on a very busy wednesday morning i'm todd piro. >> carley: carley shimkus and marianne rafferty covering all the keys this morning, marianne, good morning. >> good morning carley and todd appear in primary starting in new york where jerry nadler won decisive victory over congresswoman carolyn maloney after redistricting three term democrats and powerful committee members against each other. meanwhile, the patrick ryan winning a special election and an important swing district. ryan focused his campaign on the supreme court recent ruling of overturning roe v. wade sending clear message to republicans using deceit to flip the house. the newly redrawn 17 congressional district, democratic congressional campaign chair sean patrick maloney defeated progressive challenger state senator alessandro biaggi. he will face g.o.p. assembly member mike waller this november. now to florida's former orlando

police chief and current democratic val demings wins her primary and will take on republican senator marco rubio. rubio looking to serve a third term and while recent poll shows deming's was a slight lead, rubio is favored to keep his seat. in florida's redrawn 7th congressional district, army and afghan war veteran cory mills wins the republican nomination and will face democrat and former florida vice chair karen green. and in another win for a trump-backed republican, anna paula luna upsets the 13th congressional district and will face democrat challenger eric lin. and the sunshine state governors race, charlie first with agricultural nikki friede who was favored to win before charle crist threw his hat into the ring. charlie crist will face randy sentence who vows to continue the fight against biden's destructive policies. >> we have a policy to make sure

the students come out of the school system understands what it means to be an american. they need to understand that our rights come from god, not from the government. >> and on the local level, three candidates backed by governor's desantis from the liberal majority to a 4-1 conservative line. back to you guys. >> todd: marianne rafferty for setting the stage, marianne, thank you. let's focus on the ryan versus -- not that big of a deal but will be a congressman for 1t the big take away but what this could mean and it is a bellwether for the midterms. i think we could realize three things, one, you have to wake up because this is not in the bag, you've recounted your chickens before they hatch definitely in the senate and you don't want to do that in the house. number two, need to have a dual track approach right now to try to get voters.

you need to appeal to your base to get them out of the midterms. you did that by focusing on a fauci investigation and figuring out what happened at mar-a-lago. but you also at the same time need to focus on the things that will get out independence. point out crime. crime not good in this country, folks. you need to focus on inflation, and you need to focus what is happening at the border while tying in with parental rights. i know it requires walking and chewing gum, but you've got to do it to read avoid results like mark molinaro. >> carley: are you working on a campaign and leading us? you make a lot of good points. when it comes to the hudson valley, politico says "trump candidates are talking up wins but heavily faced democrats appear at ease. in new york special election seen as the last best tests of the electorate midterm leaning confirmed what democrats hold and republicans feared. prediction of a red wave may be

overblown." fox news digit with power rankings and republicans are still expected to win in the house, and they are favorable in the senate. but in both, it is tightening. republicans are expected to win at least by two. but if you think -- back to three months ago, two months ago, people were talking about republicans winning by 60 house seats. so you do have to wonder why. i think what it's coming down to, i think a lot of these suburban races that were really republican strongholds for a while are now more in the middle, possibly leaning left. the key indicators are that the roe v. wade decision is one that is really turning the tide in democrats favor. >> todd: joe borelli has something to say about that. take a listen. >> in this particular race, we had a marquee candidate, someone who ran for governor well liked in the republican party in the region. this is a district suburban primarily and rule where

republicans in the state and frankly around the country are trying to pick up momentum. it was clear that the issues of inflation and the issues of crime in new york state motivated republicans, but not the same way the issue of abortion motivated a lot of democrats. >> todd: republicans, you need to not let the democrats dictate the terms of the game. the democrats are going to force you into a decision on abortion. republicans... be to still advise. >> todd: you need to also make sure this is a referendum on president joe biden because approval numbers are not great and may have risen slightly but gas prices will not be going down until the fall. they are going up. >> carley: can i make one last point? the national rates are getting the attention for obvious reasons because they are national. charlie crist winning in florida, but it is a big deal that the sarasota county school board shifted from liberal to conservative.

off on it. of course come again this new revelation indicates, of course, he was involved, of course, a new and again, you can't lie to the american people. you can, but we will find out, right? >> carley: you can find out. the national archives discovered apparently more than 700 pages of classified documents at trump's home in january and this is seen as possible justification for going into trump's home and reading it. is it? >> well, donald trump said i declassified these when i went with me and so no, but by the way you came to my home in june. you took 700 documents, okay and if you thought there were more there why didn't you come back down and take the rest of the documents? that you thought i had that were classified? the process, why wouldn't it work in august? i think this was a predicate to go search his whole house.

