e i would have never done that before. try golo. it works. kevin: this is fox news alert, bipartisan congressional delegation has arrived in taiwan to discuss relations between the two countries, now this visit comes 12 days after house speaker nancy pelosi's controversial trip that drove tensions with china sky high, welcome to fox news live i'm kevin corke in washington. group of 25 lawmakers touching down in taipei for surprise two-day visit. alexandria hoff has the latest for us, alexandria.
10:01 am
i can see that -- i can see alexandria obviously talking there but we are having a bit of and adio issue, we will circle back and get back to her in a moment. in the mean time, i will take you out to the great state of florida where we have live pictures of mar-a-lago, the former president trump's beautiful estate. some have called it the southern white house. as for the former president he's pushing back against the fbi search of his home on social media saying the agency should return several boxes of privileged-attorney client material that they seized on monday and with the very latest on that we welcome good friend lucas tomlinson. lucas: good afternoon, lawmakers taking sunday talk shows, fallout across party lines, democratic chairman pushing back on former president trump's claims that he has the power to declassify any documents. >> the former president has no declassification authority and
10:02 am
the idea that 18 months after the fact that donald trump could simply announce, well, you know, retroactively declassifying or whatever i took home had the effect of declassifying them is absurd. lucas: president trump responding to fox report that some of the boxes seized from the mar-a-lago raid were covered by attorney-client privilege, quote, by copy of this truth i respectfully request that the documents be immediately returned to the location from which they were taken, thank you. earlier on cbs, former fbi agent and republican member of congress brian fitzpatrick was asked if a potential crime was committed? >> that remains open question and we know exactly where to look and that's the affidavit of probable cause, the one document that remains under seal. so because we don't have that information, i've encouraged all of my colleagues on the left and the right to reserve judgment and not get ahead of yourself because we don't know what the document contains. lucas: maryland republican hogan thinks the raid help it is former president.
10:03 am
>> it was actually a win for donald trump, seem today motivate his base and people rush to go his defense and feeling as if he was being picked upon and martyred. lucas: the admission from hogan who doesn't think trump should run in 2024, kevin. kevin: very interesting, we will hear, i think i suspect a lot more on the story as the week unfolds because they still have the documents and, again, the feds would argue that they have every right to have these documents but if you're the legal team for the former president, you want those things back as soon as possible. lucas thank you as always. all right, i want to share this too, you know, a lot of people probably didn't hear this story earlier today there was an incident over at the capitol that really, i think, surprised a great number of people. what can you tell us about that? >> well, kevin u.s. capitol police spoke describing an incident that took place at 4:0g behind the capitol next to library congressman supreme court. >> a vehicle collided with a

barricade on east capitol street at second street. the vehicle burst into flames, the driver exited the vehicle and the driver began walking down east capitol street toward the capitol. he began -- he took out a handgun, began firing that gun indiscriminately and he took the gun to himself and shot himself. kevin: you know, this is a story that we will unpack a little more as the day goes on but i was surprised and i think instruct by the fact that this is something that not only happened at the capitol, it's not the first time we have seen something like this unfold not very far from here, lucas. lucas: second time in a year and a half, kevin, in fact, i was out there for the last one.
10:05 am
kevin: let's hope they can continue to be safe over there because there can be discourse in the country and should not rise to the level of violence, lucas, we appreciate your time today. lucas tomlinson. let's go over to alexandria hoff she has stop top story, bipartisan delegation in taiwan, alex, do i have you? alex: you have me kevin, i'm glad that we can hear each other because this is interesting. we are not getting immediate reaction out of china with speaker pelosi's trip. this group landed around 7:00 p.m. local time in taiwan and they are there to discuss issues of mutual interest, u.s.-taiwan relations and ed marky of massachusetts leading delegation joined by garimendi and republican congresswoman amua amata delegate from america samoa, taiwan ministry accompanied photos with the tweet that read, we thank the like-minded u.s. lawmakers for timely visit and unwavering

support. despite the island democracy being self-governed, beijing claims taiwan as their territory and objects to any official contact with foreign governments particularly high-ranking leaders like speaker pelosi and since the speaker's visit taiwan defense ministry says china has sent missiles, warships and war planes in seas and skies around taiwan, some crossing the midpoint of the taiwan strait and continuing beyond when china said that those drills would end. now president biden cited concern over china's response and pelosi's trip did not have the official backing of the white house but it did earn bipartisan support. republican congresswoman diana weighed in saying that she wished today's surprise visit including more. >> i'm part of china task force and i didn't get the invitation. if they had advised we would

10:08 am
some congressional democrats were evasive and others tried to make impossible claims connecting the recent drop in gas prices to this bill that the president hasn't even signed yet. >> we are already feeling the effects to a certain extent because we have seen gas prices come down. that's been huge. as soon as the act goes into effect, i hope that all of the positions will begin to work. >> what parts of the bill do you think will put the work on that? >> next question. jacqui: administration officials have been making the case that americans should feel the impacts of this bill soon because medicare negotiation wills bring down the cost of prescription drugs and energy costs will come down because of climate investments like tax credits for electric cars and solar panels. >> first of all, immediately, people will be able to lower the fuel costs in their home. 30% tax credit that you can claim in 2022 for installing energy efficient windows, heat
10:09 am
pumps, energy efficient appliances, that is right away and on top of that, of course, if citizens want to install solar panels on the roofs so they can generate their own power, that's another 30% tax credit. jacqui: but, of course, spending money on things like solar panels and eletric heat pumps in order to save money on your eletric bills is really not the exact same thing as lowering the inflated costs for goods that we have been paying across the economy with inflation remaining at 40-year highs. back to you. kevin: you nailed it, jacqui heinrich, enjoy the great weather, i know you're working hard but enjoy it while you can. let's turn to panel, joined by democratic strategist kevin as well as republican strategist, attorney and former chair of the massachusetts republican party jennifer, guys, thank you for

