people talk about voter participation. it's a broader subject about this moment that we are in. christ death benefit of hindsight, how would you evaluate that review should give you a couple days ago? >> thanks rich, that was the day of the speech a few hours before the speech when i asked that question. when she gave that response i think two things but one, the white house generally does not see it as political to call off debts to democracy. that's their view that the issues articulating. the counter argument is within the first few minutes named his opponent and future opponent criticized both him and his supporters. i think it is a tough argument for the white house to make to say that it is not political. think it would be probably easier for the white house to simply say sure it is political to biggest political issue of our time the president is taking

it on. you argue that it's not political at all i think that is tough. >> you think it muddled the message a little you mention a question at the top there some moments in the speech there were a few mentions of some of the agenda the president democrats had managed to pass. there were some other things in here that made it sound a little more like a political speech beyond a criticism of the former president. was there a way to do this more targeted? and separately just also ties into it, when democrats are finding far right challengers in primaries, is that model this as well? >> is not for me too say whether it models it. i do think in general there may have been a different way to approach her, sure. this is the approach they chose. he absolutely did, you are spot on the say the president mentioned some of his accomplishments and some of his agenda and that speech.

which i president is allowed to do. he is going into camping season for the president's going to be on the campaign trail just like the former president was out on the campaign trail rather this weekend. but to say broadly that it is not political, is tricky. but that said i do think joe biden genuinely sees this as a threat to democracy, the former president as a threat to democracy and that's when he gave the speech. rich: do you think we'll see more of this in the white house? is this going to be part of this tragic strategy moving forward as we get into the midterm elections and then beyond that? >> i don't think they're going to walk away from this. so yes i think this is something you will continue to see and speeches when the president is on the campaign trail and off it. it is an issue they certainly care about deeply. and whether it is good for joe biden or bad for joe biden,

former president trump was still a huge part of the conversation for many reasons including what happened in mar-a-lago. the fact is putting a big role in the midterms and going out and campaigning for people he has endorsed her. rich: spieth give mar-a-lago the white house is done a great job from trying to distance itself from the raid save the department of justice is independent this is a d.o.j. raid. do you expect the white house to continue to stay away from it? even though they may have a political issue here with classified documents according to the fbi and making a political argument in benchley against the former president? >> i do think they will stay away, rich. it is good to context to remember that towards the beginning of his administration, they were people on the left, progressive and other democrats who were frustrated the d.o.j. was not doing more to prosecute

or investigate president trump. and at that time investment or former president trump, that time the white house also said not our issue. it is a separate department we are going to keep our distance. now, more than a year end a half in we see what the department of justice is doing for their sync arms length this is a d.o.j. issue i think i'll stick with that message. before you think that will take other democrats others and running in the house and senate? >> i don't think they allow or doesn't allow something when it comes to that other democrats choose to talk about in their own time of their own campaign speeches. it certainly is in the political arena. so it is an issue. i don't think you'll hear what we might want to see in terms of satisfying response as the white house about it from the briefing room. before jeff mason, thanks very

it is worth noting for our viewers you are a jackson guy born and raised. you have some real intimate knowledge of this area. there have been number of heartbreaking high-profile infrastructure stories in recent years. many of the peak minority communities really hard. president biden is traveling all over the country. he's been touting this 1 trillion-dollar infrastructure package which passed last november. a lot of focus on water water projects. he has been promising to help disadvantaged communities. do you see this as an opportunity for the president? >> hey molly, thanks much for having me. well i do. let's all point out that the president enacted the american rescue plan in march of 2021. one of the first really big pieces of legislation he set forth. that also allocated funding directly to municipalities and

counties. it was very restrictive in that most of that money actually had to be used for infrastructure. also money was sent as part of the american rescue plan directly to the states for the state of mississippi received $1.8 billion. our legislature this past session actually authorize a program, a grant program whereby the state would match funds invested by municipalities and counties for water infrastructure. the department of environmental quality was authorized by the legislature to administer that program. it requires the local jurisdictions to submit plans. the deq would evaluate those plans and then authorize the funding. that just opened up september 1, the window to receive those plans extends through sept september 30. i am not quite sure if this city of jackson has submitted their plan or not forgiven the crisis situation what's up there really first in the queue.

she kind of nailed something it happens frequency. big numbers, big promises, big numbers in the government how does it actually get spent? who is really in charge? there's a headlight and political this is jackson's water emergency exposes a dilemma for biden. here's a quote. for biden who is made helping those types in disadvantaged communities a priority, stearic miter state governments reluctant to seize control to the federal government presents a major hurdle. according to advocates mississippi officials, the federal government is going to have to figure out ways to bypass these republican-controlled governors and legislatures to get money in the hands of cities which are going to be the democratic party stronghold. that's codirector of the cooperation jackson and environmental climate change organization in jackson. what do you make of that implication that this blue minority democrat heavy city is been neglected by red state gop leaders. and that is part of the

challenge for the biden administration. do you think there's any truth to that? >> i don't. let's first just reflect on what we just discussed. our legislature saw fit to carve out 450 million of the states 1.8 billion of american rescue plan funds received, carved out specifically to assist cities and counties and matching monies with the cities and counties. in fact the city of jackson, the county in which the city is located received a combined 86 -- $87 million. when you combine that with the states and matching figures to put you up to about $174 million of which half comes from the state. so i'm not sure why they would make such an assertion. we do not see this as a republican or democrat issue or a black or white issue. these are our fellow mississippians. we care for them. we are disturbed by the problems they are experiencing in this

series problem of water. we should also point out that even though our mayor has said recent floods in the high range we have experience in central mississippi contributed to this problem. certainly did contribute to it but this has been building for decades and decades but a lot of that is because of sheer neglect of the facility. for example the main water treatment plant that services jackson used to have 12 class a water operators full-time staff that that facility to cover the workload on a seven -- 24 basis. it only has two. the epa cited the city of jackson for being understaffed. chronically understaffed going back to 2020, twice in 2020 most recently came back and said the epa did said we cannot see any effort on the part of the city to rectify this problem. napping is an issue it should also be pointed out the city has serious issues with its billing system, some believe as much is

