night was really joe biden politician. his speech was a very cynical attempt to fill our heads with stupid. and number three, i thought to myself, what a missed opportunity to talk to the american people straight up about the reasons when they lie down and sleep at night they can't. he could have talked about crime, inflation, the amount of fentanyl coming across the border killing our teenagers. instead, he chose to say to the american people, if you don't agree with me about higher taxes, more government and if you don't agree with me moms are birthing people and if you don't agree with me that government has a constitutional right to talk to your 5-year-old about sexuality, you are a bad person and you're not even an american.

talk about joe biden is nakedly speech last night but you were a teacher at one time, and i'm sure you saw the fact that they looked at national tests they give her nine year old, third grade, fourth grade to see how proficient they are in reading and math. after the pandemic, we discovered to our horror, our kids are going the wrong way. they lost five points in reading. they lost seven points in math. and of course, it is blamed largely on the pandemic. but here is the usual part right now. we know the teachers union kept the kids out of school classes as long as they could but this administration is blaming the last administration. listen to this, senator. >> so, let's get back to where we were not too long ago when the president walked into this administration how mismanaged the pandemic and the response to the pandemic was.

in less than six months, our schools went from 46% to open in nearly two full time. that was the work of this president. that was the work of democrats in spite of republicans not ruling for the american rescue plan. again, schools were not open. the economy was shut down. businesses were shut down. every republican congress voted against it and that is the reality. we had to do this on our own. >> steve: senator, it was the coronavirus started during the trump administration so the trump administration pretty much shut everything down. but then one by one the states came back online with their kids. it was the teachers unions that were talking to the joe biden administration, the next administration about keeping kids out of classroom as long as possible and all the mandates and stuff like that. then they wound up $190 billion from the american rescue plan, which he was just referring to for the schools. a lot of a lot of that hasn't been spent yet and how the kids
5:10 am
are going the wrong direction in reading and math. >> well, if you believe what the president's press secretary will say, you will never own your own home. that is just not true. the people watching, or schools were shut down by woke, local school boards at the urging of many, many teachers unions. and president biden never said a word. in some cases, he encouraged them. he just stood there and sunk in his teeth. so a little bit of revision of history. and he could have talked about that last night. he could have talked about his plan to help our kids regain the knowledge that they lost as a result of their own government shutting down the schools supposedly in the name of science. we probably lost 20 years of progress that we had made in our public schools.
5:11 am
and we haven't heard a peep out of this administration. congress sent $200 million to the schools for run media work. you know what we've heard from many of the states, not all that many of them? nothing, zero, nada! the money is still sitting there in the president hasn't said a word for. >> brian: i've have 12% of the money being spent. they put it towards a no stopping new york campaign. montgomery, alabama, they have also done very little with it. they started an anti-vaping and bought anti-vaping detectors. also new york city, they have put together the money for $12 million for expanding the controversial restorative justice education discipline practice to all middle schools. and so, they get you guys, not you but the rescue plan went out to the state and they said do
5:12 am
something responsible! and the states if they did spend it, it seems irresponsible and most left it there. how unbelievable is that that he's taking a bow for a plan that has been abused? >> well, look, what i wish the president would do is stand up and say, "look, teachers matter." instead of criticism of teachers. i can't name the first six presidents of the united states in order but i won't forget the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth grade teachers. this is not the fold of the teachers but it is the fault in many cases of teacher unions. it is the fault of woke officials. i wish the president would say here is a new rule. no excuses schools. i don't care how old you were, you are not getting out of the third grade until you can read. you may be 16 years old, by god, but you will be on the

every month that disposable income, their spending power actually declined. >> steve: here's the thing, if the federal government is out to put a kibosh on that because the federal reserve has made it clear, we will try to blow up the economy to the point where it is creeping along at 2% inflation. right now, we are at 8% something and have to slam on the brakes. but if you want to buy a house right now, going forward it will be much harder because the interest rate will go through the roof. speak with a bigger problem, steve, you have the federal government that is spending extraordinary amounts of money that is adding to inflation power. they passed this bill in congress the circle inflation reduction act and most ridiculously misnamed bill in history. then of course, biden announced last week a huge amount of money on student debt forgiveness. that is pouring extra money into the economy, which is not paid for and which is not funded that will add to inflation.
5:37 am
that is the real challenge. again, creating enough job for those people and 3.7%, we are not in bad shape with regard to jobs. the problem is with the federal government pouring all of this money and pouring fuel on the fire, the fed is raising interest rates. it is like you have one arm of the federal government spending money and the fed is like turning up the pressure on interest rates to reduce inflation. >> steve: if there is a silver lining and if you want a job, there are plenty of jobs out there. i think it is to jobs for every person looking. unfortunately, i heard each statistic on the radio, we are at the highest level of people working two jobs to try to keep their heads above water. in the meantime, to an earlier point, this administration is in denial it was the inflation and gigantic cob of money that got us where we are. >> that is exactly right.

and again, it exactly as you said, employees are crying out for the workers. everywhere you go, there are not enough workers to pay more significantly and wages. all of that is pushing up prices, the oil price increase. there are not enough workers around and not enough people able and willing to work. the federal government is pouring money, pouring, pouring inflation fuel on the fire that is all having the effect of undermining and weakening like literally -- again inflation 10% in wages raising 5%. interest rates if you are trying to buy a house right now you pay more interest rate. so everybody is falling behind as in part because of these passes. >> steve: jerry baker check him out on fox business, thank you sir. so still had on this friday new republican bill to block the administration from encouraging social media censorship. from covid to the hunter laptop
