correspondent christie romans has the numbers what are you seeing? >> forward cooling but too high. you have the overall inflation number 8.3%. you get inside these numbers, some of the year over year increases here are really troubling. you have got gasoline prices up 25% year over year. food, this category making some history here. the largest 12 month increase since 1979. shelter up 6.2%. that has been a sticky part of this inflation story here. you know, can you switch different kinds of meat at the grocery store. you can't just switch where you are living overnight. >> jesse: 8.3% inflation. i don't have a math degree from wharton if i did i would work on wall street. i'm pretty sure 8.3% is 8.3% more than zero. groceries are up 12%. so add that to your bill. along with paying for your neighbor's ph.d. and electric car. but just like the taliban taking over afghanistan or the formula shortage, biden isn't a mind reader. >> the thing that really bothers

the strategic petroleum reserve. look at that gas prices are down off their highs because he is flooding the market with oil that taxpayers paid for. this is for emergencies like wars and hurricanes not midterms. and biden is going to have to restock the stockpile with oil at close to $100 a barrel. what do you think that's going to do to the price? when america starts buying gazillions of barrels of oil? it's going to send the price at the pump right back to over $5 a gallon. but after joe spiked the football in your face, he flew back to delaware. guys, it's tuesday. and the president just went home for the rest of the week. covid is over but joe loves to work remotely. or not actually work at all. like masters the former coo of teal capital and running for senate in arizona. this inflation reality has to have just smacked the white house in the face and destroyed

stay in the country. given a work permit. you will be told to show up in 10 years or 5 years for asylum hearing. but some people don't. those are the ones you have got worry about. why aren't they turning themselves in. and have you seen those images of the so-called got-aways. just the other day a drone flying over and within a an hour saw hundreds of people cross. millions of people but also the drugs. uncontrolled flow of drughtsz across the border and killing people in cities all across this country. this administration has the face to send the vice president on television and say well, the border is secure or at least to the extent that we are trying. they are not trying. they are actively and openly inviting people to come here illegally. >> yeah, this white house is the best thing that ever happened to the drug cartels, so you are in a race down there in florida. who is your opponent, senator? >> well, my opponent is val demings. she supports all of this. she says frankly we don't have a border crisis. she is someone that has very radical. also votes with nancy pelosi 10. every radical far left idea you could think of she has voted for

[laughter] >> who is going to sing at that one? >> jesse: i don't know. we are trying to get cardi b. to sing. >> at least she knows what inflation is. >> jesse: that's true. more than anybody at the white house. thank you so much, senator. >> thank you. >> jesse: north carolina police officer was forced to take out a criminal who tried to steal his cruiser. and we have the body cam footage. matt finn brings us the latest. >> jesse, this new police body camera video gives us an upclose view of that former concord north carolina officer who shot to death a man that refused to get out of a truck that he was apparently trying to steal. police say 29-year-old brandon colmes broke into a nissan car dealership in february and stole personal items and key fobs, apparently then getting access inside what appears to be a shiny new gray truck. former officer timothy larson approaches the would-be thief

and repeatedly commands him to get out of that truck and stop the car. but the suspect does not comply. >> hey, hey. do not move. do not move. do not move. what are you doing? hey! get out of the car. get out of the car. get out of the car! >> the officer then calls for backup and, again, demands the suspect get out of the truck. the man finally does get out and then runs into the officer's squad car. the officer runs up to his police suv and shoots the 29-year-old suspect five times killing him. the da's office says former officer larson was legally justified saying he gave the suspect more than a dozen commands and was in imminent danger knowing that his suv had a rifle in it and because the suspect revved the engine. "the charlotte observer" reports larson was fired for refusing to answer questions after the shooting and lying to his superiors and the state bureau of investigation. the victim's family has filed a

stories from the past they got totally wrong. like they are going to therapy. the first installment was on the duke volleyball player who accused byu fans yelling racial slurs at her throughout the match. naturally before gathering the facts, cnn took the story and ran with it but "upon further review" they were wrong. there was no evidence this ever happened. watch. >> new segment that updates the initial official version of the story once more facts come in. a form of journalistic accountability and we are going to call it "upon further review." healthy skepticism is a virtue this doesn't read like a cover-up instead like a rush to judgment because of a well-intentioned impulse to believe the duke players' accusations when investigations turn up a very different fact pattern it's incumbent upon everyone to acknowledge it and adjust. >> jesse: we reported a hoax without fact checking it but we're accountable and that's why

we are good journalists. but there's more work to do. obviously, you could do a segment on the laptop. you could do a three part series on covid. i mean, there is so much content to work with here. i mean, cnn could have a upon further review for an hour. they could do the whole weekend on it. and i hear the network has an opening. sundays at 11 o'clock a.m., just saying. but cnn isn't alone. "the washington post" is also struggling. the paper is hemorrhaging money and subscribers. not good. meanwhile the "new york times" dealing with serious problems. nobody wants to go back to work. 1300 employees signed a little pledge because that's what they like to do, refusing to return to the office. they say they want to be paid more and they say their wages aren't keeping up with inflation and the cost of gas. because they have a commute. i wonder why that happened?
