is of grave concern to the united states and watching how the world community has reacted to that is something that the united states want to see china observe as well as particular how the united states has supported ukraine. that is clearly a signal that the united states would do the same thing if there was an attack on taiwan. that said, the status quo you are just referring to is what the united states want. there is no interest here from the u.s. government perspective for conflict in the taiwan strait and for tensions to rise and for there to be any kind of military conflict with china. arthel: on this trip to asia, pelosi is scheduled to visit japan, singapore, malaysia, south korea, even if taiwan was not on, she has to go. isn't it more beneficial for the president to choose cooperation

over conflict? >> i don't know if she has to go. that is a decision for the speaker to make. this is a democratic system. we have three different branches of government. not having authority over the legislative branch. making it on foreign travel. that is a foreign concept. that is something that the united states and in particular president biden trying to communicate. what is in the ultimate interest certainly in the interest of world peace and also in the interest of an economic relationship that is hugely important to both countries. both china and the united states >> yes. all right. always always a pleasure. white house correspondent. nice to see you. thank you.

we need to be energy independent fossil fuels are part of our economy. 28% of our economy in the united states is still dependent on coal. if we would just have a common sense view and not rush into an unsustainable position, going to green too fast, i think we can see a transition that would benefit the economy in the future. we need lower gas prices. particularly diesel. when you look at not just the government cost, most of the military runs, we also need fertilizer. making our economy run, especially rural areas, agriculture is the number one industry in the state of new york.

that should only intensify. the threat includes tennessee into eastern kentucky before running into the mountains getting into west virginia and virginia where some of the heaviest rain will be falling. i take you through today. you do see a bit of a bull's-eye there. to pay attention to the timestamp up in the corner. not just a today issue. a stationary front. it just continues on and on. more rain falling across eastern kentucky and tennessee. taking you into next weekend. still an area where you are seeing more rainfall. not as much rain as we saw last week. another three-5 inches on already saturated ground and that will be enough to let those rain totals pileup more and see a little bit more flooding on top of all the rain all the heavy rain we are paying attention to a lot of heat in the western states where getting up in the pacific northwest, an area where it does not typically

new york city officials declaring monkeypox a public health emergency. the second major american city to do so. new york has the most confirmed cases of any state in the country. live and our newsroom with the very latest on this. >> new york is leading the way and it is not close. calling new york city specifically the epicenter of the monkeypox outbreak. new york city accounts for 25% of all monkeypox cases in the entire country. 5189 confirmed cases in the u.s. new york city approaching 1300 and the vast majority of the state. working with all levels to get more monkeypox vaccine doses for those that want it.
