seven charles watson is in jackson mississippi with the latest on this, charles. >> hey afternoon guys. the suspect has been identified as cory patterson. please say he's facing grand larceny charges in charges of making terroristic threats with federal charges pending in connection to that plane and police that he stole and threatened to crash into a walmart. not just a short time ago we heard from tupelo police chief who tells us he is a ten year employee of tupelo aviation where he fuels the planes. police are not sure whether or not patterson had a license to pilot. but they do believe he has at least some flight experience that made it possible for him to not only possibly fueled the aircraft but to steal it and fly through as long as he did. now, you can imagine it was concerning for police when he started getting calls early this morning with people reporting a small plane flying at a low altitude.
1:02 pm
it was circling the walmart. 5:23 a.m. central time police a patterson called lee county 911 and threatened to fly the plane into the store. that is when emergency personnel jumped into action, and vacuuming that walmart and getting people out of the immediate area, listen. >> major streets in tupelo were shut down to help save lives during this critical period negotiators from the tupelo police department contact with the pilot and were able to convince him to not carry out this deed. and to land the aircraft at tupelo airport. >> and so police say patterson did not have experience landing a plane they had a private pilot coaching him through. he abruptly diverted from the landing and continue to fly northam. under an ten oh 8:00 a.m. central time air controllers lost contact with the plane. fortunately the got confirmation the plane had landed in the field about four minutes later

and ripley, mississippi. we also heard from officials that patterson made a facebook post while he was up in that plane essentially saying he never wanted to hurt anyone. he apologized to his family before it simply ending it with a good buy. we are told by the mayor of tupelo patterson's family was at the tupelo police department and was in contact with him while he was in the sky proved suitably convincing him to land that plane safely. the mayor said his family is very grateful that he was not injured and innocent bystanders in the area were not injured. but guys, what a close call. it's a scary situation for the folks in the tupelo area. back to you precook certainly could have ended more, charles watson thank you. rich: mission postponed again. nasa scrubs at second try of watching artemis one moon rocket. a leak in with the hydrogen tanks found hours before today's

1:07 pm
1200 flights have been delayed so far today in the u.s. about 90 have been canceled. now, this adds two months of travel headaches for passengers. there were thousands of canceled flights over the july 4 and memorial day weekends. this year alone 2.6% of all flights, more than one third of 46000 flights have been canceled. and nearly 1.3 million have been delayed according to flight aware. a lot of those problems are due to covid, airline crew shortages and lack of equipment and massive cuts despite travel demand. the ceo frontier airlines tells a fox, travelers should think twice about which airline they choose. >> summer has been a challenge for a lot of carriers. i think it's been significant cancellations fractures case would have won the best summers we've ever had. in august we canceled less than 1% of her flights. there are big differences among these carriers. make sure you understand who you are flying. >> as part of the ongoing campaign to get airlines to

construction is gotten worse. they are fatiguing. we are trying to get a lot of changes to scheduling as well. >> and for those who choose not to fly, just know the roads are expected to be busy this holiday weekend too. gas prices are down on average by about 20% compared to earlier this year. many travelers are taking advantage of that right now, molly brick works all right thinking about those holidays great unit leader talk about possible strikes which is concerning for future travelers. we appreciate it, christina coleman great update. next labor day weekend also has lots of families heading to the beach. with recent shark sightings on the rise folks on the east coast are being extra cautious. alexis mcadams out on the island in new york, alexis. i say rich, that is right. it has been busy adhered will be through the holiday weekend. the ramping up patrols and only for the sharks were talking about buffer possibly impaired boaters. take a look here this sourcing

out here on long island. some beautiful weather so with that police expect crowded and choppy waterways for take a look you're out on long island patrols have been out in full force throughout the weekend. weed out this morning with the nasa marine bureau they're patrolling the atlantic ocean just off of long island here. about 50 officers to keep a close eye out for sharks but also people driving recklessly boaters in distress. last are there 658 boating fatalities nationwide according to the u.s. coast guard. police keep a lookout for boaters operating under the influence, others are remaining vigilant. >> people will be drinking to today. hopefully they will not be controlling the boats. but it will happen so it's nice to know somebody is out there watching out for those of us trying to be safe. >> this summer on the east coast shark sightings have been out. 400 near miami researchers monitoring the activity there for teams on long island ramped up patrols for mining swimmers to stay alert and swim in groups

