyone who's followed her performance over the last few years. in an administration of punch lines, she's in a class by herself. last sunday during a podcast interview where she managed to make the democrats holy grail of abortions sound evermore callous, if that's possible -- watch. >> listen, women are getting pregnant every day in america and this is a real issue, and we need to act with a sense of haste about what is at play, what is at stake. >> laura: there's a baby at play, just to clarify. at least she didn't to the trademark hyena cackle at the end of that, but she was saying -- saving all of that for today in indianapolis where she was nervously avoiding any opportunity for q&a with the

[laughs] >> laura: why is that funny? what wasn't funny was her exchange with the press in poland last month. she was sent there to eastern europe i assume to reassure our allies over ukraine, but the only one reassured by her performance was vladimir putin. >> is the united states willing to make a specific allocation for ukrainian? >> a friend in need is a friend in need. 7:04 pm
>> laura: teachers should be able to love openly? and to think that i thought reading, spelling, arithmetic, that was what five, six, 7-year-olds were supposed to be learning. i'm totally out of it. for the democrats, having a woman is utterly incompetent as harris as vice president is fraught with political peril and of course for the country, it's a national security nightmare. if harris has to take over as commander in chief, marinate in that for a moment, china is going to take taiwan in about 3. the most important security issue facing america on the phone, comb front of courses are open border, the white house put her in charge of it. in june 2021, friend the reporter asked her a simple question about the issue. >> do you have any plans to visit the border? >> and here in guatemala today. at some point -- you know, we are going to the border. with into the border, so this whole -- this whole thing about

7:06 pm
only the white house gave her more to do. there's little evidence that the white house feels much of the urgency felt by general eisenhower to enhance the role and preparedness of the person who might inherit the presidency at any moment. a historian wrote that, comparing kamala to richard nixon. yeah, just like ike and nixon, if nixon was actually known to sound like a total bobblehead. kamala's lips move and words come out, she manages to say absolutely nothing. >> when we discussed this issue and when we contemplate what it means, understand that it could have a profound impact on just about everyone in our country. dominic who has any association or interest or concern about these various issues. >> laura: see what i mean? they've been shrinking her

portfolio because they don't like her personally. they are doing it because she's terrible. she's relegated to save appearances or interviews with those groundbreaking journalists at glamour, the scam, something called refinery29, that was on her portfolio today. so also ask yourself this: if democrat insider spot vice president harris was the future of the party, why would she be burning staff at the current rate she's burning it? on social media, they call this the exodus. here's a list and counting. these are minor figures. these people are her senior staff. national review put it plainly. if your a kamala harris fan that feels like she's being snubbed, ignored, shunted aside or underutilized, it's not the g.o.p. or fox news. this is all on biden or at least biden's senior staff. they don't like her, they don't respect her, they know she's a drag at an already dragged down president. we all know why biden selected her in the first place down.
7:08 pm
>> president biden: i commit that i will in fact appoint a -- i picked a woman to be vice president. there are number of women who are qualified to be president tomorrow, i would pick a woman to be my vice president. >> laura: it was more important for biden to achieve a first, the first female woman of color as vice president, than to actually pick someone for his or her experience and intellect. now the democrats in the country are in serious -- so how do you solve a problem like kamala? well, there's no easy answer, but i can assure you that the senior democrats in this town are spending a lot of time racking their brains about what to do. as providing himself, having kamala a heartbeat away from the presidency may actually have been an ingenious move. governor desantis has a theory. >> i thought biden picking her first was like the worst decision ever, she's not great, but she's like the best impeachment insurance and 25th amendment insurance anyone can have, because as bad as biden's,
7:09 pm
even though he can barely read the teleprompter, and is much as people disapprove of him, nobody wants harris. >> laura: and that's "the angle." joining me now is stephen miller, former advisor to president trump, and also ben domenech, editor at large of the spectator and fox news contributor. stephen, do you think that they were trying to hobble her early on when they get for the border assignment? >> i think they knew early on, we've all figured out, which is that she is horrendously incompetent, totally useless, has the speaking skills at best of a first grader for being generous and has absolutely no ability to do anything useful whatsoever. and since they knew -- it's very sick, but they knew the border was going to be in a never-ending state of crisis, they figure they might as well laid out on her, even though of course we know that joe biden and this will the administration have the entire border disaster on their hands and conscious buried
7:10 pm
