9:01 am
the major political provocation and threatens the united states against. this is "outnumbered." i'm harris faulkner. here with my cohost, emily compagno and kayleigh mcenany. also joining us dr. nicole saphier had james freeman. we are going to rocket. right now speaker nancy pelosi is that the capital city of taipei. she is the highest-ranking u.s. elected official to visit taiwan and more than a quarter-century. a furious china is ratcheting up the threats against the u.s. it is just released that statement, let's get into more of it. the united states, for its part, has been attempting to use taiwan to contain china. it constantly distorts, obscures, and holds up the one china principle. these moves, like playing with fire, are extremely dangerous.
9:02 am
the chinese state media will hold live fire exercises are in taiwan around august 4th, so thursday of this week, and august 7th. that's just after nancy pelosi will have left taiwan. there are now also reports that a series of military operations could start tonight. tiny warplanes at the ready reported flying very close to taiwan already. taiwan launched military drills to prepare their people for the worst. and for u.s. warship, including an aircraft carrier are positioned in waters east of taiwan peered the world awaits and watches for china's next move.
9:03 am
james freeman, this one from we don't know where she's going, and they go crazy. >> they don't need to go crazy. other officials have visited in the past. good for nancy pelosi. there's a lot to criticize in her public record, but one thing she's been outstanding on for decades for standing up for the free people of taiwan. this wonderful island of liberty come of this success, you go back to bush days coming to clinton, she's always been in many ways better than the white house, saying these are our friends. and good for her. >> harris: you bring up a point that senator manchin just talked about, that we've had a lot of delegates go. this moment in time is so different, emily. >> emily: that's right up your cheese and the president a line of succession and that's important for us to remember and also why the administration officials say maybe china does not understand this is not an

official administration visit, they confuse her because she's a democrat until they are conflating the two. we talk about the potential impact of taiwan too. already it's my understanding based on the president of the eurasia group that a hundred shift some food exports have already been cut off from the mainland. this visit has just started and yet there's already been major consequences. i just want to point out back to that import, the chinese ambassador to the u.s. in july said that the question of taiwan for us is the most sensitive, important course you in china u.s. relations. against the backdrop of their being everything else on the table, the fact that that is their number one priority speaks volumes about why they are taking this so seriously. >> harris: so, kayleigh, what happens if we don't get a ride? the timing of this is interesting because china's looking across the world and seeing what roger has done with ukraine. >> kayleigh: the sad truth is we have not gotten a ride for

the response from the biden administration has been weak and inexcusable. i was appalled to watch the press secretary, karine jean-pierre, ask about these chinese threats, which are real and actual. they are not hypothetical. her response to peter doocy with i will not answer i hypothetical. no, no, no hear it if you are asked about a threat from another power, you have to talk to the national security council but you exhibit american strength. john kirby had to clean it up come he got out yesterday and the airwaves and said this is an important visit and we support the speaker which should've been the point from the get-go. that aside we have been so strategically weak against china. axios did a good report on the trump administration and they said in 2017 trump put billions of dollars of terrorists on chinese goods. all government approach was taking form. there were -- where is that approach from joe biden?
9:06 am
why isn't it happening? cut for the house speaker. i'm glad she stood firm. but why is she more of a leader against china than the current president of united states? >> harris: dr. saphier, i know we can get into the politics but i want to talk about the height of the pandemic. medications for diabetes and those countries we are still capitulating to a company that hated country that hates us. >> nicole: you hit the nail on the head. i think a visit at this level is way overdue. taiwan is a true ally to not only the united states but to the world. they tried to alert us about the out break. paternal item people died. the way that this white house is completely turn their back on the free people of taiwan.
9:07 am
now they have the military strength to back it up and unfortunately the military state remains depended on china and a lot of our imports. what are they doing right now? they're trying to cut off taiwan. this reminds us we need to be stop being so relied on the communist party. >> harris: you talked about what former president donald trump did. what leverage do we have. by the way, we didn't even get to all of the fentanyl. they are killing our young people here. they are getting it into this country over the border south of us. >> james: we are integrated with them economically and we have benefits and that's why we don't want a cold war like we had with moscow. >> harris: can we pause right here? today with the threats of
9:08 am
military doesn't feel very cold in terms of cold war. >> james: one thing that does make this dangerous time is the president has been very clear in what their policy is. were left wondering did he mean? you go back reviewing the history. he came to power roughly a decade ago vice president biden was in charge of managing that relationship completely misjudge this man, completely misunderstood what he represented. unfortunately was a turn away from what had been a very nice trend of liberalization market opening in china. so we need to be strong on get back to that approach.
9:09 am
you have to think about that. you have to ask questions, why have we seen them paralleled the weakness from joe biden. i think it's fair to add the question but, look, compare over four years how the enemies of our country acted versus how they are acting now. china for threaten to take out the third in the line of presidential succession beer they've leveled that threat and said they're going to engage in paramilitary action. there still a rational nation i don't think they're going to engage nuclear powers. that being said they are flexing their muscles. put in invaded ukraine. that didn't happen over four years there's a difference difference. around thinking they're on the verge of a nuclear deal. our enemies are more emboldened than ever and you got one reason. he's sitting in the oval office.