spending time with us. before we really hammer home what's happening on the domestic front, i want to share live pictures of we are seeing transpire in taipei taiwan. i don't have a live picture now, i just want to get your take on this, kevin, first through you and then over to you, jennifer. what do you think the domestic political fallout might be for this visit? >> well, certainly it's critically important, kevin, to show unity with taiwan. it's so important to see bipartisan delegations. i know speaker pelosi but he couldn't make it. this was an important delegation that we set forth that our leaders can travel freely in the world especially to taipei and taiwan and certainly that relationship is so firm not just on the economic front but on the security assistance front and we need to see more delegations like this going forward.
10:11 am
kevin: jennifer, your thought? >> i agree with kevin but i think that it would be really nice to see an even split of the delegation with republicans and democrats and not that it's just a one-sided trip. i mean, we have serious concerns going on overseas with china where they would, you know, seemingly like to take over not just taiwan but take over the united states as well. and so i think it is really important to show a united and very strong front from our team in congress and not that it's just nancy pelosi's house. kevin: speaking of serious, i want to get your take first to you, jennifer, on the raid, i know say it was a court after-ad searching. that's your prerogative. i just want to get your take, though, on what that means domestically in terms of politics because it seems to me, jennifer, that there are a lot of people that feel like there's a real disconnect between the way the doj and this

administration is treating the former president and those who worked with him versus the way they treat, say, democrats am i right or wrong? >> well, i think you're right. we see what happened with hillary clinton when she wiped her server cleaned and hunter biden's laptop, that that was never investigated and never brought front as to what eminent threat was on his laptop. yet we see the republican, former president, almost two years after he was not reelected, having home raided and having wife's closet gone through and feels as though it is a political fishing expedition looking for actually on january 6th and not on what the doj claims and i will also say that there's a poll done back in i think may that over 50% of the population, that includes republicans and democrats losing faith in the
10:13 am
doj. they have serious issues to overcome but it's looking more and more like a political ploy than anything that actually they were looking for. kevin: kevin, i don't think there's any question. something like this appears to have fired up the republican base ahead of the midterms and if that is the case, what was expected to be a wipe-out could be even worse and yet there are democrats out there who say it's about time, your thoughts? >> yeah, it's a good question. we are 85 days away from the midterm election. it's too soon to tell what effect this will have in terms of election prospects for republicans and democrats. 3 serious criminal provisions in law that were as part of this search carried out last week at mar-a-lago. these are serious concerns before the american people. i think we need to learn a lot more about the supporting documents as part of this. i think you can see donald trump is obviously very concerned

decades. bill: and kevin, i've been down here covering this border crisis for almost a year and a half straight now and one thing i can tell you a lot of the border patrol agents i've talked to, their morale is just in the toilet right now. they are frustrated by these huge groups who keep coming across. it sucks up their resources, it stops their agents from being able to patrol elsewhere on the front lines, many of them tell me right now they feel like they've been turned into glorified social workers just doing paperwork and being uber drivers essentially all day long. kevin: that frustration, bill, extends across the country because americans see what's happening and they don't feel like they are getting the sort of support that the border patrol agents need and the country certainly not seeing the difference as the people continue to stream across the southern border. bill melugin, thank you so much. for more on this, we bring the president of the national border control council, brandon judd, brandon, as we begin the conversation, these are border

10:27 am
when you talk about mexico not taking these people back because under title 42, you're talking about the country is not taking them back, these people are in mexico illegally as well. when they cross the border between guatemala and mexico they commit and illeg in mexico, but mexico is not charging any of them. they are not being true border security partners right now and that's simply because of the amount of money that these cartels are generating and that money goes back into mexico and it goes into their economy. so when you look at this, this is all cartel driven, it's a problem based upon our policies and the cartels are exploiting those policies. kevin: it is a crushing disaster because real people, children are being abused in this circumstance, human trafficking is unbelievably bad right now. let me share the number of fentanyl busts. i mean, this is beyond devastating not just for border communities but i think brandon it's also fair to say when we talk about fentanyl busts, we are talking about enough fentanyl to kill hundreds of thousands of people. it's in cars and being brought

over the border by backpack and any other manner of transportation and it doesn't seem like despite the talk that the administration has figured out a way to stop this from happening or curtail it based on the numbers i just showed you, do you think they are working to get this under control? >> i know they're not. i've had multiple conversations with officials in this current white house. they know what they can do. they know what policies they need to implement, they know the programs but when we put on a uniform i was out patrolling the border just the other night on a midnight shift and what happens is the cartels know that all they have to do is flood our resources, take us out of the field an when they take us out of the field that's when the cross the higher vol products, that's february nil and that's coming into the united states. it should not surprise anybody that the amount of drugs that are on our streets today correspond with the number of illegal immigrants that are crossing and when they cause explosion in illegal immigration that then allows them to get their drugs across and then it
