6:00 pm
we finished our documentary called transgressive cult of confusion. debates next week september 8th. have the best night and weekend with the ones you love. we are proud to announce tommy bruce sitting in for sean hannity. >> tammy: thank you. welcome to everyone on "hannity." i am tammy bruce in for sean. in one of the most disgusting speeches ever delivered by a sitting president. joe biden suggested that 74 million americans are enemies of the state -- all while using the marine corp officers props. >> we must be honest with each and ourselves. too much what is happening in
6:01 pm
our country today is not normal. donald trump and the maga republicans represent an extremist that threatens the foundations of our republic. there is no question that the republican party today is dominated and intimidated by donald trump and the maga republicans. that is a threat to this country. here in my view is what is true. maga republicans do not respect the constitution. they do not believe in the rule of law. the maga forces are determined to take this country backwards. backwards to an america where there is no right to choose. no right to privacy. no right to contraception. no right to marry who you love. they fan the flames of political violence.
6:02 pm
maga republicans look at america and see carnage and darkness and despair. they spread fears and lies for profit and power. >> tammy: all of that is a lie. this was a national prime time national presidential address you paid for. but there was nothing presidential about this speech. it was a campaign event full of demeaning rhetoric with ominous red lighting and his promise to u newt the country was a lie. he will persecute political enemies in biden is mentally capable. evening during the scripted speech he struggled in a big way. >> my fellow americans. please, have a seat, take it. i speak to you tonight from sacred ground in america.
6:03 pm
we can't -- can't be pro-insurrectionists and pro- america. we could create a clean future and save the planet. the maga republicans for them to succeed everyone else has to fair. i believe america is big enough for all of us to succeed. our democracy is not perfect. it always has been. not withstanding the folks you heard on the other side. they are entitled to be outrageous. this is a democracy. history and common sense. >> [cheers and applause]. >> good manners is nothing they have ever suffered from. >> tammy: with reaction fox news
6:04 pm
white house correspond peter doocy. >> in front of independence hall where the founders wrote the constitution. the president's theme was that he thinks america has started to go off script. he singled out maga republicans and compared them to mainstream republicans. we were led to believe it would understand a speech about any particular party or person. but we did hear president biden allude to former president trump to say this. >> the republican party today is dominated and intimidated by donald trump and the maga republicans. that is a threat to this country. >> president biden had harsh words for this part of the republican party he called the
6:05 pm
maga republicans. he thinks they will use violence to achieve political means which is a danger and said they don't respect the constitution and don't respect the results of elections and that's a wing of the party that empowers election deniers. listen here. >> democracy can't survive when one side believes there are only two out comes to the election. they win or they were cheated. that's where the maga republicans are today. >> [applauding]. >> they don't understand what every patriotic american knows: you can't love your country only when you win. >> president biden that moving forward he doesn't want to be anymore more culture wars or politics of grievance. you mentioned the use of the
6:06 pm
marine band. we were told this would not be a political speech but we heard the president twice talk about voting. once to get the crowd going saying vote, vote, vote. and the other time to say people need to do their duty in 2022 which is a direct political statement made by the president here before he left town. he is on his way back to the white house. we will follow-up with him tomorrow. >> tammy: peter, thank you very much. the entire scenario is shocking. your reporting is fabulous. thank you, sir. joining us with more reaction is special report anchor bret baier. obviously we are all political people. we understand passion. lord knows we understand that. but this was remarkable. i remember when hillary's deplorable speech shocked people. here he is after a speech
6:07 pm
condemning 80 million americans, he wants an end to the politics of grievance. what is your take sowhat this is tonight and how this is viewed? >> well, a couple of things. the white house speech secretary said this would not be political. this was a convention speech in front of independence hall, i too was struck by the image -- of the dark red lighting the with two marines standing at attention in the background. when we analyze things, we do it through the prism of how the media would cover it if donald trump gave this speech. they might not stop talking about it for weeks on end. the message was so aggressive. it was all a blueprint for democratic candidacies. this is how we will run. this is what you should be talking about. he hit tones of optimism about
6:08 pm
america, he clearly was trying to divide and drive a wedge in the republican party. i think the political advisors to the president believe the more they talk about donald trump and the country does, the better positioned they are to not be talking about inflation, crime and immigration. >> tammy: miranda from the "new york post" said this was a string of clichys interspersed with vile. do they believe their base -- will embrace this when the base is having problems economically and can't find baby formula? who do they think they are appealing to.
