poll revealing 75% say the country is going in the wrong direction. you are watching fox & friends first on this friday morning i'm carley shimkus. hey griff. >> griff: hey carley, i'm griff jenkins in for todd piro. while biden's away, by the way, the white house launching a victory tour to celebrate all of his so-called accomplishments over the past 18 months, that's said to include the massive spending bill which will likely pass in the house today and head for biden's desk. >> carley: kevin corke is live in washington with more details on the bidens. kevin, good morning. >> kevin: carley, good morning to you. voter dissatisfaction abounds as most don't see an economic rebound. that according to the very latest fox news survey with large majorities rating the economy negatively, including, get this, over half of democrats. joining almost all republicans and independents in being dissatisfied. so while the president spent his weekend, as you pointed out, on a luxury island inside a fancy

$20 million mansion, a whooping 75% of americans say, look, i'm just not happy with the direction the country's going in. alas, that is not stopping the white house from taking a victory lap. >> all of the things that this president has done in 19 months, the most effective transformative legislation policies since lbj. >> what we're going to do is continue to have the president out making the case, you know, a lot of these things that we're seeing congress pass in these last couple of weeks are things the president campaigned on. >> this has been an extraordinarily successful 18 months of joe biden's presidency. and what's notable about it is the number of things that have been done in a bipartisan way, as well as those bills, like the inflation reduction act, that the republicans refuse to vote for. >> kevin: everything's fine. it's all g democrats expected to push through their massive spending agenda today, even

though nearly a third of lawmakers won't show up for the vote for, you know, the inflation reduction act, and a lot of them don't even know what's in the bill believe it or not. don't take my word on it, look at what the cbo says. given the scope of the amendment to title one, committee on finance cbo expect that it will be a few weeks before we can fully analyze and estimate those budgetary effects, at which point we'll provide a complete cost estimate for the legislation. republicans say the spending spree is flat-out reckless. >> this is ridiculous, unnecessary spending. when the government spends more money unnecessarily, it's going to lead to more inflation. 8% is still a lot of inflation. it's better than 10% but let this bill start funneling more unnecessary government money into the economy, inflation will again rise. >> kevin: james comber there. and apparentlyup roy agrees saying this about the democrats passing this massive spending

this irs deal because we have proof, non-partisan proof, that you are five times more likely to be audited the less wealthy you are. this goes for middle class taxpayers and senator from idaho put forward an amendment when announcing this bill saying, can we put into this law that no one making under $400,000 a year get audited and every democrat voted no. why would they want to vote no? well, because in order to pay for the inflation reduction act they had to find the money somewhere. where's the money going to come from? it's going to come from you and it's going to come from these audits and that's why they had to do this. they'll come back for more soon but basically they're trying to audit the poor to buy the rich electric vehicles >> hunter biden seemingly involved in more shady business dealings this time while helping a former biden aide with his house campaign. back in 2016, an advisor to then vice-president biden named francis person announced he was

department revealing he, personally, signed off on the push to raid former president trump's mar-a-lago home. watch this. >> i, personally, approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter. the department does not take such decision lightly. where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search. >> brooke: the attorney general also revealing his motion to make the search warrant public. >> the department filed a motion to make public the warrant and receipt, in light of the former president's confirmation of the search, the surrounding circumstances and the substantial public interest in this matter. >> brooke: and trump is on board writing on truth social quote not only will i not oppose the release of the documents related to the unamerican, unwarranted and unnecessary raid, i am going a step further by encouraging the immediate release of those documents. late last night, the washington post reporting that the fbi was

searching for classified documents on nuclear weapons that were allegedly withheld when agents subpoenaed trump back in the spring, but new york congresswoman claudia tenney joined us earlier in the show and she says the main stream media is grasping at straws. listen. >> everybody who has access, who's around the president in the closest top secret circles to what that situation is y would president trump have classified documents? these would be top secret and would definitely not be at mar-a-lago. >> brooke: now with senator ron johnson is calling for whistle blowers to expose corruption at the doj. >> i do not trust the fbi, i don't trust the upper echelons of the department of justice. again, the rank and file, those individuals, if you want to see integrity restored to your agencies, you need to come forward. >> brooke: and, guys, we could see a copy of the search warrant and a copy of the property receipt from monday's raid as

early as this afternoon. >> carley: all right brooke thank you so much >> let's bring in sam, former investigator to the u.s. senate and house of representatives. sam, good morning to you. what stands out to you the most from what we just learned? >> well, i think the thing that stands out most is just the unprecedented and destabilizing nature of what's happened. there was a tradition in this country that, if you're going to do something extraordinary, like raid your primary political opponent, you had to have overwhelming evidence of a serious crime, and you had to contemporaneously explain to the american people why this raid was necessary. why less intrusive means weren't petitioned. and not only have we not seen that, but we've seen a systematic doubling down on a refusal to follow this norm, and to comment.