when you look at the breadth of what we discussed earlier, you can search everywhere for basically anything. in trump's home. so, the way they did this tells me they were looking for something other than classified documents. this was about whether it was documents that trump had that were going to go to a civil suit against the dnc with clinton and fbi employees. or january 6th. but this is such a historic search, the breadth of the warrants made no sense. just to go back and get more documents that you say were classified when you could have done what you did in june? why wouldn't you do that in august qwest market doesn't make sense to me. >> carley: sean, the school board we actually have two but the kettle moraine school board in wisconsin voted in favor of banning all religious and political symbols in classrooms.

that includes gay pride flags, black lives matter flags and bags and signs. it cuts both ways and some people are stating, that may be good, but also if you have been all political and religious, how far does it go? can we say, in god we trust" and other things perceived as political that a lot of parents think are good. what do you think about this? >> liberals would say the american flag as political as well. therefore, it should not be in the classroom. it can go that far to a point, karly heath. but i think what we have seen, of course, many of us would like and by the way, historic symbols as well. but i think you are seeing a lot of woke left with teacher colleges and they want to bring in the themes of gay pride or blm. they push those themes on the students. i think the school boards and the parents so what was happening and said, "we have to

get rid of all of this." you can't say gay pride and blm so let's get rid of all the symbols. let's teach math, science, english to children and leave the themes out of the classroom. i think this probably makes sense seeing how woke our students have become to get rid of all of it and go back to the basics. >> todd: speaking of woke, the school board floating to teach kindergartners body part names, second graders gender stereotypes, third-graders about transgender students and body image and six graders different types of sexual activity. and high schoolers will be taught warning signs of abusive relationships and contraception. sean, why the heck of any of this stuff being taught in school and the first place when they should be learning math and science? >> listen, todd, this is one of the reasons why parents are running for the door trying to get their kids out of the public school and get them into one of

their homeschool spot with her catholic school christian academy. they want the kids to learn math, science, english and they also want to learn about these sexual identities and preference of body parts. at such a young age. there is an appropriate time to have a conversation about these topics, but it is probably in your home. but the school, we are looking for later in life as opposed to kindergartners, third-graders, six graders really having conversations. and just a note, this school is not like san francisco and never has been. it was a pretty conservative area not that long ago. it is remarkable how fast it can change. the school board a suburb of milwaukee would transition with radical policies. and this kind of stuff is happening everywhere. and i think the point here is elections matter. run for school board to make

♪ ♪ >> carley: good morning, everyone. let's take a look because record-setting floods across texas. you see the video. the rain will continue louisiana, mississippi, florida the next couple of days. we have flooding concerns for eastern texas and much of louisiana and towards mississippi and a little section of arkansas. the rain still to come over the next five days. we will focus on the regions along the gulf coast and then florida, the good news finally, we start to see the cold front on the move. that is going to drive things out, but it will take us over the next couple of days to get there. this weekend, much better for the states we have been watching where we see incredible amounts of flooding. so new orleans, panama city, atlanta, birmingham and as we get to the beacon things improve. there is the good news. we have monsoon moisture in the four corners and then we also see the potential for showers

take." bill mcgurn wall street journalist joins us now. what do you make of this move by gavin newsom a 182 almost everything else he has done during his administration? >> well, there is an election soon. you know, this is an old story of politicians discovering their conservative inner self, you know, close to the time they go before voters. this happens for years. how can you sign that bill with all the crime and homelessness in california. i think instant ads for republicans. so i don't read too much into it because i don't think these democrats that are sounding these republican notes are willing to do something that actually defeats the progressive bill. they will give it.

messaging? >> well, they have to worry. you are referring to the 19th district in new york where there is good kind of national matchup and the republicans emphasize crime and taxes and so forth. and the democrat emphasize abortion. it was very close, but the democrat won. but my point about all of these people, all of these democrats who are running ads saying i buff my party, it is not true. the test is whether they buff them when it makes a difference. only joe manchin and kyrsten sinema did that and ultimately, they surrendered. all of the other people have voted largely for the biden agenda. and once nancy pelosi has the votes, she doesn't care if they vote no on something she wants

federal student loan payments until january. the estimated cost at this point to taxpayers $300 billion. if instead they decide to cancel $50,000 per borrow work, that cost blends to $980 billion. estimated that the plan would benefit 73% of homes in the top 60% of u.s. earners but progressive groups naacp says it doesn't go far enough. across racial groups, black borrowers hold the most debt despite consistently underserved by postsecondary institutions. $10,000 is not enough. cori bush tweeting this: "black borrowers have twice as much and after four years of college, $28,000 of student is a racial and economic justice issue period. what would canceling $50,000 mean for you?" the president is scheduled to arrive back at the white house here that will be later this