>> laura: in politico today they say that paris plots her next move, more aggressive volley in the abortion-rights arena. i mean, is that going to catapult her into i guess being as close to richard nixon in intellect -- >> what you don't appreciate about this moment is the importance of the passage of time. the passage of time -- the vice presidency -- look, you can assign the vice presidency to being a warm bucket of spit, but as you look at the various vice presidents who have held this role over the years, many of them have been very important in terms of assisting the president that they have worked with, including richard nixon, including his role for dwight eisenhower, but when it comes to kamala, she's not just on important to this administration. she is the grab bag for everything that they don't want to deal with, including the border, including all of these other things that are supposed to be on her portfolio that she's not going to deal with. no one has faith in her as being
7:11 pm
a potential replacement for joe biden, and as it becomes clear that he is someone who is completely incapable of fulfilling the role of the presidency, and that 2024 is just looming on the horizon, you're going to see more and more democrats start just question her, start to try to figure out how can we possibly replace or in terms of the next person to step up. >> laura: i think that's right, and people are talking about well, is going to be trump or some other person, there's a fight between the established end of the populace -- and that's true, so republicans have a challenge to try and figure this all out, they have a real -- they have -- biden can't run, nobody wants them, and nobody wants kamala, so guess who's next? years our secretary transportation diving into the hot-button issue -- is this transportation? watch. >> our marriage deserves to be treated equally, and i don't know why this would be hard. if they don't want to spend a lot of time on this, they can vote yes and move on and that
7:12 pm
would be really reassuring for a lot of families around america, including mine. >> laura: i mean, you can't turn the dial without seeing him on every show, weekends -- he is seven days a week on television, so if they could put kamala out there, they would, stephen. we have airline issues. not really this portfolio, but we have baby food shortages still. >> supply chain. >> laura: supply chain. the big thing going on at the ports in california. and this guy is about well, let's talk about me. this is unbelievable. >> you got the supply chain crisis, we have the airline crisis, we have the infrastructure crisis and all they can do is put pete out on tv and either talk about his own marriage or talk about how roads in america are racist and our bridges are bigots buried >> laura: is either plan c? >> he's plan f, gee, h -- who knows how far down the list. their team, their roster is so incompetent. donald trump would mow through all of them. the reality is that whether it's biden or harris or pete buttigieg or gavin newsom, look at the catastrophe of
7:13 pm
california, crime, drugs, homelessness, look at chicago. the democrat party is in a complete state of crisis because they don't have one viable national leader. >> laura: they're never going to admit that liberalism doesn't work, right? so they're going to keep finding a slick messenger. if that's what gavin newsom is kind of rising to the top of the heap, because he's kind of slick. >> you just have to automatically raise somebody up with their teeth are that shiny. it's one of these things were you look at pete -- >> laura: you should do your hair like an. >> i probably should. but here's the thing, when you look at pete, what you hear from him is so much leaning into this kind of culture war animosity that says, you know, republicans are bigots. guess what? when barack obama ran for president, he was someone saying that marriage was between a man and woman. it was donald trump who was coming along and being the first president to say actually, you know, i'm okay with this, so maybe you should recycle this kind of bigotry, this kind of
7:14 pm
approach to culture war dynamics through reality in order to understand that actually we really more care about whether you are delivering on what your job is for americans as opposed to engaging in this kind of hot button culture war issue in order to try to raise your hierarchy within this ridiculous circumstance of replacement for kamala. >> laura: they are grinding up biden, they're grinding up kamala, they're going to grind through pete buttigieg, i think they will keep going until they find someone was a better messenger for liberalism. so good to see you in person, both of you. nancy pelosi's planned trip to taiwan is a rare moment of truth for the speaker. the looming battle against china in the single greatest struggle for human rights worldwide. the acquiescence to a murderous regime is a stain on the legacies of bush, clinton, obama, and biden. pelosi could actually set herself apart from all of them. so why should she listen to those mourns of the pentagon who don't want her to go? >> do think it's a good idea for
7:15 pm
speaker pelosi to travel to taiwan? >> well, i think that the military thinks it's not a good idea right now. >> laura: really? they thought the taliban was going to back down too, right? the next guest even volunteered to go with nancy pelosi to taiwan, so is she serious about bipartisanship? joining me now, mike pompeo, former secretary of state, fox news contributor. esther secretary, have you heard from the speaker since you made your offer? >> thank for having me on. i have not heard from her. it was a little bit tongue-in-cheek in that i prefer to travel with lots of other people, but having said this, this is about america. if the speaker of the house now allows some second rate foreign diplomat saying we might do something really hot in america, the third highest-ranking federal official says you can't come here. we acquiesced to that threat, we are in for a long decade here in
7:16 pm