1:12 pm
thank you so much for being here to be inched closer to the midterms for the primaries just beginning to wrap up, coming to a close which means all eyes are going to turn to more serious things for november. we are inching republicans and have a five-point advantage. democratic gains strength increase support among independents. among women. among young voters for hispanic and black voters as well. they traditionally vote democratic. in this case that has become more solid. so your insight into what's happening here? >> so independent boaters are the christian group here. the problem is they are notoriously difficult to pull. not only is this a very small sliver of the electorate it's less than 10% of all voters that don't really swing either way. independence of not really made up their mind jet. there is a group most likely to change their mind in the next couple of months because they are not political junkies like you and i.
1:13 pm
they're not paying very close attention to politics right now. so i do think there's a couple forces behind these numbers namely donald trump's involvement in the republican party and the dobbs decision with roe v wade, i do think there is room for independents to move in the next couple of months. and so we will have to keep checking in on that. molly: i want to dig on the independence a little bit more. they can be the key to who wins or loses that race. it is a close number. the favor democratic candidates for congress 38 -- 35 over republicans. small margin but in march is a lot bigger were republicans led among independents by 12 percentage points. your thoughts on the shift among most critical independent boaters? >> independents also rank, like all other groups right now. the economy consisting of as the top issue.
1:14 pm
that continues to be the case it's really challenging for democrats and good for republicans. i do think it cannot be over emphasized what a problem abortion is for republicans right some of these moderate voters. us have been saying for a long time that republicans are a little bit like the dog who caught the car when it comes to roe v wade. it really was a motivating issue for base approach life voters for a long time. this is the first time now in 50 years that republicans have had to contend with the preferences of the majority of the country. they are not onboard with what most republicans are saying. >> in the recent polling backs up highlights what you just said which is the economy is still a kitchen table issue but look at the latest wall street journal numbers, abortion as well very high on the list. former governor mike huckabee has been giving advice. he gave this advice to his fellow republicans. >> we need to focus on three
1:15 pm
things this fall. gas, groceries, and god. those three things can win for the republicans because they are simple and forgot i sit around drinking coffee at the waffle house can understand that. we cannot talk to the corporate board rooms. we have got to talk to the folks at the diners in the waffle house for a. >> member in 2008 governor mike huckabee when he was running for the white house one iowa early on. kind of an upset in the race. all these better known, better name recognition gop contenders in the race. he might know a thing or two about connecting to voters in campaigning. your thoughts on his advice as i will republicans seem to do? >> it might be a good message for the republican base. and i certainly agree on the gas in the groceries. but again, on abortion most of americans the majority are not there. if you look at the state-by-state polling which becomes incredibly important in
1:16 pm
these senate races there's only ten states were less than half of the population pulled, supports abortion. in other words most states in the overwhelming amount of cases 50% or more of the voting population are in favor of some sort of abortion rights. so where you can see that, are these senate races were these candidates on the republican side are kind of contorting themselves and trying to figure out a message where they are not completely flip-flopping from what they said in the primary. there also not alienating these swing voters in the moderate voters that they really need to carry estate. i do think it will be a problem. i think the more trump is in the news rehashing the 2020 election and with all these investigations, that is also a huge problem for republicans. the highest inflation in 40 years, would think that the layout for the party out of the white house.
1:17 pm
that does not seem to quite be the case now. and these numbers will only get closer s election becomes very. >> president trump continues to be a factor in these primaries. they're beginning to wrap up programs to the end of the primary season heading into the general election. in some cases it shows its helping prop up from the truck candidates with the thought perhaps that will make a candidate easier to beat. your thoughts on this happening in our system right now? >> that is a very dangerous gamble. you can assume the diehard trump of voters never ever be with y you. and that those of voters are not tenable at all. they cannot win a general election. that is the bet essentially democratic operatives are making when they fund these types of races. but you do not know for sure he knew very well may end up funding a candidate that thanks
1:18 pm
a 2020 election was stolen. that was a lifer who still think donald trump should be the president or some of these wacky theories. and then democrats are to blame for that that ends up happening. it is a very dangerous gamble. and i think if you are a democratic operative making the argument, as joe biden just did this last weekend that democracy is at risk and we are in a very dangerous time. then why would you even want to risk a little bit with one of these trump candidates in of office? i think it is very skeptical. it is a cynical way of looking at politics which is often the best way. but it is a risk for sure. quick cynicism and politics? my goodness. thank you so much we really appreciate you joining us today on this holiday we can pray thank you for your insight. >> thank you precooked at the food prices have not up, we are now learning catchup and tomato sauce may soon become scarce pillow talk to farmer about the

from imports overseas. california is nearly a third of the production worldwide. you look at other countries in europe and they produce tomatoes but not nearly of the scale we do. they are short also. there isn't anybody that can supply the shortfall. is there anything, bruce comey think that california government, the federal government to try to address this? >> well, one thanks we need is water. we need infrastructure. hurts everybody. that's all we are talking about we have shortage of tomato products. the benefits everybody not just farmers. we invested hundreds of millions of dollars in state-of-the-art irrigation in the state. we are as efficient as anyone in the world.

1:35 pm
the spirit on tuesday we will not in this launch. , launch. twenty-six and 27 will really depend on the options the team comes back with likely on monday or early tuesday morning. michael talked to this options with you. one thing i will point out we will de- conflict with crew five. so there is an overlap with our next launch. in the timeframe when crew five wants to go we need to de- conflict with them. that will way into what we do. and then, as we get into launch. twenty-seven in the latter part of october we will be looking at a lot of things. our stay on the pad durations that we have, and of course we are always looking at whether as a general course of action for some the storm activity that can be out there.
1:36 pm
i am sure there's going to be a question are we confident? i love that question. are you confident you're going to get out of bed this morning? we do not going to these tests lightly. we don't think hey we hope this is going to work. the confidence to do another launch attempt today was born out of the fact that we understood the hydrogen leaks that we had on monday. those are different than the leak we had today. in terms of the scale in the same place. and we understood the while issues. we were confident coming into today. as the administrator said were not going to launch until we are ready. were going to step through these things. there's a lot of conjecture already. i can assure you i don't how many people are in that room today, i don't know 100 plus folks. most of them engineers. everybody already think about what is the problem?
1:37 pm
and frankly that is what happens on the loops we are talking about these things. folks are giving options. the anomaly loops are really active from the time we first saw the signature all the way until charlie made the right decision which was to scrub. so, our confidence comes through what we are going to learn this. when we are ready to go out there we will go back out there and try for another launch. michael will lay out for you what we have in between. i will say, obviously we talked about this mission being risky but regret we are going to take the risks that make sense for the risks we know that if already push the vehicle in the system as far as it will, when we launch. and be ready to go at that time. so with that let me turn over too mike for more specifics. >> good afternoon thank you for continuing to follow the artemis one mission and our program. i will briefly recap for weightlifting off the last time we were here.