$100 million of unpaid water bills are outstanding. the city really does not have effective and reliable systems to produce bills to collect money. he really cannot run a railroad that way. the city's auditors a third-party private public accounting firm, shows in their most recent report the city does not even collect enough money from its water customers to cover its expenses. it had to brace a great point in the mirror and spoken about the same in 30 years accumulated challenges. and as much as it seems like the media is trying to put the state government against the local city government, that sort of thing the governor and the mayor stood up together and talked about, what would they call it, operational unity. do you see that is the key to solving this problem? the working together state government, city government fighting the money to get this done. not necessarily on the back of taxpayers which you mentioned there's a lot of outstanding bills. >> rights. i do. let's be clear.

this is obviously a fine line when your tongue what political jurisdictions and political authority and control. got cities that exist within the city. those are independent entities. those cities create their own budgets. they hire and fire. they operate, they make the policies that operate the city. when you sign up to be a mayor of course, you are essentially the chief executive of that c city. you are responsible directly for the organizational units that deliver those services to the citizens, the police, the fire, public works, water, recreation et cetera. you are the chief executive of that. while it is certainly true these problems have been festering for quite some time, when you run for this kind of office you've got to accept you are inheriting those issues. and the people put you in office to solve those problems. alright thank you so much for your intimate insight into what's going on in that community. we really appreciate on this labor day weekend, thank you.

muted? >> i think if you look for problem with the loan forgiveness program it's not so much inflation right now. it does not solve the student debt problem. in fact, the incentives in this loan forgiveness program, give up borrowers even more incentive to go out and take out more loans. and encouraged to take out more loans. flexion also. we are the signs of improvement. at the total reserve there's still a long way to go tackle that problem. before as the fed said that's a long way to go. how aggressively here and keeping the federal reserve moves? there at the points the progress

they've made over the last few months know there's a lot more to go that is in a tricky place right now. we have seen some fines after a huge run up in inflation and the last year. we have seen some signs in the months of july and august is cooling off a little bit. gasoline prices have come down. if you look at airfares, you look at retailers discounting we are seeing some signs it is improving. the fed i think risks, they are still fighting this war. there is a risk they keep pushing interest rates up so aggressively that they tackle the inflation problem but they also push the economy into a recession at the same time. i think the next few months are a really delicate time for the economy. for the political economy too. because obviously the elections coming up, a lot is going to hang on how people think how the inflation outlook is changing. and the markets are also hanging on the inflation story.

i think everything right now is what happens to prices of the next few months. before you mention energy. there's a story that g7 is considering putting price caps on russian oil. the administration, place of support for that. how likely is it that controls energy prices? and does the g7 have a lever treatment do this? >> you know, we have seen with a lot of these sanctions programs the government has done in the past. articulate this sanctions program. there is a lot of linkage. back in march we thought we were shutting down the russian economy. shutting them off from global finance. but it turns out that our economy is held out all right. they produce commodities that the world needs. most particularly oil and natural gas. it is going to be hard to completely shut the russians often. and frankly the united states government does not want to shut the russians off because we need their oil on global markets to

prevent prices from going back up again. i think this scheme they have got to cap russia prices will have some effect. russian oil is already selling at a discount on global markets. but they are bringing in a lot of money because overall prices are higher. so i think it is eight muted affect. i think the other really important game going on right now isn't natural gas. the united states is actually a big record amounts of natural gas liquid natural gas into the european. natural gas that they run the risk of shooting themselves in the foot. they are cutting the europeans off and in turn are turning to americans for natural gas. we'll have a big trade a in the next few months two. in that raise prices here for natural gas bursts of supply has

been rising a lot the price being cut off from supplies coming from russia. this been an increase in no front brake that can contribute to the inflation story in the second half of the year two. cuts back on energy this business of republicans on this administration energy policy. as it comes to fossil fuels your paper had out today timothy and energy reporter saying the biden administration is fewer acres for drilling offshore. in any other administration in its early stages since the second world war. how much is this administration played into the run up here? or compare that to what the global situation is and how much global events have affected gas prices.

girls found dead in indiana and a close friend of a philadelphia teacher whose death was first ruled a homicide. then suicide talks with fox about how it all does not add up. it is a case that its path of the family and friends of alan greenberg for years. the 27 old philadelphia teacher was found dead in her apartment and 2011 by her fiancé who claimed an 8911 call that she had stabbed herself. greenberg had at least 20 stab wounds, half of them on her back with a large wound at the base of her skull. the initial manner of death was ruled a homicide. but then, was revised to a suicide. something greenberg's parents have been fighting to have changed to either undecided or homicide. and if it was murder to have someone charge. greenberg's close friend erica hamilton told fox news digital there is no way her friend stabbed herself saying they too had talked about greenberg being anxious and seeing a counselor.