the united states of america. president biden needs to get serious, defend the things that matter to the american people from california to new york, to for to come to washington, to allow the chinese to just issue a statement and change the direction, change the actions that the united states will take, because we are fearful of them. we are in for a long struggle, and it will not end well with that kind of failed leadership. >> laura: so what message does it send if we allow china to dictate the travel of the woman who is third in line for the presidency? what message does that send to them? >> it tells everyone of our allies in the region, the japanese, south koreans, the osterman's, it says don't hang with the americans, they are fearful, and it tells our adversaries, you mentioned afghanistan, certainly the same thing happened in ukraine as well. we said a minor would be okay. when you're not strong -- this is a tough, nasty world out there. what is the greatest threat to the american people today, the chinese, his party, demonstrate weakness, they are going to walk through the fire and they are
7:17 pm
going to make life really difficult for us. it doesn't need to be that way. we are the most powerful nation in the world, we have an economy that is unrivaled. we can beat them, we can win this, we can continue to have another 250 goodyear's for america but speaker of the house was going to travel to a sovereign nation, the nation of taiwan and china said we don't think she should go, you go okay, never mind, where in a quicker center, that's a bad and dangerous place to find yourself buried >> laura: it is so unbelievable i can even believe we are having to talk about it, but speaking about washed up pentagon talking heads, here's retired army general barry mccaffrey. watch. >> most people say you shouldn't go. it's a thoughtless measure at this point to have a politician there. i'm not sure what positive can come out of it and there will be some signal, some measure by the chinese in response if pelosi visits. not a good idea. >> laura: mr. secretary, is everybody bought and paid for by china? everyone? i'm not saying he is but he
7:18 pm
certainly sounds like he is. >> boy, not everyone, but too many. whether it's hollywood who acquiesces the same way biden did -- they don't put chinese characters where they continued to buy stuff where they are committing atrocities, even to make our biggest corporations in america. there are a lot of folks deeply connected to china in a way that's not good for the united states. the general they're kind of just assumed failure, he assumes the chinese ought to be able to dictate who can travel where from the united states. what's next? are you going to tell leaders they can't travel some place else because the chinese don't like it if they go to fiji or the solomon islands or wherever it may be? this is a very dangerous path to head down. we ought to do the things that matter america, the things that defend and protect our sovereignty in our security. we can do that. we need not be fearful, we need to be strong and clear. whether speaker pelosi went or not six months ago might not have meant -- but once she said she was going, do not go in the face of a chinese threat demonstrates real weakness and real danger follows. >> laura: i just keep saying
7:19 pm
the pentagon told us that the afghan army could hold their line, for what, six months a year? they collapsed in one week. so until we do a retrospective on everything they've gotten wrong, i'm sorry, leadership -- i'm not talk about the rank-and-file. i mean, we elected a president to be our commander in chief, not millie and austin. mr. secretary, great to see you, you look very tan, by the way. with the economy in shambles, the biden white house is now of course trying to redefine what actually a recession is. plus, an entire police force just resigned in north carolina after the hiring of a progressive town manager. the chief who made that announcement is here exclusively. stay there.

7:25 pm
that two quarters of negative gdp growth is a technical definition of a recession is wrong. >> laura: they are all reading the same playbook. the last ten instances in american history that sought to go straight quarters of negative gdp growth were defined as a recession. but the biden team of course ready to ditch it. what a perfect distillation of modern leftism. when you're losing, just change the rules of the game, then declare victory. joining me now is peter schiff, chief economist, global strategist for euro pacific capital and host of the peter schiff show podcast. peter, explain why this is lunacy. >> well, you know, they redefined the definition of inflation from an expansion of the money supply to prices going up, so they may as well change the definition of recession, because for my entire career, recession has been described as two quarters of negative gdp growth, and we got that. in fact, the third quarter looks like it's going to be an even bigger contraction them at first too, so that's going to be three
7:26 pm
quarters, but you know, janet yellen said that a recession is not two consecutive drops in gdp, it's a broad-based economic slow down. well, that's exactly what we've got. the auto industry is in recession, the housing industry is in recession, retail is in recession, advertising is in recession. so many unrelated segments of the economy are in recession. how you can't say this is a broad-based slow down, doesn't make any sense, and in fact it's going to get a lot worse in the third quarter and in probably the fourth quarter as well. >> laura: what they are pegging it too, i think, is the tight labor market we have, but the tight labor market is not corresponding with wage increases that actually can catch up to the cost of living and exceed the cost of living increases that everyone is having. while people are getting raises, it doesn't mean -- yeah, it doesn't mean they're living better lives. >> it's worse than that, laura. first of all, on appointment claims have no reason for i