6:09 pm
it's the base. this may be the marker saying i am not done. i am run in 2024 -- i have done some things. this is the way we need to run going forward. i think it's about stirring the base. i think that may have lost some people in the middle who were upcelt about the student loan move and paid off their college or didn't go to college -- to get people fired up, the more you talk about maga republicans and this has been researched by democratic pollsters was said 11 times in the first 12 minutes and throwing in donald trump's name specifically. it was very targeted. >> tammy: and they came up with the multi-maga king and that back fired. he was elected because we wanted
6:10 pm
more calmness. he campaigned on being a unifier. it's not as though he just failed. he went polar opposite in what sounds like when you have the military standing behind you, this is some kind of a cold war against your neighbor. >> he did frame it as a battle. it was interesting framing. the sentences used. this is whenever this white house, this president has been pushed into a political corner, it's a hat tip to the progressive side of the party. to stecher that pot. the candidate joe biden is much different than the president joe biden. he's had some bipartisan wins
6:11 pm
but this was a 100% political speech. he used the unity line towards the end but it was about dividing the opinion party. >> tammy: bret baier, thank you very much. tonight, once again joe is giving you his word as a bind. -- biden. watch this. >> even with all of the challenges we face i give you my word as a biden i have never been more opti i ist -- optimi about america's future. >> tammy: really? remember this? >> to restore the soul and secure the future of america requires so much more than words. requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy:
6:12 pm
unity. unity. do you want to be on the side of dr. king or george wallace? or lewis or connor? or lincoln or jefferson davis? bringing america together and uniting our people and our nation. i ask every american to join me in this cause. it is the most pernicious thing. this makes jim crow look like jim eagle. we can see each other as neighbors and treat each other with dignity and respect. what a stupid son of a -- join the forces and stop the shouting and lower the temperature. there are thousands of people in america going through that. these republicans ripped that
6:13 pm
out of the bill. we are coming back. we must end in uncivil war that pits red against blue. trump and the extreme maga republicans made their choice to go backwards full of anger, violence, hate and division. . >> tammy: charlie, you watched a lot of presidency. we have been around for a lot of elections. a lot of t things that have been said by people all the time that we don't like. would you agree this is unprecedented and strikes me as almost hoping someone will tip over and something will start? a spark will be lit. your take on this? >> well, first of all the speech, i have never seen such an angry, rancid speech in which
6:14 pm
a president attacks the voters he supposedly works for. never seen anything like it. it's senseless. at another point he talks about how this is not normal. we heard that a lot during the 4 years of trump's first term. what is weird about this. my goodness, democrats control the white house in both chambers of congress. if it's not normal, look at yourself. maybe that's the problem. it's funny. i calculated this in my mind whether i would say this. i am afraid you are right. if i were to be honest about it, i think he is doing everything he can do gin uppin inpin iping something so people get out of hand. that's terrifying for a president trying to do that to benefit himself ahead of an
6:15 pm
election in which he will get punished for gas prices, inflation and open borders and crime. those are the issues that people care about. >> tammy: right. we spent the summer of 2020 dealing with violence and riots. a group calling itself anti-fascists were involved. now we have that same rhetoric saying that trump voters are semi-fascists. looking to the history of violence that none of us want. is this something -- he alluded to that. there was a sentence of violence is never a tool we can use. almost to get it out of the way. what do you think joe biden expects to happen when rhetoric like this is used? >> i could take it more seriously if i heard it earlier. during the democratic convention
6:16 pm
in 2020 i listened for a denunciation of the black lives matter riots or the antifa violence. i didn't hear that from joe biden or kamala harris. he could say lets turn down the temperature. to maga republicans, don't underestimate joe biden. this was a very obknocksous speech but he gave the democrats a battle cry. he would rather have them talking about that than critical race theory -- like it or not at any point. it gives them something else to talk about. republicans should work hard to win this victory. nothing is baked in the cake yet. >> tammy: that's a good point.
6:17 pm
governor you know what politics is like. they expect this to have some kind of benefit. obviously they won in the last election with so much violence surrounding the environment. do you think they will realize this was a mistake or is this what we will see until the presidential election beyond the mid-terms? >> tammy, i think is going down in history as the speech known as the get off my lawn speech! joe biden tonight was an angry old man yelling at 74 million americans and saying we don't love democracy or america. we are not honorable people. that revs me up to vote. i almost didn't make it on time tonight because after the speech i had to take a shower to get the spittle of joe biden off of me.
6:18 pm
i have never seen anything like it. this was the kind of speech you would give in the heat of a campaign. you never give this speech as a president. honestly, i have never seen anything like it. joe biden tonight for a man who doesn't like fossil fuel he used 10 words of the national gas supply in america gas lighting trying to project his anger on the rest of america. it was disgusting and shocking. the reason it may work is because he has a partner. the media. they will be with him all the way. >> tammy: charlie, you are in the media. great newspaper the washington "times" and you think about your audience. there is a diversity of people who watch this network who voted for trump. numbers are shifting with hispanic and libertarians. as americans we all have the
6:19 pm
future in mind. we all care about our families and how they are being taught. we care about violence and crime and open borders. you would think the president would want to bring those people in. it's as though they are just throwing 80 million people overboard not by ignoring but them insulting them and threatening them. am i reading too much into that? >> no, i don't think so at all. what is absolutely obvious from that speech tonight is that joe biden want to talks about absolutely anything but those issues. you put your finger on the thing that is important. democrats care about paying high gas prices and the safety of their children and not playing disastrous inflation prices at the grocery store. the fact he has no response
6:20 pm
whatsoever, can't campaign on any of those things, demonstrates how far out of touch he is with his own voters. >> tammy: there was a reuters poll after the mar-a-lago raid and the student loan bailout. biden went down 7 points in 1 week. is this a panic? perhaps it's like there is nothing they can do. maybe they thought the mar-a-lago raid would bring dividends? throwing more people at people would bring dividends. they don't understand the american people and they don't understand our lives. this is just like the last hurrah of what they can do? >> i think what biden is trying to do is get his base excited and hope the far left democrats who have been disappoints whered him, this will get them back in
6:21 pm
the fray. -- [audio breaking up]. this guy is a leftist. he wants to appeal to the left and hope that gets his numbers up high enough to prevent a total destruction. >> tammy: i have been one of them thinking he had been kids napped and none of this made sense -- it does make sense. that's what dr. jill wants. all of them own what this is what will be a horrible, embarrassing, debilitating legacy for that family. it's a shame. it's an insult to the democrats and to every other american in this country. gentlemen, thanks for joining us ton tonight. the left wasted no time

>> tammy: before biden's dark and depressing speech, karine-jean pierre claimed the speech was only divisive because biden touched a nerve. >> we understand we hit a nerve. we understand they are trying to hand and ultra-maga office holders want to dodge responsibility for their actions.
