stage, punching or stabbing him as he was being introduced. salman rushdie was taken -- no word yet on his condition. his were attacked -- his attacker was restrained. he is planning to speak on the united states as a place of asylum for artists in exile, and as a home for freedom of grade of its oppression he's been banned in iran since 1988 for his book called "the satanic verses." many muslims consider it to be blasphemous. the ayatollah khomeini called him and offered $3 million for anyone to kill rushdie. we are waiting to hear from the sheriff's department and will bring more on this news when it comes. we are awaiting the release of more from the unprecedented raid -- it is expected to come in the next few hours as attorney general mary garland finally breaks his silence
9:02 am
reviewing that he personally approved the warrant from the fbi and mar-a-lago. president trump said he wanted the words to be public, saying "release the documents now." meanwhile, new reports are emerging on what exactly they were working for. "the washington post" said -- live with the latest. >> former president trump says that the nuclear story isn't real, there's no truth. he said he wants to release the documents, it's up to his attorney, and if they release them, they may do it by today. we know that this is an unusual move to see an attorney general publicly talk about the ongoing case, but this is an unusual circumstance. there is no doubt in that involving the former president. >> first, i personally approve the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter.
9:03 am
second, they don't take this decision light to lee. it is a practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search and narrowly scope any search undertaken. >> the attorney general said he decided to speak about the case that she was under intensive political and public pressure to say something. >> all americans are entitled to the law, the due process of the law, and to no presumption of innocence. -- and to a presumption of innocence. much of our work -- >> fox news has learned that -- a secret subpoena in early june when a top justice department fbi team visited mar-a-lago. those investigators towards that area of florida state were some of the documents were stored, briefly viewed and took custody of a small amount of potentially sensitive materials.
9:04 am
sources also say that federal investigators had spoken with at least one person who relayed the possibility of more sensitive national security material -- from other areas of the property. while we are waiting for everyone on the candle, it's the unsealed ash on the panel, the unsealed search warrant. there will likely be a list of what was taken from the property. these details, more will be in the affidavit. that's still sealed, and there's no telling if the judge would consider unsealing the affidavit. that would of course contain probable cause. >> thank you, david. let's talk a little bit about this. the attorney general seems surprised that he is the attorney general. he's the number one guy in the justice department. did he say enough yesterday? >> donald trump won the election and then said "i will pick somebody else." he might have a grudge against donald trump, but we learned nothing in that press conference, but to be fair we publish and have learned much
9:05 am
from it. what concerns me is when you have these unnamed sources talking to "the washington post" saying it's about nuclear documents, you saw it, you lived this for four years, were donald trump had unnamed sources. in the end, it was -- do they drive in there? donald trump took highly classified nuclear secrets at mar-a-lago, and they do not hear the correction, they do not hear the actual truth. it frustrates me, which is why i don't give credence to the story. donald trump was willing to cooperate. you artie heard that they served the subpoena, took these documents. donald trump gave them to them. he was cooperating. when do they go "donald, you have to have -- these secret documents in regards to nuclear weapons handed over." >> have you talked to anyone
9:06 am
inside the inner circle? and, how are they feeling about how people might have tipped off investigator's? >> i haven't talked to anyone in trump world about this, but i've read a wide array of reporting on this. they read that everything the morning before they go to congress. the west wing said this. he caught me by surprise. extraordinary -- on the part of politico. they said there were a few other details, and enough times when trump scandals over the past 70 years have seemed potentially explosive in their allegations. the stories failed to detonate. they are exactly right. i went through lafayette square, i was there. we were told one thing, and then the general's report came out and dismissed it all.
9:07 am
last week's story was dismissed categorically. they have maintained this as a credible and likely peace, which -- the intelligence community, they came out and dismissed it. these were all anonymous sources that turned out to be different later. i proceed with caution, particularly when "the washington post" -- people who describe some of the materials but did not offer additional details about the type of information in the report. that's not detailed seeking to the level of three anonymous sources, senior level in the fbi who are directly working on the investigation. my point is, wait for the facts to come out. there's a history for them, stories of anonymous sources that turned out not to be true. many networks do not wait for the facts. i heard james clapper last night go ahead and entertain that this is somehow a russia/potent
9:08 am
related document that trump took. i am not paraphrasing there. he jumped to russia, and we learn that that does not end well. there is speculation, which is the problem. there is fact and then there is speculation, but there are people reporting as though the speculation is fact, and that is part of the problem with knowing what happened. people fill up that vacuum with their own ideas. we won't get the affidavit. we aren't going to get anything about the source that very likely could have been a secret service agent, federal officers who work with colleagues. >> there's a lot of things it could be. it's interesting that within 100 days of election -- happening for 18 months. there are some things that are on the record.
9:09 am
present trump has a better record, as we discussed, when it comes to speaking the truth. he was called an idiot and bombastic for saying he was being wiretapped at trump tower, but lord knows that he was. when he says something else, or pushes back versus something new, that has lasted as the fall elements. i think what we've seen with the american people, which should disturb everyone regardless of what you think the president trump. we just simply don't believe what our government is telling us. we have seen this happen. yes, perhaps the target is donald trump, the most lied about man. beyond that, but the government seems willing to do to target him is shocking, and yes, if they are doing it to him, one of the richest men in the country, one of the most powerful, likely candidate again, former president -- it tells you there's a comfort level with
9:10 am
breaking those kinds of regulations via the most prevalent example. with these same agencies involved, the same media. we are charlie brown, and the government is lucy. standing there asking us again to kick the football, and we fall for it. we must stop falling for it. we must not become cynical, but we must stop and not let gossip be pushed by the same media outlets that push that gossip as true. perhaps deliberately to allow that vacuum to fill with wanderings, imaginations that you can fill up with your own little detail. aimed away from the midterm elections. donald trump may announce whether he is running for president or not. the entire system is being manipulated by these individuals -- safe to say -- or have the best interests of everyone involved, because there
9:11 am
certainly would have been other ways to approach that situation. >> new video and details just coming in on the attack on our author salman rushdie. this was in upstate new york just an hour ago. you can see people rushing to the stage, terrifying scene, after police say that a male suspect ran up on the stage and attacked him. he suffered an apparent stab wound in the neck, and was quickly surrounded by mobs of people who held up his legs, presumably to get more blood to his chest. he was transferred in by helicopter -- the interviewer suffered a minor head injury. immediately brings the suspect into custody. we will keep you updated and hold salman rushdie in our prayers. more "outnumbered" next.