and that is just an incredibly destabilizing situation to be in, and has real dangers for how our republic has functioned. >> griff:. >> griff: well, and sam our fox news legal analyst greg jarrett was basically calling garland out for hypocrisy. take a listen to this. >> merrick garland todaying unwhen ittingly stupidly undermind his own argument when he said oh, our standard practice is to use the least intrusive method. that's called a subpoena. and the fbi did that two months ago. they were counting on donald trump challenging it so that they would then be poised for a raid. but trump capitulated he gave them everything they wanted so they probably sat back at the doj and said now what are we going to do. >> griff: so, sam, as one who's familiar with investing these things, it seems to me that we really need to know what happened between those meetings in june, when everything seemed

to be -- everyone was on the same page, and the raid on monday. >> absolutely. and while normally that might not be something that's done in the public, in this instance, the department of justice owes an explanation and a time line. you know, we've seen a very public explanation in other cases. attorney general barr didn't have to release the mueller report, but he did. because it was important. people needed to know. >> carley: what do you make of this washington post reporting that the reason this raid took place is because the doj was looking for documents related to nuclear weapons. you now have trump's lawyer saying that there were no nuclear weapons related documents at mar-a-lago but, if that is the case, would a raid like this be warranted? >> it depends on what is meant by nuclear weapons. you know, is this very,

extremely confidential super sensitive information that could damage the credibility of our nuclear deterrent, or is this information that may be technically classified but is just a number of war heads somewhere. we just don't know. and, again, that just goes to show how destabilizing it is, that we're playing in rumor and innuendo rather than a clear explanation. >> griff: well, connect the dots, sam, we only have about 20 seconds left but do you believe, because the post article basically says that experts say they worry about this information falling into the wrong hands which suggests former president trump is a russian spy now which is what they started with way back when. did they not learn their lesson here. >> i don't think they did because they have a huge credibility deficit. look at cross fire hurricane. agents involved lied to the court to get a warrant.

>> fox weather alert, the iconic las vegas strip completely saturated by another wave of flash floods. and check out this incredible video from inside planet hollywood water leaking from the ceiling down to the casino floor. you can see the water pouring next to table games right there, major power outages leaving at least 17,000 customers without power, and more rain is expected through the weekend. meteorologist adam klotz is here with fox weather forecast. adam. >> good morning carley. you know what, kind of that time of year monsoonal rains around the southwest rounds and rounds of those get to that, but beginning with temperatures across the country, finally looking a little bit cooler. the dog days of summer and in the northeast where we've seen just intense heat over the last

week, a big break in the heat in the coming days where these are your daytime highs you're seeing a lot of spots into the upper 70s, upper 80s or mid 80s along the coast and as i take you through the weekend, moving through fairly quickly here it just stays cool so temperatures there right around the upper 70s around 80 degrees, much cooler less humid air only 72 degrees in washington, dc on monday. that's your daytime high. now, again, those showers that we were talking about taking you out west, rounds of big heavy rain have kind of fired up every time you get into the afternoon, big thunderstorms, and this has been happening every single day. it is the time of year where you see some of those monsoonal rains. this is additional rainfall so not including what we saw yesterday, widespread across the entire area you're seeing fox getting up to two to three inches of more rain, ground already saturated. that is enough for there to be flooding out there carley. so it's just kind of been that time of year where we're seeing so much rain and unfortunately i think more is to come. >> carley: all right, adam klotz

necessarily something that's shock going, however. you know, the new york times always talks about diversity in the news room and celebrating diversity and that's all great. but the most important diversity you can argue is the diversity of thought, right? and, according to barry wise, you know, here you have a senior editor questioning whether -- remember, tim scott's the only black republican senator in the united states senate. if he actually cares about his own race and minorities in this country, and then says we probably should check with one of the most senior people on the democratic side before we run this. it shows you that many of the decision makers at the new york times aren't there to serve and inform the public, but serve at the measure of the democratic party. it's not journalism, it's activism. >> griff: now, joe, since you're talking about schumer, let me turn to another thing i've been following and i was reporting earlier this week on bernie sanders refusing to outright endorse president biden for