is this going to happen? >> carley, all the people are saying it is going to happen. something is going to happen in that area. so, i think it is ridiculous. it is a slap in the face for the people that chose not to go to college. most of this money will go to the people up or fit 60%, white color who went to college. it was their own choice. they decided to go to college and put this debt on themselves. now, everyday hardworking americans have to basically bail them out and pay higher taxes in order for them to get this bailout. i don't think it is the right thing to do. certainly, adding another $300 billion to the deficit. again, the democrats spend, expand, expand, 's branko trying to buy votes before mid terms. >> carley: wait a second the inflation reduction act is a great thing because it would decrease the deficit by $300 billion and if this cost $300 billion what was the point

of that? you have larry summers saying canceling the net canceling the debt would increase inflation. >> oh, right it absolutely does because another $300 billion into the economy and $300 billion circulating. that is all to add to inflationary pressure. look, you never listen to what the democrats actually say, the anti-inflation act has nothing to do with anti-inflation but about 87,000 new irs agents coming after us and trying to get $200 billion from the pockets to pay for all of these green new deal and all the other stuff that the democrats want to pay for, including this bailout. the democrats will stop at nothing in order to try to maintain control in the house and senate this november. this is one way to try to do that by getting these young people to have student debt to be grateful to them for

forgiving $10,000 worth of data. >> carley: the other thing, congressman, the president keeps on breaking about the unemployment rate. 3.5% and he made a speech earlier this month called the lowest unemployment rate in the history and over 50 years. more people are working then any point in american history. so why would we be canceling student loan debt now for people who signed a contract saying they would pay this money and have jobs? >> the only explanation i have at this point is basically trying to buy votes. $10,000 is a nice incentive. but i think people that are may be getting this forgiveness is $10,000 loan forgiveness, i think they are smart enough to know it is not the right thing to do. they will take the $10,000, thank you very much, but i do not think it will translate into votes come november appear the rest of us paying for it will certainly not be happy that we e going to have to pony up

appalled like i am and many other americans. this is not the country that we hoped for. this is not america anymore. it's become more socialist. it's very frightening the direction our country is going right now. >> carley: you also write in your piece which by the way is beautifully written. i recommend everybody read it on foxnews.com. you write that your husband didn't support the black lives matter movement in the same year that he was murdered there were a lot of children who were also shot' and black lives matter did not show up for any one of their families but still you had communities across the country defund their police departments as a result of this movement. two years later, what sort of lessons can we learn from this? >> are violence has soared. they were bullied into this. it became like the fashion of the time and they were all bullied into it, i believe. and, you know, now we are seeing

repercussions of it. we have more children dying on the streets. our communities are dying. we have a lot of communities are becoming vacant and people are leaving. they are not being funded. you know, we have a lot of black communities in the city of st. louis destroyed during those riots, knob of them were rebuilt. no money given back to them. suffering across our country losing their children. look at chicago and st. louis numbers. we are losing children left and right every day. >> todd: ann dorn, thank you for your time this morning and again our condolences on the passing of david. we appreciate it meantime hundreds of service members who may have been hurt in combat taking their power back. competition for active military and vets to showcase their skills and how they overcame the odds. one hero, in fact, sharing his story of resilience as the only one-handed medic in the u.s. military. >> we focus on ability not disability. and that's why we are here. we are showing everybody what we are able and capable to do.

i wanted to feel that sense of family again. that's what drove me. the warrior games continue this week with closing ceremonies on sunday and now i want to toss it to carley shimkus who has a big announcement to share with all of you. >> carley: my announcement is that i'm pregnant. [cheers] expecting a baby in february. it still doesn't feel real. i am going to be a mom. i'm so excited about this. i'm so excited to see my husband pete with a baby. is he going to be the best dad. so, yeah, a lot of changes but all good ones. >> janice: do we know what the baby is going to be? >> carley: it is. >> janice: like a reveal? will it be pink or blue, folks? here we go. it's a boy. >> todd: change the kyron. baby boy. they were ready.

>> janice: i can tell you all about boys. i have two. >> carley: tell me everything. i don't know how to raise a child. the begin something a little bit scary if you have never done it before but you have so many mommas here that are going to help. >> carley: i don't know if it was a 50/50 chance or mom's intuition but the second i found out i was pregnant i knew it was a boy. i was telling everybody it wasn't even like a girl wasn't even an option. and then when i found out it just was such an exciting moment. my husband is so excited to have a little boy. >> what about your parents and mom? >> carley: thrilled beyond thrilled. i went to 16 weeks sonogram yesterday, and everything looks great. and truly, i know that babies are born every single second of the day. women get pregnant every single second of the day. it's the most magical
