off from what democrats and maga republicans, a smaller subset of republicans, felt about this speech. the optics were aggressive, i will certainly give you that. but people felt it was joe biden's moment. he showed backbone and talked about not only the threat to our democracy and elections by donald trump and the people who support him and things like fake elector schemes but he has had a very good few months. democrats and independents and moderate republicans were happy to hear from him that he will take a victory lap on that and we'll head into november with a lot of good stuff. >> dana: i wish we had 20 minutes but we don't. charlie, let me get to you. i understand wanting to be on offense but you don't have to be offensive when you don't go on offense, charlie. >> yeah. and i agree with you, jessica, a lot of democrats saw this and were -- said -- thought it was a great look, which to me

underscores a very scary spot we're in in this country. if democrat voters looked at that and said yes, that's speaking for me, we have a lot of very, very, angry disenchanted people in this country who have had their way for the last two years. they control every lever of power in washington and they have no one but themselves and their policies that they support to blame for it. yet they are still so angry. i can't help but think -- i would hope the white house is smart enough to look at the scene from that and the angry, visceral, bitter speech that the president gave where he is attacking voters. the voters he supposedly works for. then the scene, the blood red bathed in blood red looks like a scene from the shining. with marines in the background. and if that speaks for half of our country, man, we are in for some really hard times coming

6:08 am
who are pretty opposed to how we do things in america winning elections and it is not the tack i would take. >> dana: last question to charlie. one of the things he said is people who are pro-life he painted as extremists and enemies of democracy. you can disagree with the pro-life position but they worked through the democratic system to achieve the policy goals, charlie. >> not only that, but the effort there that they were successful with was to return the issue to voters. and that means pro-life people and pro-choice people. it returns the issue to voters, which is all conservatives have ever wanted. but this effort by the president to somehow divide maga republicans from regular republicans or whatever is creepy, first of all, but it is also disingenuous because, of course, donald trump had more