another term. well, schumer just became the latest on that list to not go all in. listen to this. >> what's been your response to whether biden should or should not run? >> i'm not focusing on that. right now, if the election were held today, we would pick up a few seats. we're doing great. so please focus on the 2022 elections and let's deal with the presidency after that. >> he won't go there. what is going on here joe? why is joe biden having so much trouble getting up supporters for another term? >> well, you know, griff, chuck schumer is the majority leader right in the senate? he also agrees with an overwhelming majority of democratic voters. recent cnn polls 75% three in four democrats do not want joe biden to return for what would be a sequel because i guess the prospect of an 86 year old joe biden in office, and that's all he would be if he won a second term and stayed until the end is a prospect very few members of his own party are embracing because we're seeing the late

70s version of this president now and it's getting uncomfortable to wachlt i just find it amazeing that chuck schumer or aoc or other democrats like bernie sanders when they're asked this very simple question, they probably know it's coming, they just don't say he's the president, if he runs of course i support him 100%, it's even silly to ask that question. but it appears more and more of those within the party can't answer this question because maybe they're trying to send a message to mr. bind they don't want him to run without actually saying it out, carley and griff. >> carley: that's absolutely right and then the question turns to who, if not him, then who, and polls now are saying gavin newsome but you look at california and it's just a total mess. so the bench is very, very thin, if you will. yeah. small. there's also this sound that we have from abc news, and it was their reaction after the inflation report this week was revealed. and here's how they characterize

he's the biggest ever. he's getting what he asked for. he's a sanctuary city and you mean to tell me that 250 people make a difference to him? these poor women and children, they need help, you know, he should be standing there with a cold drink of water waiting on them when they get there. he needs to offer them child care. he needs to offer them welfare, and of course they need a phone. and then they need after school care. and they need buses and they need teachers who speak the languages. he's just getting a taste, 250 is absolutely minuscule. governor abbott needs to keep doing it, drop them in his neighborhood and every wealthy neighborhood in the country, drop them in the schools where their kids go and see where we show up. let something happen to one of their kids and see what we feel like as parents who have lost kid. he is laughable, what a cry baby. send whoever he wants to texas, i don't think they'll like it. >> griff: and governor abbott

frequently stresses that since this administration came into office 18 months ago, he launched operation lone star to try and get the border under control because of the types of individuals coming across our border. governor abbott saying that they have arrested, texas dps has arrested over 18,000 criminal migrants, quite a large number. marianne, your message to mayor adams? >> it's political theatrics. this administration, specifically mayorkas has been sending plane loads and bus loads of illegal aliens to new york and everywhere across this country since the spring of 2021. so the fact that a republican governor has now done this, and is bringing light to the dire situation at the border, that, you know, every one of our states that we represent, laura, jemele and myself. we face this on a daily basis.

dismiss recession claims but the latest labor numbers tell a different story. >> carley: that's right. jobless claims reaching the highest level this year. cheryl casone from our sister station fox business here to break it down. >> good morning to both of you, an initial jobless claims shows american spying for new unemployment benefits hit an 8-month high. the weekly print coming in at 262,000. that was a jump of 14,000 from last week. and this comes as many companies appear to be poised to cut jobs, google wal-mart apple met a and microsoft have announced freezes or layoffs as fears over a recession and overall economic slowdown have executives preparing for potentially the worst. this as americans continue to deal with inflation at 40-year highs. the latest news we got this week, 8.5% for the inflation

rate for the company. >> carley: that has to be wrong because both the president and vice-president said it was zero. >> they did carley and you're right. what they were talking about, to be fair, is the month to month number, that came in flat from june to july that inflation rate but we're talking about a fractional amount here when you look at the overall year to year build that is what you're seeing what they're dealing with. egg prices the wholesale level, chicken eggs 44% higher from last year and i've heard stories of egg shortages in grocery stores. all that filters into the economy, inflation on one side and americans dealing with that and that includes rent and mortgages, that's shelter in the report, on the other side you have the threat of job losses and it's a very real thing. we've been talking about that actually for weeks over on business about the fact that companies are really going to cut. >> carley: griff i know you want to get to another topic with cheryl but quickly you just reminded me the cost of food i was recently out to dinner with