6:27 pm
. >> tammy: you guys, you know politics. we understand. it's rough and tumble. this is not a bouncy castle. we appreciate people being passionate. but when you talk about they are trying to hide and they are trying to pretend. it's as show you are talking about an actual enemy. in the taliban got in here and we were chasing down squads of taliban. i worry because we know that no americans want this. and yet here's the president of the united states and his spokespeople unified in casting tens of millions of americans, people like you and me as being enemies of the state. what is your take on this tonight? >> i totally agree. you hope people are paying attention out there. this is intentional.
6:28 pm
this was calculated. this is joe biden coming full circle from the uniifying speech on november 8th and the 14th of december and january 20th. a total bait and switch. i hope the republicans are paying attention. they have decided to call the question on what the definition of democracy was. this started 3 weeks ago with the nbc poll when they rolled it out and said guess what? americans are concerned about the direction of our democracy. this has been a theme going on every other day for the last 3 weeks. here we are today with a speech by joe biden. what the democrats are calculating that their vision and their version of democracy in america, of gender obsession
6:29 pm
and no border and no energy independence and obsession with climate change, their vision is what true democracy is. the other opinions of the republicans, 75 million people. that's not democracy. that's rebellion. that's maga. something we need to shy away from. that's what this is about. >> tammy: steven, when we think about the notion you want to bring a country together. that's part of a president's job. even the rhetoric about being a unifier. the democrats were the dividers. trump was just trying to do his job. even with all of the tore -- torpedoes coming at him. energy independence. the wage gap shrinking. unemployment the lowest rate ever. they ran oh we need calmness.
6:30 pm
i will stop punching you in the nose and we are supposed to grateful. it wasn't trump. it was the democrats and this is their true nature. would you agree? >> of course. president trump poured out his soul to build a safer and more prosperous america. democrats launched an illegal operation to take him out now in its 6th year. president biden game the speech of a dictator in the style of a dictator using the words of a dictator. this was the enemy of the state speech. like every other tyrant he accused his opponents of being
6:31 pm
fascists while he engages in oppressionive behavior. me is forcing americans to take a vaccine -- he is the one interfering in the relationship between parent and child to force dangerous medicine, puberty blockers and hormones on little kids. he is the one whose government raided the home of his chief political opponent in a fashion that violates the constitutional order because president trump had the right to decide what is or is not in the national security interest when he leaves the white house. that's the behavior of a tyrant. this speech is the moment that biden ceases to be a man who could even pretend, to even claim he has the interest of this country at heart. he is now committed to splitting
6:32 pm
this country in two and beginning an era of division and hatred. that will wound our soul if it is not prepared for generations to come. >> tammy: that's perfectly put. when we think about what he could have done tonight with what the nation is facing. what financial experts are saying will be a recession. inflation will get worse. the supply chain crisis is still a problem. people are losing their job. companies are cutting back now. that's going to continue. wouldn't there have been a remarkable and an opportunity to have an uplifting speech about what americans are made of what we can do? but they chose this. would have it worked if biden gave a more optimistic speech of
6:33 pm
about americans should expect from this country? >> it would have been a lot better and maybe well received. that's not what they are about. as steven said they accuse the others of being undemocratic while they do the same. i hope that everyone understands this calculation they are making is the only place they can go. joe biden is 20% approval within his own party. the only way to climb out of this is by dividing this country. that's where they are going. they want to win. we have to win. that's what i took from this speech tonight. >> tammy: it's interesting. the majority of americans are concerned about the direction of our democracy. turning around the fact that we
6:34 pm
are concerned about the state of the nation. this is a way to just ignore that. it's a trying time. but americans we are the ones who can deal with this. we are certainly going to. thank you very much. straight ahead, all eyes are on the judge in the mar-a-lago raid case as she prepares on trump's request for a special master. alan dershowitz and gregg jarrett will break down what happened in court today when we return.
